Gavin Lux Injured, Palacios Steps Up for Rays

The team placed the veteran infielder on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement right before opening day. That opens the door for Richie Palacios to secure a spot on the roster. The Rays picked up Lux from Cincinnati back in January through a three team trade. Tampa Bay sent outfielder Josh Lowe to the Los Angeles Angels, while the Angels shipped reliever brought Burke to the Reds. It was a move to bolster the infield for the upcoming season. Lutz brings a solid resume at age 28. He hit 269 last year with the Reds, including five home runs and 53 runs batted in. Over his career, he's a 256 hitter who earned two World Series rings with the Dodgers. This spring, Lux had a rough start in seven games with Tampa Bay, batting 190. Manager Kevin Cash noted his right shoulder had been cranky lately, leading to the setback.
