Usually pretty quickly.
Sometimes we're a little bit slow on the uptake.
I sometimes forget to check them.
But for the most part,
we're pretty good about getting to them.
And remind you that this show is also available

I'm Alex Wiederspill.
I'm a play by play primarily in the college
in high school hockey scene.
I write about hockey for a website called Yard Barker
and I host a sports radio show
in the hockey capital of America, West Virginia.
TJ Shalot is here with me tonight
professional hockey play by play most recently
in the A.H.L.
TJ, what's up, man?
Well, we didn't have 15 games tonight.
So there was a little bit.
My neck feels a little bit better.
I wasn't doing, you know,
the whole follow the screen thing
and 15 screens go.
And so it was a little easier tonight.
Yes.
Other than the fact that the games were on simultaneously
though, I will say.
And I did forget about this when I was complaining
about this to you off air last night.
The TNT game always is going to start a little bit later
than than 730.
So it was actually running a little behind
and it went into overtime.
So the two games were reasonably well staggered
as it turned out, which was,
which made for a pretty pleasant viewing experience.
I have a, you know, flat screen up here in my office.
I was watching the Boston Buffalo game on that,
had the Ranger Toronto on my computer monitor here.
And again, just has me super excited.
Because both these games were actually pretty good tonight.
Has me super excited for playoff hockey
because this is a good way to watch two games
right in front of us.
We're going to get into both of them.
But we are going to spend our first segment on Boston
and Buffalo because without question,
we knew going into tonight didn't matter what the outcome was.
One of these teams could have won eight nothing.
This would have been the top story of the night.
And of course, a big part of that because Boston
came out of last night,
one of the more embarrassing losses you're going to see
losing to the aforementioned Toronto team,
losing at home and losing in regulation
when they're in the thick of a historic playoff race
in the Eastern Conference.
And they nearly let this one get away from them.
But they win this one in overtime for three goals tonight.
David Pasternak, three point night for him.
He scored first to open things up.
Buffalo then responded.
Jason Zuckerwood score.
He scored twice tonight.
Victor Arvinson got his 20th.
Great pick up there for the Bruins.
Zach Benson scored his 10th to tie things up at two
in the third.
Jason Zuckerwood come right back.
Right after that, it was a crazy sequence.
A little scrum after the Benson goal that led to Zucker
scoring his second power play goal of the night.
And then a wild bounce off of a shot from John
of the Nassbro leads to Casey Middlestad firing one home.
His 14th of the year forces overtime.
Pablo Zaka in the midst of a terrific year.
He's up to, I believe, 54 points now on the season
had a multi-point night tonight.
He gets the O.T. winner off of David Pasternak's
61st assist to the season.
Charlie McAvoy's 45th assist to the season.
Whoo.
It was a lot of fun.
This was a back and forth game.
The pace was intense.
This felt like playoff hockey.
Boston gets the win for three.
Buffalo.
No one's going to cry for the sabers right now.
They are 12 one and two since the Olympic break ended.
12 one and two.
And the only regulation loss was by one goal.
That's how good the sabers have been.
Someone should let Boston keep this puck.
But that was a very desperately needed two points for the Bruins DJ.
Yeah, it was.
It helps pull them into a tie for third place in the Metro now with Montreal,
which again,
they could be in a better spot if they didn't drop last night's game to Chicago.
But that just kind of showed you the resiliency of this Bruins team bouncing back
on a back to back night and then going from a Chicago team and having to take on a Buffalo team
that these are two squads are entirely different ends of the spectrum in terms of their talent
and level of play.
It's sometimes hard to make that quick adjustment when you play a bottom dweller one night
and then immediately have to turn around and take on one of the top teams in the eastern conference
and the NHL in that regard the very next night.
But they absolutely did it.
And when you look at these two teams the way they played the game tonight,
what I think made it so interesting was the fact that Boston was playing with a desperation
that they absolutely didn't have last night.
And it seems like they found it on the plane trip over into New York.
So they figured out we have to play a little bit more desperate.
On the other side, the Sabers, they were not nearly as desperate nor should they be.
But you can see that their talent is just unbelievable.
I think to that zucker goal where he just, you know, picks it off the shorthanded goal that he had
where he just picks it off and the blue line walks in and scores.
I mean, it's just their talent right now is so unbelievably hard to beat.
And they'll be happy getting this point because now they're tied with Carolina top of the east
with 96 points on the year.
So they'll be very happy to get the point.
And I think that's what made this game so good.
You have two teams that are talented one more so than the other two teams that are fighting for playoff spots
or at least fighting for playoff seating one more desperate than the other.
And it just it translated to a fun game.
Jason Zucker has long been a player that I've been a huge fan of his game.
And he has just been able to do this essentially everywhere he goes.
Be sort of the perfect ideal middle six contributor.
And on top of it, he has the type of game breaking speed that you don't see out of a lot of forwards.
His age dude can still move.
And even then you oftentimes you see a lot of it's almost gimmicky with a guy's legs zucker where.
In fact, I could think of another player on Buffalo back malenstein who is it just one of the.
He's one of the just dynamic skaters in all the NHL but didn't really have the offense to add to his game.
He's a hitter who can skate he is essentially.
He's another branded tenev if you will that's his game right zucker has a lot more dynamic qualities to his game.
And I think boy does that help this this Buffalo team we're going to get into the Buffalo makeup.
A little bit later on in the show in our essay question segment because I think they are absolutely fascinating.
One question I want to pose to you about Buffalo.
We spent a lot of time talking about Boston here in the first part of this segment.
So they are three points up on Tampa, but Tampa has two games in hand.
And I'm going to bring up the remaining schedule strength here for the rest of the way.
Tampa has the sixth hardest remaining strength of schedule which does include a game against the Buffalo sabers.
Buffalo is very middle of the pack.
They are 17th is essentially you could call them the median if you will.
Because Buffalo and Florida are separated by one one thousandth of a point in terms of schedule strength.
So they're essentially the dead middle of schedule strength difficulty remaining.
Can Tampa catch Buffalo at this point knowing that yeah, they're three points back, but they've got two games in hand and one of them is against the sabers.
Yeah, I think so.
And I also think that strength of schedule, especially at the end of the season is something that you have to take with a grain of salt.
Especially once teams start clinching their offenses are going to get a little bit more vanilla their defensive structures are going to get a little bit more vanilla as well.
Just because they don't want to show too much for the playoffs.
I don't want to say they're necessarily going to be resting guys, but there might be some subtle resting.
You know, a guy that's pulling in 21 minutes a game might slip down to maybe 15 16 just to, you know, make sure that he stays healthy.
So that strength the schedule at the end of the year is always questionable because you have a harder strength the schedule.
That means you're going to be playing teams that are going to be in the playoffs with likely clinched and they're going to change their style ever so slightly as they get set ready to go for the actual playoff push.
So I do think having those games in hand one of them against Buffalo that absolutely can swing in favor of Tampa Bay.
This very well could be the playoff series though if Buffalo is unable to catch Carolina who while they are currently tied in points Carolina has a game in hand on the sabers.
If Buffalo winds up staying in this spot Boston currently by points percentage has the first wild card spot.
So this would be the series and I think we would all take however many of these we were granted and I think I have a sneaking suspicion.
And this one would go at least six based on what we saw this evening.
I would I would I would be thrilled if we got this again.
Oh, yeah, me too.
This is one of those I think it would go six maybe even seven.
And I would think Buffalo would come out if they're still playing the same way that they've been playing since December basically.
But it's one of those things where you just get two teams that are gritty and they know how to score.
And you got more dynamic playmakers I think on the side of the sabers than what we're seeing out of Boston these days.
But the sabers and their goaltending, you know, UPL has been great all year but that's a question.
You know can Boston figure that out I think in a playoff series.
This becomes a chess match where punches will be thrown.
And that's what kind of fun that's going to bring it's going to be cerebral, but it's also going to be very brute.
Also good for Boston to get a win on any time they can get a win when the backup goalie is starting.
That's always a plus a corporate solo on the season 12 9 and 4 now just fine.
That's that's you will take that from your number two goalie if Jeremy Swaman is having a solid season.
So UPL falls to 17 9 and 2 he's obviously been battling injuries.
They played a three goalie rotation at times.
So he has not had a ton of action.
He should be pretty well rested going into the playoffs.
We'll get more into that.
I'm sure coming up in the coming weeks.
All right.
The Rangers and Maple Leafs.
We're going to get into that on the other side of this break.
This was a game that in my opinion, both fan bases can actually walk away pretty reasonably happy with how this one went.
And I say that even if you're a Leafs fan who thinks the team just needs to tank,
we'll explain why on the other side of this break here on locked on NHL game night.

Maple Leafs and Rangers final score in this one for three Toronto takes it in regulation though the Rangers pressed at the end of this game after falling behind three nothing.
They came back and made a game of this one.
Now let's start with David Moore City of Lockdown Toronto Maple Leafs with the first word on the Leafs and Rangers.
Is this the end for the Toronto Maple Leafs tank.
I'm David Moore City from the Lockdown Leafs podcast a four three victory over the New York Rangers not only put the Rangers out of playoff contention, but it might have put the leaves out of the possibility to get down to the bottom five the drive for the bottom five.
When talking about this last few weeks doesn't look like these are the games that you couldn't unfortunately get points and if you want to get yourselves down into the standing as a Leafs now find themselves kind of in that mushy middle that you don't want to be.
Because now if they don't get down to the bottom five that pick goes to the Boston Bruins big reason why Joseph wall huge huge game for Joseph wall.
He was stellar in this one yes the Rangers did try to come back from being down three nothing but it was Joseph wall who essentially said no not really allow you in an opportunity to get back in this game for these days for him at least we're really out shot in this game the only reason why they won this game is Joseph wall for big honest here.
And yeah that might put them in a really tough position might this stuff when I will discuss what this victory for these dust for their tank opportunities.
Do they maybe go down a different road what does this mean for the rest of the season make sure you tune into locked on these podcasts will break it all down there make sure you go wherever you get your podcast from so make sure you keep locked right here on locked on leaves.
I am the ultimate don't let the shots dictate the narrative of sort of the game guy like I they can be deceptive the Rangers it's not like this was a score effects game where they were trying to pile up shots late in the game they led from the jump and there was clearly a message in the room after their nasty 10 shot performance Monday against Ottawa clearly a message from from up top that hey you guys have got to do more to create some offense and Joseph wall played a great game to his credit and Egor
and had one of the few does he's had all season particularly since the flip of the calendar Shasturkin has been really really good since coming back from injury I should say more accurately only played one game after the calendar flipped and got hurt in the second game.
But he was he wasn't good tonight there's no getting around it he let in three that I think he'd want all three of them back the first one was sort of a net front like mess just a sloppy greasy goal for Toronto that was a nice play there Jake McCabe scored that one Nick Robertson with a
goal Dakota Joshua John Tavares with goals Laugh for a year scores twice he picks up three points his second career 50 point season so nice second half the season for Laugh
for a year he's really picked it up particularly since the calendar flipped as well Mika's a bandage ad scored twice including a filthy backhand or to make it 4-3 and the Rangers pushed late but this this did feel in some ways like the ultimate tank game T.J.
because obviously for Ranger fans at this point you you knew that you were one loss of any kind away from elimination so you know you're not making it to the postseason you're done the white flag had been waived back in January when Christopher acknowledged that hey we're too banged up to compete right now they went you know one and 11 without Adam Fox and Egor Shasturkin after they both got hurt.
I I think what's interesting here though is for Toronto I actually would not want to tank right now because if Toronto winds up with that top five pick that they so desperately want their next two first round picks will be unprotected and owned by one an arch rival in Boston and to a conference opponent in Philadelphia I think I would rather take my medicine this year if I'm Toronto.
yeah absolutely just just swallow the pill just take it right now and and see what happens and obviously you know if you're the New York Ranger fans out there you knew this is coming you're eliminated you can now get over that if i'm a Rangers fan I want to see this team now knowing that they're mathematically eliminated play that way in the sense that I want to see some of the younger guys get a little bit more ice time if we're really in this retooling phase I want to see them use these final games down the stretch here.
To evaluate and make sure that players are given every opportunity to show what they can do and you know see how that plays into off season moves who's sticking around who's going away on the other side for Toronto if you're Joseph wall.
He needs to have a conversation with his team he bailed them out big in this one that we talked about that already 40 43 but let's go back to his last five games here's the shots against in all five of those games.
43 tonight 44 against Ottawa the other night 36 34 and 33 wow that's a lot of shots in five games i'm not a mathematician but when you're averaging somewhere around the 38 shots against per game figure it out in front of me and we're going to talk a little bit more you know coming up about the Maple Leafs and stuff but.
The defense just has to it's got to be a lot better they're lucky that they pulled this one out with what New York was throwing at them on the other side for Shusterkin yes it was definitely a dud that first goal I don't really blame him too much I mean I was watching a few times on replay I kept rewinding it and you'll just look around there's five white sweaters probably within about a.
Five or six foot radius in front of Shusterkin one of them his own defense when his barrel the right back into them they just look like they were chickens with their heads cut off chasing after that and McCabe had a wide open net as Shusterkin was down so I don't fault them there but the other ones you know he had one go five hole maybe it's lit under the pad not quite directly between the legs but you know that should have been stopped there is another long range snipe that he just wasn't square to the shooter along the boards and you just had a rough.
Off night but he played well enough to keep him in it was still a one goal game but yeah in this case if you're New York fans you're not happy that you know that everything is now officially official but at the same time okay now it's time to see some guys.
Step up to the plate show what they can do and see if they deserve to be here next year or if they deserve to be on an NHL contractor if they should be in Hartford or whatever it might be.
John Chick of locked on New York Rangers will get the final word on this game and then we're going to talk a little bit more about Toronto so hold tight.
You know this has been such a rough season for the Rangers and the bar is set just so astronomically low right now that it gets to a point where games like tonight honestly don't really feel that bad I mean they lost.
Again because that's what they do but they lose four to three.
In Toronto to the Leafs.
But there were some positives you can take.
Alright we're having some issues with the video so we'll leave it there but I think I think John's point was was well made I think we we know where he was going with that let's talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs so the other night when we had just the Rangers and senators we played a little game called external internal and the goal was we each would pick one side.
What would be the thing that we would do if you and I were GM's something externally and something internally to improve the team we did it for New York we did it for Ottawa obviously the New York was a bigger ask than Ottawa with Ottawa sort of it was a rent for both of us it was hey this is what they can do to improve on the margins for New York it was hey they need like major improvements for Toronto it's sort of a weird in between because they've been so bad.
But they also are missing their best player Austin Matthews who has been banged up seemingly the last two seasons still the great producer even when he's not banged up so I I have sort of an external idea that that that's that sneaks a little bit into the internal side as well.
But if I were the Toronto Maple Leafs I'm hiring Peter Lovielet I'm firing Barube and I'm hiring Peter Lovielet because I don't know that there's a single coach outside of maybe Pete to bore and certainly if he's willing to do it do it but I don't know if there's a single coach who's better at getting the one year turnaround then Peter Lovielet he did everywhere he goes the rate of return is usually not strong after the second year but that first year look at what he's done his last couple of stops whether it be
New York whether it be Washington whether it be Nashville the first years usually really really good so I would bring in Peter Lovielet because right now the most important thing Toronto can do is be good next year they they they cannot afford to even let's say the Rangers want to take like a strategic step back and they might not be good next year Toronto can't afford that not with Austin Matthews essentially on the clock.
No I agree with you and here is one thing that we agree on is that Barube needs to go I just don't think that he's been with the core talent that they have they're not utilized properly at all I think that's one of the reasons why Austin Matthews is hurt is he's consistently being asked to play a style of play that he is not necessarily made for he's just that good that he's still able to be effective even though he's you know kind of being held back a little bit because of the system and because of the
way things are run. Barube is gone. Here's where I disagree and I have this written down avoid another retread they don't need a retread coach what they need is they need someone to revitalize this team someone with fresh ideas someone with new ideas so someone out of the college ranks someone out of the American hockey league maybe a first time head coach someone who's been an assistant coach in the NHL for a little while who has been under one of those veterans but don't I would not go with a Lovielet because what I don't think this is going to be good.
I think that the team needs is a one year turnaround they have a good core Matthews to Varys nice kneelander and I'm not saying that they're all going to be there next year because I do think they have a good solid enough core that they might be able to trade one of those pieces for a goalie or a defense minute one point but you know they have a lot of expiring contracts coming up that they can just say no to they can open up some some cap space and maybe make a move but what they need is they just need some fresh blood and I don't think retreading and I don't think
a hard-nosed guy like a Lovielet is going to work they need someone that's a little bit more innovative and a little more fresh. Yeah Lovielet runs the hardest practices in the league as I've come to understand it which is probably why it's usually a one or two year bounce and then he's got to go.
The one name that comes to mind is David Carl and I we could spend a lot of time talking about that but I think we're going to spend a little time talking about it in the next segment so we'll leave it there we'll be right back with a premiere of a new segment I'm calling essay questions it was basically random stuff bouncing around my head that I turned into some essay questions TJ cleaned up a little bit we're going to ask each other these these theoretical essay questions and we'll see on the AP scale will be a one two three four five or a level of response.
No I'm kidding we're not creating each other on this show all answers are valid here unlocked on NHL game that we're back right after this.

questions we're each going to ask the other two questions and we'll each provide two answers so starting off
TJ I wonder if we are seeing and I've talked about this before in a different context but a similar paradigm shift and this happens every
few years the NHL kind of runs in cycles where are we shifting back from heavy hockey more towards speed while it is true
that no team can win without some combination of speed pace and heaviness in their game usually you can tell a team's
preferred identity the last three cup winners they've been heavier teams that play with some pace and speed rather than the other way
around Colorado was probably the last true speed team granted they can also play heavy when they need to the sabers though have been described
recently as playing river hockey but is that just because we're on a custom to seeing someone playing so much like
Colorado or New Jersey at the height of their powers out of the eastern conference so essentially the question is is
Buffalo playing with the type of speed and pace that we expect of cup winners or are they playing river hockey
well I think this is that age old debate you know where they say defense wins championships it's like for sure but no matter what the sport is
you still need offense to score because if you don't put up any points on the board no matter how good your defense is you can't physically win right so
it's one of those things that yes I do think the game is going a lot faster and I think there is one person who is responsible for that and his name is
Connor McDavid because ever since then when you look at some of the blue chip talent that has come into this league the
Jack Hughes the Maclin Celebrini's the Conor Bedard's even Gavin McKenna who most people think is going to be the number one
overall pick coming up in this year's draft they're smaller guys they're you know not these perfect specimen human beings at
six foot four they're fast they have great hands teams are finding ways to utilize that talent more during the 60 minute regulation
period and then oh by the way if we go three on three that's just an ace in the hole to have someone that fast even a
guy like a Jason Robertson another perfect candidate smaller guy and when I say small I'm not saying he's five foot six but
you know comparatively speaking he's fast they've got hands teams have figured out how to use those speedsters
and the same thing could be said for Buffalo but there will always be champions that are going to be those heavy
hitters because at the end of the day all you need to do is stop the offense one more time then they stop you and
you get the win one quick note on Buffalo by the way they did make up a clear case to try and get heavier by
adding guys like Logan Stanley Sam Carrick and Luke Shen obviously this is something that every team
values you have to be able to do both but as far as identity goes the sabers seem more like the Colorado
avalanche in the way they're built with guys like again Ryan McLeod aged Thompson these are unbelievable skaters
back Valentine some of the best in the NHL
So let's talk about Toronto then obviously we just kind of touch on it a little bit
but we both kind of agree that Craig Barubi is probably on his way out or is likely on his way out
there might even be a GM change there as well you know but we talked a little bit about Lavia
let in Toronto who do you think is you know what coach even makes sense in Toronto outside of you
know who we already brought up especially you know depending on what kind of rebuild they want to have
if they're going to rebuild or are they going to retool who do you think is the coach
well so let's premise this with a couple of things that obviously I think Toronto's main goal is to keep Austin Matthews
around Chris Johnston of the athletic did report sort of more speculatory than reporting but I think he implied
that it is not outside of the realm it's a non zero chance essentially that we have already seen the last game
of Austin Matthews Toronto career I still think he likely winds up as a leaf next season but that's worth noting
so here's my thing on Lavia let and here's why I think David Carl could work as well
I think it's going to be very difficult to convince someone like Pete De Boer to come and take this job knowing that
you're under a one year bell jar essentially where it's if we don't figure this out right now
the best player probably is going to want out and you're basically the new Mike Sullivan because I don't think for one second
there are a bunch of really good coaches around the NHL who aren't watching Mike Sullivan
purposefully left Pittsburgh because he didn't want to be a part of a rebuild and now as part of a
retool in New York I think they're all pretty much looking that and going oh God I don't want that to be me
so that's why I think the whole Peter Lavia let idea at least gives them a little bit of breathing room
in the Austin Matthews conversation now the reason David Carl might potentially work there is because
you could say to David Carl the same thing that Pittsburgh said to Kyle Dubas when they hired him
we know that at day's end you're not here for a one year quick fix
so either you fix this and it works or we decide hey this isn't fixable the way it is
and then we give you carte blanche to do whatever you need to do to remake this in your image
because you're a first time head coach that I could see that in Toronto certainly has the budget
to price someone like David Carl who has basically said any team that hires me
it's going to have to be the price is going to have to be right because I'm pretty comfortable where I am
and my family is comfortable where I am so that's sort of my thought on Toronto
is that they have got to create some runway they are they're backs are up against the wall right now
because the last thing that you want is to get bent over backwards on an Austin Matthews trade
where you don't have the type of leverage that you want in that deal
because if Matthews comes out and says I'm only going to New York or I'm only going to Vegas
or I'm only going to Utah you can kiss premium assets good bye.
Yeah I agree and David Carl is one heck of a coach I personally know a few players that played underneath them in Denver
and he is exactly kind of the guy that I was thinking about when I was you know talking about it last segment
he's that younger innovative guy that is not afraid to be hard knows at all
but he certainly knows how to put his players in the right position
if it's an offensively minded defenseman he uses them that way
he doesn't you know pair him up with another offensively minded defenseman and all of a sudden
you don't have much of a back end he's smart he plays with speed you know when we talk about these teams getting a little bit smaller
and playing that river style of hockey I think David Carl will be a really good solid choice if they can afford it.
Yeah Denver one of the teams that always seems to be somehow elite on both sides of the puck
better defensively maybe but they don't sacrifice offense as you pointed out they will let guys play to their strengths
amazing offensive talent particularly on that blue line come out of Denver
let's talk about the Bruins so this ones for you the Bruins have proved
whether they make the playoffs or not that a quick retool is possible especially without a true number one center
which they do not have when you still have elite talent at other positions
do you buy that the Bruins can be competitive again next season
or are they about to start the yo yo process of being sort of a mushy middle team
they're in one year they're out another the Bruins right now to me look like a Jenga tower
because they could absolutely be competitive again next year with what they have and whatever minor changes they make in the off season
but at the same time if one thing goes wrong that whole towers coming down
if Swamen doesn't play well next year that whole towers coming down
if all of a sudden you know pasta knock or McAvoy having uncharacteristically bad season
that whole towers coming down they had a lot of good success you know with some of their youngsters
like Mason low rise kind of coming up was that you know just that that rookie phenom type
one hit wonder stuff does he go into a sophomore slump you know any of those things could happen
and if they all happen together or if one of the bigger pieces is pulled that whole towers coming down
so I do kind of see them being a mushy middle team over the next three or four years
because I just they don't have that number one center pasta knocks get not getting any younger
their younger players are okay and you know it's kind of starting to prove it
but they have a lot to still prove before they can solidify who they really are in this league
so I do see them as being you know one of those bubble teams every year for the next two or three years
they get in that probably wouldn't surprise me but it would be a low seed
you know they don't get in you know it's it's probably not going to surprise me either
it would really help dean latorno and james haggins their last two first round picks
both excelled in the NCAA would be very very useful if one or both of them would become top six centers
yes a hundred percent and on the other side speaking of retooling
do you buy that the rangers you know that they insist that this is a retool and not a complete rebuild
is there actually any real debt what do you think is there a difference between a retool and a rebuild
and do you think that's what's happening or is this a farce
so I actually do buy the line and the reason for that is injuries letter
which I generally don't like the release of letters anyway I think they're PR nonsense for fans
but I will say that he commented on their injury situation which at the time was fox and shesterkin had missed a combined like 13 games
the team went one in 12 in those 13 games and they were awful some of the worst ranger hockey I have ever watched in my life
and they were very very bad without those two players so I do think there is a thought process here that
hey you know yeah we're not very good we were only a middle of the road middling team that was going to labor our way
to probably being like the 11th best team in the conference if those guys played a full season
but we also know that we're not as bad as if you take the two best players off of any team
you're probably going to have a pretty rough go for however long of a stretch that is
I also think that Chris drury has made two signature moves that right now have not worked out
and they both indicate not being able to go into a rebuild one of them is JT Miller
we talked about that two nights ago and how important he is for the for the rangers to turn things around next year
the other is Mike Sullivan I just don't see any world where Mike Sullivan is signing off on saying we're going to take a strategic step back
next season I think Mike Sullivan is saying do whatever you got to do with the roster but I'm coaching to win
when you put it all together next season which makes me think that the rangers are a wild card in what could happen
this obviously isn't especially with a lot of cast base so I do buy that it's a retool whether it works or not
that's where the skepticism belongs 100% I agree with you too I do think it's going to be a retool
I'm not saying that that's necessarily what they need it might be time for a true rebuild some would say
but I do think it's going to be a retool they're not going to do too much to shake things up
