Hey, thank you very much for tuning in to the Breakfast Club catch up podcast and it's brought to you by our very good friends. We couldn't do it out them the team at Farmers. Farmers is your department store for everything fashion, beauty, toys and home. That's slightly interesting. Hey Sue, welcome. Yeah, good morning. Yeah, good morning Sue. Yeah, thank you. Right away. Good Oh, you're nice. We need you to be judgy soon with the rest of us as Beatty takes on the fact. So, okay, so hey Sue, quick question. Do you have any Viking heritage in you that you know of? No, no, no, okay, fair enough. Well today's about the origin of the saying, paying through the nose. You know, in like, something's real expensive and you like this new life, I know that you're all about Simon. The new life and you go, man, I've had to pay through the nose for that. Before and a half grand for it, apparently. So apparently that's saying dates back to around the ninth century with the Vikings when they used to have the pole tax. So every time they'd gather around in the village, everyone have to bring their sort of their coins and their their trinkets, their trinkets

to goblins to pay the tax. When they couldn't pay the tax, the chief Viking would get out a little dagger and literally slice open the person's nose or in Simon's case get an axe and remove it entirely. You're joking. So is this like a BWI when no one brings a bottle of wine? Yeah. And they cut your nose open. They'd cut your nose open or off entirely. Oh, Lee. And so that then sort of just made its way from kind of the Scandinavian countries. People sort of heard about it, made its way to the UK and sort of England where it was then more popularized to be paying through the nose. Just like as something was really expensive, it was a cost you didn't want to pay. Wow. Did they ever survive or was there like so much? There are a lot of new endings around the nose. You know, sometimes you get a sore pimple, then you know. So like man, would you bleed to death from that? I think that's why if you look back at a lot of the sort of the images from that time, a lot of them look like Voldemort, you know, just no no. So what do you reckon?

I actually think that's pretty cool. So I say yes. So thank you for your input. We're going to put you in room 2175 for the choice hotels draw tonight. So five o'clock Sierra and Adam on the drive home could call out 2175 and you'd be off to a choice hotel in ours. Thanks for playing. So drive safe. Why there are second so and that's the second to last trip today, by the way. Last one tomorrow. Oh, now I just felt like maybe your heart wasn't in that. You're okay. You're going for long than the man. Yeah. Was it? You can have liking heritage and you lost Uncle Grant from the same thing. No, I don't. I've got Italian heritage, one eighth Italian and a splash of French. And then a lot of English. All right. So I'm angry. How are you all? Yeah, I'm going to scrape through. Okay. I'm going to scrape through with that because it is interesting. I was just not sure your heads in the game today.

I hope it is. So if you're right, this is like. I appreciate the pep talk. So yes, I consider it so. I'm schooled there, sweetie. And I'm actually I don't want to, but I'm actually going to go yes because fantastic Simon. You the moment I walked through here today, you had a sort of aura about you, like you couldn't wait to knock me down. I couldn't wait to knock you down. That's true. You could do it. No, because I thought that's not fair. Are you interested in Simon? Yes. But I want in future, I want you to remember the stage, be them be kind to me next time with that. So I'm not speeding. I'm going to try and stay on that slightly interesting until the end of time, just to prove you wrong. Yeah. Keep going. I'm like, I'm going to keep getting bad news. Yes. Just so Simon couldn't possibly vote me down. You've done it, though. I'm going to be back tomorrow for that slightly interesting. The Breakfast Club podcast. Some countries were away the country, but you still need to like if you go into America, you got to get your Esther. If you go to the UK, it's called an ETA or an ETA. See this is this is stuff that I've generally found confusing. I was looking past what that was that.

No, you need this just to prove you're going over there and you know, you're going to get out of there and attach us to your passport for about two years, depending on the country. So what a Reagan say to us yesterday. Can you remember? Yeah, there's Reagan's. He basically is one of the bosses and he said, I, well, he actually sent me text. He said, I need your passport photo again. I'm going to give screenshot of your passport for details. And can you send me another photo? A selfie? Can you send me a selfie? Yeah. And what should send the meeting with a blank wall behind us? Right? Yeah. I remember that and I'm not even going on this trip. So figure that one out. Okay. Now what? What part? Where is it we need the photo? Take a selfie with a blank wall. In a passport style. Why didn't hear that? I just have to have self-execilative hearing. You hit, oh, okay, someone here wants a selfie of me. Boy, do I have the photo well for you? No, I didn't. I don't do selfies. Do you want a Jim selfie, Reagan? Is that what you're after? I don't do selfies. Okay, so you don't.

So you don't do selfies? Okay. So there would have been hard to see in one then. Yeah, exactly. So tell me why you send a selfie of you at the beach. Oh my goodness. Are you kidding me right now? You've got, okay. You send a photo of you at the beach with glasses on. You can see the beach. Oh no, I know what's happening. It looks like it's a criteria to be patient, Salute. You have a self-align. Absolute smart asses. I was just waiting for my own business and got a phone call from Reagan going, can you believe Simon thinks the British government will take this photo home with the biggest shade you've ever seen with a beach behind him for his ETA? Because when I sent him, now it's all making sense. When I sent him that photo, he just sends back about 25 laughing emojis. I'm like, it's a government agency. They're not going to take you with your big bono glasses on. My big bono glass three blind minds at the beach.

So I went through my camera roll and I'm like, when I walked the abled Tasman, I thought I better send my kids a photograph of what I'm doing. And it's gorgeous photo. I was on my own. I took a selfie for the first time in my life and felt super self-conscious. I was in the middle of the bush with no one on the wall. It's a great photo. On one of the great walks. And I was minding my own business. So I sent Reagan that one. Because I don't know what you thought the UK castles would be interested in seeing that beautiful photo. Well, I didn't know. I couldn't. Hey, I'm not that stupid. I know. Hey, hey, hey, I didn't say he's stupid. I know that it passed away. I know about it. I know it passed away. I didn't know that. I don't know that. But you've got classes, beach, outside. Well, I thought this was something else. That was having to send a photograph. Oh, darling. OK, so play the sad music with your mind. Because I've got some feedback for you. Sadly, I made a real about this yesterday. And with the photo as well.

With the photo. And I just showed everyone what you thought was accepted a board of send. For your ETA application. And Spenny will now just read some of the thousands of comments. So one of you, some of you wonderful listening fans. Oh, my gosh. And just so you know Simon, I haven't made any of these comments up. These are 100% real good. You can see later in your own time. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want to see anything. They're a lot of They're a lot of questions yet, except about me but I don't want to see them. 10 more than once on this trip. Hey, she might let me down. Maybe. Yep. I'm not promising I won't, but I just think

how it must be already happening before we've left. Just been looking at the track record of you guys leaving the studio together. And I'm pretty sure if we were like, 10 times out of 10, you've been the one that's had some travel plans, leaving suits in airports twice. I'm actually embarrassed now. There's one coming I love. This has come through from Steph. Steph said, I think, I'm kind of dissatisfied with the trips that are out of song after this for another break. Oh. I can't believe that that's happened. That's a real mix up there. Yeah. So I was sure what the photo was for. The photo is basically for another department for them, just the, you could even maybe try and send your passport photo. If you still have that, we went to the same place to get those. No, I burnt that. It was so disgusting. I was embarrassed to myself. OK, well, you can't send the one you sent. I looked like a walk criminal. You should send that one. You should send the photo of that one. That one you took in front of the mirror. Which one? Oh, the gem one. Yeah, that's good.

I mean, I don't take selfies, but sure I've got about five hours. I don't know. Let me just tell myself. I don't do that. But I've got a kid. Why don't I take a photo of me? I walk. Oh my gosh. OK, fine. So what do I have to do now? You've got to take a photo. Oh my god. Well, do it of each other today, because it's actually really hard to do it selfie mode, because it doesn't meet with their criteria. They're very strict, OK? I'm sorry to do that, too, but I don't want a good top. Who cares about the top? They're only see shoulders. Oh, OK. He's going to pout. Yeah, Zoolander's coming to the shoe. OK, actually, my shoulder's out. One of my best features. Can I take the gun of shoes off? Can we take it from the back? OK. What you're going to check into the UK is a walking pair of shoulders. I'll rock up to the customs with the shirt off. Hey, do you recognize these? Well, thanks. Thanks, I'm nothing. It's Zoolander. Yesterday, I was walking to the office. And I'm not going to tell you the details,

because that wouldn't be fair to the person who made the innocent comment, but something about me. And it made me really blush. Can you say innocent? Was it like a compliment? It was a compliment. It was a slight bite. It was a really no. No, I won't. Wow. I think we found a dead end. We're straight up known. I don't think you should keep mining there, Speedy. Yeah. Walk away. Well, go on, you've ascending some clear boundary, Simon. I'm proud of you. We know there's a line. OK. We're actually dead here. Great line, man. No, so I'm not going to be there. But it was a compliment. It was very nice. And you know, like, maybe unvolvable, but it was lovely. And I just went, I could feel my temperature going up. This hasn't happened to me since I was 13 years old. Men don't blush like this. You've been the person gave you the compliment. I hope you didn't do it. You just did then. It's like, stop. No. I'm the boss of my own body.

I'm bored. I could just like this. That was like a visceral kind of like this temperature rising. Felt my cheeks go flushy. Yeah. I knew I was bright red. And then I was like, now what do I do with this face? You should all, do you not find when someone throws a comment? I know what you mean. It's, I think in New Zealand, we have a real problem with it too. Like accepting it and absorbing it and then just taking it on and not having to be weird and try and like. Yeah, and minimise it? Females often do it with things like dresses. That's a lovely dress. Thanks, it's got pockets. You know, like, why do we do that? What, it was on sale. That's the thing. Yes, yeah. Oh, she meant, oh, wear this whole thing. It's like, but what you did, you sat in the compliment. I did. And so that's what, I think that's why people deflect all that try and say something nice about the other person straight away. So this doesn't happen. No. And maybe that's how you're supposed to feel. Well, maybe, but it was that, it was that real hot flash. I was like, I was having menopause in that moment. And I was like, manopause. Manopause.

And it just really struck me as I left and it was a wee bit awkward and I was like, it walked away, all good. And then last night, I was just thinking about it, thinking not the comments so much, but just, when's the last time I blushed? And I honestly think it would have been when I was a teenager. And it was probably because my flow was undone, you know. Something stupid, yeah. Yeah, I'd walked out to the lounge with my jami's and we flat was open when I was a kid, you know. And the system says, what the hell's that? My God! You shouldn't have one. What the hell is that? What the hell is that? Jami's having a whistled the left of the front. Oh, yeah, because he used the flat. He just pulled the pant down. Exactly, Lada. He used the flat. Someone said to me, what the hell is that? I'd blushed too. Yeah. I'd run away from home. Yeah. I didn't even be here. What'd you didn't say? I'm talking about you. She actually probably said, whoa! No! Oh, she was like, where is it? LAUGHTER Whoa! Holy SPC eye!

You. Anyway. So thanks for last time I blushed. Wings the last time, puffing down. OK. Wings the last time you blushed, Lada. I can't, I'm a bit like you before this happened. I can't think of it, but that's probably because I've got the deflection mechanism in me to quickly put it on to somebody else because you don't like sitting in that space. In that space. Because you're not giving it back to the put on and you're not going to tell us anything more about who it was or what they said. No, I couldn't give it back. I had to receive it. And I did. OK. And then my face received it. Why are we talking about it again? So why don't you, Wings the last, you'd be a blusher, Spader. You look like a blusher. Yeah, I think I blushed the other. I'm going to show it the moment. And then we were doing a rehearsal for that. And I think it was like the first time some of my lines are not racy, but there's sort of, there's a certain element to them, shall we say. Right. And doing that in front of people, and then like getting a reaction. I sort of had a moment where I thought, oh, that's right, I'm doing this in front of, I'm doing this in front of people. And there's an ad on that. And that's a weird feeling, isn't it? Yeah. And then I was sort of left in, I was like, why am I feeling embarrassed?

Because I'm not. Well, and what's the difference between is blushing more of a humble thing as opposed to being embarrassed? I think so. Embarrassed from an act. Yeah, it can be embarrassing. I guess if you've blashed, went through embarrassment. Yeah, this wasn't. It was more the flattery. And it was like, oh, I'm flaring. Yes, flaring, you know. So it's a combination. So a few texts coming in. Why don't you give us a call? Remember every call that gets on the show, you're in the draw for Choice Hotel, so a trip to Oz second the last day. We're doing this, by the way. So I wait a hundred more of him, or text of 559. Quickly goona. And it isn't a adrenaline thing. So it's just that like immediate. It's a rush. And your blood vessels kind of widen in your face, which gives you that sort of flushed feeling. So it should drain all. So it should drain all. But adrenaline. OK. Oh, well, that was working. If only we knew who came from. It's not. I think it was Murray. Murray and sales. Oh, Bob's dog. Let's go to the phone's first of all. To Hamilton, we go. Andrea, hi there. Hi, how are you? We are great. Thank you for calling in. Thanks.

You're welcome. Now, you sound like someone who would blush. You just sound sort of humble and happy. Like, you swage. Yeah. But it was quite a bad situation for you. Wasn't a bad guy. Yeah, it was. Back in my 20s, I really liked a guy. He had asked me out. I was most excited. I'm scared for my best friend to say, oh my god, you and you would guess what's happened. I said, I haven't been on a date for so long. Can't even remember what the heck I do. And you're in your 20s. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I talked over you. What happened after that? And I sent the text message straight to him. No. Oh. And I said it to my best friend. So then you're in that awful, that awful gap between where, what do you say anything after that? Do you ring your friend? Do you change your name and move countries?

Correct. That's exactly what I was thinking. I couldn't believe it when I figured out what I had done. And it was when his text message came back that I went, oh my god. And oh my gosh. I can, sorry. His text back was actually quite sweet. And he said, I think this is what we do on the date. Do you know what, though, as a guy that happened and you get the text from that saying, oh my gosh, you'll never get so and so, ask me out. You'd be flattered as all flattered. It's real, yeah. It's real. It's real. Did you end up with him? Did you tell us you got married? You got children and you're all happy. No, no, no. We did take for a while, though. And it was great. Yeah. Oh, man. This doesn't sound like a horror story, per se. So that's good. Yeah. Hey, well, a lovely story, Andrea. Hi, Debbie. Good morning, how are you guys? Great. Thank you. Good. What happened? I was trying clothes on. And it was just a curtain. And I got down to my underwear and the sails. It didn't come along. And just open the whole curtain.

Why do I open? Why do you do that? Probably about 12, 13 people in the shop. My other female, I just bad died. Why are the people in the shops that do that with the curtains so bolshey Debbie? It's an vulnerable time for us. Well, it's because I was trying on a dress or something. And I was still sitting there and doing the baffin. Oh, no. It takes ages and he's stressed out. And it's like it's like a little bit in the hospital and seeing people wearing their hospital gowns. Is that doing their exercise? Is it the back split I've been getting? I've been getting up. I've been there and done that. Oh, no. It's an nasty look. Vanessa, the finish, and thanks for all the text on this. Vanessa says, I've actually been told someone in the manner that when you blush in your face, it is part of your adrenal glands reacting. And your butt cheeks also go red. I've never checked. What? Who is that? Well, how does one check? Well, that would be a turn up, wouldn't it? Yeah, it's your cheeks. And it's your cheeks, times two.

Like, both sides. That's a crazy thing. We should check that out. Man, how, though? You can't even look at someone's knee without blushing. Oh, my God. The speed goes and pulls us through. It's down. And we do the test. Then, out, you'll find. Hey, Spain, could you come in here? LAUGHTER But we've got to wear the pants off. I've undone my belt. Oh, God. OK. Yeah, say something embarrassing to them. That looks like a winner on his floor. Any more ways you're going to start paying, Barnett. LAUGHTER Well, I was going to say what's the right. I don't want to know. I don't want to know the right. Oh, good stuff. I'm nearly starting to blushing again, speed. Oh, my God, is that so, Lana? Welcome, everybody. I beg your dying to know what town hall we're in. Yes, please. Today we're in the Tiano town hall. It's extra cold here today. I didn't bring enough layers. Yeah, that's because you just got off the Kepler track. Yes. How'd you know?

My dad's got a bat in Tiano. A dusky street. Well, good. You should be coming to therapy and not laughing today then. It's just a weird crap up, but I'll probably get that one day. Here's an open. A chunk of chink. OK. I'm taking the time, shit. Welcome to Theoraby Thursday, where today we're honing in on attacks by birds, but not just any birds, of the long-necked variety. So we're talking variants of swans and geese. Thank you so much. I don't think we've ever had a response quite so large. Would you agree? Yeah. Without any text messages? Yeah, you're actually right. Terrifying news. Would you like to start? Simon, do you have one or would you like me to start? No, I think you start. OK. I probably can reserve. I haven't been attacked by that nearly long niece. Long, long one. Long niece. Sorry. OK. Do you have a niece who can place the silver feds or something?

Long niece. Yeah. When I said that, it came out wrong, but your face is absolutely gorgeous. You've done that. You do that to me all the time. It's like you look at me within credulity in your eyes. Like, what the hell is Simon on again? Yeah. E. Buffering or is that me? Long niece. Yeah, it reminds me of that ad that I'm sorry. It's like diversion here. Ah. Do you remember that ad for all brain? Tall Jan is malicious. And she was like this super tall woman. Maybe give him the look, Lanna. Speedy. Tall Jan is malicious. We have paid for this haul per hour. And if we go over to the second hour, we're going to be in trouble. I also haven't been attacked by a goose. Ah, fine. Just paying the people over. I'm leaving the hall. It's me and the people. You've earned your guys' money, Lanna. I've listened to this show. LAUGHTER So, hi everyone, I'm Lanna. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Keep it moving. So there's this particular park where I go running. And I hadn't been for a while because I obviously haven't been out of run with my league. And I tried to go for a small truck the other day around it.

And there she was. I came around the corner. And there is Barbara. Simon's niece. So, Simon's niece with a long neck. And she's the same one that used to always attack me. And I thought maybe she won't recognize me now. Now that I've had a leg that's broken and come back together. And I thought, what past do I do? She opened her little red gob and made the most alarming noise. And I thought, was it her? It was like a whisper. It had a bit of a squawk in it. Right. Like that. And I thought, shh. And then she's, I thought, shh. Didn't say the tea. And so she just starts chasing me. And there is nothing scarier as an adult than this long necked bird. Chasing you and nipping you at the back of the knees. And you don't know when she's going to give up. Yep, hashing away yet. Yep. The park itself, I'll tell you what it's called now. If there's anyone in that area, watch out. The Travis wetlands. Oh.

Stay right away. You are absolutely right. That's legitimate. Much like Western Springs. Yeah. There's a lot of long necked birds there. Yeah. No, you're actually down right. You're right. And that Willow bang is the same. Have you been to Willow bang? Oh, yep. And you actually have to run through this gaggle of geese. You have to run through them. Because if they smell, a if they smell fear, fear. Fear? Fear. Or food. Then you're, then you're, then you're still. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. If you've been to Halter Lagoon in Wellington, that was made here for fear, the fear, there. And they will chase you. No jokes. The tech's machine has absolutely gone ballistic here with people that are attacked by geese long necked birds. Long necked birds. Swans. Swans are acceptable too. Actually, even maybe even a turkey would buy a definition, have a slightly longer neck than a domesticated bird. Yeah. It's longer than a buggy. Now, who shall I go to first, love? Let's go to Misty. Misty standing by in Manurewa, a story about Misty's son.

Hi, Misty, welcome to Therapy Thursday. Hi, thank you. Yes, of course. Of course, the floor is yours. Good morning. Just please introduce yourself to the group Misty and then far away. Well, my name's Misty. And I have a son who fed for his life a little bit and was a little bit traumatised. I know you. What happened, Misty? Misty? Misty, Misty. And God! And God! Misty! And God! Misty! And God! Is the only answer. Is Misty? Misty, have you mused yourself with your cheek? Misty's... Wait, wait, wait, wait. Trub, Trub, Trub, Trub. She's been eating. What's her shame? Hi, I haven't read you before. I've done to Therapy Monday. To Gany, watch your back, mate. Hi, Andy. Good morning, guys. Well, we had two keys on the farm near Ashburton. Yes, Simon, the area of the world.

Yes. But these are the most horrible birds that you've ever come across. A chock will go up and down a fence all day and it'll figure out that it can fly over at a turkey so stupid, it'll stay there a week. That thing used to chase me all the time. And one day I ran inside and we had a bird. And one day I ran inside and we had one of those gates that had a mecanism on it. And I slammed it so hard that all I could hear was, oh, and I looked back and it's neck was hanging. But it was so big that my mother made me pluck it and then we cut it in half and we had to try and eat it. Oh, my God. So revenge is sweet. So all I'm going to say. They really had a way of teaching you lessons in Ashburton. Nothing like a bit of trauma, Lana, trust me. Remind us never to come to your farm and walk up and down the fence Andy. Sadly, mate. Mate, you are great and a great story to elevate. Don't forget to check the room next door. Make sure Misty's okay. Misty, you've got a room number two.

Yeah, where if you are? Poor Misty. Disappear. Casey says, hi, Simon and Lana. I got attacked by a pelican. When I went to Australia, it was one of my ice cream, which I dropped in terror. Surely, yeah, you would. You'd just surrender your ice cream. You'd just drop it. Like those blooming, bin chickens over there. What's a bin chicken? Oh my God. That's how next trip after this current one. You taking on bin chickens. What's a bin chicken? Well, you find them mostly in Queensland. I don't think it might be in some of their further south. They are the most heinous bird and they hang around like Dream World and movie world by the rubbish bins. And just any rubbish bin. And they are ugly looking creatures. So they're like sea gods? Much bigger. And you make me laugh. I've been chicken for Simon. No thanks. Oh my God. Sheep has misty's just been devoured by a bird we never heard from her again. Right. Sign Lana. There are still some seats available on the Wazak's press flight, which gets you not only a flight from the South Island to the north.

So Christchurch to Auckland. It also gets you a seat at Mount Smart Stadium. A category one seat to watch the warriors take on the dolphins. So there are, I mean, a lot of them have gone. But there are still some left. I would get those like in like soon. To just jump online today. Yeah, jump online. Jump in the website. I'm hosting it, which I'm really excited about with Owen Guttenbeer. That's going to be great. Can't wait. Yeah. Just got the wee script through. That's very exciting. It doesn't actually have their word for word when it comes to the boarding call. I'm assuming Owen and I will do the boarding call at the airport. Like say, flight 625, leaving through gate 33. Yeah. So I'm paging Simon Barnett. Why did you go to the toilet once the boarding call became? Sorry, I just ran about to grab a suit. It feels so real. Oh God. So we thought yesterday when we were talking about this, we were like, oh, we should give it a crack. Do the boarding call thing. Because it's all well and good sitting here in a radio studio with microphones in a carpeted room. But when you're actually at the airport, everyone looks grumpy sitting in those seats waiting for their call.

Do you find it? No one looks happy to be there. Yeah, they do it, but hey, yeah, they do you're right. Maybe you off to a funeral, but that doesn't explain everyone. Unless there's a mass fan right on a waiver in the seat. No, the suppose it's also kind of a place of neutral emotion. Like if you're just sitting there waiting for 20 minutes it'll be a bit strange if you sat there with a smile on your face the whole time. It's like Switzerland is what you say. So we're going to give it a go. Because I reckon you'd be actually quite good at this. This could be your calling of things going to put here and you get arrested in the UK, get sent home and have nowhere to work. Yes. Airport possibly. Okay. So bring in the airport aviolks. Oh, that's nice. Yeah, that is. That's legit. Do you guys go first? No, you go first. I can go first. Are you sure? We're brought on the props. I'm on nice, Lama. Are you ready? Yep. I'm captain speaking. But for now, sit back, return your host to the upright position, relax and enjoy the flight. And can I just say in closing, up the bars. That was vet. God, I'll be smashing it at the door of that comp, but to see what you look like. Oh my God. I won't say though with some captain. Do you find it's a bit of this? Ah. I can't relax. Do you want to fuck it? There's three levels of the limit. Shortly about it. It's from the 25th, isn't it? Captain crew, pre-pre-added captain. That is so true. Why do they do it like that?
