Kansas City Chiefs shake up their NFL Draft outlook with bold moves—are multiple first-round edges the secret to a new defensive dynasty? Chris Clark and Ryan Tracy strategize a “Wild Wednesday” mock draft, targeting top edge rusher Reuben Bain with an aggressive trade-up and following up with another pass rusher, TJ Parker. The duo debates the value of trading draft picks for impact defenders and how these decisions could transform Kansas City's pass rush for years to come. Key talking points include the risk of missing out on wide receiver targets like Carnell Tate and Jordan Tyson, the uncertainty around draft capital, and the tough choices between offensive needs and defensive dominance. Insightful analysis of Chiefs draft priorities, potential roster construction around George Karlaftis, and thoughts on late-round sleepers make this mock draft a must-listen for fans tracking the future of Kansas City’s championship window. How big of an impact can the chiefs make in this year's draft we're going to find out
today?
The plan of the free and the home of the chiefs, this is the Lockdown Chiefs Podcast.
You are Lockdown Chiefs, your daily Kansas City Chiefs Podcast, part of the Lockdown
Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome back to another episode of Lockdown Chiefs, and we're going to dive into a mock
draft.
We're just going to get right into this.
Looking at what Kansas City do in this draft, we're going to look and talk about some
unpredictability in this one.
We're going to talk about some extreme decisions and some a lot of different movements.
Let's just go ahead and hop right in and talk about the draft.
At this point, Kansas City, obviously everybody knows they have the ninth pick and they have
the 29th pick.
I'm really curious, and I'm going to start this, but I'm not going to do this like we normally
do where we just hop to pick nine, because I want to see how the draft starts.
Do they possibly make a move?
Now see, that's interesting.
Carvelle Reese and Sonny Stiles, two linebackers go in the top three, and I know Reese is probably
an edge for most people, sure, but Stiles is the top three, so if you go one more pick
with the Titans, Jeremiah Love.
This is setting up to be a fantastic scenario for Kansas City.
Right, and so the giants are on the clock, and so for us, now I would love to have our
Reese, because I think he will grow into, and I do think grow is literal.
I just, I just back to back him and read it, add three more games on each position, regrading
him as a linebacker and an edge, and he's nearly at the top of both lists.
So there are teams that would love him anywhere.
I would love if he were here at this five spot, I'd say, let's go trade up right now.
Obviously he's not, but with a trade up, I mean, this is Wild Wednesday.
Our whole goal is to pull stuff that we normally don't think the chiefs will do.
This is, this is crazy, love this scenario kind of stuff.
So are you on board for Bane or Bailey right now and try to go trade up?
So here's the thing, like I'm sitting here in this scenario, you have, yeah, you have
Bane sitting there, you still have Bailey sitting there, you have all these different scenarios
where you could possibly be looking to get another player.
So at this point, you still have four guys that have been talked about for the chiefs, David
Bailey, Ruben Bane, Tate, and Caleb Downs.
Now you have four picks before you have four picks before the chiefs go.
So let's take one more pick, see what the giants do, they took David Bailey.
So now you're down to two guys that you would really want to be considering, I think, in
Bane and in Tate, safety really doesn't move the needle for me.
This goes back to what we've been talking about with positional value.
I will say this too, Jordan Tyson has moved to YGC for one for me at this point.
Interesting.
So I just for fit because of the way that I think you have to utilize it, I don't know
that it fixed this the read system, but this is this is crazy Wednesday, right?
So I guess we should just leave it there.
He is generally considered the top wide receiver pick.
So fair enough.
Okay.
So do you go make a trade to go get Ruben Bane at six at this point?
Yeah.
I mean, I think it's worth exploring.
So six for nine, obviously won't be accepted.
What would that take?
Better not take 64 should take one sixty nine is what should take.
One sixty nine to go up three spots close try one forty six forty eight, whatever it is.
Forty seven.
Okay, so we have to give up one on nine, which makes me cringe, but okay, this is not my
day.
No, you are in charge of this.
No, we didn't have to give it up.
We gave up one forty eight, okay, even better accepted.
So at this point, you get your edge.
You get Ruben Bane at six.
This fixes Kansas City's issues at the edge position, at least it gives them, I think,
a legit number one edge for the foreseeable future.
And now we're going to go ahead and just draft Ruben Bane because, oh, look at that car
and it'll take to drop down the number 10.
So you just going to say, draft for a good man, but that paused that stuff after New
World.
Yeah.
So let's take a draft on that.
Caleb Downs goes next, New Orleans goes and takes the lane lane, okay.
So the Browns are now on the clock with the pick that the chiefs had and you're sitting
there with Cardinal Tate still sitting there, you know, the tackle that from Miami is still
sitting there.
I mean, there's definitely some people there.
I'm going to go and keep going because I don't think the chiefs would be looking at
drafting at six and move back up to twenty nine.
Okay.
Yeah, try the Cowboys at 12 with our twenty nine pick and see what else we would have
to give it up to get up there.
Okay.
Without knowing what.
Yes.
Because if you get on the clock, it makes it harder, right?
So try it a little bit ahead of time.
Okay.
So for 12, because I've been trading back successfully with them.
I want to see what it would take to trade up with them a whole lot.
So that didn't happen.
Okay.
I mean, we could try.
No.
No, I'm good.
Up to 29 and 12.
I mean, that's nearly the leap that they made to get Patrick or homes.
So I can understand that that might just be a little bit rich.
So, okay.
So not 12, but what about maybe 15?
Yeah.
And the bucks are a trade partner that I do like.
So if we look at 15.
So I don't generally think that the AFC is going to be trading with the chiefs.
Generally speaking.
So 15 to 29.
Would they do 74?
No.
74 would not get you up there.
Okay.
So you'd have to do 74 and 109 to go up 14 spots.
Nope.
No, I'm good.
So.
I mean, this is great.
So if you want to try it.
No, I just, I'm curious.
So at this point, Tade has gone the tackle from Miami's gone.
But my name is gone.
Lemon's gone and Spencer Fano's gone.
So at this point, and there's Dylan.
And I mean,
there's still somebody on the clock that I'm really interested in getting for the chiefs.
Yep.
I know exactly where you're going.
And so when we get back, can we trade up to get Kenyans deep?
That's a question.
And we're going to find out right after this.
What if sports were traded like markets?
Now you can put your sports IQ to work in real time with Robinhood prediction markets.
It's not you against the house.
It's you participating in a live market.

Robinhood prediction markets changes the game.
It's people moving the action so that when momentum shifts, you can move with it.
I always knew the game, but I never had a dynamic way to apply that knowledge.
Now I can actually take part live in a market powered by people.

Download the Robinhood app now and begin futures and clear swaps trading involved significant risk is not appropriate for everyone event contracts are offered by Robinhood derivatives LLC a registered futures commission merchant and swap firm.
Right.
Can they trade up and go get another player? What do you think at this point?
I think that it's possible it's going to cost obviously, especially jumping 14 spots.
20 might be another target later and we'll see what happens, but like I tried to give up one on nine, but clearly they're looking for for another third round pick and that's that's just pretty costly.
So I don't think we're going to make it there for speak, but he could fall as well.
So what if we do this?
Nope.
Well, we could do that.
So we're effectively giving up one on nine.
Yes, to move back a couple spots each.
I mean, that could be possible. That's a whole lot of trading.
I mean, if you're that big on on sneak, I assume that's your target, correct?
Yeah, I was thinking about sneak. I mean, there's you still have your other white.
You still have Jordan Tyson who I know that you think is your white is your one. He's still the sitting there.
I just don't know that you're going to be getting another impact player at 29.
And after you got your edge, you have to feel pretty good about where can see he's going to be sitting and you can still come back and get a cornering still come back and get a wide receiver.
If you don't go that direction in the next pick. So lots of different ways you could go here.
You can go straight and see if they'll take it.
Yeah, I can give it a shot.
No.
Okay.
So I would be aiming at like 18 or 20 at this point.
See if one of them falls and go from there.
Okay.
Or if there is then another, another double dip possibility.
I am not against two edges in the first round. I will tell you that.
I know people don't like it, but I would take mess it or at the in part of round one in not care.
I don't care that is 25.
Doesn't matter to me.
Sleep goes immediately at that.
So there went that plan.
My guy Tyson, who was going to work out on April 17, we just found out today is still out there on the board.
And let's see.
Okay.
I'm going to ask the door goes at 18.
Jordan Tyson goes at 19.
So there's a lot of both of your options.
Terrell, who has been linked to the chiefs a little bit lately in mock drafts goes at 20.
So now you're sitting at 21.
I don't think that you're going to be getting a trade with the Steelers and the charging.
I'm going.
That's where I was going.
So let's go look.
Philadelphia.
Can we get up to 23?
We can.
What's it going to cost us?
They would do it for.
Yeah.
A matter of 69.
Try 76.
I'm cheap.
No.
Try it again.
Okay.
Now at this point, if this goes through, we will have given up what?
Be minus two in total draft picks.
I don't know if that's really the direction we want to go.
So 169 to 176 is not a big thing.
Try that by itself and see what it does.
This.
Yeah.
They're on the clock.
Okay.
So nice.
Now.
Now you're in the position of.
A manual.
A guy who's got some ball skills.
I wouldn't say that he's.
He's a.
True free.
But they get a lot done.
You have Blake Miller who is not a tackle that I would take in the first round,
but some people would.
I'm not a kind of fuck guy.
Teacher Parker is well above him on my board, as is Derek Moore.
You guys can see my board over at NFL 33.
If you want to check that out, I'd appreciate it.
And you can hear me over at RGR football as well.
So keep scrolling.
Because I think we're in a good position here to take the number one defense of tackle or double up at edge.
Because the top defense tackle on my board is kidding.
Simtine or D double up at edge.
That's the question.
He's not a fast paid.
What you've done, this off season,
shows that you paid George pearl office, and you intend to keep him.
He's the only survivor from maybe their best draft class in.
Five years.
Yeah, but if you draft.
Bane.
And you draft Parker now, you have four edges, probably for the next two or three years.
Because you already have joladi as well as Carl office.
So I would think the you'd be pretty much redoing that room,
And I'm not opposed to that.
I say take the guy that you think makes the biggest impact.
It's me that's got to be edge.
I don't.
Yeah, I'm going to go T.J. Parker.
Okay.
And then at this point, I don't think we can be expecting to make a trade.
So I'm just going to let it roll.
Yeah, what we can do, depending on the way this falls.
So Kayden does go there, right at 30.
So we wouldn't have an opportunity to select him.
Had we stayed stood pad as well.
Really interesting the way that this fell.
Because my number three and four defensive tackle.
Behind Kayden McDonald and Peter Woods are right here at 40.
Have to be considered there.
There's also at least one other guy that we have to take a look at.
Because he's just two incredible.
And he's going to be in the corner backward.
Who you thinking?
I know ponds has got to be there, right?
He didn't.
Oh, no, he already went off at 38.
He's risen.
Yep.
He's risen.
That's crazy.
Okay, so here's here's what I would say.
With him gone.
Malik Muhammad would probably be my next choice at corner.
Nothing against Chris Johnson, who is also a good player.
Cece is not exactly my cup of tea.
So that's okay.
Cold mode, I think, is probably a bit overrated here.
Do you have him as a second round, Gray?
But way towards the bottom rather than the top.
So take a look at that trade.
Who's offering us what 51?
That's a ways we're going to lose out on most of those guys.
So I would say either go defensive tackle.
Or we try to reach a little bit and trade and take a player
that isn't quite in this lofty rage.
I mean, we could get another third round pick, potentially.
True.
We're going to miss out on the top tier of defensive tackles if we do that.
We've already missed out on what I think is.
We've already invested two, we've already invested two in two edges.
So we're already investing heavily in our defensive line.
So my issue, my issue would take into defensive tackle here.
Is while I think they could continue looking that direction.
That's investing pretty much everything in your defense,
which is not a horrible situation.
But I would think that they would also be wanting to look offense.
I don't know.
Getting another third round pick is just tempting to me.
So, but I don't care if we go ahead and continue drafting.
Let's go.
We're swinging for the fences this time, right?
Yep.
So Lee Hunter is the bigger, nastier guy that like will play all three doubts.
He's a three down defensive tackle.
He's not quite the pass rusher.
That's what brings the juice.
And we'll get after the pass or so of the two of them.
I would say that he's the better fit knowing that they have Tonga on board now.
Over and over a lot coming back, etc.
But I mean, if we want to just sell out for defense,
that's probably the way that I would go.
Christian Miller.
Yeah.
He's a new defensive tackle.
Okay.
Imagine that you liked another Georgia Bulldog.
I know right.
It's nuts.
Sometimes things happen for a reason.
Now there are other things that we can get done.
If the players goes there, a guy that I do like he's an extreme athlete,
Brazill goes another extreme athlete that we would have been looking at.
We've squared away the thing that I think is an shortest supply.
Oh, Tom Nick, we're just sitting here at 74.
That's another big three down defensive tackle who's got some juice in the past rush as well.
He would be a fallback if we hadn't been able to get a defensive towel yet.
He'd be the guy that you're looking at.
So now you want to look,
I think right now at what's left at skills in tight end and wide receiver versus small.
Claire, I think would probably be the fit didn't have the time at Ohio State that he had at Purdue.
So definitely have to build that in.
But I think as a two punch to Travis's last season, I think that would be good.
But we're going to have to make that decision and get funky with it.
When we get back from this one because I want impact players,
that's what's got to come next after this.
As the new year gets going and a lot of people try to simplify the routines,

All right, impact players, where are we going?
I think Claire's got to be the guy here, you're not going to get a similar player after this, but before we make that selection, who else do we want on this roster? That's what we should look for next and we should take maybe 109 and 210 try to trade up behind this pick.
So let's take Claire here.
And how far do you want to drop? Just just pop it right there. Let's let's see what's on the board. No, we can't see the players at this point.
So that's the hard part. Yeah, see what they need for that. Let's see what we can move up. I don't think we're going to get into the 80s.
I think it's probably going to be a 90s pick that we can move into, but we're selling out for this one in this scenario and we're trying to be a little bit wild.
We're going to get impact players orange did go to plays to selections later. So that is something to keep on on our list there.
So 109 and 210 is not going to get it done to get the 84, which is what I figured, but I wanted to see it's good at 89.
Chicago.
I still don't know how Chicago is going to the 90s.
Okay, about 96.
Just not look like they would take that either.
We can do one 109 and 176 to go to 96.
We want to make more selections than that, don't we?
I would think so. So let's go ahead and keep going because we're not going to be able to get up where we want to anyway.
So let's at least get to close to 100 and then we'll see.
There's Malik Muhammad who's on my list as a DB option.
Okay, so now we're at 100 with Jacksonville on the clock. I'll let that one slide.
109 and 210 42% chance.
I mean, we could do that doesn't really give them a ton of draft picks.
No, but you've already got four picks at this point. So I think we just let it go and see what we can get it 109.
Nusk goes off the board there. I have Nusk a lot higher on my hubi more than most people do.
Okay, so tight ends out. We've already got a tight end.
Don't think you'd want to be really looking at running back in the fourth.
I don't think they'd be going deep into tackle after already doing that.
I mean, I'm not going to lie like they've already done something to where they won't do it.
But this is kind of not necessarily the fourth, but if the chief still had a fifth round pick.
That's where I would have considered a guy like Carson Beck just because I think that they need to develop somebody to have behind him.
But they already did the Justin field deal. So don't think that's going to be something they'll be looking at.
I agree. And if they did it to be a super long shot, I went through a scenario 10 and green the other day.
Something like that kind of draft and develop and see whether he comes as a tight end slash, take some hill clone.
Better athlete though, just saying there's my guy bud.
Buds still out here, which we've done before or so.
Yeah, CB safety, wide receiver.
To carry a Davis is an interesting guy. I think Ephesians is probably already off the board. I didn't see him go, but I think he's the better fit for this bag system.
Ephesians price.
No, can I scroll down?
He shouldn't be ranked below. Oh, he is. This board's funky.
But you know, I don't think you have a chance to get into 176.
That's true. Two full rounds ahead. I'm not doing that.
No, I get that. And not that I'm saying we should go there, but it's interesting. Kevin Coleman, Jr. is a guy. I think that I just saw that the chiefs are going to have in for a visit.
So just throwing that out there.
Okay, so Jalen Kilgore. I know there's a lot of people talking about him late around this level.
I would call him DB because he can do a little bit everything.
Jacobi Lane is a guy that that I like. He has not had a good pre draft process.
I get to see some USC games live. So maybe that's why I'm, I'm slanted that way.
I don't know that he'd make it to 176. What I consider that I don't think he's worth 109 though.
So is there a wide receiver that you like or do you want to go to cardio Davis a corner and move on?
I'd say let's take cardio and go.
Okay, drafted. And now we are going to be waiting a while because we have to wait till 176.
And so like I guess as we're about to reflect on this.
Has this been extreme enough? Hit our picks and see what we've done again by getting back to back edges in the first.
I'm, I'm satisfied that this defensive front is going to be more like what we just saw. So you have a win with a defensive process and come at you in waves.
And that's exactly why I think that is why I'm okay with trading up to go get Ruben Bain.
If you think that he is going to be a guy that can dominate and that's the problem.
You're never in a position to be able to go get those types.
The chiefs are never in the position where they can go get those types of players.
If they believe Bain is that guy, I'm fine with giving up draft picks to go get him and make sure you get him on the roster.
But the big question obviously with Bain is going to be the arm length and to do the chiefs care. I don't know.
Yeah, usually they do.
I hear that they're very interested in him, but usually it's very controversial here.
Usually they care at the corner position too and look at what they do with trimmy Duffy.
So we're just going to have to find out.
If it wasn't for the Ken Walker signing.
I would take a try now and should be on this roster because he is a bit between the tackles north and south runner that I really, really like.
Especially when he overtook a guy that honestly is a better athlete than he is in Singleton.
So like he is definitely one of the watch players I have at the running back position.
But given what they've done, especially with Deamer crowd coming on after that fact.
I just don't know if they're going to spend anything in terms of draft selections.
They might pick up another running back UDFA, but I don't know that they're spending a draft.
I think it depends on who's there at 210.
I don't think they'll look at much before that.
But it wouldn't shock me if they take one just late and late unless.
But of course when you're talking 210, you're also looking at this from the perspective of okay.
Who do we want that would be we would be trying to get as a UDFA that we don't think we can get as a UDFA because somebody's going to take a flyer on.
Or somebody else is going to offer more money as a condition to bring him in as a conditional player.
So at this point, now I will say this.
I love the fact that they have loaded up on the defensive line because this is that is a positional group that they have avoided putting talent into.
The one thing that I don't like is we don't have a wide receiver.
That's a little bit concerning to me.
But with the way the draft fell, I think that this is the direction we can go.
And you and I are going to have to have a conversation.
I think we need to do this on the next show on the next conversation and talk about your boy Jordan Heisen.
Because I think there's some conversation that needs to be had there.
Yeah, yeah.
We'll do that on the butter show today, folks.
Yeah.
So if we are going to do this at this point.
So we're not going to be looking at corner.
We obviously probably won't be looking to tie it in.
We've already got that club mix out.
We're going to be looking at the team and the QB at 176.
So now it's a question of.
Who do you get that can step in and give you something maybe in the future, not necessarily going to be coming in to start this year, but maybe something they can.
You know, be a special teams guy this year and then be something more in the future.
Yep, keeps going.
Blacks a home run hitter.
Katy Perry has he and Cassius how have the shortest arms in this edge class.
So he's out.
Don't need a center.
Oh, and he is one of my favorite sleeper players.
He is somewhere between Drew tranquil.
And Jeff Bassa and I don't know exactly where.
But I like the way he plays.
He's a good athlete.
He's better than Jack Cochran.
I'll tell you that.
So I could see going that way.
I'm not going to go that way.
David, if we didn't have two edges, I consider that as well.
Keep rolling.
Keep rolling.
At this level.
It's not about the one 96.
We're not.
There's a guy here.
And we got we should actually check this.
You should probably go back up to the top and just type in Noah Kowski.
Because we don't have a tight end.
Tanner Cossio is one of my sleepers at that position.
So he's available.
Riley is somebody we should take with that next one because he is an H back.
Pull back.
Do a little bit of everything.
Like he's.
He's the physical version of what Noah Gray could have been.
I know it's a little bit more to the receiver.
I picked a lot of these.
So I'm just going to go ahead and give you your guy.
Hi, Nicky at this point.
At one point.
Give me no cost.
We will see if we can get Noah Kowski at two 10.
And folks, thanks for making us your first listen.
Do that again.
If you want the everydayers club.
So you don't have to listen to the ads.
And you want in our discord.
Go check it out at locked on cheese dot super cast dot com.
And then in the bonus episode today.
We will talk about Jordan Tyson and what's.
What's what with the injury thing and the fact that he's going to work out now.
It's kind of good.
Howard's one of my favorite sleepers to.
Harold Perkins is one of my guys.
Harold Perkins is his fastest man started a lane.
And he's 227 pounds.
Yeah, but it's a pretty sure.
Oh, you guys.
Go running back.
He should be there.
Yes.
Take him and run.
Oh, they listed him as tight end.
Okay.
Cool.
There you go.
Okay.
And that's our draft.
So now we're.
Now we have really rebuilt the defense.
That's exactly what we focused on.
And quite frankly, like this goes back to kind of what we talked about.
Like I feel pretty good about the offense where they can go next year.
Obviously, I understand it didn't.
Play out the way that you wanted to.
But I still feel like adding Kenneth Walker adds so much more
dimension to this team.
That I think that they'll be in a much better position going forward.
So at this point.
A plus on on Rubin Bane.
A minus on TGA Parker.
Overall B plus.
They didn't like the Heinecke pick.
Which makes sense because it's about 20 picks higher than they.
They think you could go.
Didn't like no accounts.
Because it's a little bit higher than they expect them to go.
Overall, though.
You got to tie it in that you think can come in and at least help.
Replace Travis Kelsey in the future.
Not going to be the guy that can replace him, but can help replace him.
We wanted to swing for the fences and try to get.
Sadeek, but it was too expensive.
And the problem is is you basically give up.
I think you would have had to give it up.
Basically Christian Miller at that point.
To go gets.
Sadeek.
So I do understand why we didn't go that direction.
But let us know what you think of this draft.
You get two edges.
That I think really replace.
Really changed what this defense can be.
And you add in Christian Miller.
At that point, you've got three new guys that you can rotate in in that top six.
Top seven that you play on a regular basis and rotational.
Or eight, I guess.
I think this is a great scenario for the chiefs.
It gives them a lot of young edge talent.
A lot of guys that can come in and help on the interior or two.
And I do think that, you know, you need to replace your CB a little bit.
So this kind of gives them that as well.
The only thing that I don't like about this draft.
No wide receiver.
But.
You can't get everything you want.
True.
But we're going to talk about a wide receiver in the bonus episode today.
And maybe tomorrow we'll discuss.
How we can approach.
That wide receiver positions.
Thanks for being with us.
And that is going to be it for us today.
Let us know in the comments what you think of this draft.
Tell us what you would have done in the positions we got to.
And if you would have made some of the trades we did.
Trying to rebuild this defense and get this team back to the Super Bowl.
Thanks for listening today.
And we will talk to you tomorrow.
The winner games are officially here.
And if you're anything like us, you're locking in for events.
You only get to see on the biggest stage every four years.
And that's why following the winner games on Fandall just makes sense.
From middle counts to individual events to finding your angle on the sports.
You care about most.
Fandall gives you more ways to say connected to the action.
The drama of curling matches that start slow.
And somehow get intense fast hockey games that feel different right from opening face-off.
The winner games are on.
And there's no better way to follow them than with Fandall.
