Grinston Joins Army Emergency Relief, Boosting Fort Bliss Aid

Retired Army Sergeant Major Tony Grinston, the former top enlisted leader, is now heading

to Fort Bliss as CEO of Army Emergency Relief.

He's kicking off a visit there starting Sunday, April 26th, right in the middle of their

big annual fundraising push that runs until June 14th, the Army's birthday.

Army Emergency Relief steps in with a real financial backup for soldiers, retirees,

active duty, guard, reserve folks, and surviving spouses.

This year alone at Fort Bliss, they handed out $2,000,000 in interest-free loans, $450,000

in.

Grants, and $233,000 in scholarships.

Those loans saved local families nearly $250,000 in interest payments, putting cash

straight back into pockets instead of high interest traps.

The group relies completely on donations, no government cash, which come mostly from

retirees, then businesses, and active soldiers.

This year brings fresh options.

Army reserve soldiers can now snag grants for food, housing, or transportation, without

needing to be activated for, 30 days.

National guards still has that rule on paper, but they bend it often to help when it's

needed most.

Soldiers can apply online through the AER site, hit up their command, garrison teams, or

army community services.
