TROOZe TANOS TRYING to a t gonna N entle little hey i add
Hello and welcome to GreeksPandidStateLights, 60 minutes from the best of the musicals. And this week it's me and Mrs. R. Yes, it is. And you pick the songs? I've picked all the songs, yes. Well I thought it was nice. Every now and again I will get you to pick the songs from some of the shows that you've been involved with as a director or an actor. And then I'll do the same without as the woodgate. Yeah, great idea. So it's just you and me in the studio and you folks, thanks for your tuning in. We do appreciate it. So your first song we're going to be playing is the Gypsy in Me from Anything Goes. Yes. Go on in why? Well I could have chosen anything from Anything Goes really. It's a great show. But Gypsy in Me, I did it many many years ago and an absolutely fantastic chap played that part. It's such a good part and he's such a chindless wonder. And then suddenly he breaks out and you realize that he's got a bit of Gypsy in him and it's just grand.
I've never told this to anybody before Miss Swini. It's the ugly family secret. There's something dark and savage in our blood. In mine especially. You see, long long ago. So long ago I hardly know when. My great great grandmother now and then stepped out with her chips. Of course she will say she wants a little bit tipsy. But tipsy now, no. I'd love there wasn't a doubt. So I can't wait to get the stage or set so I can let. The Gypsy in Me. I'm hiding our rivals and the stupid the Gypsy in Me.
That's never been found. Waiting her stay. And the stupid the Gypsy in Me. Just hanging around. Until that magical night. When the stars by their light give mystery to the sleeping lagoon. While I'm hunting guitar. Not to near, not to far. Gelyons erase, thrums away at a delay too old. I'm married, but dream was the one in the world. I wish it had an appeal. I've a moment so dream. We'll be shown the unnerved, just in there.
It's time for this week's Lyrical Challenge on Greece Paint and Stage Lights. Now regular listeners to this program will know that the last song we play is always the Lyrical Challenge song. And it's one of your favorite, favorite, favorite songs. It is. It's absolutely. Here we go. Can you guess what this song is? All things being even. Here's what I believe in. Nothing matters more than love. At the villa of the barren to sing at the moon. Where I spend to somewhat infamous year. At the villa of the barren to sing at. I had ladies in attendance. Fire-reuping tendons. Lies off. What's happened to them? Years old today. Disgrace. What's become of them, some of them hardly pay their shorty way.
What once was a rash and pain is now just an amiable shock. What once was a villain at least is dim. What once was a guy with train is now just a super little frog. What once was a subtuous feast is things. They do not even think. Reasons. Ah, the reasons. Where was I? Oh yes. At the palace of the Duke of La Rue. Who was prematurely deaf but a dear. At the palace of the Duke of La Rue. I acquired some position plus a tiny tuition. Liesons. What's happened to them? Liesons today.
To see them. Indiscriminate women. It pains me more than I can say. The lack of taste of the day is plain. Where is style? Where is skill? Where is forethought? Where is discretion of the heart? Where is passion of the art? Where is craft? With a smile and a will but with more thought. I acquired a shadow extravagantly overstaffed. Too many people muddle sex with mere desire and when emotiony to fiends but next descend. It should under no account of cliques or worse inspire.
Its butter pleasurable means to a measurable end. Why does no uncomprehend? Let us hope this lunacy is just a trend. Where was I? Oh yes. In the castle of the king of the Belgians. We were visiting through a force ship again. In the castle of the king of the Belgians. Who when things got rather touching? Did it near Dutch? Liesons. What's happened to them? Liesons today. Untried. Take my duty I taught her. I tried my best to point the way.
I even named her disarray. In a world where the kings are employors. Where the amateur prevails I delicacy fails to pay. In a world where the princes are lawyers. What can anyone expect except to recollect? Liesons. Get involved in the show. Movies were movies when you paid a dime to escape. Shearing the hero and hissing the man in the cave.
Romance and action and thrills. Partner there's gold in them hills. Movies were movies when during the titles you know. You'd get a happy ending. Dozens of blood-burring cocks in a thundering chase. Getting a bang out of lemon meringue in the face. And it's attacking our train. One little tramp with our king. Movies were movies were movies when I ran the show. Movies were movies when Pauline was tied to the track. After she trudged through the ice with a bale on her back. Girls in the sea sure would stand. All in a row in the sand. Rulingness stuckings and in shinnocroir below.
The line of decency and swanson and Keaton. And wrestler and William S. Hart. No one pretended that what we were doing was art. We had some guts and some luck. But we were just making a buck. Movies were movies when I ran the show. Movies were movies when I ran the show. And it's attacking our train. And it's attacking our train. And it's attacking our train. And it's attacking our train. And it's attacking our train.
Swanson and Keaton and wrestler and William S. Hart. No one pretended that what we were doing was art. We had some guts and some luck. But we were just making a buck. Movies were movies. When I ran the show. So it's me and Mrs. R. And you sit here enjoying some great music. And we heard when movies were movies before that liaisons. And a little light music. And then we had that gypsy in me. So liaisons and movies were movies. Why those songs were your list? Well liaisons, I mean, it comes anyway from a little night music, which is a show that I love. But that particular version was Angela Landsbury doing it. Angela Landsbury is just, oh, she was the most wonderful performer.
I saw her do blind spirit in London a few years ago. And she was over 90 then. And she was throwing herself around the stage. Oh, she was just incredible. At one point she rolled off the sofa onto the floor. I mean, she's just an absolute. She has been right from day one and most wonderful performer. It's also interesting to think someone over 90 can still remember the words. I know that's well, yes, considering that a lot of people can't remember the words after the 40s. What days? So from that to movies were movies, Mac and Mabel. I love Mac and Mabel. It went on on Broadway. And then it came to London and they changed the end. And it went. What are you liking? No, because it went the end of the show. He sings a song called, I promise you, a happy ending. When she's dying. Oh, right. When Mabel's dying because she died of a drug overdose. Okay. And actually, when it came to London, they sang it as a happy song.
I promise you a happy ending and it will be. And it completely wrecked the show because he's, he's, there's a fantastic speech, which he does after that, where he tells the story of what happened to her and everything. But that went. So that could that be political crickness gone mad? Who knows? Who knows? Who knows? But actually, movies were movies is the opening of the show. And it's basically him telling about how he did it. And I've put it into my concert. Oh, you have this. I have. And actually, there's a, there's a, there's a, the instrumental bit in the middle. I'm doing a silent movie to it. Oh, well done. So what? Real actors or on a screen? No, no, no. Real actors. Oh, real actors. We're actually acting it out with a bit of flashing, you know, strobe type stuff. Brilliant. Now, Jesus Christ superstar, Hosanna, why that one? I don't know really. I've superstar has been around for so long. I saw the original, where they were, you know, vickers and nuns and people waving black guards outside the theatre.
And it keeps sort of cropping up throughout the whole of my life, really. And it seems funny, because it always seems to be topical. Yes, it does. It does. But I just picked Hosanna because it shows the extent of the range of the two characters, and Caiaphas and Anas and it's just, and the chorus is, it's, it's, it's good. I like it. Hosanna, isanna, isanna, isanna, isanna, oh, isanna, isanna, oh, isanna. Can you see, can you see, won't you smile, and give, isanna, oh, isanna, isanna. It's true, but stop. Tell the rabble to be quiet, we anticipate a riot, this common crowd. Is much true loud. Tell the mub who sing your song, that they are fools, and they are wrong, they are a curse.
They should disperse. Hosanna, isanna, isanna, isanna, oh, isanna, isanna, oh, isanna. AJC, AJC, you're all right, my name'sanna, oh,anna, isanna, isanna, isanna, isanna. Why waste your breath, morning at the crowd? Nothing can be done to stop the shouting. If every tone was still the noise, would still continue. The rocks and stones themselves would stop to sing. Hosanna, isanna, isanna, isanna, isanna, oh, isanna, isanna, isanna, oh, isanna.
AJC, AJC, won't you fight for me, then I'll go, then I hate superstars. Hi, I'm Frank Wildhorn, and you are listening to Grease Paint and Stage Lights, where musicals matter. This is the moment, this is the day, when I send all my doubts and demons on their way. Every endeavour I have made ever is coming into play. It's here and now, today, this is the moment, this is the time, when the momentum and the moment are in rhyme.
Give me this moment, this precious chance. I'll gather up my past and make some sense at last. This is the moment, when all I've done, all of the dreaming and scheming and the screaming become one. This is the day, see if I call it a shine, when all I've lived for becomes fine. For all this is, I face the world all alone. And now the time has come to prove to them I've made it on my own.
This is the moment, my final test, destiny back on. I never record the second best I won't look down. I must not fall, this is the moment, the sweetest moment of the world. This is the moment, the devil in the eyes, this day I never, I sing forever with the gods. But when I look back, I always recall, moment for moment, this was the moment, the greatest moment of ever.
That's what you would call a big end. Oh, yes. Jekyll and Hyde, this is the moment, I mean, that's the song that sort of goes on and on and on and gets just bigger and bigger. It does. All of Jekyll's songs, well, when it becomes Mr Hyde, are really big. It's a huge, huge part, but I think extremely well written. And it's got two brilliant choruses in it as well, Fassard and then the one in Act 2 about murder. It's just an excellent show. So that's why you picked it from your list? Yeah, just an excellent show. And that's something that everybody I think who knows the show, at all knows that song. All they do. And everyone tries to sort of do that when they do an open mic in a musical theatre somewhere. Yes, exactly, exactly. Not only a few can pull it off. Exactly. I'm not realising that that's just one of about six massive great songs. Yes. Yes, absolutely. I remember seeing Russell Stratton.
I directed that production. Oh, you do. I asked. You just dropped that in. Yes. If you heard the Thad on the Table, it was just dropped in there. It's a, a Marbill's Be Here and Julie Roofie here on Grease Pan and Stade Lights. We're sharing a cup of tea a few biscuits and we're talking about some of Julia's favourite songs. Next one, Pippin and the Corn of the Sky. Corn of the Sky. I've really liked that song. I've got a choral arrangement of it, which I've done with children over the years. And it's very successful. And what I like about it is the fact that you could have a little corn of the sky for yourself. Yeah, it's got, it's a lovely, yeah, a lovely message. I love it. I love it. I love it. Everything has its season. Everything has its time.
Show me a reason and I'll soon show you a rhyme. Can't spit on the windowsill, children fit in the snow. So why do I feel I don't fit in anywhere I go? Rivers belong where they can ramble. Eagles belong where they can fly. I have got to be where my spirit can run free. I've got to find my corner of the sky. Every man has his daydreams. Every man has his goal. People like the wind dreams have us to came to the soul. Thunder clouds have their lightning. Nightingales have their song. And don't you see I want my life to be something more than long.
Rivers belong where they can ramble. Eagles belong where they can fly. I've got to be where my spirit can run free. I've got to find my corner of the sky. Sorry, that's the end. Just settle for something small. But I won't rest until I know I'll have it all. So don't ask where I'm going. Just listen when I'm gone. And far away you'll hear me singing. Softly to the dawn. Rivers belong where they can ramble. Eagles belong where they can fly. I've got to be where my spirit can run free.
I've got to find my corner of the sky. Rain. Grace Banger states lights. It's true. It's true. The ground has made it clear. The climate must be perfect. All the year. A law was made a distant moon ago here. To lie and august cannot be too hot. And there's a legal limit to the snow here. In Kamalot. The winter is forbidden till December. And eggs it's March the 2nd on the dot. By order summer lingers to September.
In Kamalot. I know it sounds a bit bizarre. But in Kamalot. Kamalot. That's how conditions are. The rain may never fall till after sundown. By eight the morning fog must disappear. In short there's simply not a more congenial spot. For happily ever after we. Then we'll give in with Kamalot.
Kamalot. I know it gives a person cold. But in Kamalot. Kamalot. Those are the legal laws. The snow may never slush upon the hillside. My 9pm moonlight must appear. In short there's simply not a more congenial spot. For happily ever after we. Then we'll give in with Kamalot. I can imagine top hole singing there. Kamalot. Yes. And before that we had call the skull out from Pippin. So Kamalot. I mean that was from Richard Burton and Julie Andrews. Yes. Yes. Which was a very long time ago. Kamalot is very difficult.
It's got the best and the worst. Right. It's one of those things that I would love Stephen Fry to get hold of and slightly rewrite. Ah. Okay. Because some of the songs are absolutely fabulous. And it's got one of the best endings of any show that right near the end when everything's gone to pieces. Yeah. They're about to go into the battle. There's this little scene with a young boy called Tom of Warwick. And it's just magic and he's hiding. And King Arthur tells him to run behind the lines and tell everybody the story of Kamalot. And it's probably the best end to any show. But the trouble is quite a lot of stuff before it. It can be a little bit. It's a bit dated. It is a bit dated. But it's got some great songs in it. How do you handle a woman? Yes. It is a bit. Yes. And Samoa, Samoa, for Lancelot is really.
But it's one of those a bit like Stephen Fry rewrote the me and my girl. Me and my girl. And he turned it from a really pretty terrible show to something that's actually really good. So if you're listening, Stephen Fry, please rewrite Kamalot. Absolutely right. Now one thing you did say when you said about the little boy and the little scene, the hair wonderful was you touched the back in there. And I don't know if you had a niche or the bank of the neck was going. Yeah, it does. With that scene, really, if you've got a good little lad doing it as well. Well, very powerful. Now from an old one, Kamalot, to your right in town. Yeah. Run, free to run. I mean, that's a bit of a link between them. Oh, I mean, how do you manage that? It's like I saw. I saw you're in town when I was in Edinburgh doing a play. And the conservatoire performing arts at university did it. And the most wonderful set, it was just a huge toilet. But it's got some great songs in it. It really has. And it's the show basically is about them sort of, you know, turning off the water and things like that.
But it's great. And this is a really good song. And there's a lot of other really good songs in it. Nobody ever does it though. Run, free to run. Free to run away. I'm afraid you have to run, run, run, run, run. Free to run away. That freedom sun will shine today. Do you think you better run, run, run, run, run? Free to run away. I'm afraid. I'm afraid. Cool. It's where you should be. Freedom is scary. It's a blast of cool wind that burns your face to wake you up. Literally. Yes. There's a trick on the sweat. I'm so excited. It's in your ears. You're in your hands. You got run, run, run, run, run, run, run away. Now don't you fret. I'm afraid. To freedom. So, one, one, one, one, one, free to run away. There's a great big cloud built on your tail. Run, run, run, run. It is bullet handsflip on your tail.
Run, run, run, run. Simply let it back. Great big cloud just made it take me. Ain't no time to relax. You run, freedom run. Run, freedom run. Run, freedom run. Run, run, run, run, run. Freedom run away. Freedom run away. Freedom run away. Freedom run away. Freedom run away. My friend. You have to run, run, run, run, run. Freedom run away. Freedom run away. Freedom run away. That freedom sun, that freedom sun, will shine someday. It's threefold. See, then you better run, run, run, run, run. There, run away. Freedom run away.
My friend you have to run, run, run, run. Freedom run away. That freedom sun, that freedom sun, will shine someday. It's threefold. It's threefold. You better run, run, run, run, run. Run, run, run, run. Hey, there, there. You better run, freedom run. Freedom run, freedom win in your head. You run to freedom's glory. Freedom sun, that freedom sun, will shine. I love your freedom story. I said freedom. I said freedom. I said freedom. I said freedom. Freedom run away. Freedom run away. Greece paint and stage lights every week. Oh, but I just loved A Green Room Alistair produced Yes And it was just really good and I just loved that song, it's just brilliant Well, my own brooks is brilliant
Yes, yes, yes I even waved back and I think it was in the 70s when the blazing saddles and it's around the fire Just so inappropriate now, isn't it? Just made you laugh It really did, yeah, really did I don't know why I haven't got something for the producers in here actually Well, we can do that next time Now, 22 is two of your top favourite songs And you've gone through guys and dolls Which two songs will be picked for your two of them? I've picked So down you're rocking the boat and fugue for tin horns Why? So down you're rocking the boat I think is a brilliant song anyway But also my son played nicely, nicely in town And he was just absolutely brilliant doing it And fugue for tin horns is incredibly clever The way it is a fugue And the way it links together, incredibly clever So which way ran would you like him? Give me, um...
Sit down you're rocking the boat first Okay, now it's time for this week's two at 22 Two songs from one show on Greece Paint and Stage Lights We will now hear testimony from brother nicely, nicely Johnson Brother nicely, nicely Johnson Good, good, good Well, it happened to me kind of funny, like a dream That's it, a dream Tell us in your own words I dreamed last night I got up about to heaven And by some chance I had brought my dice along And the right stood and I hollered someone's fate me But the passengers they knew right from wrong For the people who'll sit sit down, sit down you're rocking the boat People who'll sit sit down, sit down you're rocking the boat And the devil will drag you under by the sharp propel of your checker
Coat it out, sit down, sit down, sit down you're rocking the boat I sailed away on that little boat heaven And by some chance found a bottle in my fist And there I stood, nicely passing out the whiskey But the passengers were bound to resist For the people who'll sit beware And your own I had to be true People who'll sit beware Those couple of ships and the devil was raggy wonder By the passenger's eye running we get broken out Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down you're rocking the boat And as I laugh at those passengers to heaven A great big wave came and washed me all my board And as I sank And I hollered someone saved me
That's the moment I woke up Thank the Lord And I said to myself, sit down, sit down you're rocking the boat Said to myself, sit down, sit down you're rocking the boat And the devil will drag you under by the sharp propel And the devil will never float, sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down And your rock is about to sink down you're rocking the boat Said to myself, sit down yo're rocking the boat Said to myself, sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down Rock to the boat, sit down, sit down, sit down Rock to the boat, sit down, sit down Rock to the boat, sit down rock to the boat Said to myself, sit down, sit down Rock to the boat, sit down I'll walk you down, I'll walk you down I'll walk you down, I'll walk you down I'll walk you down, I'll walk you down I'll walk you down, I'll walk you in It's time to find it! The world! You're in the middle of this week's 2 at 22.
I got the horse right here, the name is Paul Revere and here's the guy that says it's all weather's clear and do, and do. This guy says the horse can do. If he says the horse can do, can do, can do. I'm making violent time for the morning line the guy has came to the horde again. But the guy has been haze with a fire half a corn through this chair, his hand, and a grass for Paul Revere. I hear his boots all right, and he's the boss of all people. Pensive in rain last night. I know it's violent time, but the morning marks the vine but I guess the jacks knees are rather loud, rather than mine. And just a minute, boys, I got the feeling of noise. It's like the scratch, but the light's the worst. I tell you Paul Revere, now this is the most stiff. It's from a handy captain that's recently here. I hold the bow and time from the boiling line but this guy seems the whole thing spiced up. So maybe it's half a hand,
but he's the boss of all people. That's my half a hand, and I hold the bow and time from the boiling line I got the horde right here. That was this week's two at 22 on Grace Payton stage lights. Hello, it's Mark Beelsby here with Julie Rufy and Julia's picking her songs for this week and it's a selfish program, but so far, I got to be honest, I'm cracking tunes you've been. Oh, thank you. Now, we've gone from the guys and dolls to a 22 to the boy from Oz and I go to Rio. Connection for that one, please. There is none. I just love Hugh Jackman.
Music When my baby, When my baby's buzzing, The actor of Rio, is there to live on? My Rio. I hold out of the man I have, that's who the soundbox, the handlebox. Now, I've got a breath on. With a fraction of persuasion, for dancer, or for man's. But I give it to the rhythm and my people, all the weak and not mine. Whoa, whoa, where my baby? When my baby's buzzing, The actor of Rio, is there to live on? I'm a salsa pedo.
When my baby's buzzing, The sound of the light, the sound of the light, the sound of the light, the sound of the light. Whoa, whoa, where my baby? When my baby's buzzing, The actor of the house, the jungle, there on the hot sand. It'll fall over, my mouth will fade above, real make love pop. Now, I've got a breath on. With a fraction of persuasion, for dancer, or for man's. You know that's just not me. But I turn into a darker, and the time I am a cyclone, a wilder. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
You're listening to Greece Paint and Stage Lights, playing all the great songs from the best musicals. Oh, and that's all I need. Funk, got a six. One, four, three, two, one. Help! Here we go. We all band-boot, you better never bother with the old band-boot. I'm gentlemen, Scott, they walk into the past scene, let's go ahead and have. And the merry game of robbing of their use of quarter-staff. On the spanish plates inside their canes, they hide their running swords. But we make two with an old band-boot, and everyone else loves. One, two, three, four, one, six, let's go. Here we go, band-boot, you better never bother with the old band-boot. You can have me at some of your own, but you better never bother with the old band-boot. I'm not a problem, hey.
When hunting on the pit full tent, you use a sturdy pole to protect that back of nature. Ladies use a pedestal, but issues fall in the underbrush. I have a happy spirit. Rock the walk we do with an old band-boot, makes everybody chair. One, two, three, four. The old band-boot, the old band-boot. You better never bother with the old band-boot. You can have me at some of your own, but you better never bother with the old band-boot. I'm not a problem, hey. Look out. What's wrong with that, ho? Oh! Here we go!
Oh! Don't have this pain! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! I say, oh! Oh! Oh! One, two, three, four. Five, six, seven. Eight, and a one, two, three. Four, one, and six, seven. You'll remember. You'll remember. You better never bother with the old band-boot. You better never bother with the old band-boot. You better never bother with the old band-boot. You better never bother with the old band-boot. The lyrical challenge on Greece Payton Stage Lights. So you heard that we all bamboo and chit-chit-chit-bang-bang. And I go to Rio from the Boy From Oz. Favorite songs? Oh, yeah, yeah, yes. A reason for them. Well, the Boy From Oz is just... So, that's lifting songs? It's just brilliant. The whole show is just great. I love it. I love it.
And an actual Hugh Jackman can do no wrong. You can't, Kenny. You could read the telephone book and we'll be happy. Yeah, and then I'd love it. And yes, and chit-chit-chit-bang-bang. And me old bamboo, great dance number. And I loved directing that show. It was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. When ever coming up to your final song, the lyrics for this song were? They were. All things being even. Here's what I believe in. Nothing matters more than love. Listen, it's been a great, great 60 minutes. Oh, lovely. I really enjoy it. Thank you for picking the music. And thank you very much for tuning in. And tune in next week for Grease Pen and Stayslides. Until then, take care. Look out to yourselves, look out to your neighbours. And bye-bye. Bye. All things being even. Here's what I believe in. Nothing matters more than love. Friendship and affection. Real connection. It's a gift from above. Every song that we play. Every prayer that we pray makes our bond in a way that's profound.
We're just here to spread that love all around. Spread it around. Spread it around. Spread it around. Spread it around. Queen of angels, welcome to the Spokenest of Parable. Oh, oh, oh, welcome, Holy Father.
And love's music fill you down to your heart. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Turn your crowd on the floor. Turn me into a king. Turn me into a king. Be down, be down. Turn up to your heart. And go ahead and spread it around. Get down, get down. If they don't want it, you're so dead. Get down, get down. Come on baby, boy, open your eyes. Come on, take or love's music fly.
