From Junior Star to Pro Struggles: Rob Schremp's Hockey Journey

In HL Stories, making news on March 16th, Rob Shrimp was once seen as one of Hockey's top

young talents, a skilled playmaker with a deadly shot who lit up the Ontario Hockey League.

At just 16, he earned rookie of the year in his first season with the Mississauga Ice

Dogs, leading all new players with 26 goals and 74 points.

He got even better with the London Knights, winning league scoring titles and championships,

including the Memorial Cup.

In the 2004 NHL draft, the Edmonton Oilers picked him 25th overall after a standout year

with 41 goals and international, play for Team USA at the World Juniors.

His pro career started strong in the American Hockey League, but translating that junior

magic to the big leagues proved tough.

With Edmonton's affiliates, he put up solid numbers like 53 points one year, yet only

saw a handful of NHL games, managing just a few.

A sigil, Shrimp got more chances after Edmonton waved him.

The New York Islanders gave him steady shifts, where he scored 17 goals over two seasons.

A quick stop with the Atlanta Thrasher's followed, but North American pro hockey didn't last.

He bounced around Europe in leagues like Sweden's Elite Circuit and the Continental Hockey

League, before retiring in 2018.

Coaches noted he struggled to adjust his flashy junior style against bigger, faster pros,

which kept him from sticking in the NHL.
