Gastineau's Lawsuit Dismissed Over Sack Exchange Doc

A federal judge dismissed former New York Jets defensive end Mark Gastonneau's 25 million

dollar lawsuit against ESPN, NFL Films, and filmmakers behind the 30 for 30 documentary,

The New York Sack Exchange. The suit stemmed from a scene showing Gastonneau confronting

Brett Favve over a controversial play. Gastonneau held the NFL single-season sack record from

1984 until 2001. That's when Michael Strahan's are past it, with 22.5 sacks, including one on

Favve that sealed the mark. The footage aired in the film captured Gastonneau at a 2023 event

where he accused Favve of falling down on purpose during Strahan's big moment. ESPN first shared

the clip online in December 2024, right before the documentary drops later that month. Gastonneau

claimed the scene used his name and likeness without permission, portrayed him falsely and sparked

social media attacks. He said key parts, like a handshake, were cut out maliciously. According to

court docs, the judge ruled Gastonneau agreed to a talent role, with only limited approval rights

for his own interviews. The dismissal applies to all parties except NFL productions, but the whole
