It is Thursday, September 10th, the State of Florida. Add it again tonight. They are scheduled to execute the 15th inmate of the year. He is a convicted killer. However, many people believe he's actually a serial killer.

3:01And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ Robes. This is one of the more fascinating death row cases we have covered. He's convicted for one crime. Robes, I think he might have as many as 12 to 15 bodies on his resume, if you will. Yeah, I think they have at least 13, but maybe more. And when you start to read about the details of these murders, they're all in the exact same fashion form and fashion. They have the hallmarks of one killer, and yes, a serial killer. This is a frightening case. And I was just thinking, look, he's going to be put to death for one murder. But I was just thinking about all the other victims, all the other family members of those victims. That's a tough pill to swallow to know that with his death, you'll never actually get closure in a way, because you'll never actually, you never have that formal justice served in the sense that he didn't have to admit.

4:03He didn't, he wasn't actually held accountable for maybe a dozen plus more deaths. Yeah, and nobody has been in those dozen plus deaths. And we're talking all men in these deaths and robes. I wasn't familiar with the story, the Fort Myers 8 that we'll get into. This is incredible. Well, let's start with, I guess, Robes first and foremost. I said Florida is added again. Robes are up to 15 today. 19 was their record that they set last year. I can look at the list. I can confirm, but at least one more is on the books coming up pretty soon. So you're going to be up to 16 and Robes, are they going to blow through the, I mean, DeSantis is leaving office this year. I would, if I had to wait your, I would say he's absolutely going to beat last year's record. No question, no question. They've been, they've been executing several months. Some cases this summer, they had three in one day, did they not are two in one day, two in one day in the state of Florida. There were three in one day, but those are multiple states.

5:04But Florida has just been efficient, I would say. And it's one of those cases where yeah, we can't anticipate how many more there will be because he's been signing them as they come up on his desk. Unclear how he's determining which cases to push forward. But this one, this is a 30 year old murder. And so it does appear he has been going, when I say he DeSantis has been going out and clearing out some of these older cases where you have inmates on death row for 30, 40, even 50 years. 50 year in that in me. Yes. Yeah, that was a very recent one. Yes. But this guy we're talking about this time is Daniel Owen Konahan Jr. convicted for a 1996 killing. He was convicted though in 1999. We'll explain why it took a little time to track him down. This is going to happen scheduled for six o'clock tonight at the state prison in Stark, Florida this evening.

6:04Now, Rose, we say this might be a possible serial killer, but he was convicted. The crime in particular was in 1996 and Rose, these are, okay, this is one. This is the crime he was convicted of, but they are saying possibly he did this to a bunch of other folks. But the way the story goes, he lured a man into the woods with the promise of paying him money to pose for nude picks. Yeah, he wanted bondage picks. So the victim was like, all right, you give me $150, $200, I'll let you tie me up and take pictures of me. But here's the deal. Once you're nude and tied to a tree, he could do whatever he wanted. And that's what it appears he did. They found this man, his body the next day. He had been raped, strangled, and his genitals were cut off. Now, those details, Robes are pretty specific. And that's a reason we just shared that detail. The victim here was a 21-year-old man, Richard Allen Montgomery.

7:08Now, Robes, that was in 1996. 1996, however, there's another case that they think helped solve this one that happened two years prior in 1994. And the victim was Stanley Burton, and he described in nearly identical assault. He said he was assaulted. He was strangled. He was tied to a tree because, yes, he too had agreed to pose for nude pictures for a specified amount of money. And he said that this man, Daniel Owen, Conehan Jr., tried to strangle him for 30 minutes, and finally just gave up and left him for dead, but he was managed to escape, tell his story, and when he was on the witness stand, he actually still had marks on his neck from the strangulation. And he identified Conehan, and that is how they eventually caught him.

8:10And so to think, Robes, that was in 1994, and that was a... And police started to piece all these things together, but another one was in 1995. This one was... Robes and was scary as hell. This guy's name was David Payton. He got away as well, but he said a man had picked him up, man believed to be Conehan. Pick them up, they were driving to a location in the woods. Same thing, paying money to take pictures. They had car trouble, got stuck. They had to get out. He was getting help from somebody else who came to push the vehicle. So the victim, David Payton, was in the driver's seat while the two men, Conehan and the stranger, were pushing the vehicle out. He said he looked in the back seat. He saw tarp, rope, all these things scared the hell out of them. As it should have. Took off in the car. Just took off. I'm getting the hell out of here. The car ends up being reported stolen by Conehan. And so when this guy, David Payton saw all the stories happening later, he said,

9:13Oh, shit, I know. That sounds exactly like what, and called it him. Robs. Boom. And so they had, so to think he's going to death row for a crime that was in 96, but as early as 94, 95. So Robs, the area where this victim was found, Richard Allen Montgomery, they in the coming years, in those, in that span of a few years, found at least five other bodies in that area. Yes, it's the hog trail. It's a, it's a hiking area of that part of Florida. And yes, five bodies discovered in the same general area of where burden was assaulted. So yes, he had a place he liked to go to. And it was working for him. Some of them were tied to trees. Some of them had genitals removed. And yes, it all, every single body had the exact same hallmark. I mean, so Robs, they were never able to definitively. They didn't have as good of a case with those other ones. So they went with the case that they had more evidence and they could get a conviction on.

10:16But Robs, that left these other cases unsolved. I mean, you don't have to be that much of a cracked detective to go, yeah, these had to be connected to him. Yes. And what's crazy is he was arrested in 97, convicted in 99, but that, that, the investigation didn't end there. Because there was another discovery. And by the way, all of these bodies, if I recall, I read none of them had clothing on them. So that was also of note that all of these bodies were naked. And obviously varying degrees of, they said some of them were skeletal remains that they found. They found eight more men in the wood. They called them the Fort Myers eight. And some of them were skeletal. They said one of them actually was on the more recent side, but none of them had clothing. All of them were bound. Many of them had genitals removed or mutilated. Yes. So who else in the same area, in the same time span, and he often chose, and this is something we see a lot of times with serial killers chose, transient folks, folks who maybe didn't have people looking for them.

11:21Men, young men who weren't reported missing by their families because they, for whatever reason, left home and were in a period of transition, a state of transition. Some of these never identify, babe. That's something that is just sad. It's so sad. Not how you're supposed to die, man. And just folks don't even know who they are. These folks have been killed in proper roads. You're talking the count here is at least 13 other deaths that have not been solved in the exact same area with the exact same MO. Roads, you have to deduce. You have to, yes. The thinking is, it's kind of the consensus and it's understood. This was a serial killer. It's going to be executed. Absolutely. And thank God. I mean, that's, he, he re, that much havoc in two years, in a two-year time span. I mean, thank God both of those men got away and were able to give enough information to police to lead them to this man because when you have someone who is praying on unknowns, there's no link. There's no connection. It's almost impossible to find that person because there is no familiarity.

12:25There's no personal connection that would lead you to him. You needed to have someone survive to get away to explain to police. This is what happened and then you piece it all together that way. Is that something the one guy looked in the back seat and said, oh, hell no. He just caught a glimpse of the stuff in the back seat and said, I am out of here and took off. That is something. But stay here folks. He, um, caught a hand. We want you to hear his appeal to the Supreme Court. After and I saved it to the end, Rogues based on, I wanted to make sure you heard all that other stuff. And you're not going to believe the case he is making to the Supreme Court for why they should stay his execution. Hey everyone, it's the Jonas Brothers with the Hey Jonas Podcast. I'm like, you can't do that here. That is not what I want talk about her like that. I just want to talk about her like that. 18:34It looks like Florida will be executing its 15th inmate of the year by lethal injection. This is their third execution in three weeks, and we're talking about Daniel Owen, Conehan Jr. This is a man who police believe is responsible for at least 13 deaths. He was convicted with our of just one of those gruesome murders, but he has maintained his innocence from the beginning, and he hasn't backed down. Yeah, robes. Not much of a case to make, but he did, and as they often do, or always even do, make a case to the Supreme Court. Now, in his filing, Robes asking for a stay of execution, he actually used words like innocence. Proof is innocence. He is saying that DNA needs to be tested that would prove him an innocent man, and that somebody else is responsible for the killing of this victim. Yes, so his appeal to the Supreme Court reads as follows.

19:36This court is Mr. Conehan's last opportunity to access Florida's statutory procedures for testing available DNA evidence that could prove Mr. Conehan's long maintained innocence, undermine his death sentence, and or identify an alternative suspect. There were no eyewitnesses linking Mr. Conehan to the crime, and no direct evidence has ever linked Mr. Conehan to the crime. Mr. Conehan has steadfastly maintained his innocence for nearly 40 years, and should be allowed to test material items of evidence that were collected as part of the criminal investigation that led to his wrongful conviction and sentence of death. Kim Kardashian is not putting out statements in support of this guy's innocence. For the most part, yes, you have groups out there that are against the death penalty, they are against every death sentence and understand that, but there is not some drum beat of innocence for this guy. It was remarkable, robes. I guess this is why it is important to get convictions on other murders.

20:42What if something weird did happen here? He's not actually charged with another crime, never convicted with another. What would you do there? I don't know how nervous anybody would be if they were waiting for the Supreme Court. We should say as of this recording here on this Thursday, the Supreme Court hasn't officially responded that they are not going to stay the execution. I guess something could happen, but given their track record, robes were not expecting that. Yes, and we certainly know that Desantis is not going to be intervening in any way, shape or form. It would only be the Supreme Court. We know from past executions, the bar is so high. This case certainly doesn't even seem too calm close to meeting any kind of standard where he would even have a shot at anything or anyone stepping in to stop this execution, by the way. I was looking at these numbers in Florida. 71 executions have been carried out in the US since 2025.

21:45Florida accounts for 33 of them, so that's 46%. But this year's executions, we've had 24 so far. Florida has carried out 14. That's before this evening. That's 58%. If that number is going to go up even more, I'm not great at math, but if we... That is an unbelievable percentage that Florida is not only leading the way, they are well over half of all the executions in this country are taking place in the state of Florida. There are six more scheduled in the country for this month, for the month of September. And one of them, yes, is Florida. But Roves, the one, and we will get into this, folks. The one everybody is paying attention to, we'll be paying attention to is what's happening in Tennessee on September 30th. That's right. We're going to see a woman executed for the first time in 200 years. They say in Tennessee. The first woman in 200 years in that state, and she is trying and has been trying to stay that execution for multiple reasons.

22:49She was a teenager when it happened, but that look for that coming up soon in our feed because this is a story that is going to be making major headlines here in the coming days.
