Green Party Artist Sparks Controversy Over Hamas Ban

On April 2nd, a British Palestinian artist named Levna Spitan, who's active in the green

party, sparked controversy by calling on activists to fight, the UK's ban on Hamas.

She argues the prescription, put in place in 2021, is just a way to squash armed resistance

against Israeli occupation.

This came up in a video from an October online talk, where she said, opposing oppression

gets labeled as terrorism.

One recently led a push at the Green Spring Conference for a motion declaring, Zionism

is racism and backing Palestinian resistance to enda, occupation.

That effort failed amid infighting and tech litches, but it had support from the party's

deputy leader and even drew a social media drive to recruit, voters just for it.

The Green Party, under new co-leaders Zach Polanski, has pushed to reverse the ban on

the group Palestine Action, after some violent protests, belifting.

Hamas' prescription would be a whole different step, not official policy.

Spitan stands firm, saying her views haven't changed, and resistance is a right under international

law.

Critics like the campaign against anti-Semitism slameter, saying groups behind atrocities

like the October 7th massacre, which killed nearly, 1200 people including kids are terrorists

by definition, labor sources piled on, urging Polanski to reject any honesty for terrorists

in these tens times.

Hamas itself challenged the UK ban last year, using the European Convention on Human Rights,

but it stuck.

As the baits rage and activist circles, the Greens navigate these divides, while the

Israel Gaza conflict keeps fueling the fire.
