A fatal head-on collision occurred around 8.27 pm on Highway 20. A Honda Civic reportedly attempting to pass another car while heading west, swerved into oncoming traffic. That car then slammed directly into a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The impact was severe enough that the Honda Civic caught fire. Sadly, the driver of the Civic, a woman, was trapped inside and cannot escape. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, thankfully, only sustained minor injuries. It appears both vehicles were occupied by just the drivers. The highway was shut down in both directions for a significant stretch, causing major traffic disruptions as authorities worked the scene. CHP had initially projected the road would be back open by midnight. They are still investigating the exact circumstances leading up to the crash, including the passing maneuver.
