And we're going to spend some minutes here today talking about the Montreal Canadians prospect pool, more specifically their Russian prospects and the much anticipated hype around Alexander Zorowski. And my name is Gleb, Gleb Pugachev. And what's going on there? Well, Gbougechov, my bad. When it comes to Gleb, the latest is not starting with this KHL team, Marco, what happened? What was his training camp like?

4:11What would you say disappointing? I don't, I think a lot of people for a first-round pick expected maybe a little bit more. It's hard to be to really kind of stick out, but you know, you had another youngster in sports off who is going to be potentially a top three pick and this upcoming draft look much better than him is, you know, a draft year younger, both are not on the opening roster right now for torpedo. So it's when you have younger players like that again, the KHL is not like the rest of the developmental leagues you'll see across the world, especially in Europe. It's what can you do for me today? How can you help me today? You know, it's not a testament to the potential of a player down the line. Even though again, I do believe that Pugachev's style is going to be more North American optimized

5:15once he comes over. That being said though, I expected more offense. I expected a little bit more flash. They played him in KHL preseason games. They played him in a couple of MHL, which is the junior league preseason games. And you know, torpedo is one of those teams that's trying to be as competitive as possible. So I totally understand the decision to maybe not start him on the roster, but this is a guy that's going to be going back and forth a little bit. And a lot of people are going to be panicking because, well, Ivan Demadov never did that. Right. And that's because he is special. But now they did Alexander Hirovsky after his draft year. And that said more about Ufa, the team that he was playing for, then him personally. I still think, obviously, I still think that Jirovsky's potential, like high end potentials higher than Pugachev. He's more skillsy, controls the parkway more, his vision is better. But I think Pugachev plays more of that key bottom six style energy

6:21game. But if the rest of his game isn't properly rounded out yet, you're not going to be super effective at the KHL level yet. But what I was told out of the folks that I spoke to in Russia is, do not panic. They just want to make sure that if they bring him in, they bring him in when he has good momentum, not because they have to keep him in the lineup. How much of it is situational based? Because I wanted to elaborate on the fact that, and you brought this point up right there in passing, right, that that wasn't the case for Alexander Zirovsky, and it wasn't made for Ivan Demadov, right? And I think you laid the groundwork specifically so on on the Demadov front, right? The exceptional talent that he is. But we also, we go back to the Roman Rodenburg era when he was over in the KHL. Like he was very much underused. That was an ongoing, developing story throughout the course, certainly of his last year in the KHL, whereas Zirovsky, on the other hand, Ufa, he was used. He was used because we know, and that other point that you brought up is well documented about

7:24the fact that the KHL skews more towards the older player, trying to be competitive, less developmental, I suppose, based on what we're used to in North America at the lower level, certainly. But is it more situational based, like case by case, like you look in an exceptional town like Demidov and how underused he was and how stubborn Rodenburg seemed to be according to the headlines and everything else. And now, Gleb, I mean, how situational is it or franchise specific, I guess, determining on the player and developing and while trying to be competitive too? Very franchise specific. And you know, this is what I was trying, this is what I was explaining to a lot of people last year, which Zirovsky is like, oh my God, he's putting up Demidov numbers. He did at the very beginning of the season, playing top power play minutes. Exactly. And this is why when we look at, you know, there's a lot of models that look at what a player scoring in the KHL versus historically, historically,

8:29players that age don't get those kinds of minutes. They barely even get games, right? So like that's, that's why I always kind of like skew a little bit and put a little, a little nuance in these evaluations. I still think Zirovsky has top six talent, absolutely. But I don't think we'd be talking, you know, fans would be talking about him with as much hype if he played for torpedo, if he played for sesca, if he played for ska, if he played for AK bars, like we be having a different conversation in the KHL, but because he had played on a team that was depleted last year in UFA, that gave him the opportunity to develop faster. That's not normal in the KHL. And so fast forward a year, here we are with Puguchov. Unfortunately, wasn't able to crack the roster on the opening day. The big difference in the KHL is that there's a level of fluidity between the MHL, the VHL, which is their minor league system and the KHL. It's very up and down, even during the preseason, you're sending guys up and down. It's happening at the same time. So, Canadians, fans, I just

9:35wanted to put it out there before we move on with the Gleb Puguchov, but I don't think this changes anything. And if he doesn't get consistent KHL minutes this season, it just adds more fuel to the fire of the Canadians trying to get him out of Russia quicker before the end of the year or after the end of the year. Diving into Alexander Zorowski more specifically, right? What's your level of belief that the time that he spent here this summer, rooming and learning the lay of the land and sharing some ice with Ivan Demidov, where's your mindset for this guy going into another KHL season? How much do you put into the fact that he was here and Ivan Demidov had him under his wing more or less? I think it helps, but it all starts with effort level and commitment, right? Like he came

10:37over, didn't have to spend about a month, didn't take a couple of days, total and Montreal, was on the ice, on the ice with Demidov, Hudson, Adam Nicholas, worked on a couple of things. The skating has definitely improved, in my opinion. But again, to me, what's going to make or break Zorowski's KHL season this year is going to be his play at five on five. Last year, it was power play, power play, power play. That's where he was driving the offense. And he was excellent when giving power play time. But the moment that power play, he was removed from the first wave or just removed from the power play altogether. That's when, in the end of the last season, you really saw his play kind of dip out and even into the playoffs, it just wasn't there anymore. That momentum was gone. So there's definite holes in his game. And I see a lot of people freak out every time he plays center, like he's not going to be a center in the NHL. At least something would have to drastically change

11:38for that to happen. He's better suited for the wing. They like to try different players at centers. Heck, Ivan Demadov was tried at center. Right? It's normal. The only thing I would say is he's got to be able to play the same way the highlight reels throw him playing on the power play. But at five on five. And that comes with defensive awareness that comes with effort level that comes with, you know, just being able to be to making the right decisions, perhaps being a little bit less risky, like, you know, taking less penalties, taking less bad penalties. Those are the kinds of things that allow you to get your coaches trust at five on five. And that's really the crux of when you get your minutes, right? You look at a guy like Ivan Demadov, if he wasn't playing for Roman Rottenberg and if they weren't playing the whole politics situation in the KHL, you know, when his post draft year. Like he had, you know, towards the end of the season into the playoffs because when they needed him, they used him profusely because he was that special of a talent. Zorowski has to prove that he could be that at 5 on 5, not just on the power play. And I think that's where that's where that level of development has to happen because the issue is you don't get to see a lot of KHL games out here. A lot of people will see the highlight reels. I assume that he's dominating or, you know, especially remember last year with Zorowski, I've thrown out the halfway point of the season. He was neck and neck with Demidov. But the ice time was like five minutes higher. That's what I'm talking about, right? It's situational. And so each is a case by case basis, not simply on the prospect themselves, but on the prospect and which team they're playing for and what that team's aspirations are. And so I strongly believe

14:46that if Zorowski wants to at least improve on his season totals from last year because if he platos or regresses, it would be disastrous. He wants to improve on what happened from last year. Then I strongly, I think where it happens is his two way commitment and definitely going to be his effort level because if he can, if he can add those layers to his game, then he'd be undeniable, even as an extremely young talent in the KHL. That's why you got to watch the games, right? What's the definition of highlight? It's why it's a highlight. You're watching a guy dangling, you're watching a guy score a goal, right? Again, the skills are undeniable, Sean. Undeniable. He's got great hands, great one-on-one skill, great vision. But we've seen players like that have those attributes and not be able to put it together. But to your point, right? Or in North America? To your point though, you see that in the highlight pack. But as you know, as well as most of the audience, the devil's in the details to speak in a cliche term. What are you doing when you don't have the puck? Where's your body? Are you reading the play, right? The situation of the

15:49details within the game. And it's interesting, you look at Zorowski's kind of variance. 16 goals in 59 games in the regular season, 10 playoff games, Roof, last season, and had no goals, and just to assist, right? And that's why I listen. I don't know. I wasn't privy. I didn't have behind the scenes access to watch him this summer skate with Demidov when the guys were here training back in July, right? But sometimes it reminds me of Kurt Schilling, former MLB pitcher, you used to tell this story about in his early days. There are a lot of guys at the pro level that get to the pros based on just this sheer god-given talent. You're just that good. And then you get to the highest level and you're like, oh, oh, talent can take me so far. And that's where I just choose to believe. Maybe it's wishful thinking in my part that Ivan Demidov being the hockey maniac like Lane Hudson, that when you see a star, a superstar caliber player work relentlessly every single day, either you buy in, you're like, oh, I have no other choice because look how good this guy is

16:53with his god-given talent and look how hard he's still working. I have to believe wishful thinking on my part granted that that has to rub off on Alexander Zorovsky. If I want to make it to the show and I want to stay in the show and I want to be a star player, a household name and Montreal, there's two guys in Hudson and Demidov, Marco, that have set the bar. It's up to me to match it if not surpass it. And he got a good glimpse of what's required at this level to the skill to is off the charts. So I got to believe that somewhat contagious, a very strong lesson essentially. I 100% agree. 100% you get that rub even just watching them. It's infectious and players around the team have already talked about it. Again, it's a big see. I again still believe that Alexander Zorovsky is a top six player. I think that if he puts it together 5 on 5, he can be close to 0.75 per game in the KHL, which would be excellent for a 19-20 year old. So before we get on this, he made Uf as roster, but

18:02you know, Zorovsky spent time on their fourth line in the preseason. That's not by chance. Those are messages that are sent. But even though he didn't fill up the score sheet, Zorovsky you saw elements of his game where he was playing with a little bit more vigor, a little bit more roundedness to his game, a little bit more effort. That's what those are the baby steps you want for a coach like Victor Kauseloff to believe in you so that he uses you more in regular settings, right? When you start cutting the bench in the KHL, they cut the bench when they're losing games, you know, in the third period. You see it more in the NHL, like it towards the end of the season, in the playoffs, in the KHL, like right away for his game of the season, they start cutting the bench if they're losing. It's, you have to be able to earn the trust of the coach. And what I'm about to say is not a dig at the Canadian's current coaching staff, but they're as demanding. Right? Marta Saint-Louis demands it. Yeah. Right? You need to be able to cover your own end before

19:08you can properly impact the game positively on the offensive side. You may score in bunches. We've seen it before, like Zachary Budzerk at the beginning of the season last year, but when the details aren't there from a defensive standpoint, and you're not effective when the puck is not on your stick, well then the puck's not going to get on your stick and you're not going to be able to produce offensively unless you play on the first wave of power play. So this is why I'm saying it's best he learned these lessons now. And this is why I've said all summer, Zherowski needs another year in the KHL at least. I do believe, I do believe that eventually, it could be this summer if he improves continues to improve. It could be sorry the spring of 2027, but this is why I always pump the brakes a little bit and say there is a world where he could extend for a year and benefit maybe from an additional year in the KHL. And then coming over the same way for example that a guy like Danila Yurov did for a team like the Minnesota

20:11Wilde and now he's playing in their top six. And the other thing to consider is if they do Zherowski, that would exempt him, for example, from the expansion draft. You kind of led me into like where I was what I was thinking about on the topic of Alexander Zorovsky. Like if we just take one half of the best case worst case scenario game, everybody plays and we just focus on the best case scenario. Stay positive on Zorovsky, right? As you pointed out, 16 goals, 42 points and 59 regular season games for roof on the KHL, 10 playoff games to assists. So if we just riff off the best case scenario that, you know,

22:20those point total those goal numbers increase a nice little bump. What's the what's the thought process behind does Vinnie Lecaville and other members of the Habsfront Office get on a plane and go out over to to Russian. He gets the demi-daw kind of treatment that he comes over prematurely. I mean, is that is that the best case scenario that his season production wise gets a nice bump off of last year and the Canadians look at this and say, well, undeniable, we need him here for the spring and the playoffs. Like they did what like they did with demi-daw and he got five games against Washington. The thing with demi-daw is his contract was coming to an end. Yeah, and they hadn't they hadn't had him in Montreal. So they went to visit him in Russia because first of all, they wanted to talk shop with with Scott and basically just be like, hey, you know, like what's going on here. Right. But at the same time, they wanted to show that they really, really wanted him. And you know, that obviously is going to be something that

23:22demi-daw remembers, right? And clearly, he signed the eight-year extension the first within the first 12 hours that he possibly could. So you, you know, I'll never forget it, but Caprizov used to say this that the Minnesota wild under Fletcher didn't really show him much interest. In the moment that Bill Garin took over, he was jumping through hoops to try and get in contact with him and and show how interested the wild were and that really that really impacted him positively and in deciding to sign with the wild and come over. Well, the same thing applied with with with Demadov, I don't think that that's what would happen with Jorovsky. I felt like I think the Canadians thought that Ivan Demadov was NHL ready the moment they drafted him or at least very close to. Right. And they wanted to get him into Montreal or at least under their control from a developmental standpoint as quickly as possible. I I think with Jorovsky, there's a little bit of hesitation with Russian players to want to come over to North America and

24:28play in the American Hockey League just because it's such a it's such a the the paid disparity between NHL salary on an entry level contract and playing in the NHL is ridiculous. You're going from making like a million dollars to a hundred thousand dollars. It's a big drop off. So why not if you're going to be making that kind of money, why not do it at home in the KHL and and get good minutes while you're doing it. So that's the thought process and that's why I think Jorovsky is a really big season ahead of him to prove people right that he could be a more complete player and impact the game in all situations at least in at even strength and then on the power play. Let's maybe not on the penalty kill, but if if he can demonstrate a jump, then it would lead one to believe that the Canadians could try to pull the same thing they did with Demadov and see if they can get him to come earlier by the end of the season. My only concern with that is roster space

25:30because you're already probably going to have Michael H coming in. Right. But at the same time, if he does continue to develop that way, he could make for an interesting trade piece if the Canadians need a top prospect to go and get a top six for him. I guess the takeaway for me on today's episode right is again the sheer fact of how special a talent Ivan Demidov is. You know, when you touched on when he was drafted, they felt if he was NHL ready, he was knocking on the door being NHL ready and then lo and behold, look what he did in his full first full rookie season as a much reall kidding. And then you riff off the comments from Christopher Lattang that came out, you know, last week about how special of a player he thinks he's going to be, you know, what did he say, two years, given two years, three years could be one of the top players in the national hockey league, right? So, and I think the other takeaway for me and, you know, inject your own opinion here on my read on this is specifically, Alexander Zorowski, it sounds to me comes across me and not being negative by any stretch, but my read is also count super like we're just chilling,

26:36letting it play out, see how he does, you know, guys played 17 playoff games in his KHL career, hasn't played 80 pro Russian games yet in his career playoffs included and he's got no goals in 17 playoff games. So it's just like, just take a step back and like kind of like just gear down on the hype train a bit. Yeah, like there's two ways I view it as two ways. He was definitely a player that should have been picked higher than where he was. Okay, yeah, picked a 34th, it would have been in the top 20 easily, right? I think that's fair to say, but even players that are picked top 20 that takes them two to three years to get into the NHL. So I think you should afford him that same level of patience because one of the reasons why he fell to 34 wasn't just simply the Russian factor or the lack of physical viewings. It's also the fact that he was physically raw, right? And he's slowly building up his body and once, you know, the he's becomes a little bit

27:38more physically mature, you have to understand, at the moment of his draft, Ivan Demadov had 20 pounds on him. They're the same height. I think now Zorovsky's maybe an inch taller, half an inch taller, but that's a major physical difference, right? And you see the two of them, I've been next to both standing right next to them. Ivan is like a tank, and I think I'm thicker than Alex, right? So like, that's why I'm saying he, like that development is natural. It will happen. It's not something to worry about, but I just, it's always good to have these conversations about the Canadian's top Russian prospects just to kind of bring it back down. I, again, I've stated before and I'll continue to say it again. I believe that Alexander Zorovsky has top, the top six talent all day every day. His hands, his vision, his execution, the offensive part of his game is undeniable. It's the rest of it. Gleb is the one that I am unsure of in terms of where he eventually slots in. I think it's far more likely that he's a bottom six energy player that teams spend first

28:43round picks on at the trade deadline to put them over the top. Well, the Canadians decided to draft one that they believed, and this is something I was told, you know, shortly after they drafted him, that they believe was closer to the NHL than a lot of people believe. And I think it's because they're not expecting him to blow the roof off offensively, but they're expecting him to blow the roof off energy-wise. And that's what they want to continue to develop. So if that's the case, and you want to help develop him more offensively, you know, especially with the comments that were made about, you know, being able to negotiate through his contract. That's right. I wouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't be surprised if Torpedo was just like, hey, you know, what do you mean by that? So we'll see what happens. I think the season is long. There will be opportunity. And with that opportunity, you'll see, you know, at that point, how they'll develop. Because again, you could panic that they're in the, the NHL right now, like, like Pugichov is in the NHL right now,

29:46but playing 16, 17 minutes a game, or he could make the KHL roster, and we could spend our, I could spend my days watching folks playing online that he was playing only three to four minutes, exactly. Which is also very normal in the KHL. So at the end of the day, I don't, you know, the instant gratification isn't what you're going to be looking for with a guy like Pugichov. You're going to be looking at the long-term vision, and that's exactly what the Canadians are doing. We're getting that much closer to the Montreal Canadians training camp. We'll dive in coming up this weekend on the Montreal Canadians roster, and specifically zone in on the four position players and what's going on as we, as of this recording, Zachary Bulldog remains a restricted free agent with the Montreal Canadians. No long-term, short-term security yet for Zachary Bulldog. But if that should happen, and we expect that it will, what does that mean for the roster?
