Governor Kay Ivey
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey underwent a minor procedure today at Baptist Medical Center
South in Montgomery to remove fluid pressing against her lung.
For the past three weeks, she's dealt with left side discomfort and recently felt a bit
shorter breath, so she saw her primary care doctor this morning, who sent her straight
to a surgeon.
The 81-year-old governor is term-limited and can run again in 2026, but she's pushing
to wrap up the current regular session at full strength.
The procedure went smoothly this afternoon, and though it wasn't an emergency, she's
staying at the hospital for a few days of monitoring just to be safe.
Her team says she's in good spirits, determined to make a quick and full recovery so she can
get back to work without missing a bead.
