Flames Fall Short in Long Island

For the Calgary Flames, it's March 15th.

Here's what's happening.

The Calgary Flames dropped a 3-2 decision to the New York Islanders on Saturday night

at UBS Arena on Long Island.

They trailed 3-0 after the first period, but mounted a late rally in the third that almost

pulled off the comeback.

The Islanders jumped ahead early with goals from Casey Susika's and two from Simon Homstrom,

including a key shorthand Italian off of Flames Powerplay, turnover.

Devin Cooley started in net for Calgary, but Dustin Wolf came in for the second period.

Flames fans saw some fight in the third, as Mikel Backland deflected home a shot from

Ali Maata and Blake Coleman jammed one in to make it close.

Both Backland and Coleman earned praise for sparking the pushback.

The Flames outshot the Islanders 17-9 in that final frame, but Slobby Play in the first

two periods proved too much to overcome on the bay.

Zayn Perrek and Zach Wyclow returned to the lineup, with Wyclow wearing the alternate

captain's A. Up next, the Flames wrapped their road trip Monday night in Detroit on

Prime Monday Night Hockey.
