Two big brush fires have been raging in Georgia for about a week now, scorching over

34,000 acres near the Florida state line and wiping, out more than 50 structures.

Meanwhile, Florida is dealing with over 130 wildfires that have burned 39 square miles

up north, with smoke drifting all the way to Jacksonville and Atlanta.

Hurricane Helene last year slammed Georgia, knocking down millions of tons of pine and

hardwood trees across nearly 14,000 square miles, leaving a ton of dry fuel just waiting

to ignite.

Add in the bone dry air, no rain, low humidity, and hotter fall temps, and you've got perfect

conditions for these blazes to spread fast.

Folks in the region are in high alert after warnings went out about that post-Hurricane

debris build up and the destruction's hitting home hard with.

Schools in land lost, out east, where more people live compared to the wide open west,

these fires pose bigger risks even if they're smaller in scale.

Researchers from places like the University of Florida point out that from 1984 to 2020,

large fires and scorched land have.
