First Anti-Tailgating Law Conviction: Man Banned from Football

On May 1st, a 27-year-old guy from Oldham, named Benjamin Bailey, just became the first

person charged under the new anti-tailgating law after.

Sneaking into the Carabao Cup final at Wimbly, he got caught slipping in behind ticket holders

during the Manchester City vs Arsenal match on March 22nd, admitted the offense in court,

and now faces a 3-year football ban plus a 230-pound fine.

This law kicked in after the chaos at the Euro 2020, final 5 years back, making tailgating

walking super close to legit fans to sneak.

Through turnstiles, a straight-up crime across England and Wales, back in July 2021, thousands

of ticketless fans stormed Wimbly for England vs Italy with about 2,000 actually getting inside.

A review found over 20 near-death incidents from the Mayhem.

The unauthorized entry to Football Matches Act covers more than just tailgating, advanced

fake tickets, forged passes, or pretending to be stadium staff.

Convictions can mean up to 5 years ban from games and a 1,000-pound fine max.

Police are hyped about this precedent, saying it'll keep stadium safe from moving forward,

especially with big matches on the horizon.
