Here's a thought. You're probably fighting some kind of battle for your children today. Maybe it's bullies, maybe it's bad grades. Maybe it's encouraging them to stand for something they believe in. Well, there's another battle I encourage you not to overlook. The fight for their heart. Teachers, coaches, and your own household rules demand good performance from your child. That's a good thing. Meeting the demands of life head on is what successful adulthood is all about. But your children also need to know that you love them, no matter what. A few years ago, one of my boys made a bad mistake and he broke trust with his mom and me. And he felt terrible about it. In fact, he wrote us a beautiful letter apologizing for breaking that trust. But my heart sank when I got to the bottom. By his signature, he'd written not good enough. Trent. I put the letter down and took my son for a drive. We talked through everything that had happened. And I said, never feel like you're not good enough. God loves you. Your mom loves you.
And I love you, no matter what. Kids need to be challenged to do better, of course. And to achieve more than they believe they're capable of. But they also need a soft place to fall when life gets tough. Unconditional love won't spoil your child or make them weak. It'll infuse them with the confidence and the courage they need to face the world. So fight for your child's heart. Let them know their love, no matter what.
