Farmers' Concerns Over Duchy of Cornwall Land Sales

On March 27th, farmers on the Bradeninch estate in Devon are upset over plans by the Duchy

of Cornwall to sell off parts of the land.

This historic property near Colompton has been held by the eldest son of the monarch for

centuries.

Prince William took over the entire Duchy portfolio worth more than 1 billion pounds when

his father became king.

The Duchy generates nearly 23 million pounds a year in private income for William, his wife,

and their three children.

That money supports their charitable work, official duties, and family life.

Now, the organization is looking to shift its focus.

Local tenant John Palmer called the new shocking and stressful for everyone involved.

He pointed out that while farmers get first chance to buy their own farms, many can't

raise the cash amid tough times for British agriculture.

The Tenant Farmers Association shares the disappointment but welcomes the priority given

to current renters.

Duchy Chief Will Bax explained they're reviewing the whole portfolio to boost social

and environmental impact.

They plan to reinvest heavily in high-need areas even if it means hard choices.

Officials stress their handling sales with care, offering plenty of time and support

to tenants.

Some farmers even see this as a chance to own their land for the first time, marking

a potential shift in long-term tendencies as the process moves forward.
