Masters week is here and Andrew and Iain are there. Eddie's not in Augusta, but he joins from Pepperell Towers to look ahead to what is always one of the greatest weeks in golf. The three of them cast their keen eyes over the main contenders, while also looking back at events of the weekend, as JJ Spaun once more denied Bob McIntyre, while Matt Wallace went close. Iain also tells us how a multiple major champion ruined his Chinese takeaway, Andrew recounts a day of pointless flights and Eddie announces that he is going to try practising at golf.

He looks at me, he goes, oh, foreigner's not allowed in here.
It's time now for the Chipping Forecast,
in association with Peter Miller,
brought to you by Andrew Cotter, Eddie Pepperel,
and special guest, Ian Carter.
Hello, everyone, or as Jim Nant says at the start of his master's broadcast for CBS
every year, hello, friends. It doesn't say like that. It doesn't sound like that, but he does.
He says, hello, friends. Even if some of those people watching might be very unpleasant,
might not be friends at all. Jim doesn't judge. Everyone's a friend at master's time.
Hello, friends. Ian Carter, who are you, first of all?
I'm fine, thank you. Andrew, you've got one job this week, one job,
and that is to bump into Jim Nant's, because you move in television circles,
and you've got to get him to do a sting saying, hello, Jim Nant.
That's a good plan, actually. I will try and see him.
And every time I see him, he's one of the, so there's recognition,
but I think he's one of those ones that he'll call me chief or my friend, or boss,
he wouldn't say that, but he probably will say, hello, they're friends.
And yeah, and I'll say, Jim, you know, no, my name, do you?
We work together. What's my name, Jim?
And he'll say, I've got a story, I've got a story along those lines for you in a bit, so.
Oh, good, excellent. Oh, no. Who have you met that?
Oh, this is tremendous. Eddie Pepperel, friend, how are you?
I'm okay. Thank you. I'm just, oh, Ian's put a hat on. 96. What was that?
Oh, tell me that. Does that refer to, what does it say above 96?
Does that refer to folders when?
Six back in 96. It says six back in 96.
You've got some folder merchandise on your head.
How do you get that? Chat to Eddie and then I'll tell you that story.
Ian's building up to his funny story. We're all on tenter hooks.
Eddie, you've been playing golf today, haven't you?
I have. How did you know that? Did you, because you told me?
No, that's right. So I did. I've been playing golf.
Yeah, I played at Queenwood this morning. I was guest of Laurie.
And he was in fine form, actually, both on and off the course.
He puts the majestic in logistics. And yeah, it was, it was a good day.
Played with him in Todd Clementson, Stephen Brown.
So yeah, nice down the links.
Fine weather here, just as you've left, unfortunately, during, well,
in Storm Dave. And I'm sure we'll get onto your travel.
The sun is shining through and beautiful.
So are you, are you happy with your golf? Are you, are you just playing,
playing recreational golf so you don't really care, but you're a professional golfer, Eddie.
So you've got to be tinkering. It's been tough because I didn't play well in Scotland.
Then I was really poor today. So I'm, you know, I can accept playing poorly
when I'm not playing professionally up to a point, but it was getting a little bit,
I, the only saving grace today is I made a good up and down on the last to save me in Todd
about 80 pounds each. So I came in when I needed to and, uh, I know, I think I had a text from
San at one point and he said, or Eddie, you need to pull your finger out. But, uh, yeah.
Mr Eddie, where's the money you promised me, you intended to pay me?
Yeah. Okay. All right. Well, that's good. I'm glad you're, I'm glad you're golfing away
and the weather's good and you're enjoying some time at home in front of your, what look like
ochre mahogany shelves in many leather-bound books. Um, and a filing cabinet. Oh, what darkness lies
in there. Much much like the one from, uh, oh, the film would you carry, but I forgot what it's
called to Bruce Almighty. And Andrew, talk us through your last few days because obviously.
No, no, I'm not that genuinely. I was thinking about this and it was, um, nobody, nobody listening
to the podcast wants to hear about travel gone wrong. Oh, oh, they don't know from me because
I'll get I'll get angry and I was thinking in the midst of, of the day of great travel rage
and misfortune, which was Saturday. I was thinking about it, especially when I was talking to, um,
people at the ticket desk trying to sort things out, everything was going wrong.
But I was always trying to be really reasonable. And that doesn't sound like me at all, but
I was thinking they'll be hearing the same angry or sob story from every person in front of them
all day. So they don't want me. So I just said, I don't know, this isn't anything you can do
anything about, but, um, but they sorted you out in the end. You got here. I mean, I'm, I'm in a
gust. I mean, I'm in, I'm in the sparrist, bearist room in the press building at the moment,
which I, I booked. You have to book a little room. You're in, so you're in the content center
at the other end of, which is where television, radio, everything is. It's the other side of
Washington Road. So for anyone who's, who's not been to Augusta, the Augusta national is on
Washington Road, we're actually the wrong side of the road from the golf course. So we're linked by
a shuttle bus. So I could come and see you in the, in the press center, but it would take me,
you know, 10 minutes in a bus ride to, to get over there. And I will be doing that because that's
the way to get to the golf course and get out onto the, onto the, the links, so to speak. So, um,
yeah, it's, it's, it, it never ceases to amaze me every time you come here to just see how big
this has become. All for one week of the year. I've just looked at the Augusta Chronicle.
And they are building a private air terminal, private airline terminal. And it's purely for
this week. Nothing else happens here. The rest of the, how many private jets flights are going to
come in from net jets this week, do you think? Well, I don't, I mean, it's, it's extraordinary.
You used to see them all lined up at the Augusta, uh, regional airports. Yeah. Do you know who could
have done with a private jet? Seven hundred and seventy five. Seven hundred and seventy four. I
thought it was just. There was a number. Yeah. I was trying to have a guessing game. Sorry. Okay.
Seven hundred and sixty eight. Am I close? Oh, not bad. Oh, good. Good. But your travel was all right.
Was it? How did you went? You were out in Saturday, weren't you? Yeah. I flew on, on Saturday,
got into, uh, Atlanta very late in the evening, uh, had a night there and then drove over yesterday.
So, uh, yeah, it was, uh, I mean, compared with, I, I need, I want to go into the details,
but compare the messages. You got the, the ridge. I got all the messages. I saw the rage filled
messages. I mean, beyond rage. I, well, I just thought this, this could be the end, really.
I was thinking about just staying in Dublin because you were looking forward to that journey,
weren't you? I was looking forward to the night seats. Well, I've done it so far in advance.
And I thought I don't have holidays, haven't hundred and six years. I thought I'll do this
2019. I'll do this properly. And the best laid plans of mice and men end up stuck in Dublin. Um,
so what little might the loads of mice stuck in Dublin? So what row should you have been in?
Oh, it's not important, Ian. I think it's just, uh, yeah, no, a good roll. But anyway, the point is,
so, um, the point is that I checked in at Manchester, they were, well, of course, you're traveling
at Easter weekend. And you're, you're suddenly, you're, you're already in the first circle of hell
because you're surrounded by all the good people going on their holidays, but, you know, not
necessarily. So I'm sorry about like, there are huge groups of children, they were all off to
Disney, world in Florida. And they were doing the same sort of flight as me. You go through Dublin
and then from Dublin on to Orlando. Anyway, I checked in. I got my two boarding passes,
um, because I wasn't able to do it on the phone. This is very tedious, but hey, I'm going with it.
So, and then as I was going through security, I was looking at the second boarding pass. I was going
gate closes at 915 for flight to America. That's, that's really tight because I don't really land at 845.
And I know I didn't book it with that time to turn around. And then a little more closely
the second boarding pass. And it said 915 on April the 6th Monday. So I've got two days between my flights.
I thought, what, what fresh nonsense is this? So then I, an email pings in as I'm going through
security saying, your American Airlines, God, Dan, I'm going to name them. They're not,
I mean, American Airlines is not a friend of the tripping forecast. So an email comes in saying,
your flight has been delayed. Your new flight is on Monday, the 6th of April. But I'm through
security. So I'm now committed to going to Dublin. My luggage has gone through happily signed in
by the guy in the desk who gave me a cheery wave and sent me through security. Not questioning the
fact that my two flights of two days apart and my luggage is disappearing off to God knows where.
And then I spend the next two hours on hold to various airlines saying, what's going on? Anyway,
so I ended up flying to Dublin, waiting there for three hours, flying back to Heathrow.
And then, and then getting on a, I got on a later flight. And it wasn't the same seat. It wasn't
the same row. And there was, there was much dejection and everything. I mean, I got there. And
these are first world problems. Children were involved as well. I mean, there were lots of
travel. The future. Yeah. They were excited about going to Disney World. And I shared their
excitement and joys. I started there going, well, I'm going to Dublin and just going straight
back kids. What do you think about that? What do you think about that for an adventure ride?
Yeah. So, but then I just, and then I thought, I've downloaded the Amazon documentary,
about Rory. About Rory's win last. And I watched it for five minutes. I went, there's so much
in Carter. I just switched off. So I was so angry. So I listened to podcasts about the
Punic Wars instead. And Elizabeth the first, which I enjoyed those. So, yeah. But anyway,
here now, I knew we'd get out of him eventually.
Oh, he's been simmering. Do you know what I was, when I was running through? This is the thing,
when I got to Dublin, I thought, because initially I had a 45 minute turnaround to get my flight
back to Heathrow. So I was doing that thing of pushing past me. I thought I felt like John
Cleese and clock wise is a lot of film. Clock wise, clock wise, yeah. Clock wise,
because trying to get to his headmaster's conference and not it, just something like that.
I was pushing past me and going, excuse me, excuse me. And then I went to the transfer
desk and they said, no, no, you're going to have to go out through security and check in again.
So what? So I did that. So, but then getting into Dublin, I'm standing in the queue for
immigration. And then I became one of those people that I love saying, I'm sorry, I've really
got to get to the front because I've got to get out to come back in again. And then I realized,
of course, I'm in the, I'm in a queue with people who don't necessarily understand what I'm
saying. But I said, chipping forecast, big deal. And they, they waved me through. Anyway,
and then I've been, I was bumped off that flight anyway, because they'd oversold it.
They'd oversold the flight. I said, I wouldn't talk about it. And I haven't really, there's more
detail to it. But this is master's week. This is, I'm sitting in the press building at Augusta.
And there'll be somebody listening in the outside of the door and they'll be reporting and saying,
you know, they're not talking about golf at all. I think next year, no accreditation.
Someone's talking about winning money at Queenwood. So many stuff.
Yeah, good. Here we are at the masters. Excited. Are you excited, Eddie? Does it bring back memories
of 2018? Well, not really, because I was there in 2019. But I wouldn't say I'm tremendously excited,
although I think, I think I will be one. I turn the TV on on Thursday, because the first day
at the masters is, you know, it's top three days in golf, isn't it? It's alongside the open
and a rider cup. So yeah, quite excited to see it. I had a look at the weather forecast. It looks
dry and sunny and a bit of breeze early in the week. It's great because that suggests that the
course is going to get firm and fast as the week goes on. So it'll be nice to see an Augusta.
Okay, I might not have the wind, but it should have some teeth. So yeah, I think everything looks
as though it's set up for a great week. Yes, there was a little bit of rain here yesterday,
but now the forecast is set fair. One of the most encouraging masters forecasts that I've seen
really, because you can come here in this week and get all sorts. And the great news is that we're
not getting the deluges that we've seen early in the week, that then just alter the playing
characteristics. And I'm like you, Eddie, I'm really excited to see a fast firm Augusta and see
how the players will cope with that. And I think that might actually open the scope.
I think this is a more wide open masters than we've seen for quite some time. I don't think it's
just a, you know, Sheffler, McElroy kind of dynamic that's going to be at play. I think there
are a lot of contenders. Yeah, I will do a sort of full master's preview in a minute. And again,
a reminder that we're going to be Ian and I are going to be popping up and Wednesday. Yes,
Wednesday after we've heard from all the players, we'll do sort of later preview hearing from some
of the players, et cetera. So we'll sort of skirt through things here with a little bit more
of a broad brush. Eddie, I wasn't talking about 2018 and you playing in the masters. I was talking
about, does it bring back memories of Patrick Reed's victory in 2018 and Baba Watson finishing
fifth. That's all I thought. That was a great master's. That was one of the, it was a great
master's, you know, Rory famously. I think everybody rooting for Rory apart from Patrick and
well, maybe not even his mum, but yeah, it was a special one. So he's, you know, we'll go on to
him because I do think he's a player to speak for sure. Yeah. But we've got to hear about the 96
baseball cup and six strokes back. So were you given that by someone within the Fowler for a moment?
So I was in Walmart yesterday. I just ordered a Chinese takeaway and I just wanted to get some of
those powders that you can put in your drinks to get your minerals back up. And so I popped into the
Walmart to get them. And they're quite hard to find. So I, and you know what it's like when you're
in a supermarket, you're not familiar with, you just go all over the place. And it was really,
really weird because I thought to myself, wouldn't it be funny if I saw a pro, you know, here,
like I did a few years ago at the players championship when I bumped into Ian Polter at there
in a Walmart in Jacksonville Beach. And literally, I walked around this corner and you forget
what a huge man he is. And there's Nick Fowler in this bright pink jumper. And he's got the trolley
and he's filling out the trolley and he looks so concentrated. And you know what I'm like, I
famous people, I get very tongue tied around. And I mean, he kind of knows me. I've done loads of
things with him over the years. But then you kind of do those things. And then the next time you see him,
he's obviously really busy or whatever and doesn't really acknowledge you. And so I thought,
well, I'm not going to go up and say, hey, Nick, you know, or anything like that. So I then pretended
to be really concentrated on what I was doing. But obviously I was intrigued to see what he was
doing in the aisles with his suit with his trolley and everything.
Like some gin. So anyway, this, this carried on for, and every time I went down an aisle, he'd be in
that aisle. But he wouldn't say anything. I wouldn't say anything. And then eventually I got what I
wanted and I got paid my money. And as I was paying my money, he comes with this trolley with his
wife Lindsay and daughter as well, Georgia. And, and he, he looks at me, he goes, oh, foreign
has not allowed in here. And he said, how are you doing? And came up and then she, she's,
and then so, so it was just surreal. I'm standing in Walmart. And we had this massive conversation.
Yeah, but did you say to him, well, I'm just going to introduce me, Nick, to, to, you're lovely.
Well, he then, he then said, you know, Lindsay, don't you? Like, like this, but he didn't say,
Lindsay, this is Ian. This is chief. But what he had said to me was, and I thought this was quite
interesting. He said, I just read your piece on the BBC. And I like what you said about Tiger.
And I said, oh, interesting, because I thought what you said about Tiger was very interesting as
well. So we had this sort of conversation. But then, and so I shook hands with Lindsay and said,
hi, Ian Carter, BBC. And then we got into a really big conversation about various, various things
going on in the world of golf. And, and that, that was it, not, and, but the conversation went on
so long, I'm starting to think, my, my Chinese is getting cold now. So, so eventually I go off to
the Chinese takeaway. And as I'm going in, I hear Ian in and Nick, who I have to say, looked
fan to bearing him has had heart surgery in the not too distant past, came sprinting over the
car park and he said, hey, you've got to have one of these. And walk into the press center,
wearing one of these. And it's the cap. It says six back in 96. So it commemorates, obviously,
30 years ago, when he came from six shots back to be Greg Norman. So whatever, it was one of the most
surreal things I've, you know, ever encountered. You go into a supermarket. And for me,
genuinely, he is one of my all-time great sporting heroes, you know, as I grew up and saw what he did.
And, you know, I presented the program in 1996 when he won, won that on five live. It was,
I was just extraordinary. Yeah, there's my story. No, it's good. I like that. Did you see what he was by?
No crickets, you know, you're not getting any crickets for that. That's a genuinely nice and interesting
story. And you're right. Faldo, he is one of the all-time greats in golf. And yeah, it's
interesting because he was a commentator and people, modern players, they always out of touch, etc.
He knew how to get it done. Absolutely brilliant goal for, and one of Britain's finest ever sports.
So him handing out his own merchandise. Is this, I mean, obviously John Daly does something.
I think he does something similar. The week of Augusta. Is this now a thing? Anybody else?
Is, is Gary Player handing out? Well, you could have a baseball card. 2018 Masters. It's a good,
yeah, from, you know, six head to MC or something like that. But yeah, I don't know.
It is a force of you playing with Jeff Knox on the baseball card. Yeah, I retired him.
Good. I know, see. He couldn't beat Rory. You know, he talked to me. It's, um, no, actually,
Jeff, you have to read it that way. You beat him. He couldn't be Eddie. That's right. Yeah. Yeah.
I beat Rory. Couldn't be Eddie. Yeah, because you said over 30, 30 years, 30 years since that
famous one, 40 years since I think the greatest master, well, possibly the greatest masters of all
time, 1986. I mean, last year was special, but very no. But if you look at the, the masters as a whole,
1986, when Jack necklace of 46 wins it and, you know, Sevy, Pearl, Sevy puts her in the water on
the 15th and Greg Norman Flounders again. Um, yeah, I think that was, that was probably not from
a British point of view. But I think most Americans would point to that or to Tigers,
Tigers win in, um, in 2005, maybe or 97. I mean, so many. But what's your favorite Eddie and Ian?
Well, I haven't really got one, but I was just thinking that 86, 96 without it.
Oh, six. I've got no six. Oh, that's going to kill my, uh, little four, they have 26.
26. Oh, there's michaelson. Oh, I was thinking of 16 when, when Danny came back from, you know,
and speeds collapse. Um, yes, just so many. That, that was the one I, I mean, the, the
anniversaries are uncanny this year, um, 10 years since, since will it. And that 2016
masters was an absolute classic. I mean, people don't remember it because they think that Danny
will, it was a freak winner. He wasn't a freak winner. He was number 13 in the world when he won
that. Yeah. And, but it was for drama, you know, what happened for all. Yeah. And the
term for all in westwood was in there. And it was, it was a really classic masters that you
want, want to look back at. Yeah. It's, it's good. It's right. Sergio, Sergio's in 2017 was a,
a huge one for me, being such a Sergio fan. Um, that was great. I think he beat Justin,
didn't he? I think it was between them too. Yeah. That was a brilliant back nine. Um,
God, there's just been so many. You think about to shalt finish the birding for the last four
hours. I think that's the only time that's ever been done. That was amazing. I think that's
something we could maybe see this year with the weather forecast. It would be great to have five
or six guys within a shot or two. As they get into 14, 15, 16, because as we all know, that's
where the magic really happens or gustar. And, um, and it would be interesting to see what they do
with the 15th tea. I know the teas come back. Don't know that that's made it a better part five.
Obviously went forward last year for the Sunday when Rory did what he did, but I think that we
need to make sure that on the Sunday, we've got guys going in there with mid to long iron so
that there's equals and some fluctuations. Yeah. Well, we'll do, we'll do plenty more master's
chat to come, but we've also got around lots of other golf and quite exciting golf in Texas as
well and elsewhere in the world. But first of all, this. Eddie, how meticulously do you plan out
your outfits for the week of a tournament? Do you lay them all out? I often do pre-pack with an
idea in mind. Yeah, shot on top of trouser, shot on top of trouser, so forth. But I've never had them
scripted for me. At least I can't recall having them scripted for me. I may have done a long time
ago. Well, that will happen again, but at the moment, you're just free to wear whatever you want
within the Peter Millar range for tournaments. But there are actually four professionals
wearing Peter Millar in the Masters field who are in the top 35 of the world golf rankings.
They're all wearing crown crafted fine crown crafted collection this week. So,
get Justin Rose, you get Cam Young. Those are two players that could be contenders. Again,
Ryan Gerard is playing so well. Sam Burns, they're all in the crown crafted collection.
I've laid out all my clothes for different days as well. I don't get them prescribed for me.
I just say, hey, I'm wearing the Estino Lino shirt in navy blue today. In fact,
I'm head to toe in Peter Millar. I've got the Odin sneakers on in blue as well. So everything,
everything matches. Gail Grace, search performance trousers and one of the wax braided belts.
But anyway, I decided a long time ago you don't necessarily have to wear golf clothing to cover
golf tournament. In would not, if you were allowed to agree at this point, because so many people
just wear the golf gear and wander around and I don't want to look like quasi-players. But anyway,
this is what Peter Millar walks so well, because we always stress that a panel is for on and off the
course. So I'm wandering around in my linen shirt. People are going, hmm, he's not a player,
buddy. Sam looks quite the deal. Who would you take, Eddie, between Cam Young and Justin Rose,
actually, for the fight? In a fight, either of them. But this week, I like Cam Young. In fact,
he's going to be my pick. What I like most is his outfit on Thursday. I've got a white light
orange sorbet jumper coming in, which look that's a bit of me. So he's my pick on the course
in every way this week. You've got to look good, though, to Cam. You've got to be confident and be a
Cam Young style person to carry off the sorbet, I think. Oh, just give it a go and see if you can.
And if your friend's pointing a laugh at you, then you know you can't. But you'll know within
yourself that you look good. Actually, I was thinking about Justin Rose's record here. So runner-up
three times, seven top 10s. Is he the best not to have won? And there are two players who, I think,
there might be, there will be others, I'm sure, but in fairly modern times, there are two who are
comparable. Any else was so near, but he was, he was only runner-up twice, six top 10s. Remember,
Justin Rose runner-up three times, seven top 10s. Who would beat both of them, Eddie? And we've
mentioned him already. This podcast we have, are we? Yeah. This shows the one really listening to the
ones. Well, I was thinking Kenny Perry, you see. And then my mum wanted to Charlie Hoffman,
brilliant Thursday player. Are we John Daly? No, it is Hannibal from the Punic Wars. No, it's Greg
Norman runner-up three times, third, three times, eight top five finishes. Or Greg, so there we are.
Anyway, we're getting a little bit off the topic here. Head to Peter Miller website and check out
the Crown Crafted Collection and look like a master with Peter Miller. Greetings, I'm Tom Watson,
you're listening to The Chippin Forecast. Texas, the Valero Texas Open. I mean, it was exciting.
I was watching it all the way through, even when I was running through Dublin, the report,
I was checking things out because I saw that Bob McIntyre was going well, Michael Pange was going well,
Matt Wallace was going well, did we go about? I mean, it was at one point, it was dominated by
European players. In the end, little JJ comes through. JJ comes through. And fair play to him.
He finished Birdie Eagle par and had to get up and down for the par, really good up and down.
The last to finish at 17 under, and that pipped Matt Wallace. Only one bogey in the entire
weekend for Matt Wallace. As he finished at 16 on day, he had his bogey on the 13th, he pared
the 14th, and he birded in after that. So finished on a real sort of, with the accelerator,
flat down, Matt Wallace. Obviously, he was in the position where he had to win to get into the
masters. So he was giving it absolutely everything. Classic Matt Wallace, really, when he's in the mood,
he suddenly sees the whole, like a bucket, I think, and finishing with those three straight
birdies, he made the rest of the field. But bearing in mind all the weather delays that they'd had,
they all had really, really long days on that final day to get the third round done and basically
just stay out there and carry on playing. Bob McIntyre was out very, very late. He called the 17th to get
to 16 under. So a birdie would have tied JJ Spawn, but he couldn't make the birdie there,
brilliant T-shirt on 17 drivable par for and hold out for the eagle. Spawn was on the range,
watching it play out as McIntyre used one of these really old looking three words with the white
head on it for the second shot and hooked it way, way left behind the grandstands, had to take a drop
and couldn't get it up and down from a very muddy lie. But a good week for him, and only twice
as someone had someone won the week before and then gone on to win the Masters. One of them is Scott.
Yes, Andy did it with a green bire. Yeah, and the other fill. So, obviously, McIntyre's in
really good form, Spawn's obviously in really good form. Ludwig, final round 70 is the worst round
of the week. And that, you know, his question marks again, the final day. You know, I just think one
or two question marks there because he has been really consistent in terms of living on leaderboards
of the last few weeks. But those final days, he just looks a little frail. Yeah, I mean, you know
Matt Wallace, well, I really wanted him to do it. I wanted to see him at the Masters. He's
at a few struggles, but he's such a talented player. Yeah, I think Ian hit the nail on the head. It was
a Matt Wallace performance. I watched him finish and, you know, finished the four in the last five.
And does there he got on that run? Got it in that mindset that we are familiar with seeing him
get into and pull off these great finishes. I remember him doing that many times on the European
tour many years ago when he would win, when he won multiple times. So, I played with Matt actually
in 2019 in the past three contest at August. So, and he won it now that year. Funnily enough.
But yeah, so I spent a bit of time with him that week in that year, in fact, out in the P.J. Tour.
He's had his struggles, as you said, on the course over the last few years and his performance has
been inconsistent, but he's chucked in the odd great week or he's come first or second. And
again, that shows just how comfortable he is being right up there in contention. I thought
J.J. Spawn came through really well and strongly given that his form hasn't really been anywhere.
But it goes to show that when you win a big competition like the US Open, within the last
12 months, that really stands with you and comes in and helps you and packs you up. So, a few
interesting storylines, Ludwig and another one as well. I think there's a guy who's suffering.
I'm kind of struck by the difference between his AMB game. I don't, I mean, I don't think he's
got a big game. You know, it seems to me that he's either unbelievable and he's on it and he's
top of the leaderboard. Or as soon as he starts to struggle, his inability just to grind it out,
shoot 69 and staying contentioned long enough into a Sunday. You don't expect everybody,
you don't expect anyone to win every week when they're in contention, but he seemingly is getting
out of contention quite early on Sundays from very good positions and that would honestly worry me
because that shows just a lack of a, I think he missed 10 of his first 11 greens in regulation yesterday
and the final round, which is incredible. One thing I would say about Ludwig, however, is he's got
a disproportionately great game for major championships. I would put him in the same basket as
Cam Young because he hits the ball so well and so far and around Augusta that just goes such a
long way. So I do expect Ludwig to feature on leaderboards this week.
Just going back to JJ Spawn, did you see the end last night Eddie when he, the chip on 18,
because I didn't see the chip and they never showed a replay of it and I knew for some reason I
just got distracted and it had happened and I didn't see how it was played but he was, he was down
in that swale, looked like he had a bit of a downhill line, he was short-sighted. So at the time,
I was thinking this is great for Wallace, there was a good chance he's not getting this up and down
and then I saw his marker next to the hole so I didn't actually see the shot. Yeah, actually Matt
was in a very similar position. I think JJ had a slightly more difficult shot and that he was on
the downslope. I don't think it was the most difficult short game shot in the world apart from
the fact of the scenario but he pulled it off and made it look easy. So yeah, it looked very
comfortable. I'm not sure the 17th hole was, it was too easy, there were too many eagles going
on there but look, it did provide an interesting and exciting finish again Bobby Mackin could form.
And I know, well Mark O'Penn should have proved final round, final round 73 but he throws in a
couple of really low rounds in there as well. So I think he is adapting well to life and to clubs
and of course, you know, to fatherhood again. I'm going to Scotty Sheffler in that but yeah,
a few concerns over a couple players that lived to go, but I'm not so Tommy Fleetwood who was
pretty solid and that's almost what you would want. You know, a decent finish the week before
just to show that your game's not too far away. You've had a good run out, you've got yourself
match fit. So Tommy Fleetwood, that's encouraging for him going into Augusta. John Parry again,
tied 14th, tied with the great Sudarshan Yelma Raju but John Parry just does it over and over again,
you know, he's proving so consistent. Paul Weining had a 30th as well so there's, you know,
signs of him coming back to the life as well. So it was interesting all round I thought.
Very much so. What one thing that actually interested me in the context of the Masters was someone
who didn't play and that was Justin Rose who had intended to play there and at the players'
championship was actually talking about how when he engages his best performances in the weeks that
he wants to play best, they're often the second week in a sequence and so that made sense to play
in San Antonio and then I saw he wasn't in there and I wrote my preview piece on Justin so I
contacted his manager last week to say, you know, there's something going on here but no, it was
purely that he wanted to be getting himself ready and honing his skills for Augusta. I think
he is targeting this week maybe like never before given that for the second time he lost a playoff
and has come so desperately close, has led so many times at Augusta and at 45 years of age,
you know, how many more chances are there. So I know I see on his social media he's posted
a video of him driving down Magnolia Lane and I think that is the story for me this week if he
could do it that you know if we to get anywhere close to matching the romance of last year.
The story for me is if FIFA La Pacti from Thailand, when it
and yeah, unlikely. And we will come onto the master just a couple of more things to round up
on the LPG, the Big Aramco Championship in Vegas. Lauren Cochlan won it by five shots, but five
shots from Lionel McGuire. So great finish for Lionel McGuire and Nelly Cordo who finished strongly
at the end. Charlie Hull 15th and then there's the Anwar of course as well. Just very quickly on
on Shadow Creek. I mean that was set up like a major seven under one, seven over was where the cut
was. McGuire has had success there in the past because he used to play the match play there.
2024 she reached the final and lost to Nelly Cordo in that. So no surprise that McGuire and
Cordo are up there, but Cochlan, I mean she won by five with rounds of 73 and 72 over the weekend.
That shows you and I genuinely think that that is you know if you look at the top 15 players so
many of the best names were up there and you know setting up but we were talking the other day
about what was it 28 under 26 under winning 26 under losing that was it 28 under winning the
Ford event. This is the kind of golf that you want to see the world's best women playing.
So a really interesting week I think at Shadow Creek. Yeah. The Anwar is becoming a tradition now
played just before the Masters. They got some national women's amateur Maria Jose Marine from Colombia
wanted. Colombia got some good golfers in terms of it was just thinking South America that Argentina
was the power base and of course it's still still very strong but Colombia seems to produce a huge
number of high quality golfers now. So she's only five foot tall earlier was she Maria and I was
struck by that but did you see the did you see the story about a caddy? I do not. I'm about to
get an award. Darren Wu was a fireman who does a bit of part time cadding at Champions retreat which
is where the first round is played and she he cadded for her in a practice round and they got
on really well and her dad Jose had cadded for her in her previous attempts to win the Anwar
and so my dad said listen I'm going to stand aside and got got the fireman in and of course
a great victory but the big talking point here is asterisk tally 17 year old who was leading
until she bogeered 11 and then on 12 put two balls into the water from the back bunker
and racked up a quadruple bogey seven he also made a double bogey five on 16 and you know
it was in tears afterwards but and Bryson de Shembo was among the first to to console her afterwards.
All right I didn't see that. It was really interesting her tactics on on the 12th because she
went into the back bunker hit it slightly skinny couldn't get the couldn't get the club underneath
the ball she said afterwards and it ran and it trickled down into Ray's Creek. So then she had
the option did she play the next one from the other side of Ray's Creek or did she drop in the
bunker and she said because they could rape the bunker she decided to drop in in the bunker and
again not enough sand underneath the ball for her liking and thinned it into the Ray's Creek again
and then went the other side of the water and got up and down from there for the seven so
yeah that's not true we've seen people dropping in bunkers during the masters.
No a couple of things as well. I was thinking the other day about Augusta and you know
Holes 12 and 13 over the years and how crucial and then this isn't original thinking but
just if you're a left-hander on those two approach shots how much they benefit you potentially
because if you hit poles on 12 or pushes rather if you're a right-handed golfer and you pull it
on 12 you're in trouble if you push it on 12 you're also in trouble because generally when you
push it's weak so it's short-right in the water whereas if you're a lefty it's the complete opposite
obviously. I was Michelson used to stress that yeah so it's a winning strategy wasn't winning
strategy but it's really for those guys you know the approach shots into 12 and 13 which is so
often a crucial they just really work in their favor yeah it's amazing to think it took until 2003
for a lefty to win and it was Mike weir it looks to Mike thinking well no but I mean self-sequence
of that weir yeah bubble Watson twice Michelson three times yeah they just want as many leftes
in the old days they used to have a bit note of them at school the semistrists
well I think as well on that you know it's that the topography in the general condition not the
topography so much I suppose but the condition of the course would have gotten so much better
at the turn of the millennium and as in the fairways would have been quickly the Greens would
have become quicker and I mean as we remember with Fred Couples the bullstopping on the bank you
know you'd never see that happen anymore so I think that would have played into it the degree of
accuracy and precision that's required Augusta as unquestionably and I don't wish to make
myself unpopular with the old listeners but put unquestionably we've gone up over the years so
you require more skill and and maybe that then plays into what I'm discussing um you're excited
about this humiliating no I'm just just saying um Marin's ball stopped on the bank Ella Fred Couples
in the course of her win and she had she was playing a head of tally so she had no idea of
of the troubles that then hit tally afterwards but Marin was convinced she said it was a miracle
it was like god held the ball up for her and prevented it from tumbling into race creak I mean
again I thought that was a quote that you would enjoy why you've got to say is he or she or it so
taking taking the right off the ball in other aspects of the world but as long as they're keeping her
ball from going back down into race creak then that makes all the wars and famine we can we can
suffer at all as long as she's winning anwa now the email I was talking about you that I thought
you were going to excite her about was when you're talking to runoffs I'm just going to make
this hiding email in on the hmm this is the big telling it about runoff no this is the the the
height that the grass is cut to the masters tease five sixteenth of an inch now I would say at that
level you can probably just say a third of an inch because five sixteenth is as close to a third is
really going to get but no the masters five sixteenth of an inch must be the height the more has come
out I've got five settings in my mind I've been going three recently in the back garden because
so far two two you just have to pick up too much grass but I'll I'll be wishing a press release
as well but the height the grass anyway fairways three eighths of an inch second cut one and
three eighths of an inch callers a quarter of an inch greens surrounds five sixteenths of an inch
again same as the teas and then greens an eighth of an inch oh what about that Eddie Eddie's holding
his fingers on an eighth of an inch apart that's amazing that's the detail that nobody wanted
to hear about there but it's it's detailed nonetheless so I just hope there are you know it
as you were saying that the the conditions because of the weather I think we are going to get the
conditions where there is going to be lots of hard bouncing and the greens and running off and
so we're testing you know whoever wins is going to have to be I'll say in all aspects of the game
and I and play we talk about it Augusta but short game I think we're going to see a bit of a master
of the short game winning when when I played it came out of the media ballot in 2012
I was struck that the grass on the fairways was slightly longer than I thought it would be
yeah I agree um actually for a memory that that's that's one of my thoughts as well it uh yeah
hitting off the fairways there is different hitting off the fairways almost any other place you
play for sure um yeah and uh remember from it would encourage you to get a little steeper
onto the ball a little more into the back of the ball um which again you know I'm thinking about
players that have done well over the years you michaelson speeds guys who are comfortable getting
steep into the back of the ball um but I don't know is it all great players and there are so many
you could pick up I'm I mean I know we'll keep talking about it so we go on I'm fascinated to see
how some of the live golfers get on um because I think there's so much to be said for Bryson and
John Rams chances apart from just the fact of the golf course and and I just worry for them in that
they've not coming in here playing golf courses that will have tested them the way this will
whereas the camions of the world the boy they've played a tougher on a golf and they're going to be
used to very quick grades okay we'll go through the main contenders in uh and any other news in
just a moment but uh now we're going to do this
low pinger for the week Eddie who do you think low pinger I mean you might think Victor
Hovlander had a English but I don't think either well a sneaky one would be Corey Connors
well he was he was my not to not to win it and again when we give out names that we think
might win it we're not talking necessarily about winning we're just saying because golf is if you
finish in the top 10 that's a good result and he was tied eighth last year and actually when
you're talking about the steepness required you know of strike on the wedges you know I've talked
with the h-ground wedges I think he's got a combination of s-ground ping s-ground wedges and h-ground
so the s-ground in particular favors that steepness of of strike so he was tied eighth last year
he was 13th of the players 14th of the Valsbar he's uh he's got the same driver as me again it's uh
it's hidden in a very similar fashion the G440 LSD driver blue print s-himes but he's one of the
best s-himes players in the game and that's what you need to digust isn't it really people say
well a great short game or hitting it a huge distance but it's uh an Eddie Pepple's second shot
golf course well I'm not sure I'll go that far but I my only concern for him and I don't know if
this is a concern I've never really seen him hit a ball but I don't know that he hits his eye
super high I think in the greens get firm you're going to want to you're going to want someone who
can hit their eyes high so um and of course there's nothing stopping you doing that with playing
pings of course that's to do with the thing not not the ping um but uh yeah this uh good
let's talk to you what the corner is out there and there's one of you it's even though he's a
wonderful ping player here's a too low don't put your money on him but anyway um for all clubs for
shas for heads for the grinds of wedges the best way that you can um you can get sorted for him is to
be fitted at a qualified ping stalkers but I do want to remind you of this wonderful thing
that ping do in the website web fit it takes just a minute or so answer the questions it'll give you
an accurate reading web fit for putters as well with a long armed or tiny armed you'll get the
right butterfly web fit for juniors if you're interested in full adult clubs for them or in the
prodigy sets it's always ideal if you can go and have a proper fitting but yeah find your grind
make ping your thing um here's a sting
hi my name's Marco Penge you'll listen to the chipping forecast my quads are as good as they look
on tv yeah I was wondering round just before we come to the main contenders they've planted trees
again in over the winter because all last year was the year after how they can land wasn't it when
it suddenly opened up I'm sure they've thickened out again like round the back of 16 and various
places right that because I was expecting to see it looking a bit more open but I wouldn't be
surprised if they had we'll probably have confirmation from friend Ridley's press conference
did you see the player services center have you seen it I haven't seen it no no not as yet
it's just yeah it's at the back of the range and it's this huge building but again looks like it's
been there since time immemorial two-story building vast this is effective with the player's clubhouse
now so they won't really be going near there they'll just be walking from or bugged from the range to
the tea yeah I mean the champions will still go into the champions locker room but this player
services center is I tried to black my way in just have a look around but no I didn't I would never
try to do that because the fear of refusal with just the embarrassment to that I would even if
I were accredited to get somewhere I still don't trust it so I just hang on the edges looking in
yeah and the other thing is patrons seem to be quite excited about about this here the new
masters candy bar which was left because you're not in the press center no they will have them
down in the content center but one was left on every space so there's one for the chipping forecast
it's really a communal one so it says a dark milk chocolate blend with caramel rice crisps
and hazelnut crunch that's what Americans call candy so I'm sort of off that kind of stuff at
the moment well Americans don't do chocolate well either well the other thing they don't do as well
as you might imagine is the pimento cheese sandwich I remember being quite disappointed at that
having had so much good stuff about it but I think we should probably get you both thrown out of the
no I'm quite happy to say that they're terrible that's fine I like the I like the egg salad one
yeah it says egg salad it's not got a leaf in it at all no so two things that Americans do not
do well well though lots of those are currently lots of things but let's narrow it down to two things
they do not do well are chocolate and cheese those are two things they they rely on Europeans chocolate
cheese yes Americans chocolate cheese no let's talk about the main contenders for the masters instead
it's interesting in though because the the big two of the older golf firmament they establish got
there in uncertain form in in sheffler and macaroni and the big two of live are in cracking form
in dishambo and ram correct but I think eddie's point is really really valid as to how much we know
that they're they're in great form they're winning like dishambo's one is last two
ram on live this season I think is worse finishes fifth and everything else has been first or second
because he won in Hong Kong but are those the golf courses to prepare you for the challenge
of the Augusta national and compare those golf courses with bay hill sore grass even san
Antonio last last week so I think that is a really big question mark over ram and dishambo I think
you're right to highlight a question mark over sheffler he became a father again for the second time
nine days ago the whole family is here everyone's happy everyone's settled and suddenly made me
sorry I didn't get the name what is it remy name remy he's favorite cognac he said
nor is remy it's r-m-y I don't know where the name comes from somebody will know and I just
haven't found that out yet but remy so Bennett and remy we name Bennett after mr. Bennett the
hapless janitor and take heart and and and remy after his favorite cognac so he's just it yeah he's
got eclectic tastes I don't know do you think if they have a third one it'll be Martin
yeah we can put them in there
so yes so so yeah so we don't know actually do you know who he's not comparable to in history then
scottie sheffler he's not comparable at all to Henry VIII because he's a two goes are it two
sons so merida remains his his wife unlike Catherine of arrogant or indeed less fortunate Ann
Berlin in fact she's James Seymour but let's let's just bring it back to to the master shall we
um like without all that settled then I actually think the odd shorten on the chances of
of sheffler you know winning it for the third time I could see him just clicking having said that
you know the evidence of his golf up to the point when he last played which was at the players
championship suggested it was a bit ragged by his standards um macro Roy's not got any great
form because he had to pull out of bay hill and was hampered at the players with the back injury
that affected him in the Arnold Palmer hasn't played since played with his dad on Sunday
in the afternoon which you know and I get the feeling that he is he was there Saturday for
Anwar he was there Sunday for the drive chip and putt he is doing all the ambassadorial stuff
that you do as a master's champion he's got the dinner on Tuesday night so really his preparations
are not going to start in earnest until Wednesday morning then he's got the par three competition
with Poppy in the afternoon so I just I mean he's going to be bird and free but I think that's
the only thing going for macro Roy I'd be interested in um eddies taken sheffler eddie because um
he was he's talking about his his form so I was looking down all the numbers that were were
published and it seems to be his irons which is obviously you know the the the best iron play
on the world in terms of accuracy in terms of distance control knowing exactly where it's going
that's scottie sheffler over the last few years but now so he led the PJ tour in approach play
each of the last three seasons in 2026 he's 80th in the rankings and he's driver people
have been talking about as well because he switched between um models the older model and the latest
version and we're still not sure which one he's going to use this week but he's still actually
been a good driver this season he's still top 10 in those rankings but this is interesting
because last season he ranked first in right rough tendency which means he found the right rough
less than any player on the PJ tour this year he's 79th so he's over he's losing things about
to the to the right and you know people such as brand old chambly who've been analyzing his swing
and saying he doesn't recognize this position or that position at all so it's amazing how when we
watch sheffler we think oh he's he just does this over and over again it's relentless but golf
doesn't work that way and even some like sheffler can just lose something but I find that
fascinating in terms of his hands yeah that's a significant drop off I actually didn't know that um
I I think what would give me hope for sheffler is that he's okay just had the baby but um
or other Meredith has but it's that the few weeks off is giving him time to work on the faults
inevitably have come into his game and I and you need that so one would assume the given
he's the best player in the world that he's spent some time good time with his coach and put in
some good hours and I would expect Scotty Sheffler to turn up Augusta hitting the ball particularly
hitting his eyes better than he has been hitting them um I think having that block of time can really
work in your favor I mean the question mark there then is if he finds himself in the position
how's he going to feel in that position over the weekend um again he's won so often over the
last few years you can't imagine that being an issue that's the thing I find interesting about
this master's it's that there are some players coming in here with obvious form
Matt Fitzpatrick I think Cam Young is one to watch Santa Showflake Patrick Reed
there are guys coming in here with form on live as we mentioned there are guys coming in here not
inform like Rory and Sheffler um but when you chuck it all together and knowing what a major puts
on you in terms of the pressure and to win one um I I'm there's a dozen at least a dozen names I
think could easily foresee you could foresee winning but um yeah I look I want to see Scotty Sheffler
get back to the level he was at because I was thoroughly enjoying watching him play at that
level I love watching players hit their eyes as well as he doesn't exhibit the kind of ball control
that he was exhibiting at such a high level I think it's amazing so it's going to be interesting to
golf digested an amazing breakdown a lot of publications do have of all the contenders and they've
ranked them from how many is it Ian it's 91 91 it looks like the field is going to be for the 90th
master they rank it from 91 all the way down to one and their number one is John Ram so
which would be a huge story um yeah I mean that's and and and live take great pride in their big
guns coming to the majors and showing that actually they have the best products well I I think
that that would be the most seismic outcome for the masters given where Ram is in terms of being
in dispute with the DP world tour um basically not in good standing anymore I can't play on the DP
world tour and there is a game of brinkmanship going on now and you get the impression that Ram and
his people think that the tour will buckle on on their stance and everyone I've spoken to at the
tour are basically saying no you know they they were the rules and i.e. if you're going to pay
live tournaments and without permission then you're going to have to pay your fines and he's
abandoned the appeal he is completely isolated now in terms of that whole controversy but if he
were to win the masters he would suddenly put himself back in that position of being a real
preeminent force in the game and that might alter the dynamics because how could you not have
the masters champion from Spain not eligible for a European rider cup team and pressures would come
in I'm not saying that they would buckle to those pressures but it would be a factor and so
I think that would be the most uh extraordinary outcome were were Ram to do it for the implications
that it could carry. I'd love to see a four-way playoff between McElroy,
Sheffler, Ram and DeChemble. Yeah actually no five but in Harry Hall as well on his debut
storming through. Going for the Cornish slam. Yeah yes actually I'm going to try and speak to him
this week as well so I've got Harry Hall and Jim Nance. Am I too tough? I think one thing I would
add in that if John and Bryson were to do well one of them win I think they could accurately reflect
on the importance of live golf Johannesburg as being instrumental in that. I know what I said about
the the golf course not presenting them with the kind of challenge that I think you would really
want and lead up to a major but to play in that atmosphere in front of that many people that's
going to stand them in good stead and you know whereas I don't think they've had that in years
leading up to the masters they've not been playing on great tournament on great courses necessarily
but they also haven't had that massive event you know in a lead up and so I'm not worried for them
in terms of their how they're going to be feeling in the big moments it's just a question of skill
and because as I say you go back to Fitzpatrick what he did at the Valsper on the players
Cam Young these guys they are playing at such a high level to be doing what they're doing on
Bay Hill saw grass firm greens that just prepares your game and and you need to be so unbelievably
sharp and again go back to the weather forecast that's where you're going to need to be
at come this weekend at Augusta if it's firm of fastest we're expecting or hoping it to be
there's an uncanny link from the European tour through to to Augusta with the Dubai Desert
Classic when Danny Willett won in 2016 he'd won in Dubai same with Sergio Garcia when he won
and look who won Dubai Desert Classic this year Patrick Greed so who has a fantastic record here
really fantastic record I mean we've we've named quite a few so we have to just to provide
entertainment more than bona fide tips for anyone but entertaining they'll come back to
they'll come back to and say what were you talking about um I mean it's a shame that Colin
Molakawa still seems to be struggling a bit with his injury because Eddie usually names him as
he's wonderful everything and about January so he's not going to have Colin Molakawa now who
are you going to pick I'm I'm going to pick Cam Young I just think that he is he could potentially
be a J.J spawn story this year is I think he's going to win a major off the back of okay J.J didn't
win sawgrass but came you know very close last year I think he's primed to win his first major I
think he's in great form he is I'm unbelievably well at sawgrass it's the ball a long way um
he's my guy he's my pick it's interesting because you know it is that kind of year where some players
in the top 10 who would ordinarily be saying I'll look at chef I'll look at Mark Roy whatever
this is going to be tough he might be thinking this you know what a more of a chance here go on
Ian tell us who's going to win I've I've got three okay now can I go with three yeah I'm going with
read for the reasons outlined and if it's Patrick for the reasons outlined by Eddie or though I just
wonder whether his ball flight is going to be high enough for these conditions and I'm going
rowman's with rose okay yeah those are good can I go with 8988 players is that possible
I would go I think I think and I don't think it would be an exciting story but I think Patrick
Reed might be the might be the guy he might not I have no idea so don't don't leave to Eddie
Betts and do any of that but yeah well he would be a fascinating story in the other side of what
we were just discussing with John and Liv and he know his relationship with Liv in the ways come
back I mean we haven't touched on Brooks Keppga he's okay not showing the kind of stuff but he
has been here hitting his eyes very well and as we know a great major player and the other thing
to remember first time since 1994 that there's no tiger or fill in the field the Damasters yeah
we haven't actually mentioned the tiger update since last podcast obviously he's taking time
as we as we guessed he would taking time away to try and sort himself out I mean you know
we since since we last spoke we've seen the body cam footage from the police officers which is
it's sort of tragic comic it's not it's not it's not it's just when you're you know it's
lowering the phone and saying I was just on the phone to the president there's a you know the two
things are very close together the tragedy and comedy of it and you know hopefully he will you
know sort himself out not not for golfing reasons or for anything like that just to as I say for
the second stage of of his life but that's an interesting yeah that's very interesting
as far as 1994 yeah so Phil Mickelson not here because of the same reason he gave for missing
the start of the live season which is that there is a family health situation going on and
everybody is not not that you you're you're prying but there is just no indication what the nature
of that is you know I've asked various people just out of curiosity but who knows so
obviously wish him well because a master's without Phil Mickelson is is somewhat diminished I think
he's one of the the great figures of this tournament and actually at his age and even with
form on live round here he you know you wouldn't have been surprised to see oh there's there's
Mickelson challenging or suddenly up in the top 10 whatever because knowing how to get it
around here is is a big part of things so there we are again we're going to be doing Ian and I will
be doing a pod on Wednesday evening to drop with you going into Thursday morning to to hear from
some of the figures and give our final our final thoughts which I'm sure are eagerly anticipated
and then we'll be doing nightly ones as well just rounding things up for you and Eddie will join at
the end of of all things and if you've been vaping throughout this pod or something you've been I don't
know what to do I'm wondering what it is you've got I when I was in China the Ritz Carlton so I
trapped you took up vaping well doing many things I took up and my microphone comes with a very
long wire and it's as you can imagine messy and not packed with that packed with that case so
it's everywhere and they kindly put these two little things around the wires and the clips
effectively plastic little rubber clips just tidy the wires of the microphone up so it was just
very nice housekeeping that and made work but I've taken one off and I was just chewing it I think
it was the destroy that bought me okay wow I was just about to say by god if that story doesn't
get quick it said I don't know what will yeah no it's a fair point as well um did I ask
I see I know me and just goes without asking so Eddie just speaks honestly you're my microphone I'm off
yeah um so Eddie you're going to be watching it but I'm I'm hope we you know this is a podcast
as much about uh about your golfing journey is anything else so what uh do you have what sort
of plans do you have don't shake your head down as if you're good nopel I'm playing on Saturday
for Alfred uh for Alfred Heath so I'm going back there for the first time in a long time which I'm
quite looking forward to so well say hello to Alistair Booth he was in touch with me the other day
and I haven't managed to reply to him okay president the england golf game he will be thrilled
with that mentioned and uh I will do and um yeah you're playing a big role big Ron maybe playing
his legs are in bad shape he was on holiday yeah I think he's been dancing on too many tables in
grand canary so he's suffering from some knee pain but uh I I'm gonna I think having seen a
video from today and having played with Todd and Laurie and Brownie um the realization the
dawning realize it okay I've only got two or three weeks left but I I I really need to work on my
my game if I want to play well in May June which I do so um I think I think I need to do some practice
I'm glad you've had this a perfect deal this is tremendous I actually need to practice
I just have played with Todd and I just with my how much he loves the game uh you just say he's
just he loves it it practices every day and I just like wow I don't want to do that but uh I need to
so um there we are very quick update on operation badge oh yeah um so uh Ollie Wilson my coach has
has analyzed the video footage that I sent him and we've got a new little move basically my hips
are turning if you were to draw a a straight line down my right side as I as I take away
and turn my hips my hips break the line so I'm basically swaying in the pelvis area
and so now I've got to get that feeling of that actually shifting towards the hole as it turns
to get a bit of separation that's what so I've got my gizmo with me and I'm doing that
religiously in the in the mirror in the mornings and the evenings on this trip well then there's
two players to you to watch this week again who we're gonna want to highlight your fault
Rory suffers from that that's Rory's fault he would shift a little with his hips um
fits he does the opposite fits he's worked hard on doing the opposite so if you watch his hips now
his pelvis you know has that completely exactly what you're working on but he's had to reorient a lot
of things for it to work and there I said yeah his talents might exceed yours on that front but um
look I don't I don't think that's I don't think that's fair no I don't think that's an exaggeration
that's a that's a sensible thing to be working on that gets my seal of approval happy with that
yeah yeah better than no hanging fruit I approve of this message right good I am going to eat
this master's candy bar and uh that that will do us and we will speak again in on on Wednesday
evening yes we might even bump into each other at some point before that I'm seeing you for ages
properly that's a good point actually we should try and do that we're about a mile apart at the
moment we'll run towards each other with our arms outstretched actually we're not run we'll speed
walk towards each other hang on what's the accommodation uh Andrew are you staying on your own yes
I'm in a uh an Airbnb in sort of eight can about 20 miles away surely you can go meet Ian and the
team yeah but I'm socializing shaking hands I mean I could do I might do I might do I might do I
like my own time alone breathing think about pulled lady Jane Gray who was queen for nine days
and then executed by Mary Chudder oh anyway park bless to share right oh yes yeah very good
right that'll do us for now um goodbye friends bye
and that concludes this edition of the chipping forecast wishing you a safe and pleasant night
you
