Matt, I think the distinction of the most interesting position group on floor state football roster this season definitely is the quarterback position

What's going to happen with Ashton Daniels? Is there going to be a true quarterback

Competition not only this spring this fall you heard Tom and Jeff talk about that earlier in the week

I think are close second in terms of interest. It's going to be how this defensive line and position group performs

But let's start here

I think the key in terms of not only adding a lot of depth to this room

But making sure that this defensive line is going to be competent this season a lot of that relied upon getting back to zero twins

And after a lengthy let's call the negotiating battle because that's what it was after a lengthy negotiating battle

Zero twins are back into the fold and there's a lot that's going to be expected of them this upcoming season

Yeah, for sure I mean they have to play a big part and you know they they've also gotten bigger since they first got here

We all know that so I think they're going to be playing multiple roles on that defensive line this year, especially in the

Versatile 335 that Tony white likes to run right and you're going to see a lot of these guys that you

Saw in some positions last year not really play the same

I guess the best way to put it would you agree is that the best way?

I mean there's a lot of ways that you can interpret how they're going to do

I think you really had to go four down last year to put up with Florida states lack of passing rush now

That may end up being a problem again this season

We don't know how some of those new additions, especially to the edge rushers in the jack position the

Ryland Kennedys of the world the Jalen Anderson's of the world

We don't know exactly how they're going to perform if there's a lack of passing

Pass rush you may see it where Tony white is forced to go four down and add guys like the zero twins push them inside

Have Deonte McRae be inside and outside. There's a lot of different ways that that you could deal with that

But I do think at least the hope is is that they're going to be able to go true

335 now that they have some more

Jack type bodies in this defense that they've added in the Florida window

Yeah, I've said I mean and you first look at Ryland Kennedy and Jalen Anderson like you said

You know, I would think those are likely your top two guys when it comes to a jack position

And it's the first time we'll see that true jack

When it comes to freshman you're looking at

Jalen Pinkney and Chris Carvin as other guys who might be in that jack room

And brook's been considered with that especially before he tore he tore his Achilles but

Who knows there is a there is the potential map that he does make it back

Similar to how Jason Jenkins was able to make it back prior to the season although he wasn't 100% until about probably the fourth or fifth game in

So we don't want to count out camp Brooks by any stretch of the imagination that there are some extra bodies there and in that

And camp Brooks had been having a good tour of duty and good offices

And he was one of the top names I'd heard

Go your throughout workout so far

Going into the year you weren't counting on him contributing and being a huge factor

So but it would have been nice right if you if he was good

It's interesting, but I do think Ryland Kennedy and Jalen Anderson will emerge as those main two guys

Let's call it as it is math. There is nobody that's going to be able to replace exactly what Daryl Jackson Jr

Brought to that defensive line

He's a man with human being he was able to soak up double teams with the best of them

I don't think there's anybody on this roster that's going to be able to do that and quite the same effectiveness

As Daryl did you do have some guys that you hope take that next step the odds in McCray had a very quietly good season last season

I think he played about 270 snaps and he did great out really well the pf

Now pf raised don't tell the entire story, but he was productive enough in what they were asking him to do

Daniel lines is another person that you would hope

stepped up and really made himself an established force on that defensive line

It feels like that's something that we've been saying about Daniel lines the past few years is hoping that he would take the next step

now that

That position or that starting job is really his to take if he wants it in that three three five scheme

Do you think that this is the year that he gets it together?

He's gonna have to right like he's the guy who has to step up and has to be good because he's been here so long

That he just this is his best time to do so right?

I mean last year he was kind of a starter, but it was always behind Daryl Jackson

So it was four down it was normally him and Daryl Jackson next to each other, but this is

Yeah, this has got to be his time to finally step up and do that now McCray has someone

I've been high on since he got here from Western Kentucky last year

I think if you remember correctly

I put him higher in my top 40 before last season and it was kind of switched between everyone and James Williams up there and

And instead I had McCray up there and James Williams farther down and

Not to my own horn. Yeah, I don't know you have something that somebody else did it

So I

Yeah, so I'm I'm high on McCray. I actually think he could be a really good defensive lineman for this team

Especially because he'll probably play more on the inside this year just because those defensive

I'd see him Nick and I were talking right before we recorded this

He's a guy who I could see being pretty versatile on this defensive line in three three five

So do because he played on the end last year

But with the having more of that true Jackie can probably kick inside some this year

I I think if you look at it he'll probably be more inside

I could see a mix of both though. I'm not exactly sure

I think as we get through spring camp will really see but he's what I'm very high on it

I've been high on for his all his all time at Florida State

I think what weight McCray shows up with when he starts spring practice next week

I think it's going to tell you a lot because they tried him at around the two 60 two 65 pound range

And then they bolt them up for fall camp last year around to 80

But where he ends up this spring in terms of height weight

I think that's going to tell you a lot about where they want him

That's not to discount guys like Kevin win who was injured for a lot of that year

But it's obviously somebody that Florida State is heavily invested and not only financially

But in terms of his potential where do the odds that juju win gets into mix or even somebody like Thailand Lee who

Was really growing into his body last year is there a chance that he makes an impact in his second season

I do outside. I just looked up a craze weight on the FSU roster website and it has 287 now

So I guess that's probably put some trending towards being more of an inside guy

So you guys about Kevin win that's another guy you really want to step up because when he wasn't hurt

He was showing a lot of promise last year

And he's one of those guys that you know

I'm not exactly sure the terms was contract

If we do know is a multi-year deal and that was probably a big reason that helped him stay when he intended to enter the portal at one point

You would assume that means this is year two of two. I'm not sure it could be three

But you know that makes it a big year for him personally as well

Right if he wants to be able to get that next contract or get paid somewhere else so it's

He's one that also needs step up

But I think that one has a best chance of him stepping up just because he showed those flashes before he got hurt last year

At which is really unfortunate he was also having a really good fall camp at that point

He had had a good spring camp

He's one that has been very close and then he got that's when he got hurt

So I think that is one you could see be a big storyline and I think that's one of those swing pieces for this defensive line

Nick when you think of if he does well this deep bits of line is probably in a lot better place than if he does

Well, you really bid the nail on the head

I think if you're talking about a major concern for this defensive line across the board whether that's on the inside or the outside

It's where's the death going to come from because you lost a lot in terms of transfers that didn't work out last year

And went their own separate ways you're losing a big piece of them and know what they're all Jackson

But I mean the elephant in the room and we talked about it mentioned already

He just couldn't get any pass rush last year

I mean, it's almost like Tony white had to go four or five down minimum in order for them to generate any pass rush

But there's also the depth equation where let's say

Deontay McCray goes out with an injury or a god forbid you lose one of the zero twins

So you're counting on to be really the the bulk and the core of that defensive line if one of those goes down

Who's going to step up you're going to throw numbers at the problem and hope that one of the younger guys that you brought in kind of blossoms early

And is able to take control of that's where you feel a little bit better

About the depth behind you on the too deep. We already talked about cam Brooks

Is a guy that was that we were hearing a lot of good things about but unfortunately got injured

Is there anybody else that is part of that true freshman group that can come in and you think add valuable depth and even crack some playing time in their first season

It's going to be hard. I think we really to truly know that we're going to have to see what like

How earnest Rankin's body fills out, right? That's one big thing like what's his white weight coming or sorry

Really just way coming out of tour of duty

You know because that's the first thing to because that's just the highest ranked guy, right?

So it's yeah, I mean, that's not a not a hard not a hard prediction there

But like we need to see how they look coming out of fall or coming out of tour of duty because you know, it's

You know, I'm on when you're on the bench all the time and we'll get we just had a month off of the bench

You start to see it happen. Well, we see me every day. It's hard to see

But now that we've had a month off and we'll be out there and we could see the players come through

Maybe we'll see a little bit of a difference from these workouts over the last month

I mean look at this point last year

We didn't really know about the Seer twins well until Tony white started mentioning them in the spring

So just look out for that look out for whoever the coaches start saying is performing after practice and you know

This time maybe we should pay a little bit of extra attention to it because last year kind of bit us and in the butt when we were like

What the Seer twins really are that's all something that you kind of have to toy with when you're listening to coaches

Are they telling you what they think that you're going to want to hear or what the players are going to want to hear or are they being truthful?

Now the white has shown he'll be truthful

He's pretty true. Yeah, so

There's a lot that we're going to figure out here in the spring very very shortly
