5:09Great man. It's it's a good week. You know, we got this FCS only podcast. I'm so glad you guys do this because Yes, yes, it's such an undervalued market. I love the content you guys put on and I'm just glad to be here, man We're glad to have you, man Because look, I don't know if you were there in the 90s, but I was a kid Asked my dad to stop at the gas station to try to get the Phil steel magazine because back in the day when that when that first dropped It was a black and white newspaper, right? It was like a magazine, but it was black and white pages Yeah, those first couple editions of black and white Do 1995 was the first edition and they weren't they weren't everywhere like no I specifically remember we would go to Place called deep creek lake Maryland right? I've been there. Yeah I messed up stories from that place on the board my ankle there The highway

6:10Right on 68 baby. Let's go. I love it. So But I look the Phil steel early on like 95 96ish Week like where I was at in the DC area. I couldn't find it anywhere You were stuck with like street and smiths But when we we would take a week and trip every summer up to deep creek lake Maryland And at a place like it was like a it was like a convenience store and a gas station and a supermarket all in one Right, it was called arrowhead like the chief stadium, right? And they would keep the Phil steel magazine and that was the first time I ever saw it I think it was 95 96 because we would buy anything me and my brothers would buy anything So it's awesome just to be somewhat uh now affiliated like we know that guy works for Phil steel magazine. That's that's fantastic Um, so yeah, man. We're glad to have you on the show man and uh, we think we love the FCS We think it's I mean I was at the nanny last year That came You could argue that came as as good as any playoff game in the FBS. Yeah, you know, yeah, absolutely

7:12I mean there was some that was an awesome game. Yeah, 100% 100% um, which I have to tell you called me I told Phil that I'm doing this podcast with you and he was very calm. Let her you He had things to say about you. So I know you had him on in the summer So he really enjoys when he jumps on the show with you in the summer. He's he likes you Well, uh, I mean, uh, that's awesome. I mean, that's like I said. It's like I'm not gonna cry But uh, but uh, no, that is fantastic because I mean Phil's a legend and uh, we uh And look, it was great because we got to we got him to be able to voice his opinion on the There were some hacks doing their magazine. Yeah, it's not on Amazon. Yeah, I was one of the ones that found one of those Uh, I was the first one to alert him to him Did we did we ever find like I'm so fascinated by like that's probably someone I thought like someone's got to be in like another country making these That's something that's out. Yes, yeah, I mean you talk about like

8:16just crap like there was nothing to AI right? It's probably AI money for nothing because there was no work involved That was clearly AI generated it was It was something we never thought in a million years someone would do that so It was Phil's response and folks go listen to Phil's Steel Sports Family podcast His response was great because he was ticked off and he had every right to be ticked off as I'm sure you were Because someone just it's It's everywhere nowadays people just trying to bite each other stuff. Yeah, you know whether it's uh Whether it's AI or whatever. It's uh Sad say the things but glad at least you guys could put the kabosh on that and get that off of Amazon right you guys got that off Amazon right? Yeah, yeah, and he was really upset when the first customer called in and had bought one And said I got your Your small magazine or something or You know, we're like what are you talking about? Oh, no, I only want like that's it. Yeah Phil is great on the show because he was like wait, I don't do anything small. That's what he said all on the show

10:21Goes into Charlotte after getting blown out by wafered and uh, somehow pulls it in I thought that Tim Albin higher was gonna work That line was wild wild movement now that game, man I think we talked about it was like Ten and a half it opened and then all of a sudden by game day was 20 to half Yeah, yeah, I mean what the heck was that but The citadel is a strange team because like they don't have a lot of wins over the past five years But like historically they beat these fbs teams. I remember them beaten Jeff Collins and Georgia tech and then obviously Uh, they took them like Houston took down South Carolina and South Carolina one year Um, but we hit we saw Mac. I know you were on Tarleton at bowling green They were once favored. I know at that by the time that the game kicked I think bg was favored but Uh, and then we had the Idaho state one Uh How shocked were you about it? You know you you so you had Tarleton But the other two you're pretty I imagine you might have been a little shocked that right shocked it shocked at the

11:23Utah state Idaho state and that was a I went back through more box scores yesterday and then today again for the fcs teams um Citadel gave up 600 yards of offense and still won the game against Charlotte. That's you that's impressive as hell um, but the I mean the Idaho state and Utah state I mean the turnovers by Utah state I mean what four interceptions by that quarterback and and now yeah, and so Idaho state cash is in uh Tarleton was just a better team. I mean they like Jimmy's and Joe's I I thought just watching it They they looked apart back to back years they they go to West Point last year beat them on the money line To open up the year and now they go to bowling green and beat them on the money line So it's like it's only a matter of when they come to the fbs. It's not if it's when Well someone said in the chat and I didn't fact check this but last week someone said in the chat They spend almost double What bowling green does on football? I believe it or maybe it was that maybe it was there maybe it was their athletic department

12:25I've heard they spent a lot of money. They were well funded. They've been saying they want to move up for you Yeah, it's that Texas oil money conference USA. What are you doing uh Chris? Where how shocked for you at at the uh the Idaho state game or are they guys the Citadel Charlotte? Uh the Citadel Charlotte game. I think I was a little surprised little more surprised at Just seeing the line movements and I did think that it was gonna be a tough game for Charlotte, but Uh, they do see the option every day You know, they saw the option a couple times last year They didn't do terrible against it. So I figured they'd be well prepared for it I also thought that you get extra time to prepare for it because it's your first game So and they were clearly not prepared for it I don't think they see the option again until the last game of the season. I think they play maybe So uh, I was I was actually more surprised by

13:25Charlotte then I was Utah state I I thought Idaho state is a dangerous team. They've got office and weapons I thought they could score the the way the game played you know that the turnover is definitely had a big part in the uh result, but I was a little more surprised at Charlotte Getting upset that I was Utah state just because I think that uh Idaho state 13 Yeah, and Mac notoriously last season Idaho state played UNLV and they were 35 and a half point dog of memory. Is there's been correct? Mac is that accurate? You remember that? Yeah, yeah He hit on the first half money line at 16 to one we were out in Vegas for that Hawkins. Oh, yeah, we love Cody Hawkins and day at Hawkins. Don't forget fathers on the staff um Yeah, uh any other takeaways I went to a game on Sunday that had got a lightning delay on Saturday or you know Lightning had hit a light I went to Campbell in western Carolina

14:26And let me tell you I was you know I we hawks a big fan of ours. Shout out to we hawk if he's listening to this live He's always connected to western carolines invited us up there a bunch. I actually thought this could be their year to get the uh Soakun After watching that game now I get it Campbell's not in the soakun, but I'm out on western Carolina Campbell actually think might be a player with the six killer kid Candid six killer the quarterback of Campbell he was pretty nasty a couple turnovers, but he's pretty nasty quarterback there But uh yeah, that was one takeaway. I don't know if there's any other like fcs on fcs take was I never got to jump into the game We got 35 games to preview, but um That that one kind of was alarming to me because I thought uh You know western could be a team and then there was the Tennessee Tech Chat new game probably the biggest game They've been talking trash back and forth to these Wilder called him Throw your guy into the bus under the bus guy or yeah, yeah

15:30Shout out to that rivalry heating up love to see that You did not have complimentary things to say about jerry right? Chattenuga Tennessee tech I will be watching that game for sure next year Um anything else that was really noteworthy to any of you guys. I mean look there's a ton of games fluid games Obviously uh, I was you know another one. I'll say Chris Portland state. I thought I know they got beat down by sandiger state, but I came away still kind of impressed With with their team. Yeah, I actually have some thoughts on Portland state this week um But yeah, their offense is playing well Defensively they have some problems, but yeah, they look okay offensively They had what three hundred sixty three hundred seventy yards of offense against sandiger state And I mean sandiger state was an elite defense last year. I know they lost some Quite bit, but I mean they bring back their DC and so I mean for them to almost rack up four hundred yards of offense I think the Viking fans are happy with that. Well, and remember like Chris Fisk came in from central Washington

16:34And I expected this to be like a big learning curve here Because you know, they were just so bad the previous years. I mean look I get it. They're still oh and two But they've passed like kind of the eye test in both games Something that food for thought food for thought Uh, yeah Two two things I'll throw out there that uh, I I was interested in last week. I thought Albany played a really good game against Buffalo Uh, when that game dude dude I had it in a parlay with UMass money line and Albany money line. I want to hit ten grand They got to the one yard line. They scored. They brought it back Yeah, what's with that the after the play Fall start. Yeah, what is that? I was I was so confused by that um And and the other one was I don't know if you guys followed the William and Mary game But that was a weird one Yeah, I took Delaware State. I thought the I ate it on that William and Mary is like there have been a wild team this year They might be the wildest team thus far. Yeah, they were held under 200 yards in that game

17:39But Delaware State turned the ball over six times They end up winning by seven despite being outgamed by over 200 yards. I think it was So uh real weird two really weird games for William and Mary so far Really weird results. They shouldn't have won the first game. They shouldn't have won last week Um, so yeah, that was another thing of stuck out to me. Hey team is I think Albany might be really important I was about to say that's two weeks in a row. They've impressed me. Yeah, it's a proud program Yeah, what were you gonna say Mac team of the week again West Florida going to Arkansas win by four touchdowns like after who had I we uh Chris me and Mac loaded up on uh central Arkansas because we thought oh, shit We thought they stormed the field. They're brand new to the FPS or fcs They got that huge win. They probably been partying all week. They're going to Conway Arkansas and Whoo Man these teams that have moved up and a brand new teams grand as Chicago states aren't very good

18:40But UT RGB last year steps in first year ever in existence and they play well West Georgia moved up and got pretty good pretty quickly um Yeah, even Chicago state last week was only down 21 to seven a half 45 and a half the UT Martin Give up three late touchdowns, but I was surprised that that score too given that they lost to a bad division two team the week before pretty bad Yeah 100% man 100% All right, um, let's jump into these games, uh, but before we do that Uh, I do want to let the good folks know that the college football experience the FCS college football experience is brought to you by us We are part of the sports gambling podcast network SGPN gives back um and folks. We were on we we laid it with temple, but Elon also has looked the part so far at at two and oh the phoenix are Granite that maybe the competition hasn't been super elite because We know david sins kind of a jokes and scottie able left and then glenville state sorry, Mack, but uh richrods Richrods first school Not exactly a powerhouse when it comes to taking on Elon Rhode Island lakes seven and a half points the over under at 47 and a half I Look, I know it's not a neutral site

24:52But I still wonder how many Rhode Island fans if you're not on campus Are gonna actually show up to this thing. I know they're a decent team I think I think it's worth taking the shot on Elon plus the seven and a half Um just thinking that it's gonna be a close game Brady Stober their quarterback there. He's been pretty decent so far. I guess I mean There could be a world where Elon's just not any good. They just played a bunch of dead weight But I'm gonna take the seven and a half uh, maybe they're baiting me. What do you think, Mack? I'm gonna bet Rhode Island. I think it's hard to really buy into Elon yet They haven't played anybody. I think Rhode Island. They already went on the road and won by three scores And then they played temple who we think's gonna win eight maybe nine games in the American so Uh, give me Rhode Island. I'll bet Rhode Island here. Let's seven and a half. I think they're better than you want Well, they aren't a desperate spot. I mean after you know, I mean because I even I don't think they look Great week one. Well, we were out in Vegas Remember that yeah, they blew up late they blew up the late

So yeah, I I think coming back home somewhat I think they they open it up here It's a good program Uh, it's fairer playing this week because Last time he might be playing Yeah, as far as I could tell right now That is on that but though I think the line would be bigger or smaller if he was not right yeah like Wouldn't it be like a one and a half or two and a half seven and a half? I mean Well, Chris, how did you expect Elon to be this year because I feel like they're always decent they had signate you a few years I feel like they're always a decent football school, right? Yeah decent I thought losing lamb and Clark last year this year which you know, he looked like he was gonna be you know the next big quarterback for them But you know he goes to ls u to be a perennial backup I don't know what the thinking was there other than maybe you know down the road You kind of kind of might be popham buttering but popham buttering himself. 26:55Like cash Yeah, I think Elon is a decent team getting seven and a half here given the Situation with the home with the home field um I would lean towards taking Elon that they did lose by 14 at home to road island last year and that was a pretty uh Strong loss they were outgain by two hundred and twelve yards out first down by thirteen I don't like Offense as much this year with outland and Clark although he only had twelve touchdowns the eight interceptions last year Wasn't like he played phenomenal, but he did give him a dual threat presence I don't know if they've settled our quarterback right now because they played three quarterbacks last week I don't really know what the situation is So I'd lean towards Probably taking the points, but not not a strong opinion Yeah, Mac does that change do you think because I just assumed that fair would play because of the line I would I was thinking like if he doesn't play This would be like one and a half two and a half something like that three and a half maybe yeah

27:58I don't think that They would be lying north of the touchdown with the backup. So I think the line is telling you he's flying Uh, so you're so you're still comfortable locking that up. Yeah I'm gonna I'm gonna bet road island first home game Lock it up the Rams he's saying he's saying Um All right, let's go to the second game on the slate here. We were just talking about these great Danes Albany heading to Take on my love fucking long island shocks baby Yeah, take it on the shocks Albany lag six This is an old westberry New York remember these lines by the way if you're new to FCS betting These lines can really jump All right, they could really jump by Saturday morning, but I feel like we're getting these lines way earlier than ever before Mac Normally I have my guy at the win They write or or my guy at circa telling me this information

29:01This is out there right now you can play these things so shout out to that um But uh Look, I this is it's crazy that this isn't more of a rivalry game and only goes back to 2024 there is regionality involved I it's hard to fade my shocks as you as you well know uh, but uh I've been really impressed with Albany man and we were just talking about this I think we got a lock up Albany man to go into the go into the shocks, but uh Shaktank Mac, what are you doing here? I mean, so L.I. used to play the tough ass schedule though I mean they went to North Dakota and Kansas to start in and Albany Yeah, they pushed Buffalo, but I don't know how good Buffalo is Give me give me the sharks at home, but I'm not gonna bet this one. I'll see that five right now Why didn't shock you if they won the game on the money line? These sharks were chippy at home last year They weren't they well they mean Eastern Michigan at the factory last year, but uh Man, I don't know. I'm gonna lock up Albany. I'm gonna trust what I've seen two weeks in Chris

30:02What are you doing here? I'm going with Albany You're laying under a touchdown. They've impressed me two weeks in a row Long Island was down 42 to nothing in that game against North Dakota Kren's North Coast is a really good team But it was a lot of a lot of late points that game was over and what's gonna Chris uh, I had long Island in the points It we're in Vegas Mac had Mac had North Dakota and he was like celebrating we were at a we were at like a five star dinner We're at like a five star dinner and ring game It was long Island comes on way back It's gonna have 42 nothing and they scored 21 like I might have all been in the fourth too. I can't remember What was that line? I came or what it was We're out four touchdowns right? I think it was 27 and a half or maybe 28 Something like that so yeah And what's crazy? Well, what's crazy is North Dakota down the ball at like the eight yard line of long Island So like they were about the score had there been more time on the clock

31:05Um, but yeah, uh, uh, you Chris Would you be uh, saying locking this up with Albany? Is this one you feel like would be on your power place? Uh, no, no, I'm not gonna play it just because I respect long Island home Um, not one of the games I circled for the weekend, but I do think that Albany Uh, is a team that's gonna keep impressing and I like him to cover, but not a game I'm gonna bet There we go. Well, I I'm gonna ride with these great dames. I can't even fit in my shocks. Yeah, what is this? Just the great dames look good I should be mad at them for not scoring though at the one um, but uh, all right next up. Let's jump to marist at Lafayette This is another one that kind of caught my eye guys Uh, Lafayette I know the the record says oh and one And we got very lucky out in Vegas, Matt because we bet Lafayette to be Georgetown Yeah, and guess what

32:05Thank God for a light a fake lightning delay um, that took that game completely off the board because they were getting housed Georgetown was taking it to Lafayette Which has me a little dumbfounded on this so I went back to the well last week. I bet Yukon against Lafayette laid 21 Or 20 and a half whatever it was Jason Campbell's first game at Yukon They beat him 56 to seven. I don't know if that's candle really has Yukon. Look at all right Or Lafayette is just that bad. I tend to think it's Lafayette's just that bad So when I see Marist catching 10 and a half the old red foxes here who who definitely did struggle on Friday night against Franklin pierce Whoever that guy is right and then uh They're they lost the new Haven too. They lost by one to new Haven. They were up some of that game. Yeah, dude I kind of think we should bet Marist am I crazy here like what what is Lafayette done to be a double digit favorite? I I was gonna go the other way. I think Lafayette they just shit the bed against Yukon and FPS team

33:09But I mean the one game we see George Town doesn't have scholarships Yeah Yeah, but it is their first home game Because that game is that George Town right it was at George Town. It was at the end. Yeah I'll go Lafayette but no bet. I think it's baiting you with that hook Chris can I sell you on maybe we should take Marist? Oh man, I'm I hate to say one thing I will admit to is I'm a pioneer leaker And I just have a hard time with these pioneer leake teams I had an awful start to the season. Yeah, I can't imagine betting Marist right now I respect Lafayette's program. I know they've gotten off to a rough start, but they've been A solid program in the past you know that they were eight and four last year that At 11 starters back this year John Trox has been around the block um Rough start to their season, but I mean that George Town game it was early. It didn't look good for him

34:10I know that was what canceled in the second corner right and stopped Yeah, yeah, they were taking it. Did you guys catch that? Yep and hey, who ended their season last year Stephen F Yeah, well give me Abelie in home dog play the money line

1:44:24Abelie and beat them at Abelie and last year then lost but by a touchdown in in the playoffs at Stephen F Yeah, this is their home opener. They looked good against tech. Yeah, give me Abelie and lock it up They win the game out right? Yeah, this is this is a this is a fun match up to watch me they hate each other This is a great rivalry Chris I'm curious what you got what you got going on here because I think this is one of the better games we got this weekend I agree I think This is gonna be a little bit of a higher scoring game that we've seen from Abelie and Christian lately 21 to 14 in the opener Kind of a grinding game They didn't get off to a very good start almost came back and tied the game late Uh last week against Texas tech. I don't know how much the holding Texas tech it's a 33 points is their defense or How much of it is just Texas tech's working through some quarterback issues without sores being um, you know will ham and coming off the injury

1:45:25So 49 and a half reasonable total to me I'm gonna lean towards the over um, I like it too. Yeah, I'm gonna bet the over here Yeah, 49 and a half I mean, I think you're on to something here. I think that is let me When they played was 41 34 in the playoffs here back on December 6th fun game 75 points uh, so uh, yeah, I think you're on something I think the over is the players well Final game on the slate That Portland State Viking team I'm talking about taking on the fighting suit in order to go to Portland State catch a 27 and a half in Hillsboro I I mean, I think get it North Dakota is good, but 27 and a half Portland State Almost knocked off UC Davis again San Diego State. I get it. They lost by 33 But that thing was Like they were within that number

1:46:27Majority of the game, you know what I mean um I'll take Portland State in the points here. I think North Dakota is gonna win by like three touchdowns. Give me give me the Vikings Row skull whatever. Yeah late late night action. Count me in. Let's go Vikings home dog. They lose by they lose by 14 to 20 Yeah, late night. I think there's some excitement around the program. I know their crowds aren't historically good But I'm just saying he's they they're oh and two but they've looked good being oh and they look the part Yeah, this would not surprise you if this was like a one possession game in the fourth quarter This would be if you're looking for your crazy first half money line play. Yeah, it might be right here if that if you can find that Chris Thoughts on this one This is a game that I circled before we started talking to that I'm gonna go with the over another overplay for me Portland State's offense has Look good, you know, they can put some points on the board North Dakota's defense which was really good last year has given up some points so far

1:47:32You know a lot of those late points against Long Island, but I still gave up 21 in that game Portland State put up over 20 last or put up what 20 last week in San Diego State got proud of that They gave up 53 Portland State's defense last year. I don't think it's gonna be a whole lot better gave up 257 rushing yards of game Yeah, six point five yards of Kerry So you give me Kaminsky who I think is a very good Doltar yeah Against this defense. I think they're gonna move the ball well But Portland State shown me that they can move the ball well against a decent defense And 59 and a half I Computer had this game at 68 had Portland State covering 4226 North Dakota I agree with it. I think the over is the play or I could see taking the dog So either one of them I say what I might even throw a little parlay On this game and take the over and the dog I like it. I like it. I like it. I like it. Let's go
