7News Just In — Former CFMEU boss's home raided over bribery allegations. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
To developing news and federal police are still at the house of a former CFM EU boss, as Jacqueline Stanley reports, as part of raids into corruption in the construction sector. And that's all the AFP will confirm at this stage they arrived here early this morning lots of police cars, neighbours have told me and even the dog squad and they've been going through the home and each vehicle with a fine tooth comb. The man at the centre of the of this is former CFM EU official John Perkovich. Federal police are investigating allegations building companies paid him massive bribes, including allegedly financing this property in his lot street in Melbourne's northwest. He was sacked by the CFM EU at the end of last year just months after he'd been promoted to second in charge of the Victorian branch. Perkovich was visibly angry this morning at one point. He took off in the grey euth behind me, officers followed and they caught up with him
at a local shopping strip and searched the car. We understand the union's own internal investigation uncovered evidence of improper conduct and corruption. And the sources told me it passed that information on it to police. This raid comes as Victoria Police's dedicated task force Hawk charged two former CFM EU delegates this week. One of them, Tyrone Bell, will face court tomorrow as this raid continues behind me.
