It's March 15th. Here's your Calgary Flames news in two minutes. The Calgary Flames are building a bright future with their recent draft picks and two prospects just landed spots on CraigButton's annual top 50. NHO rankings from TSN, Cole Reshanie sits at number 24 while Ethan Wittenbach comes in at 39. Reshanie hails from Maclin, Saskatchewan, and the Flames grabbed him 18th overall in the 2025 draft. That pick came from New Jersey in the Jacob Marctrum trade. After shining in the Western hockey league with Victoria, he jumped to the University of North Dakota this season. There, Reshanie has racked up 33 points in 32 games as a rookie. He leads all national collegiate hockey conference freshmen in scoring in ranks 5th nationwide among first year players. He earned a spot on the NCHC All-Rookie team and helped Canada snag bronze at the world juniors. Meanwhile, Wittenbach grew up in Rosalind, New York, among Ireland.

Selected 144th overall in the 5th round of 2025, he dominated in the United States' hockey league with Sioux Falls. Before knee surgery led to a smart move to Quinnipiac in college, Wittenbach now tops the NCAA and points for both freshmen and all players combined. He's picked up ECAC All-Rookie and first all-star honors, positioning him as a real threat for the Hobie Baker Award. Possibly, he's the lowest drafted player on button's entire list.
