You're listening to Bill Handel, on demand from KFI AM640.
I'm in the mood for food.
KFI AM640, Bill Handel here, it is a Friday morning, March 6th.
Some of the big stories we're looking at, the Justice Department has published additional
Epstein files, and of course, everybody's going crazy looking at those.
You know, is out as Homeland Security Secretary, no surprise there.
She was due to be fired by the President.
And jobs report came back, not so good, and oil is, well, gasoline is up 30 cents in
the last week.
It's not good news, no surprise, though, because the war in around continues.
It's expanding Israel and United States keep pummeling, Iran, Iran attacking its neighbors
in the Gulf.
And no one understands why at this point.
And so now the definition of Iran winning is the regime stays there.
That's their win.
Okay.
It is time for foodie Friday with Neil and Moa tomorrow, two to five PM, the fork report
with Neil.
Neil, let's start right now.
Call a flower pizza.
You know, I've never, I've always wondered about cauliflower pizza crust.
It's like a day without sunshine, pizza without the regular crust.
It's like a day without me telling you you're going to die by four o'clock this afternoon.
It's just a miserable day.
You are a miserable bastard.
That is for sure.
So the reason why I loved this story, this isn't food and wine, is that if you remember
years ago, with all of the rise of the gluten free and all these things, we had cauliflower
pizzas in the frozen section everywhere and they were cauliflower crust pizzas.
And it's not horrible.
Actually, cauliflower is tasty and you can, you know, cook it in different ways.
Wonderful.
But that is dumping now.
That really was this trend that came and now it's going.
And with a couple of weeks back, you and I talked about great frozen pizzas.
Well, they're finding that frozen pizzas are growing again.
The high price of ordering out even pizzas nowadays or going and sitting down to have one.
People are finding it's much easier in the quality of frozen pizzas has gotten to the
place where it's easier.
You can pick what kind of, you know, crust style you want.
Yeah, I love frozen pizza and you're right.
A frozen pizza, a decent frozen pizza is $67.
It's not that expensive even more and they've gotten way way better.
Well you, the one that suggested the two pizzas at Walmart and at Target, which are just
spectacular.
Yeah.
Yeah, you've got the pizzas or the quality of the pizza crust and the ingredients are
so good now.
Plus you can get Roman style, Neapolitan style, you can get Detroit style crusts now.
So you've got the cauliflower on the decline as far as those cauliflower crusts that kind
of comfort food is coming back in a different way.
And the freezer is being one of the places where it's going to be living.
So pepperoni is still in the front.
Cheese is second, just a plain cheese, but pepperoni continues to lead.
And then some of the deluxe ones have different, you know, flavoring and coffee.
Yeah, well, there's still plenty of cauliflower crust pizzas.
I go to trade your Joe's.
I think they have one Costco certainly has one.
Sure, there's so many.
The Detroit, Detroit pizzas, those crusts are a little oily, aren't they?
Well, they're a pan pizza, but like a wait, wait, wait a second, were you doing a joke
of, yeah, you look oily, Detroit, car oil, oil, yeah, thank you.
Oh, by the way, the two pizzas that you mentioned that are well worth going to and are the
two pizzas that come from Target and Walmart and they are better for one piece of Walmart
and they do a very nice job.
The five cheese pizza is a white pizza.
It's good.
It's a little cheesy for me, but the pepperoni and bacon pizza is very, very nice.
And then I think it's this is goods or something, no, it's better goods.
Better goods.
Yeah.
That's the other one.
No, that's the one.
And the other one there's Katie, Katie's Katie, yeah, also very, very good pizza and those
are in Target.
That is a really lovely, smoky, thinner crust, but great shoe to it like you would get
out of a pizza oven fire.
Yeah.
Very, very strong.
All right.
El Coyote Mexican restaurant.
El Coyote has been around well.
It's turning 95 years old, very famous yesterday.
It's in every single movie that is referencing Los Angeles.
And this is where Governor Jerry Brown used actually.
No, I think that's the Adobe down the street.
I thought it was Kyle Coyote.
We have to look that up where he he was dating Linda Ronson while he was governor.
I think that was the Adobe down the street, but they similarly, they have been around
for a long time.
El Coyote Mexican restaurant in the Fairfax district, it opened in 1931.
They just celebrated 95 years yesterday.
They were offering tacos and enchiladas with rice and beans for 95 cents.
Margie Christofferson is the owner, her aunt and uncle were the original owners and her
parents bought it.
And so three generations, she is an, she's a doll.
She's in her 80s.
She's been on the show multiple times.
Great sense of humor.
Beautiful lady.
Great heart.
And she's there at the willingly.
Her kids are like, you know, why don't you go enjoy yourself?
And she's like, no, she wants to see the people.
If you haven't been to El Coyote in some time or never been, get there.
It is beautiful, lively, fun.
They've got great margaritas.
They've got traditional traditional fair, traditional decor, traditional decor, which is
fun to see.
And the, the barriachi bands come around.
And what I do is I give, I always tip barriachi bands $20 to not play anywhere near my table.
Why do I want new music trumpets next to my ear when I'm sitting there and it's beautiful?
It's festive and it's fun.
Oh, yeah, that's not me.
Beautiful bastard.
Yeah, that's not me.
None of that works for me.
We'll come back.
We're coming back.
That show is not that grand day, bro.
Well, they're, oh, very strong.
All right.
We're going to come back.
Talk a little bit about Jimmy John sandwiches, which I have no idea what Jimmy John's
is.
And then it's a sandwich place.
So good.
So clearly, Jimmy John sandwich, I would guess would be a sandwich place.
I know it's a shocker, but that's my guess.
Your intellect is unrivaled, Mr. Handel.
Yeah.
Thank you very much.
And you can tell me, we're going to say, where are they?
Because that's, I've never been to one.
I didn't hear.
I've never heard of one.
Everywhere.
Everywhere.
Thank you.
That's Kono.
You don't talk on this show.
All right.
Let's go back to a foodie Friday, Bill Handel here on a KFI Friday, March 6th.
And let's get right into Jimmy John sandwiches.
As I said before, the break, no idea who or what Jimmy John's is or was or are.
I miss it out.
Pardon?
You're missing out.
If you like a sando.
You like a good sandwich.
Yeah, I do.
I love sandwiches.
Where is one near the station, for example?
Is there one?
I don't know where there is one.
Exactly.
Exactly.
How about Orange County?
Do you know where they are in Orange County?
I don't know where every location of Jimmy John's is.
I know that there's one off of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.
Okay.
There's one in Beverly Hills.
Okay.
I know who to ask.
Kono.
Who says they're everywhere.
And where is everywhere, Kono?
Yeah, there's one in North Hollywood.
There's one in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills.
You got one over in Pasadena.
You got to.
By the way, I just don't let you know this is not.
This is spontaneous.
He's certainly not reading that list.
Hawthorne.
All right, not stopping all of us.
So we can ask Surrey where they are.
Okay.
That's Siri, but that's close.
No, Surrey.
It's they actually legally changed it because Tom Cruise wanted to be named after his
daughter.
Fair enough.
It's a bad joke that goes several levels of bad people's jokes.
They are going Greek, which means?
Well, Arby's had this year, this Greek year, that was very, very popular.
And now you've got Jimmy John's doing their own version of this.
So in addition to their sub sandwiches, their massive lineup of, you know, classic, they
do some innovative style sandwiches as well, but now they're going to add this Euro to
it.
And it looks delicious.
Yeiro.
Yes.
Or gyro.
Yes.
Okay.
There's a Euro.
Jero.
Okay.
There isn't.
And just a quick word, every sub company in the world, every sub franchise in the world is
trying all these new kinds of, uh, sub sandwiches.
Well, you have to stand out.
Yeah, you do.
And they have to keep on going to your house.
You've got subway, you've got all kinds of, yeah, fast foods are changing, uh, their menu
constantly because again, they have to stand out and that's one way of standing out.
Now there is a great story that's gone viral and it has to do with McDonald's CEO and
but let's get into that.
Okay.
So if you've been listening, you heard Gary and Shannon talk about it yesterday, our
friends, Petros and money were, uh, talking about it.
They've got, and we mentioned this last week that there's the new, uh, big arch burger,
which is an international burger.
I've had it before internationally, but they McDonald's has finally brought it to, uh,
the states here.
And for some reason, they felt the best person to pitch this was the CEO of McDonald's.
He was very, he seemed hesitant.
I'm guessing it's just his personality is not, you know, very flamboyant or anything
like that.
But he took what other, other, um, burger places are calling a mick nibble out of the
burger.
He basically kind of nibbled at it and said that he was going to finish it later for
his lunch or something.
He referred to it as a product instead of just a burger.
Uh, I really like this product.
I mean, just gave it that little mick nibble.
And so it went viral for all the wrong reasons, except for the fact we're all talking
about it.
But, um, Burger King came out and all these different, you know, you got Burger King, Wendy's,
all of them have come out with their own versions of this summer actual CEOs mocking it.
Um, but it just, it just goes to show you like you said, it's not just about the burgers
anymore.
It's not just about, you know, coming out with the perfect chicken tenders or nuggies
or whatever it is, they are battling constantly for, uh, social media attention.
They need it.
It's part, it's where the young people live and it's where people are inspired to go check
these, these burgers or new concoctions out.
So just hilarious to see, um, you know, Wendy's jumping in and mocking it.
That is funny.
And Burger King going and never was mocking that, you know, they remember the, the CEO
doing this.
You remember the commercial a whole bunch of years ago, uh, where, uh, the CEO of one of
the electric razor companies, uh, said, hi, my name is Omar Kiam.
And I am, I like this product so much I'm buying it.
And then he wrote a poem about it.
All right.
Now, uh, the reality is, I mean, that's a little obscure, uh, but the reality is, is, uh,
he did buy the company and it was, uh, that was the commercial and it was pretty good.
I like this so much.
I bought the company.
Uh, so I just thought, that's about the biggest compliment you could ever give to a
product.
That is.
I bought the company.
Yeah.
When you think about it, that's, uh, pretty impressive.
Uh, okay.
When you're going to taste things, people are very, look at nobody wants to see someone
eat.
They don't, they certainly don't want to hear us eat, which is why I tried to eat very
little during the fork report, but, um, he just didn't look like a burger guy.
If I had written that commercial marketing, because I never get, I'll never get hired
for marketing, uh, of course, and all the reasons why.
But I literally would have him take the biggest bite you can imagine and then stuff it in
his mouth and say, I can't get enough of this, uh, while he's eating.
I think, you know, that is an effective commercial.
Uh, McDonald, mm, mm, you're right.
It's stupid.
Burger lovers want to get that perfect bite.
And that is deep.
That is not.
Oh, we got a little bit of the bite.
And I am not going to touch that line with a 10 inch pole.
You just, you wish, okay, uh, ask, I handle anything started, uh, because, uh, you, uh,
and me, I get asked a huge number of times, uh, what's John, like, uh, what's Neil
like, uh, what are Gary and Shannon like, Tim Conway?
What's he like?
And then, uh, no, no one asked what's Kono like, not even close Kono, uh, what's Amy
like?
So, uh, and then they get asked what's handle like?
So out of K, out of that came ask handle anything, uh, where, uh, you sort of asked the questions,
uh, about me that people want to know, but the whole point of that is embarrassing me.
That's the difference.
So, uh, let's do it.
You record those questions during the show, you go to the I heart radio app, uh, this,
uh, show is being streamed and just click the microphone to the up right hand corner
and record your questions.
And here they are.
Let, and Neil chooses the questions because Neil loves me so much.
Okay.
Uh, first question.
Okay.
Got to do it quick.
20 seconds.
Bill, how are you doing?
Well, actually, I, I don't care how you're doing.
When you were in your party days with the cocaine, did you have a supplier?
How did you get your cocaine?
People want to know Robert from the IE.
Hello, Kono.
Jane.
Yeah.
I, I had a drug dealer like everybody else.
I had a dealer.
I'd call him up when I had some money and go, I'd like some cocaine, uh, make sure you
cut it with as much, uh, filler as you possibly can.
So I have to buy more, but yeah, I had a drug dealer, you know, I mean, all of us who
I did cocaine, but where do you find it?
You know, they come out there, they come out of the woodwork.
You ask someone who knows someone like today, I got a guy who knows a guy.
Well, I had, there was a guy who knew a dealer, who knew a dealer.
That's where you get him.
Okay.
But that's a good question.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Four years.
No, a guy who could get you chicken bakes now.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Now that is nice.
I took, I took the bar stoned out of my mind on cocaine and it worked beautifully.
Okay.
Next question.
Well, on a scale of one to 10, how welcoming were your daughters to Lindsay?
Oh, oh, great question.
Can you go below one?
I know.
Uh, you know, they were so close to getting arrested, uh, for what they were about to
do.
Uh, no, like everybody else, uh, they had a tough time, uh, when I got divorced and
they took a little while, but, uh, you know, things even out, but that is a very good
question.
It's like most people, uh, so yeah, okay, that's the reality is, uh, they're in pretty
good shape now.
Oh, yeah.
One to 10.
Uh, you know, how close were they?
Well, it was a negative one initially and now is probably about an eight, uh, in terms
of pretty good.
Yeah.
It is pretty good.
Yeah.
It is pretty good.
Okay.
Next question.
Hey, Bill, Ronnie Rae, Boineapark.
So when was your first radio job and where and did they regret hiring you or did they
say, Oh, diamond in a row?
Okay.
Uh, I'll answer the last part of the question.
Yes, they regretted, uh, hiring me and they fired me.
My first radio job, and this is a fun story.
You know that I practiced, uh, reproductive law, uh, right out of law school.
That was my, uh, specialty.
Uh, because the story of surrogacy was so enormous and broke, uh, nationally, uh, I
was a guest a million times.
And I had done my sixth interview on the Michael Jackson show, not Michael Jackson, uh,
killed himself, uh, you know, glittery glove.
There was a talk show host, Michael Jackson, who was nationally known.
And I've been interviewed on his show, uh, a bunch of times and one day walking out, walking
down the hall, this KBC, uh, the program director came up to me and said, Bill, I've been listening
to, uh, your, uh, the, your interviews.
I have to tell you, you're better than half the people I have working here.
And I said, no, Ollie, I'm better than all the people you have working here.
And, uh, he, uh, he hired me right there.
That was my first radio gig and my, uh, my auto, auto biography, uh, and, uh, the book
that I'm going to write is how to get into radio by being a dick.
Okay, uh, the, uh, next question.
Hi, Bill.
Do you and the other KFI talk show host listen to the commercials during the breaks?
If we have to endure them, so should you?
Okay, uh, I don't even listen to the talk show hosts themselves, much less it.
Listen to the commercials.
And I don't listen to my commercials.
Yeah, we listen to the commercials.
Uh, you know, I buy a lot of the products, uh, and, uh, uh, the reality is, is that when
I'm buying a product that is, uh, promoted, uh, by one of the other talk show hosts,
I generally return it.
And the good news is that most of the companies do, uh, take, uh, returns.
Uh, so, uh, why?
So, okay, let's test you.
Have you ever murdered your thirst, bro?
Wait, is that a commercial murdering thirst?
I knew it.
I knew you weren't listening.
That's a commercial.
Speaking of commercials.
Okay, bro, okay, speaking of commercials, that is actually a very good segue.
Thank you for that.
Okay.
Uh, let's go through a couple more questions, Kono.
Hey, Bill, the only thing I remember about your first show 30 years ago was that you
played devil's advocate for some reason and, uh, for a subject and you pissed off a lot of
people.
I didn't think you'd be back.
Uh, the other thing is if you had a squeaky voice, not made for radio,
high pitch, you had to go to a voice coach for that.
Uh, you got through it.
That did well.
Bye now.
Okay.
Uh, let's start with the second one.
Uh, yes.
Uh, I did have a high squeaky voice at one point because, uh, my testicles never descended.
And so hi, uh, I'm Bill and my balls are still in my stomach.
If you did go to a voice coach, though, I did, but that was because I was losing my voice.
And I had to go because I was screaming so loudly, uh, on the radio,
uh, seriously, that I was losing my voice in the devil's advocate thing.
I have no idea.
I, it's like I don't piss off people now.
Uh, give me a break.
And the, um, uh, originally, if I remember the question, oh, radio voice,
I don't have a radio voice.
As a matter of fact, I have to tell you radio voices are not wanted in radio anymore.
It used to be where, oh, yeah, what, what was that?
Like a radio voice.
Uh, definitely something to grease out shot.
I got some sort of thing.
Yeah, Mark, you know, Mark Thompson has a radio voice.
Uh, that's a great voice.
Yeah, he does, but it's a radio voice, but that's incidental.
He's not hired because he has a great radio voice.
So the answer is they don't want radio voices.
They want people that just sound like regular people, um, because that's where radio has changed.
Instead of, oh, the radio voice, what say you?
They don't do that anymore or radio doesn't do that anymore.
And that's one of the reasons that's your radio voice, huh?
That was by radio voice.
Yeah, yeah, there we go.
What I really like is the Hispanic radio voices, selling cars.
Uh, what are you using?
What are you guys doing?
Never mind.
Wow.
Okay.
That was horrible.
That was horrible.
Okay.
Next question.
Oh, that's just Fridays.
Yeah.
Next question.
Hey, Bill, I was wondering, does it bother you that you and Trump have the same vice,
mainly on the Diet Coke, people drink as the one thing you do, just like him.
Well, no, it doesn't bother me.
A lot of people have great, uh, have, uh, uh, the addiction of Diet Coke.
What about you both being, um, narcissistic?
Yeah.
And completely obnoxious and self-aggrandizing.
You know, uh, I was heard a speech by Colin Powell.
And he talked about how great it was to call him too.
Yeah.
Well, he had some issues.
Uh, anyway, he, uh, he would talk about, he said, when I was Secretary of State,
man, it was the best thing in the world.
I'd go up the ladder.
His car would drive up to, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the stairs going up to the plane.
He would walk up and, uh, he sat in his chair, ready to go with a Diet Coke can
right next to him in the little holder.
Then to him, that was, uh, that was heaven.
Okay.
And if I'm not alone enjoying Diet Coke, it does pretty well sales-wise.
All right, Connor, I think we have one more, right?
Hey, this is for ask for anything.
Phil, when did you and Lindsey meet and when did you and Marjorie separate?
Please be date specific.
I know.
I'm horrible.
I'm horrible at dates.
Uh, I heard.
Yeah.
I, okay, uh, no, that was, that was, that was, no, no, I'm very bad at dates.
No, I am very bad at dates.
I know when I met Lindsey, uh, I met Lindsey when she, she's a performer and
has a beautiful voice.
I met her, uh, in her final year of middle school and she was in a musical.
That was about 10 years ago.
And, uh, we, wow, and, and you were a dancer like your dancing around this?
Uh, no, I'm not dancing.
No, I'm not dancing around this.
I'm dancing the dates.
Don't match up.
Uh, yeah, they probably don't.
Uh, I, I remember, yes, uh, the, the, the point is, uh, the dates don't match up, okay?
Neil, you are a bastard.
You know that?
This is why we do, this is why we do ask handle anything to embarrass me
because Neil has just struck gold with embarrassing me.
Matter of fact, just to let you know, uh, Lindsey's my second life.
My third wife has not been born yet.
That's gross.
Okay.
Thank you.
I think we are done.
Are you sure, Mr. Epstein?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, oh, that one is a tough one.
Okay.
That is a lawsuit, my friend.
You were the one that was just saying that your third actually
technically your fourth wife, by the way, uh, hasn't been born yet.
Oh, yeah, but I, I wait till the 18.
You know, I don't want to get arrested.
Not on wait till they, I mean, I wait.
Okay.
I'm done.
I'm done.
Thank you.
That was really embarrassing.
Uh, Neil, uh, this was Leo's last show.
I don't know how she was.
I want, I want everybody to say goodbye.
I want everybody to say goodbye to Neil.
Uh, it has been, it has been a one thing with the dates.
Okay.
Be specific.
All right.
Uh, coming up, Gary and Shannon.
Gary and Shannon, uh, and tomorrow it's eight o'clock in the
morning.
Uh, of course, uh, handle on the law eight to 11, uh,
then reach the moral from, uh, 11 to two and then Neil, uh,
with, uh, the, uh, show fork report, all things food.
Uh, catch you on Monday, everybody.
Did you see the morning crew?
Sans Neil, uh, we're going to matter of fact here.
Oh, here it is.
On Monday, we're gonna take questions on who should replace Neil.
That's the question we're gonna ask.
You're just to give us the year.
You bastard.
