You're listening to Bill Handel,
on demand from KFI AM640.
I'm going to tell you all about something I know nothing about.
Which, by the way, usually happens on this show,
but at least I have some experience when I tell you
in terms of studying, in terms of analyzing,
in terms of diving into a topic.
This one, I don't have the foggiest ocean
of what any of this means.
What is the magic number when it comes to close friends?
In my case, zip, zero, goose egg.
And now, handle on the news.
Ladies and gentlemen, here's Bill Handel.
It is a Thursday morning, March 26th.
Good morning, everybody.
We are our second, last day.
Oh, well-coast drivers on the phone.
And we have a, what do you think you are, me?
You can't do that during the course of the show.
I'm just on the phone to hear you.
My microphone is fine, but I can't hear the station.
Seriously?
I don't think that's the high-tech operation, everybody.
Oh, yeah.
Believe me.
He's at a different location.
He'll talk.
Yeah, just to be honest, yeah.
You know, we don't give many tours of the studio
because all of our equipment has tubes in it.
All the amplifiers.
To be fair, I'm not there.
I'm at our Long Beach Bureau.
So yeah, it's a little different.
A Long Beach Bureau.
Yeah, I'm not very official.
Yeah, it's a closet.
That is rented and closet.
That's the Long Beach closet tour.
Yes.
All right, well, hello, there's Will.
I mean, are you listening to the show on the phone?
Seriously?
For the moment.
For the moment.
OK, all right.
There are enough.
We're working on it.
Amy, good morning.
L.A. Dodgers?
Yes.
Go Blues.
Yeah, there it is.
Your Go Blues shirts.
You know, I like about talking to you
because you're clothing exemplifies
exactly what you are thinking.
Normally, I would wear nothing
because I think of nothing.
And I would be bare-chested.
But I have such body dysmorphia.
There is even, like, there's no chance.
It's not dysmorphia.
It's just morphia.
That's so true.
That's so true.
God, you know, there was one time when I wore something
that was fairly obvious to what my body looked like.
I have a lot of hair on my chest.
And people were writing and saying,
gee, it's bill wearing your sweater.
There was a lot of fun, ridiculous stuff.
All right, Kono, good morning.
You're giving me the look.
That's not a good morning.
Thinking of your hair.
Yeah, I know.
The visual is very, very tough.
Yeah, I mean, all of it.
No, I know I get that.
I get that.
Oh, you're gray and white.
Wow, that's, that's where the term jubaka came from.
Yeah, that's really funny.
Let's not forget gravity is part of the formula here, too,
which doesn't add to my beauty.
Okay, Neil, good morning.
Waiting for the term bell ringers to come up.
Yes, I wasn't even going to go there this time around,
but okay, good morning, bell ringers.
All right, fair enough.
And Amy, good morning.
Oh, hi again.
Okay, I'm an Ann.
Good morning.
Good morning.
You both start with a Padres shirt.
Of course.
Oh, God, I love this.
Is that a thing?
No, I used to be, I used to be a Dodgers fan,
but I was pretty young at the time.
Well, let me throw some names out at you, Amy.
Okay.
Jim Gilliam, okay.
Duke Snyder, Don Drysdale, Sandy Kofax, Mori Willes.
Okay, Mori Willes.
Okay, just, that's how, that is how dated I am when I was a
Brooklyn Dodgers, almost, listen, almost.
I think they came to Los Angeles in 1955,
if I'm not mistaken.
Hey, that's your Disneyland open.
Yeah, I did.
That's right.
That's right.
Okay, and they, they sneaked out of Brooklyn,
like thieves in the night.
These, yeah, because it was, oh, yeah, it was, it'd be crazy.
People don't like it when you leave their town.
No, what was it?
Baltimore went insane when the, the cults moved out overnight without announcing.
They just pack up everything and move,
because people going to get killed.
People are fanatic about their guys.
Well, in,
in Seno was thrilled when you moved Orange County.
Yeah, pretty much.
Okay, guys, it is time.
Let's do it.
On the news on this Thursday morning with Amy, with Neil, with me, lead story.
It comes up right here now.
It looks like if you're in the Iranian leadership,
you've got to be sweating bullets because you're going to be receiving bullets.
The Israeli military killed the naval commander of the revolutionary guard
in overnight attack and he was in an apartment hideout in southern Iran
with other revolutionary guard officers at the time of the attack.
And he's just the latest guy out there.
It, this goes to show you how sophisticated the intelligence is that Israel has.
You talk about, and, and one of the officials said,
and we talked about this last couple of days, that the Israel is so embedded
in virtually all aspects of the intelligence, the army,
probably not the clerics, but everybody else.
And people getting killed left, right in the center.
It's like, come on, you know, it's a, you know, walk around, you're going to die.
Okay, defiant in the midst of destruction, Iran has rejected a 15 point plan
presented by the US to end the fighting.
And instead it launched more attacks on Israel and Arab countries,
including strikes that hit a fuel tank at the Kuwait international airport.
That sparked a fire.
Iran's foreign minister says his government has not engaged in talks to end the war.
And he says, we do not plan on any negotiations.
Of course, Pakistan is saying that US and Iran negotiators are in indirect talks now.
Yeah, the toe is in the water.
However, the 15 point plan that the president proposed,
complete non-starter as far as Iran is concerned.
I mean, complete, give up the missile production, give up the atomic weapons.
Well, that one I think is, that I think they might go for,
but paying money, supporting these proxy terrorist groups around the world,
ain't going to happen.
They're just not.
And so I think the president said a little bit of trouble here, a lot of trouble,
because you can't go forward and say, we've won the war.
We've obliterated their nuclear program.
And then two weeks later, saying we're going to obliterate it.
We are going to force them to give it up and give up what you've obliterated it already.
There, there's a lot of mixed messaging going on.
And if you're looking at the approval ratings with the president,
it is sinking like crazy.
They are, they have to be scrambling at the White House, have to be there.
This is not going well.
So we'll see what happens.
This is now week four.
Is this the start of week four for the war?
I think it is at this point.
We've gone a full three weeks for it in the week four.
And the president has said, this will be four to six weeks.
And what happens after that seven weeks?
Yeah, that's true.
Week seven.
And then you're going to ask, wait a second, what happened to four to six weeks?
And then it will be a total deflection on that one.
So this is not boating well, not only for the president,
because it doesn't matter for him.
He just wants to win under any circumstances.
And I talk about win elections because it doesn't have any more for the Republican party.
If this thing continues, you are going to see Republicans jumping off of that messaging
like a sinking ship.
Otherwise, they're almost guaranteed to not be reelected or to not be elected.
Okay.
All right.
So a decision has been made landmark verdict.
We had been talking about this Instagram YouTube.
Are they designed to addict kids?
Well, after seven weeks of court proceedings, more than 40 hours of tense deliberations.
Boom, boom.
Yeah.
Guess they are.
But yeah, this with this jury says, yeah, but not much, uh, not much money like no, drop
in the bucket.
That's a million.
Yeah.
This is money.
This is money they find in the between the cushions in their waiting room on the couch.
Why so low?
Because they that was the compensatory.
That was that that was the damages, uh, though that word, those were the damages that the
jury came up with.
Some juries go crazy.
Punitive damages.
I don't think punies kicked into this and punitive damages on the other case $375 million.
It was just going to be brought down.
It's not the money on this one at all.
So it's whether this is a bill, whether because there are thousands of cases that have
been filed.
Oh, there's going to be tons more now.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, this is it's going to it's it's basically big tobacco, uh, which, uh, wrote out, uh,
I checked for what $75 billion.
That was a lot of years ago when $75 billion was real money, not today, which is, yeah,
what's the fake industry is stoked that they're not being looked at.
Everyone's focusing on this.
Better bring your snickers because it's going to be a while transportation security administration
says it's experiencing the longest wait times ever in its 24 year history because of the
ongoing partial shutdown.
Uh, they were testifying, uh, before house committee yesterday wait times at some of the
airports, according to the testimony, I've exceeded four hours call out rates at those
places of 40 to 50%.
And uh, McNeil, uh, how when McNeil told the government, uh, or the House Homeland Security
Committee that if this partial government shutdown continues into Friday, TSA will have
missed almost a billion dollars in paychecks.
Yeah, it's not so much the amount of money.
It's, uh, the number of people who are not getting the paychecks and how many of them have
to quit.
And they're supplementing their income by selling blood, for example, or sleeping at the
airport.
Uh, this, the political, uh, the political aspects of this crazy on this one.
And we'll see who's going to get the blame for this.
Uh, I think both parties have to get the blame with the Democrats are saying is listen,
let's just fund TSA and leave everything and we'll talk about everything else.
And the administration and the Republicans based on what Donald Trump, of course, says,
uh, say nope, not until you give us, uh, the Save America Act, which has to do with
uh, voting, uh, and security at the voting booth.
So I, you know, it's, I don't think it's a good connection, although, uh, the Democrats
are saying, uh, liquid ice is doing, uh, at, uh, the various schools and the way they're
enforcing.
So I just leave it alone and, you know, the American public is dying here in terms of flying.
I mean, you know, four or five hours or eight, do you see some of the news reports when
the news reporters come up and there's the five hour line and people are saying, well,
I was here yesterday and I stood in line for four hours, but I missed my flight.
Uh, it's just insanity.
It really is.
On that note, a small addition to that is how when McNeil, uh, TSA's, uh, head honcho said
that the TSA is looking now at the possibility again of shutting down airports we've heard
that before.
So far, yeah, so far hasn't happened, but that is in addition to.
So the homeless have gone underground quite literally.
City crews were, uh, about to weld, shut a manhole cover in South LA.
And then someone said, Hey, there's someone down there.
Oh boy.
And then a few seconds later, a man climbed out of the manhole carrying with him a pink
polka dot roller suitcase and walked off.
That's important.
The color of the suitcase.
I like that part of the story.
That's from the other times.
Yeah, that is.
And so that people were saying there's people living down there.
There's one they did.
And they've been complaining about it for quite some time, which is why the welders were
there.
But, uh, welcome to, uh, uh, Southern California, welcome to Los Angeles, specifically.
Okay.
I did build little put pillows in the potholes.
Uh, yeah.
And we'll homeless into the potholes, sir, the pillows and potholes program.
I like it.
It's got to catch your name.
Supreme court says the internet service providers aren't liable for bootleg music downloads.
That's basically the just of it.
So, um, there's a lot of legal ins and outs that you may love in this handle.
But really, if the music companies that hold all the rights to all this music, I mean,
Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, M&M, Eric Clapton, all these different, uh,
you know, music brands, um, this actually would tie, uh, responsibility to Eve, it
could tie it to a college that has people using the computers at college.
Yeah.
If they had one, if the spring court went the other way, uh, these internet service providers
would have a very, very difficult time functioning the way they do now.
The argument was infringement to, uh, because there were, there was bootleg music, uh, being
played on their platform and the lawsuit was you allowed this to happen.
Therefore, you are guilty of complicity in the, uh, copyright infringement.
The lawsuit, uh, I mean, the case is not against someone who puts, uh, music on, uh, the
internet.
I mean, that could be copyright infringement.
If I put, for example, Beyonce's music on, I put it on, I'm, I'm, uh, infringing
on her copyright.
But the lawsuit was saying that the, uh, the platform I'm putting it on is also liable
and the court said, no, uh, they would just say the argument was it would wreak havoc.
And that's true.
Because the unanimous decision, a unanimous decision, I think we have time for one more.
You can be all that you can be and be older now too.
The US Army is raising the maximum enlistment age to 42.
And also has, uh, gotten rid of, uh, a barrier to potential recruits who have a legal conviction
for marijuana or drug paraphernalia possession, if you only have just one.
The previous, uh, ceiling for enlisting was 35.
And now it's 42.
I'm going to do that story because there are lots of parts of this one, uh, it, it has
a lot to do with the defense of this country too.
And what's happening currently and who and what and where and where the, uh, the services
are saying, oh my god, we, we, we need help.
All right.
As you heard, Amy, say during the news, uh, the sad story of a 46 year old woman killed
by a rattlesnake bite in Ventura County.
If you're familiar with that area of 1000 oaks, beautiful area, uh, it's the wildwood regional
park.
Man, I've hiked that place a bazillion times.
It's gorgeous.
Had a fort there when I was a kid, we'd go through that fort and run out there to Baronka
and all the water there.
Well, it turns out that Gabriel, uh, Bautista, she's a resident in a more park, which is
right, you know, right down from 1000 oaks there.
Reportally, it was bitten while hiking on a trail there and, uh, she was airlifted
to Los Robles there, the main regional medical center.
And, um, she passed away.
If Venom toxicity, uh, took her and just a sad story of the heat is bringing what normally
comes out during the summertime, uh, snakes, it's bringing them out now to the forefront.
Yeah, fort is it nine people have been bitten so far this year for the last two weeks.
Yeah.
Reminds me of a joke that, uh, we can't say, I can't tell you on the air.
Oh, well, thanks.
Uh, no, it's, it's a good one, uh, because it's like, well, you know, no, okay, moving
on.
The cicadas are coming.
A couple of weeks.
Kill you all the time.
Where?
This is why I'm telling you do not hike.
Okay.
Do not hike.
You know, do, do what I do.
Do my, you know, I, I do my afternoon job and I'm going to suggest you do the same thing.
Okay.
The cicadas are coming and we're not talking about the insect.
It's the COVID kind of cicada.
The CDC and the WHO are monitoring B a three point two nicknamed cicada.
It's a highly mutated variant of COVID-19.
It's been found in wastewater across many states in the US and in more than 20 countries.
It has been found in California.
It's making up about 30% of the cases in some areas experts say the current vaccines may
be less effective at preventing infection, but do still protect against severe disease.
Yeah.
Uh, are you frightened of spiders, many chance Amy and I'm not so much.
Yeah.
And you're frightened of spiders well, then this story is for you.
Enjoy this one.
Okay.
Okay.
Thank you.
The only thing worse than a venomous spider is a venomous spider that spins a web like
a balloon so it can float over to you.
These normally take place in the northeastern US, but they're on their return.
They are creating a new infestation, spreading even deeper into the country than ever before.
They're pretty, but they're big, you know, about the size of a pond, maybe, and they
kill you.
No, they don't.
Well, anything can kill them.
Well, they're venomous.
They are venomous.
Yes, they are venomous.
They make these say like.
But it doesn't mean they're necessarily, they don't, you're right.
They're not aggressive.
Jorah spiders, bright yellow body, blue stripes, red markings, making them hard to miss.
Hopefully, males can be spotted by their more brownish color and smaller size by that
tricks.
Native to China.
Yeah.
Came here in 2014.
Thanks, China.
Thanks, Obama.
Yeah.
And much like a modern society, they occasionally eat their male counterparts, okay.
Not so fast.
The White House has delayed nominating a new director for the Centers for Disease,
Control, and Prevention as it continues to search for a new CDC director.
In the meantime, the responsibility of leading the agent agency will stay with Jay Botticaria.
He's the head of the National Institutes of Health and has been the acting CDC director.
But because of rules that he can't be the acting director for very much longer, that expires
on.
And here's the problem that they're having is because you've got Robert Kennedy that
only wants a anti-vaxxer who is to be head of the CDC.
Since the Senate has to confirm that person, the Senate is saying, no, that's not going
to happen.
You've got Kennedy who is saying, no, I'm not going to put someone who doesn't believe
as I believe.
And so there's a between a rock and a hard place.
And now we've got temporary CDC heads that are probably, this may go on for the entire
term of Donald Trump.
Literally.
CDC had, I think, a good for what, 150 days, 120 days.
So every 120 days we have a new one because I can't take a chance of going in front of
the Senate.
I'll just say no.
No, thanks.
Bill Cassidy, who is Louisiana Senator, who is a boy that he feels, I'm sure he feels
great.
He was a deciding vote to place Robert Kennedy into his position.
And Bill Cassidy was not only an advocate of vaccinations, he ran programs in Louisiana
as a medical doctor for vaccinations.
And Kennedy promised him that he would keep the vaccine programs alive and moving.
And then literally on the way out of the hearing room, he went ahead and did the opposite.
And so they were saying, no, this time around ain't going to confirm because Kennedy is
nuts.
Because Kennedy is crazy.
Oh, really?
Only one cabinet member crazy.
All right.
This next story is interesting because I grew up in the 70s and 80s and this wouldn't have
been illegal.
This would have been, this one would have been applauded.
You got this Utah mother.
She was charged with kidnapping and aggravated child abuse.
There was this 11 year old boy who was bullying her child.
So she went, looked for him, grabbed him, brought him in her car, drove him to her house and
made him apologize to her son.
And now she's, yeah, and is applauding 100%.
Right.
Don't just go.
It's like, that's so what I would do.
Yeah.
Why not?
She seems like a hero in my book.
But now she's getting nailed.
How about drop kicking him across the room?
You know, that's violent.
This is not.
This is just like, hey, I'm going to save you a bus ticket.
I'm going to take you to my kid and you can apologize and then I'm going to drop your
yourself back off and everything.
Obviously, it's a different world.
But do you think it would be more appropriate, assuming that this is okay for this all
to happen in front of his parents or does she do this on her own and that's, that's
okay.
And I don't know you with the details in your lawyer room.
This is just, you know, all right, fair enough.
One more.
And now the kids got emotional damage, not like when he bullied people.
All right.
This one's just for you, Bill.
Representative Brian Mast of Florida has introduced legislation to rename Palm Beach
International Airport as Donald J. Trump International Airport.
Wow.
Now, that's on the, that's at the US House level.
But last month, Republicans in the Florida House and Senate both passed that legislation
to rename the airport.
Governor DeSantis has not signed it and it would need approval by the FAA.
Yeah, which is controlled by, of course, the executive branch.
So what is the, what is the chances?
I'll tell you why it's not going to happen that quickly because they're now working
on renaming the federal aviation administration, the Donald Trump federal administration.
And that has to happen first before it can be the airport.
And don't forget, it's the Donald Trump rent a car rent, rent a lot, also, yeah, you're
right.
Don't you, is there, is there a limit at all?
It is there ever a limit?
No, no, no limit.
And I got to tell you, sometimes I wake up and I think this is the alternate universe
that Biff got the sports Almanac and all is running to hell and not person got that reference.
That's okay.
Biff got this.
Yeah, I mean, that's not going to change our life around.
And you know, Iran is a problem.
The economy is a problem.
You know, that's actually legitimate discussion.
This, this just that's entertainment.
That's all I just, I'm enjoying the hell out of this.
And if a democratic president comes into power, which I think is going to happen,
the next presidential election, does the democratic president unravel all of this?
And I don't know the answer to that.
Or does it stay where it's Donald Trump in certain name of these agencies and buildings
and currencies? And I just don't know the answer.
Okay, I think we can finish up with the next one.
Okay, as part of LA's desire to keep every small business old and new out of LA,
we're now looking at the actual closing of Cole's French dip.
They announced closures coming back and forth back and forth.
This time, apparently, for real, they're going to shut down.
And why is that?
Is the rent going up?
Or they had issues with, listen, man, that the food industry,
the everything in LA sucks for small businesses, especially food.
And after 118 years of business, everything they've gone through, you just can't live in modern times.
So you'll have to go to Philippe, which is fantastic.
But the two battled for supremacy when it came to the French dip and who created it.
And I used to have the varnish, which was a great speak-easy there and great food.
And now it's going away for good along with.
Yeah, that's too bad because I really like the French dip.
I mean, the neighborhood is not so wonderful.
Is it right across the street?
Is Cole's or Philippe right across the street from Union Station and Alvaro Street?
Is that it?
Gosh, no, that would be Philippe's.
Yeah, also good.
I mean, those two are right there on and off.
Yeah, the others like in the downtown area too.
Yeah, I mean, it's all a very difficult area to walk in without getting killed.
Yeah, pretty much.
All right, we are done.
And now a story that I'm going to share with you, this is a big one.
And this is the legal decision that just came down.
They could literally change social media for all of us.

Run a business and not thinking about podcasting?
Think again.
More Americans listen to podcasts
than add supported streaming music from Spotify and Pandora.
And as the number one podcaster,
IHART's twice as large as the next two combine.
So whatever your customers are into,
true crime, sports, comedy, culture,
they'll hear your message.
Plus, only IHART can extend your message
to audiences across broadcast radio.
And all this reach means everything.
Just think about the universal marketing formula.
The number of consumers who hear your message
times the response rate equals the results.
Now, let's get those results growing for you.
