With the trade deadline behind us, it's now time for the stretch run for teams looking
to make a playoff push.
We had a huge match up in Dallas as the stars hosted the avalanche.
The ducks looked to stay perfect in the shootout while the blues looked for their first
overtime win.
And unfortunately, we have a lot of injury news to pass along as well.
The tail is on all that and more on this edition of Lockdown NHL Games.
When that final horn sounds, you know, it's time for Lockdown NHL Game Night.

And together, we bring you the latest goals, saves and highlights across the National
Hockey League on what is now officially post trade deadline.
But there is no post madness on a Friday night around the NHL.
Let's get active.
And there was no choice as to what would be our lead game without question.
It is the matchup of the top two teams in the Central Division.
A rematch of last year's seven game playoff epic series.
And oh, by the way, a battle of the top two teams in the NHL.
It was the Dallas stars, hosting the Colorado Avalanche, abs entered the game, leading
the league with 91 points, Dallas 85 points, and riding a franchise record, 10 game winning
streak.
This one would certainly live up to the hype with 13.2 seconds left, Colorado with tie
it.
So to overtime, it had to be decided in a shootout where Colorado would get the five for victory.
Let's waste no time to get a report from one of our local experts, the host, um, locked
on Colorado Avalanche, it's Zach Pearson.
Today, I believe we can officially say everything is coming up Avalanche.
On the same day that the abs acquired Nasem Kadri from the Calgary Flames, they defeat
the Dallas stars five to four in a shootout on the back of a heck of a cool performance
from Marty NHS, from Nathan McKinnon, from a relief, amazing performance of one Scott
Wedgewood.
And then coming in in the clutch to defeat his former team, it's Valery Nathushkin, who
gets the game tying goal with 13 seconds left, as well as the shootout winner.
This was, this is a preview of playoffs without a doubt.
This game was fantastic.
These two teams now have gone to a shootout twice this year, trading victories.
There's no like this seems like a team like a matchup that is destined to happen in the
playoffs.
And I for one, cannot wait for that to happen.
This was such a fun game, obviously a little more excited even that the Avalanche come
out on top, but my goodness, just phenomenal game from start to finish.
Both teams with chances, both teams with great opportunities and the Colorado Avalanche
skate away with the victory.
So we'll break down the whole thing on the lockdown Avalanche podcast, be sure to check
that out.
And thanks to Zach Pearson for that report, obviously a lot to chew on.
This game certainly lived up to what we all thought it would be.
People would tune in to see a great hockey game.
It was a great hockey game.
It had drama.
It had a little bit of everything.
Jamie Ben had a chance at an empty net to seal the win and missed it.
Left the door open for the abs and they were able to take advantage of that.
And Zach touched on it, but Mackenzie Blackwood started for Colorado.
He had a lot of four goals on 11 shots got pulled and Scott Wedge would come in and save
the day.
Did not allow a goal the rest of the way, regulation over time or the shootout.
Great performance by him for Colorado now.
Eight point lead on Dallas in the central and Dallas is 10 game.
When he street comes to an end, they still have an 11 game point street going on.
But just a great hockey game.
If you came for a Texas size meal, you let's very satisfied.
Maybe a little room for dessert.
Oh, yeah, you were well fed because this game had everything.
I mean, everything you could possibly want.
And listen, if you told me that considering all things that I mean, if I'm being honest,
I'll consider all things the way that this game started all Dallas at the beginning,
especially in that first period, that Colorado was going to ultimately find its way back
into this game.
I wouldn't think you're crazy.
I probably would have said, well, tonight's not Colorado's night, wrong.
And as you had in the local report, and I think it was astute, you said on the day that
a reunion took place, no pun intended to the old reunion arena and they used to stand
in Dallas, Texas for those of you that are older to remember, that old barn, Nazum Cashew
returning back to the Colorado Avalanche, you know what, we turned absolute mayhem.
That's what it was.
That's what it absolutely was.
And you know, something else, Nathan McKinning, that power play goal and wish that it made
it three to two Dallas at the time, wish that Colorado made it, you know, now it became
a one goal deficit.
You thought that would be it.
Nope.
Jamie Ben said, haha, back to a two goal lead.
And then everything in that third period was absolutely insane from the way that it looked
like the stars were about to put a ribbon on this game game over.
Jamie Ben had the wide open net and all of a sudden, nope.
All of a sudden, Colorado's got got life again on the 615 and all that it happens is that
Valerie Nitruskin says, haha, not like who's there, me, Thai game.
And bro, when it happened, I'm like, man, there's only one person in the planet earth who's
got to be kicking themselves tonight.
And that is Ben himself because if he buries out wide open net goal, just to basically put
the game away for the stars, we're not having this conversation.
Mr. Nitruskin says, thank you very much.
Have a good one.
I'll see you for supper.
And he comes up huge and the shootout.
But what a game.
What a game.
What a crazy turn of events between the avalanche and stars.
It's a shame that it was just only one game, but imagine if they make it, they meet in
the playoffs again, just imagine, just imagine.
Well, Miko Rattenin did not play in this game.
That should be noted, injured for Dallas and the Olympics.
But unfortunately, the stars also suffer what looked to be a serious injury in this game.
Rope Hints left in the second period, got tangled up along the boards with Nathan McKinnon.
Look like left leg left knee had to be helped off the ice.
Don't know the extent of it, but certainly looked like could be a significant injury for
Rope Hints.
Moving on, we have the Vegas gold tonight's hosting the Minnesota wild wild, their third
in the central, but still one of the best teams in the NHL taken on a Vegas team that
entered the night in first place, the Pacific.
Minnesota would score three goals in the second period, Zach Magogian, Matt Zugarello,
and in his wild debut, Michael McCarran picked up recently in a trade.
And that would be enough for Philip Gustafson, who would have a nice night in net as the
wild would skate off with the victory and Minnesota getting its 84th point on the season.
Now, they're two back of Dallas for second in the central and possibly a home ice matchup
in the first round of the playoffs, but 84 points for the wild.
And that would put them in first place in every other division except the central, where it
puts them in third place. Four two with the final score, by the way, in this one, Minnesota looking
pretty good against what would be the top team in the Pacific coming into the night anyway.
This is why this current playoff format is garbage, because this is an example of why Minnesota,
as you said, they would normally be in first place, but be it as a main, it is what it is.
However, with that being said, as far as tonight's game is concerned,
this was a game in which that Minnesota continues to find different goalscores in different
parts of the lineups on a nightly basis. Madzu Carrillo, unassisted goal, Sac Pagosian,
who's not a goal scorer himself. This is only his second goal of the year. Talk about
finding different guys who's going to step up and step in on a nightly basis. Oh,
not to be forgotten, Michael McCarran, six goal of the year. And then, of course, the usual suspect,
Vladimir Tarasenko, doing what he does best going 16 goal of the year for Minnesota as well.
But I say all of that to say, Minnesota continues to show why I genuinely believe that they are
among the three teams that are going to be the most dangerous in the West Come Playoff time.
And I really do believe that Colorado, of course, Minnesota, like being another one,
and frankly, I'm going to include Dallas there because just because, but that's a different
segment for another show for another time later. But Minnesota in this game, they just continue
to put a lot of pressure on Vegas defensively. And there are times I thought that Vegas just
look absolutely like overwhelmed at various different points in this game. And Minnesota
ultimately able to come away with a four to win. Well, I could or not, it appears we'll have another
epic first round matchup in the West between Minnesota and Dallas in the first round. Who gets
home ice in that one still remains to be seen. The ducks look to move in the first place. The
Pacific take advantage that Vegas loss will check that out next year on Lockdown NHL game night.

All right, let's keep it going. We had the top team of the Eastern Conference on the road,
Caroline Hurricanes in Edmonton. Taking on the Euler's, Keynes came in in first place in the
Metro. And again, most points in the East Edmonton came in holding on to third place in the
Pacific. Carolina led to one after one. Nicolai Euler is getting his 20th of the year.
Two teams would trade goals in the second and then in the third. Carolina is scoring three times
two by Jackson Blake. Goals 18 and 19 on the season in Carolina. It's a six, three road victory.
Zach Hyman, a couple of goals in the loss for Edmonton. Number is 26 and 27. So the Euler is
still in third in the Pacific for Carolina. 86 points now for the most in the East. And they
lead the Metropolitan Division by 11 points on both Pittsburgh and the New York Euler's.
Your Carolina Hurricanes are going to be division champs this year.
You know how hot Carolina is right now?
They're seven, they won seven and they ain't nobody in the last 15 games. They're 12, one and two.
I mean, if you ask me, that's skillet frying hot. And to your point about on Carolina,
on winning their division on this on this year, they would surprise absolutely nobody. But the
bigger point that I do want to make is this is that, you know, this game, it told me a lot in terms
of the all season acquisitions and signings at the Carolina made. Nicolai Euler's and Karen
Dre Miller, they both have multi point games in this one. Karen Dre Miller had three points,
law assist, Nicolai Euler's. He had a goal and assist two points in this game as well. And it was
just absolutely remarkable to see how Carolina just after they fell behind one nothing, Zach
Hyman doing what Zach Hyman typically does scoring, scoring in bunches, 26 goal of the year,
it was three unanswered goals by Carolina, Ghost of Spear Euler's and Martin, I basically
intersection. And ultimately, one thing that I did, I did like, especially after a period was
Carolina said, we were going to hunker down and we're going to, you know, like really turn
off the heat against this Edvinstein team that has times shown leakage defensively. And they did
exactly just that. And ultimately, they were able to withstand a furious comeback by the Euler's,
Zach Hyman's second goal of the game, you know, made it for three Carolina. Carolina said,
like I mentioned, they were not going to allow Edvinstein to be able to, like,
pin them in their own in and it's had enough of this enough, but we're going to put this
game away. And they did exactly just that. Unfortunately, more injury news, you mentioned Shane
Ghost of Spear, he did get his 11th goal of the year, but he also left with a lower body injury,
didn't return. Yeah. After the game, a head coach, Rod Brindemore said he didn't have an
update, but Shane Ghost of Spear could be missing some time for Carolina. Let us head down to
Southern California where the Anaheim Ducks were hosting the Montreal Canadiens. Canadiens came in,
holding the number one wildcard spot in the east, while the Ducks came in in second in the Pacific,
which is one point back of Vegas. This one had a little bit of everything in the end, a six five
shootout win. For the Ducks, let's get a report on this one from the host of Lockdown Anaheim Ducks,
it's Kyle Carr. Back in fourth game, the Anaheim Ducks finally come away with the win in the shootout,
which even the shootout went back in fourth. This was an up and down game between the Ducks and
the Montreal Canadiens, but overall Anaheim does come away with the W super, super good,
weighed ahead in the weekend, and now we've got the John Carlson edition coming into Orange
County this weekend. Chris Criter getting the first start of the game going out there with the
crazy mask. He had an excellent game this evening, four points, three assists, getting the game
tying goal and then getting out there on the shootout, unfortunately didn't score on the shootout,
but Alex Clawen ends up being the winner in the shootout and Lukas Stostal comes up with the
last save and just a great and exciting game by this team looking forward to having John Carlson
as well fly together. All right, thanks to Kyle Carr. For that, yeah, this was a wild game. You
had Cole Coffield scoring a couple of goals from Montreal, numbers 36 and 37 on the season,
but 40.8 seconds left, goalie pulled, Jacob Drew with a shot, Chris Criter, as he has done so
well throughout his career, a deflection in front of the net. That tied in and then as he mentioned,
Anaheim unbeaten in shootouts this year. They're now 8 and 0 in the shootout with that victory.
The Ducks have 19 come from behind wins this season tied with the Montreal Canadiens,
for the most in the NHL so appropriate, these two would have a back and forth game. With that win,
the Anaheim Ducks are now sitting atop the Pacific Division. They are one point up on the
biggest goal of the nights. And the Ducks can continue to keep flying. They have 17 of 8 and
and part of what are the rest of the success recently has been, you know, like the goal scoring
that has come in bunches for this team, especially on a night night tonight where punches were thrown,
not literally, but in terms of back and forth scoring between Montreal and Anaheim. And Chris
Criter had himself quite the night, a 4.9 at that, a goal and three assists. And you know,
like one of the things that that has been impressive about Chris Criter in particular is the fact that
even at the stage of career, he still maintains himself as being one of the best goal scorers when
he's in front of the netminder, opposing teams that minder, being a good big body in front. And
you saw that on that sequence in which that, you know, like Anaheim was able to, you know,
to tie it up. And I think that, I think that that is an incredible weapon to have, especially
late in the game, especially for the two seconds left in regulation on the top of the game at 5.5.
So when you talk about Anaheim and you talk about what has, what has been absolutely fun to watch
is seeing like some, like some of the younger guys like Cutter Gautier, you know, Lear Corson,
especially with the bus surrounding John Carson coming to Anaheim. Yeah, like, I mean,
it was clear that those guys had a lot of, a lot of extra juice tonight. And the Canadians,
I mean, like they, they really brought her tonight in terms of the, the offense, call
off. What a, what a year he's having. He's going to end up scoring 40 goals. I'm willing to book
it right here right now. And then ultimately, um, you know, like they, they, like see them score
three goals in a, in a 423 span. That was like pretty impressive. But however, the shootout,
that shootout was absolutely insane. And the Dutch were just able to capitalize ultimately
on the opportunities that they were given. For Montreal, they stay in that number one wildcard spot.
They also stay one point behind Detroit in the battle for third in the Atlantic division.
Speaking of Detroit, they suffer a loss in more ways than one details coming up next on Lockdown

We add the Detroit Red Wings hosting the Florida Panthers Detroit coming in in third place in
the Atlantic division. This one though was the Matthew Kachak show he would score all three Florida
goals for the hat trick goals six seven and eight on the year his sixth hat trick of his career
and the Panthers would skate off with a three one victory. So again the broski did not get
moved to the trade deadline. He allowed one goal on 29 shots for Detroit their lone goal came from
Alex to bring it on the power play his 33rd of the year. But more importantly for Detroit their
star Dylan Larkin left in the third period his knee buckle as he was taking a shot did not look good.
It was a non-contact injury just maybe his skate caught a rut in the ice or he was just an awkward
situation but did not look good don't have any report on this but you know if you're just going
by the eye test it looks like Dylan Larkin could be out for a while obviously a very important
player for the Red Wings and of course you do it after the deadline now if it is something serious
Detroit can't do anything to address it so fingers crossed he's okay but that's the worry right
now for Detroit what is this status of Dylan Larkin. Red Wings don't get any ground on Tampa Bay
or Buffalo obviously and there's still three points back of both of those teams and still one
point up on Montreal for third and the Atlantic. I hope that Dylan Larkin is going to be okay
and that this isn't a significant long-term injury where he's going to miss it and if it can
amount of time because if it is this is a real stinker there's just no other way around it and
you know like I mean I like to bring it who has been absolutely marvelous the season 33 goals
now on a year but that was a real downpour in Detroit tonight but Dylan Larkin going down
with the injury but as far as the Panthers are concerned this was huge to see Matthew Kuchuk
you know have the hat trick that he had tonight and a game in which that it was critical for them
to win and as well as Babarowski making making 28 say so far but the concern for the Red Wings now
is the fact that they have now lost seven out of the last ten games and and you're wondering yes
they're still in play opposition right now with this injury to Larkin like does this no not now
lead to a full blown nose dive in Detroit you hope that it does if you're a Red Wings fan
but it is certainly a one of great concern in the motor city as far as the Panthers are concerned
um you know it was great to see Kuchuk have a a hat trick tonight and we'll see what happens moving
forward if the if the Panthers a two-time defendants panic of champs can build off of this some important
win in in Detroit tonight they're done I told you they're done I still think they're done too
but let's see was you've seen crazier things happen you know you never know I'm gonna say they're
done uh the San Jose sharks were hosting the St. Louis Blues of course it's a blues team that
made some moves to the deadline as sellers maybe not as many as some people thought they would
but it was the sharks coming in three points back a Seattle for that last wildcard spot in the west
and it would be St. Louis getting the win now keeper sure would did tie it up in the third period
sent it into overtime but in the overtime it was Robert Thomas the player that a lot of people
thought might be moved he was able to score look like he might have kicked it in they looked at it
but I ruled it a good goal and St. Louis for the first time this season gets an overtime win they
were over six and overtime games on the season finally get that first overtime win three two is the
final let's get a report on this one though from the host of locked on San Jose sharks JD Young
an absolute disaster of a game from the San Jose sharks as they lose three to two in overtime
to the St. Louis Blues the Blues had five defensemen five defensemen in this game as they were
so sure handed from the trade deadline and these sharks put up a disaster class performance
just unserious hockey all the way around constantly shooting themselves in the foot bad turnovers
especially in overtime and the sharks can't take care of business on a night where you got some
help in the standings as they still remain outside the playoff picture all right thanks to JD Young
for that they did pick up a point so the sharks now two points back a Seattle for that last wild
car spawn the West but to JD's point it was a shorthanded Blues team it was a Blues team that is
certainly out of it that's two points that San Jose needs to get they got one but we'll see if
that ends up cost them at some point but you can't let those opportunities slip by they unfortunately
in this one yeah and this was an opportunity lost like for sure especially considering
when one key for a sure word scored the game time goal in that third period and you have an
opportunity for sharks like to capitalize and get the win over time but unfortunately some guy
named Robert Thomas like pretty much told the show and wished that he had to get the two goals
the first goal that he scored was back in the second period that that gave the Blues a two-to-one
lead at the time and I just think that you know like if you're San Jose man and I watch a little bit
of the post game like after the game concluding you you can actually hear it in the voices of
of the broadcast team that they didn't knew that this was an opportunity that was lost by the sharks
and I hopefully doesn't come out to bite them at some point during this final stretch of the
regular season but but but if you're the sharks all you can do is learn from this game and move
forward because this was an opportunity to also get that second point that they desperately need
and last and least was the Chicago Blackhawks hosting the Vancouver Connucks
a battle of two teams that have no postseason aspirations this year Connucks were looking to snap a
seven game skid and they would with a six three victory two teams combined for five goals in the
first period three for Vancouver two for Chicago we were tied three three going to the third
and then the Connucks would outscore the Hawks three nothing in the third period Brock Besser
out of pair of goals numbers 15 at 16 one of on the power play one into an empty net so at least
Vancouver snaps their seven game skid. I mean congratulations of the Connucks on snapping their
seven game losing streak it didn't look pretty to start the game Ryan DeNato like getting things
started like a little more than a minute into the into the first period but pretty much after
that point it was all Connucks where they just turned on the jets and say hey here we go and and
like you know like you know Drew Conner Jack DeBrusque at as well as Teddy Bluger as well like scoring
to pretty much you know put the Connucks in and firmly in the driver's seat but even though
Chicago did come at the time um Mikaia with the 12th of the year in the Zara with this 8th of the year
in that second period the tie up at three on Vancouver said like we're not losing this game and
we're not going to lose the period any any pretty much like dominated on that that their period on
in Chicago tonight so I'm good for the Connucks on for losing their on losing streak tonight.
