The wild card race has continued to heat up in the east and the west.
The sharks get a big win.
A May beliefs comeback win was marred by a cheap shot on a star player and the response
by his team.
The tails on that and more on this edition of Lockdown NHL Games.

And together we come together to discuss the latest goals, saves and highlights from
each game across the national hockey league and tonight.
We have 14 games, 14 games in total that we're going to dive into in just a moment.
We're going to start though with teams that are either trying to hold on to or grab one
of the final wild card spots in both the east and the west and the Columbus Blue Jaggets
have been in pursuit of a wild card spot ever since they made a coaching change.
They were in Florida taking on the defending champion Panthers.
Only two goals scored in regulation in this one, Adam Phantilly his 19th for the Blue Jaggets
Sam Bennett on the power play is 24th for Florida.
This one would be decided in overtime with Sam Reinhardt getting the game winner on the
power play.
Blue Jaggets are not happy about a tripping call.
Adam Phantilly on Matthew could chuck on a breakaway that led to that power play.
And the Panthers get a two on victory, Sergei Dubrovsky won goal out on 31 shots.
Now Columbus still riding an eight game point streak, which is a season high.
They're 14, two and four under Rick bonus, and they are a little bit closer finally getting
into one of those wild card spots, which is huge because we are now at the point of
the regular season where every point matters.
You probably heard me say this very recently about a week or so ago, but now we're just
a smidge of a month left of the regular season.
This is a finale is April 16th in NHL.
Every point matters and for the close Blue Jaggets, you got to get every point you possibly
can.
This was a big one for them to get tonight, but even a big one for the Panthers who are
just hanging off for their life at this point in time in the regular season.
So Columbus, you know, they grabbed the one point, they do lose obviously in OT, with
a heartbreaking loss, you know, Sam Reinhardt with the own game winning power play goal
to 20 of overtime, you know, then now they got a move out to end the page and move on.
Shoot.
I told you the Panthers are done.
I told you that they're close.
They are done.
They are done.
They are done.
We got to keep fighting.
The Blue Jaggets though looking to move closer, but with the Boston Bruins lose to help
them out.
They were hosting the San Jose Sharks, Bruins holding that two point lead on Columbus
entering the day in the wild card and writing a 13 game home ice winning streak.
They were taken on a Sharks team that was two points back at Seattle and looking to
grab the final wild card spot in the West.
Darks pull out a big four to win.
Let's get a report from the host of Lockdown San Jose Sharks, JD Young.
William Eclan has the goal of the year as the San Jose Sharks beat the Boston Bruins
four to two.
Eclan, who had been in a major scoring slump breaks out with one of the prettiest
goals you'll see all based off of just hard work and determination.
He's again, the Sharks been four to two.
They also got contributions from Colin Graff on a short-handed and Alex Nadell Kovic, who
is absolutely outstanding tonight for the San Jose Sharks.
The Sharks get two big points in Boston to keep themselves in the playoff race.
All right.
Thanks, JD Young for that.
That William Eclan goal is certainly one of the goals of the year.
If you didn't see it, he beats Andrew Peak one on one.
Goes on the goal.
He gets a shot in from close.
The rebound is in the air.
And as he's diving almost fading away from the net, he bats it in with his stick.
Bobby or Esk, it was actually probably a better goal than Bobby or I know that picture
is legendary.
Bobby or flying through the air, but that goal was better than Bobby or his goal.
Sorry.
It's the truth.
And what a great goal, though, but bigger picture for the Bruins, the 13-game home ice
streak ends.
So their lead on Columbus is down to one point, but they're still holding on to it.
For San Jose, they moved past the adult there in a wildcard spot in the West.
So a huge game with implications on both the wildcard and the East and the West.
I'm going to have Amnesia and pretend you didn't just say that.
Don't deny it.
It is absolutely not the truth.
I know what you're trying to do.
You're trying to give me to have a crash out because I know we're approaching the one
you're anniversary about first show working together.
True story.
However, I'm not going to crash out here or there.
But what I will say in terms of this game, I agree that William Eclan goal.
Oh my God.
I mean, even as a Bruins man, I got to give him like all the love and the flowers that
he deserves.
Because that was that was one heck of a highlight real goal, probably top five previous goals,
though.
I've seen this regular season in the NHL.
So the San Jose sharks, they continue to find different ways to get the job done, get
to get the win.
And, you know, they hand the Bruins the first home loss since December, which really is it's
hard to believe.
But we know that the win, the home win streak is going to come to an end at some point.
But still, the San Jose sharks soon as continue to show a great deal of resilience this year,
my hats off to them because like they have really, they have really like showed up and showed
out a various different points of the season.
By the way, let me clarify, or his goal was bigger because it was in the finals.
Thank you.
But the Eclan goal was a prettier goal.
We had the Red Wings in Tampa Bay taking on the lightning Detroit was one point up on
Boston for the top wildcard spot.
East three points back a Montreal for third in the Atlantic.
Tampa Bay was four points back at Buffalo for first in the Atlantic.
Andre Baslewski would hold Detroit to just one goal on 25 shots.
While Tampa Bay got two goals from Jay Gensel, number 28 and 29, one of power play, one
of empty net and two goals from gauge control, this for one Tampa Bay gets the win over Detroit,
which is starting to fade at the wrong time.
Dylan Larkin is still going to be out for a while with the injury.
Things are getting a little tighter on the collar for the Red Wings right now.
And not and not good news at all, considering that they've now lost four or five.
You talk about just getting cold after wrong time.
This is it for the Red Wings.
I think we've seen something similar.
I think was either last year or the year before where the Red Wings, they just started
to fade right around this time in March and ended up missing the playoffs altogether.
So I hope they're able to write the ship sooner than later.
But Nikita Kutraoff has two points.
He reaches 1100 career points in the NHL.
Congratulations Nikita Kutraoff on a milestone and a dominant win for the Tampa Bay Lightning
in this one.
And we have the Sabers hosting the capitals Buffalo riding that eight game winning streak,
the hottest team in the NHL right now, well, at least in the East.
This one was tied up at one one and the third Sam Kerrick, one of the newcomers for Buffalo,
gets a goal.
Ryan Leonard scored for Washington.
So we're tied one one and the third and only one goal was scored and that came from capitals
defenseman Jacob Jekeren is 23rd of the year.
With a minute, 33 left, he leads all defensemen and goals this season in the NHL, Washington
with a surprising two on win in Buffalo, snapping the Sabers eight game winning streak.
So the Sabers lead atop the Atlantic now down to two points on Tampa Bay.
Surprising not really.
But I will say because of the fact that the capitals played an absolute lackluster game
last night here in Philadelphia against the Flyers, they needed to have a bounce back on
effort tonight against Buffalo, a team that that right now they are as entrenched in a
playoffs, but as they have been and obviously quite some time.
But in this one, this was, this was a game that came down to who was going to score that
time in goal and that time in goal, you know, came off the stick of Jacob Chitron who
scored the winner.
And I just, I just think that if you're, if you're, if you're Buffalo, you just simply
trying to page and you move on to the next game, they got a big one coming up Saturday
night on Hockey night in Canada against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
And you know, like this is, this is an important win for the Washington capitals as well.
Speaking of the Maple Leafs, their superstar goes down with an ugly injury and the response
from his teammates was even uglier.
That's next on Lockdown NHL game night.

We have the Maple Leafs hosting the ducks and a hyme sitting atop the Pacific Division.
Three points up on both Edmonton and Las Vegas.
Las Vegas had a three nothing lead in this one.
The lead was cut to three, two in the second period win.
The big moment in this game happened.
Anaheim defenseman and captain, Radgogudas goes knee on knee with Toronto Maple Leafs
captain, Austin Matthews.
Gudas gets a five minute major and a game is conduct.
Matthews has helped off the ice and does not return.
Toronto would take advantage of that five minute major to get power play goals from
John Severus is 23rd and from William knee lander, his 23rd, they would end up going
on for a six four win, do the leaps over the ducks.
But obviously, everything was shadowed and clouded by what happened between Gudas and
Matthews.
Let's get a report from the host of lockdown, Toronto Maple Leafs, David Morseau.
The Toronto Maple Leafs end their losing streak, but it comes at a cost.
I'm David Morseau from the locked on these podcasts, a six four victory over the Anaheim
ducks gets the leaves over their eight game losing streak, but unfortunately, Austin Matthews
are captain knocked out of the game after a dirty knee on knee hit from Radgogudas.
Unfortunately, the biggest problem with that wasn't even just the play itself for the
injury.
It was the lack of response right after the hit.
How the leaps did show a lot of fight after the play and going into that third period.
But as many people are wondering, why didn't the leaps go and try to defend their captain?
Might the stuff might discuss all that on the locked on these podcasts, plus we also do
another draft lottery simulation.
So let's see, do the leaps get a little lottery luck?
We'll see how it plays out tonight.
So make sure you tune in to the locked on these podcasts, get your podcasts wherever you
get your podcasts from.
It's your team every day.
All right.
Thanks, David Morseau for that.
I know when I heard about the hit, I wasn't watching the game live, but I had heard about
the hit.
I went back and watched it and it's, look, it's a dirty hit.
It's knee on knee.
Gootis is going to get suspended.
Austin Matthews probably suffered a major injury that they said they're going to re-evaluate
him on a Friday, but I thought exactly what David thought because nobody jumped Radgogudas
after that happened.
And I'm like, how can you let someone hit a dirty hit on your captain and your face
to the franchise and not go an immediate response?
And they didn't.
Gutless.
I call them all gutless.
I'll say it.
Gutless cowardly and a team that lacks spying.
That's just calling for what it is.
And I wish I can, I wish I can quote word for word what exactly Paul Bessonette said.
And he's right, not a single player responded.
And again, I wish I can quote word for word, but it was directly along those lines.
And I'm like, that's how you know you're dealing with a team that is broken.
And I'm sorry.
The part that I can't look past is the fact that the lack of a response.
That has me more, I rate more than anything else.
I don't care about the win for the main police.
I look at the fact that you didn't even respond to actually defend your captain who got
who was a victim of a dirty hit by Radgogudas that I can't look past.
Yeah.
And it also has to make you wonder.
I know there's been some speculation about maybe Austin Matthews, leaving in the off
season.
You know, he's got a full no trade clause.
He'd have to approve any kind of a deal.
You wonder when he sees his teammates not have his back doesn't even want to be there anymore
just on the on top of all the other things going on with Toronto.
And you know, this is red meat in Toronto.
They're going to be all over this 24 seven, but it deserves to be.
It was it was a huge play.
It was a huge moment.
And who knows what ramifications could come as a result of that.
We have the stars hosting the oilers thought this might be a high scoring, entertaining matchup.
Edmonton tied with Vegas for second in the Pacific Dallas three points up on Minnesota
for second in the central.
This one was all stars.
They jump out to a three nothing lead Jamie Ben scores his first of two goals.
Jason Robertson his first of two goals as well stars led five nothing into the second
period.
Why it Johnson gets his 35th of the year on the power plays got 22 power play goals.
Jason Robertson gets his second his 36th of the year had a couple of assists as well
on a 4.9.
Oilers do get a couple of goals, but way too little way too late.
A convincing seven to win for the Dallas stars.
And this is a Dallas team without me go right and without rope a hints.
And Edmonton goalie Tristan Jari allowed all seven goals on 27 shots.
Let's get a report on this one from the host of locked on Edmonton oilers Nick Cerraris.
Tristan Jari learned what it was like to be a starting picture in the middle of August
because boy, the Chris no block make him wear it.
The oilers falling seven to two to the Dallas stars down in Dallas on a night where Tristan
Jari got the start on the first half of a back to back.
And that's ultimately why Chris no block did not go to the hook and bring Conor Ringerman
to this game with the back to back looming.
You didn't want to put a goalie anger who got hurt and had to leave their last game
against the avalanche early with an injury into the game if he didn't need to.
And that really set the tone.
This is the latest and the long line of starts for Tristan Jari where he has been extremely
ineffective in net.
And when it rains at pours when your goalie lacks confidence, it's really difficult
for them to find it again.
It's really the ultimate catch 22 the oilers are facing Tristan Jari lacks confidence.
He needs to be able to play to build his confidence back up.
But anytime he plays, he gives up more than four goals in the game and that's just not
a sustainable way to play.
I would be shocked if Conor Ringerman was not the bell cow starter down the back stretch
of the regular season for the Edmonton Oilers.
All right.
Thanks.
The Express hosted locked on oilers for that one.
I understand why they made the Stuart Skinner trade, but the Jari thing just has not worked
out for the oilers.
It hasn't.
I wasn't a fan of the move literally from day one.
I've always felt that this was an area of concern for the Edmonton Oilers, the goal
tuning and we've even talked about it at times during the standing cup playoffs and
finals last spring at a where I thought that the goal tuning situation for Edmonton
has left more to be desired and you go out and you acquire Tristan Jari from the Pittsburgh
penguins.
Yes, what?
It's just been it has been a disaster, it just hasn't worked.
And at this point, I just don't have a whole lot of confidence in in Jari as a net
minor for Edmonton.
We had the golden nights looking to get sole possession of second place as they hosted
the penguins.
Again, Vegas was tied with Edmonton for second in the Pacific Pittsburgh tied with the
islanders for second in the Metro.
Vegas held the three to lead going into the third, then closed it out with three straight
goals for a six to win.
Pablo Dora Fiav has two goals, numbers 31 to 32.
Jack Heiko gets his 24th, Mitch Marna has 19th and Mark Stone did return to the lineup
for Vegas.
That was big for them.
He didn't have a point, but played 17 minutes, 52 seconds.
So good to have him back in the lineup for Vegas.
He's the the straw that stirs the drink for that squad.
And Vegas does grab sole possession of second place in the Pacific.
They are one point back in the ducts for the division lead.
Massive win.
This is a team that had lost six of its last seven games.
And like Pablo Dora Fiav had a big one, a big game in this one, three points, two goals
and assists.
And you know, like welcome back, Mark Stone, because he sure as heck has been missed tremendously
in his Vegas lineup.
So a big win for the Vegas Golden Knights in which that they were able to at least, you
know, like begin to like turn the tie a bit after after after a prolonged slump.
We have the Kraken hosting the avalanche Colorado jumping out to a three nothing lead in
the first.
They got goals for Marty Nages his 30th, Nathan McKinnon is 44, the newcomer Nicholas
walk.
It's his seventh.
His second goal since joining the team.
Nasem Kadri gets his 13th in his first game since coming back to Colorado is the abs
when this one easily five to one.
They're now in NHL best 44, 11 and nine.
There's still five points up on Dallas for the top spot in the central and the best record
in the NHL for Seattle.
They have now fallen out of a wild card spot in the West.
They're now one point back of San Jose for a playout spot.
And this is this is key in terms of for the Colorado avalanche number one, welcome back
Nasem Kadri to Colorado avalanche.
He certainly has been missed very much in Denver number two, you know, Nathan McKinnon,
a whole home and other virtuoso four point performance tonight.
That doesn't surprise me whatsoever.
But as far as Seattle is concerned, like they have been in the end and this playoff hunt
all season long and, you know, like, well, this Colorado team has just come into opposing
NHL Bullings, right much of a season and demolished teams and they did it again tonight.
Predators also in that wild card race out West, they were in Vancouver take on Connux.
That's a big opportunity for two points.
Nashville would get a couple of goals from Tyson Yost, number six and seven, but Vancouver
would score twice in the third period, including Philip Aronik tying it up with the extra
attack.
32 left.
We go to overtime.
We go to a shootout.
Jake DeBrusc, the only shootout goal for the game winner for Vancouver as they pull
out a four three win over Nashville.
The Predators let a chance at two points slip away.
They get one point.
They're tied with San Jose for the last wild card spot, although the sharks have the tie
breaker.
They hold on and get the two points.
They're in the last wild card spot, but they don't get it done on the road against the
team that's struggling.
This was an opportunity to get two points tonight.
They end up getting one, but at the same time, if you're Nashville, you have to be thinking
about the misopportunities that the Nashville did have in this game.
I thought that when you think about the fact that Nashville did lead in this game in
Philip Aronik, it's going to game time goal with one-on-one remaining in regulation.
That's something that just can't happen if you're Nashville, and there was a misopportunity
going for them to grab the second point, and now they're just going to have to pick
the page and try to grab two points in their next game.
All right.
A surprise for the top team in the Eastern Conference.
We'll tell you about that next year on Lockdown NHL Game Night.

We have the top team in the east, the Hurricanes at home against the St. Louis Blues, seems
like an easy win for Carolina, didn't turn out that way, St. Louis gets the 3-1 win,
Jimmy Snuggarood had two goals, numbers 14 and 15 and Jordan Bennington allowed one goal
on 32 shots, surprising loss for the Canes, especially on home ice, where they have
the second most home wins in the NHL behind Boston this season.
This is why the NHL is so down greatest because of the fact that any team can get it on any
given night, even the Carolina Hurricanes who do you think they should be on the St. Louis
Blues.
But nah, the NHL, you know, it's full of surprises at that time.
So when a player in which like Jimmy Snuggarood scores two goals for the St. Louis Blues,
and who extended their points with the now six games, you're like, oh, okay, this
is just a type of knife for the Carolina Hurricanes where you just burned the tape.
But if you're the St. Louis Blues, you build up an impressive win on the road against one
of the better teams in the Eastern Conference, certainly in the NHL as well.
The Minnesota Wilder hosting the Philadelphia Flyers and Owen Tippett scored a shorthanded
goal in the third period to tie this one up.
You would eventually go to a shootout.
It wasn't Trevor Zegris getting the shootout game winner.
Travis Kineckney, the only goal in the shootout in Philadelphia pulls out a three, two victory
in the loss for Minnesota, Krill Caprizov gets his 38th Matt Boldy with the power play
goal is 37th, but no two points for Minnesota in this one.
Let's get the thoughts from the host of walked on Minnesota Wild, Seth Topall.
The stupidest gimmick in all of sports bites the Minnesota Wild again.
I hate shootouts, if you can't tell, Minnesota Wild had opportunities in regulation to win
against the Flyers.
Their penalty kills absolutely nails as they kill off two different penalties in overtime.
But Krill Caprizov, Matt Cicarello, and Matt Boldy all turned away by Dan Bladar and
Travis Kineckney wins it for the Flyers.
How about we just ban the shootout?
Get rid of the shootout, just play more overtime.
It's weird that a regular season gimmick decides games when it's not something that's
used in the postseason.
Just my two cents, just get rid of it entirely.
Just play more overtime.
Don't be afraid to make the change.
Gary Batman stuck on the current playoff format, stuck on the shootout.
How about we get rid of them both?
For more on the Minnesota Wild, make sure you follow Lockdown Wild wherever you listen
to your podcasts.
Thanks, Seth Topall for that opinion.
I would say that there is something worse than shootouts, and I'm old enough to remember
shoot.
I don't know if you are.
When the NHL had ties and ties are worse than the shootout.
At least we have something to decide a winner and a loser.
There was nothing worse than spending three hours and all the work to go to a game, spend
your money, and then it's over and no one wins and no one loses and you're like, that
was a gigantic waste of time.
I'm not a huge fan of the shootout, but they can't play overtime forever in the regular
season.
The shootout is a necessary evil.
It's a necessary evil.
I understand where Seth was coming from, but to your point, Eddie, I'm not old enough
to remember ties, but I terrible.
However with that being said, though, I am old enough to remember shootouts.
In this case, regardless of Seth's point, I don't blame him for being frustrated with
it, but I do agree with him about the playoff format.
That's going to be safe for much, much later.
Once we start doing a static of playoff previews next month, however, I just think that
as far as the fires are concerned, this was a big win for them back-to-back nights, fell
off their impressive win against the Washington capitals on Wednesday night.
This was a huge win against a Minnesota wild team that's been playing tremendous hockey
since before the trade deadline.
Yeah, Philadelphia, if my map is correct and it's math, so good luck with that.
I think there are eight points out of a wildcard spot in the east.
This is correct.
They got a big hill to climb for sure.
For Minnesota, they're now five points back of Dallas for second in the central and that
battle for who's going to get home ice in the first round.
That's what they stand after that.
When we had the mammoth hosting the Black Hawks, another example of, look like a, maybe
a win for Utah on this one, they're pretty comfortable in that number one wildcard spot
in the west.
Six points up on Seattle coming into the night.
This game was tied 2-2 after 3, Dylan Gunn through his 31st, J.J.
Paturka is 22nd for Utah, Tyler Batuzzi is 28th and Frankie Nazar is 10th for Chicago.
This one goes overtime, Connor Bedard ends it with his 27th goal of the year in Chicago.
It's the 3-2 win.
They went 4-0 against Utah this season, so for some reason, the mammoth had trouble with
the Black Hawks.
Utah does get a point, so they're now six points up on San Jose for the number one wildcard
spot in the west.
Speaking of the Black Hawks, this is their second win against the mammoth in four days.
To your point, for some reason, the mammoth has trouble against the Black Hawks this season.
It's one of those things in hockey where they struggle against a team where the team has
their number for whatever reason that may be.
It is what it is, but however, as far as this game was concerned, like Connor Bedard,
the OT winner, he continues to grow offensively and he just continues to get better as well.
I do think that for Utah, this is definitely a tough loss for sure after tying it up with
the J.J. Paturka goal, with 13.45, having passed in that third period, so Utah they're
going to have to turn their page from rather quickly and get ready for the next game,
which in which that every point matters at this point in juncture of the regular season.
We have the Jets hosting the Rangers, Winnipeg still with faint hopes of maybe getting into
a wildcard spot in the west, but New York scored four goals in the third period to break
this one open. In a six-three win in Winnipeg, the Rangers had six different goal scorers.
Alexis LaFernière gets his 19th game per row. His seventh of the year was the game winner.
Winnipeg came in five points back and see out of the last wildcard spot in the west.
They're now six points back of San Jose now.
I mean, Winnipeg Jets was a tough loss for the Jets tonight, but for the Rangers, like this
was an important win for them in which that Alexis LaFernière, he's since his goal
streaked to three now, and the Rangers have now won three in a row.
So since the trade deadline, they've been on a little bit of an uptick in terms of their
overall play, especially offensively. And most notably, Alexis LaFernière, who has gotten
hot out of a sudden. And now things are, you know, like maybe too little too late for the Rangers.
I mean, I don't think anybody is working there to make the playoffs. I don't think they are,
actually. But this was a good sign in terms of like, you know,
wants to look forward to moving forward in regards to this team.
I'm sure Ranger fans are upset because they're maybe hurting their odds as getting the number
one overall pick in the draft by winning these games. Good luck with that.
And our final game, two teams that have no possible way to make a playoff run here. We have
the New Jersey Devils hosting the Calgary Flames. John Beecher, a pair of goals for Calgary,
numbers two and three. His first career, two goal game. He also got his first career,
short-handed goal as well. Michael Backland would end up getting the game winner in the third period.
As Calgary holds off a late push from New Jersey. The Hughes brothers each getting a goal in the
third period, Jack and Luke. Five four, though. Calgary gets the win over New Jersey.
They had lost six of seven coming into this one. This was an important win for the Flames. Like
John Beecher had his first multi goal game in his NHL career. So that was impressive to see.
And as well as for the New Jersey Devils, I think above all else, how about the Hughes brothers scoring?
And of course, Jack used to riding the high from the Olympics offensively in this one.
But all in all, it was a good road win for the Calgary Flames against the Devils.
All right. That's going to do it for a busy Thursday in the NHL. We had some surprises. We had
some controversies. Just another good night of hockey. As the playoff race continues to take shape.
