Welcome to the Fiori and Greed Business News afternoon report for Friday 12th of September 2026, I'm Sean A. Olma. Every afternoon we've got the five stories that happen today that you need to know about story number one is that the US will have to lift interest rates and oil pushing beyond $107 a barrel. We get a near 1% sell off on the ASX today. By the close the market was at 8,741 points down 3% for the week. Now oil prices are at their highest in nearly four months. That's on the back of the fact that Iran and the US and the US are digging in for a protracted conflict, little prospect for a return to normal Middle East energy flows. For the time being that raises the chance of a rate hike in the US and Australia markets are already pricing in in the 80% chance of a fourth rate hike this year. Today the big banks though, they actually with the star performers, they all row sharply,

but the commodity players didn't do so well. BHP and Rio de Tinta both fell 4% while 4% was down 2%. Story number two, AGO Director General Mike Burgers speaking today to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in New York said the intelligence agency has averted 16 potential terror cases since the Bondi attack in December last year. He said Iran far left and far right ideologies anti-Semitism and individuals inspired by mixed and seemingly incompatible beliefs are among the threats facing the agency today. Story number three, Bathlete Lenders have begun placing sites seized from the failed Sydney property development giant on the market with 360 capital, the first financier to engage agents in the hope of limiting potential losses. The ASX listed investment in real estate managers at mortgage rate said it had decided to sell the properties that secured the $31.7 million it had lent to Bathler, which collapsed

into administration late last month, earning at least $3.4 billion, the vast majority of that to private credit firms. Now according to the Fintfin Review, Bathler's administrators Tenio earlier in the week said they had locked in short term funding to stave off the immediate threat of liquidation, but have already stood down to 113 employees. Many of the 40 odd lenders to the developer have now decided to go at a loan moving to take control of assets. Story number four, ratings agency S&P Global. Today downgraded the Queensland government's credit rating to double A from double A plus citing the state's weak budgetary performance, the federal government's property tax changes and concerns over its infrastructure program, including for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. As S&P said, persistent inflation rising interest rates higher wages and softening property market sentiment will likely weigh on Queensland's budgetary outcomes and fiscal recovery over the next two to three years. State Treasurer David Jnetsky labeled the downgrade as an inevitability, laying bain for

demotion at the feet of the former State Labor government and Treasurer Jim Charmer's Queensland's rating now aligns it with Tasmania and the ACT, both of which run big deficits. And finally, story number five, after all the hype, the first professional NFL game in Australia this morning was won by the San Francisco 49ers over the LA Rams 27, 7 in front of 100,000 and 21 people. That's three people less than the official crowds at the 2023 and 2022 AFL grand finals. So they had 100,000 and 24 people this morning's game 100,000 and 21 people. The NFL took over the Melbourne cricket club's long room to host 250 of its own and quantices VIPs. There were federal and state politicians, business leaders, sportsmen and women, fan participation, the obligatory sweet Caroline's sing along and high fashion plus a whole lot of result as well. By the time you listen to this, the teams are probably at the airport, perhaps they're even on the way home.

Thanks for coming. That's it for the afternoon report for Friday 11 September, 2026. Make sure you're following the podcast and head along to fearandgreek.com today to sign up for our free daily newsletter. I'm Sean Elmer, enjoy your week.
