Good morning! Here's your surf zone forecast for Tuesday, April 7th through Wednesday for the Florida coastline.
Starting with the Atlantic side, a High Rip Current Risk remains in effect from this evening through Thursday evening across Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties, so swimmers and surfers need to stay alert.
Down in Palm Beach today, expect mostly cloudy skies with showers and thunderstorms likely throughout the day. Surf heights will be modest at one to two feet with a very high UV index, so grab that sunscreen. Water temperatures are pleasant in the upper seventies. Winds will start light from the southeast around five miles per hour before turning northeast this afternoon. The real action kicks in tomorrow when surf heights jump to three to five feet as northeast winds pick up to ten to fifteen miles per hour. Thunderstorm potential drops to moderate Wednesday, but rip currents remain high, so exercise caution.
Moving south to the Fort Lauderdale and Miami beaches, today's forecast shows mostly cloudy conditions with likely thunderstorms and a very high UV index. Surf will be minimal at one foot or less with moderate rip current risk. Water stays in the upper seventies with southeast winds around five miles per hour. Tomorrow things improve slightly with partly sunny skies and one to two foot waves. Northeast winds around ten miles per hour will provide some nice texture for the water. Rip current risk increases to high Wednesday, so be aware if you're planning to get in the water.
Out on the Gulf Coast near Naples and Marco Island, conditions are much calmer. Low rip current risk today and tomorrow as surf remains under one foot. Partly sunny skies with showers and a chance of thunderstorms keep things interesting. Northeast winds shift to northwest this afternoon before returning northeast Wednesday. The moderate thunderstorm potential means you'll want to keep an eye on the sky, but overall it's a quieter forecast for the Gulf side.
All areas are dealing with a very high UV index, so sun protection is essential. Get out there safely and enjoy the water!
