Flames Win, Beecher Scores Twice

The Calgary Flames grab a solid 5-4 win over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night in New Jersey. They jumped out to an early lead, never fell behind, and fended off a late rally to improve their record, to 26 wins, 32 losses, and 7 ties. Coming off a couple uneven games against the capitals and rangers, the Flames played with more structure this time. They capitalized on Devils' mistakes for several goals, including a shorthanded tally, while Dustin Wolf held strong in net. John Beecher stood out with two goals in his young Flames career, now up to three total. Michael Backland added a big one early in the third period, notching his 229th goal as a flame, to tie 5th all time, plus his 6th 100th point with the team. The Flames won by playing smart defensively and being opportunistic on offense, turning New Jersey turnovers into points on the board.
