As the former assistant director for counterintelligence at the FBI and representative to the security, threat and intelligence team overseeing security for the 1988 DNC in Atlanta, Figliuzzi can discuss the risks/threats that law enforcement will be watching for at the DNC in Chicago, including:
. The attempted assassination of former president Trump may incite copy-cat attempts on the democratic party nominees and they travel in and around the DNC.
. The FBI director previously advised Congress that the "most lethal" for of domestic violent extremism is racially/ethnically motivated. The fact that Kamala Harris is of mixed race increases the threat to the DNC.
. The lone actor, intent on violence, is the toughest threat to defeat.. In addition to domestic terror, the global picture - including the Israel-Gaza conflict, pending retaliation against Israel from Iran and/or Hizbollah, and potential coordination between Hamas, ISIS and other groups, means that international actors could be contemplating a high-profile attack here, during the DNC.
