March 9th. Finding rest. Are you feeling rested? If you're like most people,
probably not. The to-do lists seem to grow longer each day, and we just don't have
enough time to get everything done. We can feel a bit like the proverbial hamster
in the wheel, running, working as hard as we can, with no end in sight. But
besides these typical stressors, we often faced with the additional strains of
broken relationships, mistreatment, and loss. Through all of these exhausting
scenarios, how do we find rest? To help answer this question, we have Julianne to
share with us her true story. On today's unshackled, daily devotional.
My father left when I was a child and never returned. My grandparents sent me to
Christian schools even though we were Hindu. I rose at four in the morning to
worship my idols. I suffered from epilepsy and prayed the Hindu gods would
heal me. At sixteen I became a devotee of India's most powerful guru. I followed
him for nine years, but he was a phony. Mother arranged my marriage to a man I did
not know. He married me for our money and beat me many times, even when I was
pregnant. When our family became impoverished by the war in Sri Lanka, my husband
left me and our three children. My family blamed me for the divorce and
abandoned me. I had no money and could not work. My Hindu gods had failed me.
Then a Christian neighbor invited me to church. He told me Jesus would help me.
I went to church and the pastor described how Jesus said,
Come on to me, all ye that labor and our heavy laden and I will give you rest.
I burst into tears and gave myself to Christ. Happiness flooded my soul.
God helped me get a job as a teacher and today I work in another country to support
my children. I have not had a seizure since I came to Christ in 1990.
He gave me the father's love I never had. Jesus Christ has set me free of my fears about the future.
Have you turned to Jesus for rest? The Apostle Paul writes in Romans chapter 8 verse 34,
It is Christ that died, yay, rather that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God.
Who also makeeth intercession for us.
Friend, are you going through a lot right now?
If you feel worn down by the circumstances of life, please know that our Savior Jesus Christ
is interceding for you before our Heavenly Father. In Jesus we can have rest for our souls because
He has accomplished our salvation. No more work is needed for us to have a relationship with God.
It is done and with this relationship God has been brought near and he is able to
display mercy and compassion for all that is weighing on your heart.
Will you find rest in this truth today?
