Governmentalescapology!

Fockham Hall

About this episode

Tonight I welcomed Survival Steve and Paul for a gloriously wide-ranging conversation that began with a plea to save thousands of laying hens from needless culling and grew into a bigger discussion about morality, authority and the madness of following cruel rules simply because they come from on high. We also dug into media theatre, mass distraction, football as escapism, and the importance of raising consciousness rather than sleepwalking through the system. Along the way, there was plenty of chat-room banter, a good dose of black humour, and even an unexpectedly detailed detour into chicken behaviour, coops, pecking orders and why rescue hens deserve better.

In the second half, Steve turned practical and gave us a proper preparedness masterclass. We covered the core priorities of survival, shelter, water, fire, food, navigation, signalling and first aid, before getting into the nuts and bolts of useful kit: tarps, bivvy bags, pocket knives, lighters, torches, water filters, purification tablets, cooking stoves, first-aid gear, lighting, tools and backup power. The thread running through it all was simple: don’t wait for a crisis to discover what you should have learned beforehand. Build resilience now, test your kit, think ahead, and whatever happens, keep your sense of humour.
