It's flowery South African on your 702 weekend break first, the D'Tapello by Malay taking
0:07
us to 19 minutes before 9 o'clock. And that's how we kick off our first happening in
0:12
702 land because coming up in just a couple of hours is the D'Tapello experience that Malay
0:23
is bringing to the John Ghani theatre and to tell us about this evening's performance,
0:29
which we're joined on the line by Malay. Malay, a very good morning to you. Good to have you
0:33
back on weekend break first. The top of the morning to you to thank you so much for having me
0:38
go with a real pleasure to be able to talk to you this morning. Yeah, so for lovers of your music,
0:45
people who love the D'Tapello tonight is an opportunity to experience your most recent album.
0:52
Tell us about the D'Tapello experience. So yeah, I'm so excited. Finally the day is here and we
1:02
will be at the market theatre tonight and I'll be putting up the first presentation of my
1:09
brand new album titled D'Tapello. And you know, the wonderful thing for me about it is that it's
1:16
my first gospel album and me really putting Jesus Christ at the centre of my messaging and my music
1:24
and I'm just really excited so far with the response that we've received from just all of my
1:30
followers and supporters of the music for all these years and I think people are excited about
1:37
the sound and that it still sounds very much like the Malay that you've known over the years.
1:43
Yeah, it's kind of maintained the soulfulness which is what is different about it as a gospel
1:49
experience and so I'm extremely excited about the live band just experience of it that is obviously
1:56
a first time. Yeah, at a beautiful venue as well, I think the market theatre for me was one of
2:03
the choices that made sense as someone who has always wanted to put up a show and host a show
2:11
at such a historic venue. Yeah, you've previously in other interviews spoken about how
2:17
D'Tapello is probably one of the most personal albums that you created. It was also an album that
2:26
you were kind of thinking about or working on, you know, during your pregnancy and that brought
2:32
you closer to God. Tell us about why this album is so personal to you.
2:37
Well, you know, I think at least over the last couple of years I've just in my own personal
2:46
work with Christ and my spiritual enlightenment really have wanted to express that so much just
2:54
in terms of artistically being able to express this encounter that I've had and I, you know,
3:06
had a number of kind of trials and difficult times that I faced which really are other reasons
3:15
that brought me to a place where I needed to find myself on my knees and in conversation with God,
3:20
you know, really trying to understand the meaning of life, you know, and I think a lot of us when
3:25
we go through the difficulties that we face in life, it really forces us to ask those deeper
3:32
questions and so particularly during the pregnancy I had previously gone through three miscarriages
3:42
and so it was a time in my life where I really was holding onto my face and in every song,
3:48
you know, there are moments where I'm just trying to express how I'm depending on this very
3:55
faithful and wonderful God, you know. And my son turns a year old and in a week from now and I
4:02
just really, I'm in a place where the album comes out at the perfect time where it's all just
4:08
a testimony for me and I just want to encourage people in general just to find that place
4:15
and space in their lives to make God the center of it all. Yeah and so for you, I see you also
4:21
describe, you know, it's been described this concert this evening as a return to South. Tell us
4:28
about that. Well, you know, I think if there's one thing that I've just come to understand about
4:35
life and the mistakes that we make as people is that we generally have it in our minds that we
4:43
are in control and that it is within our own power, you know, the plans that we make and that we
4:51
have in mind for our lives. We are so. I guess just it kind of feels like sometimes we're a little
4:59
bit delusional about this experience of life in thinking that we determine what it should be
5:09
and really I think that coming back to South is coming to a place where coming back to my creator
5:16
is what then allows me to fulfill that self, that purpose that I was actually created for and
5:23
I think it's something that is something we need to consider in life and to reconsider
5:30
rather those ideas that it is in your hands when it's not. I think these are the lessons that
5:38
has come to learn and and for me it's it's a coming into the woman that I was always
5:47
purposed to be and yeah, I just outlawed to encourage people to make that search a priority,
5:56
you know, so that you are really living out to the maximum of what you the full manifestation
6:03
of who you are meant to be. Yeah, so the show is taking place tonight at 730, it's at the John
6:10
Ghani theatre, if we're looking for tickets, where do we find them? Is it a kid friendly show?
6:17
Can you bring the kids or is it better perhaps for adults and older children?
6:24
So the market theatre, I think the age restriction is 16 and above, so unfortunately the
6:32
kids have to stay home tonight but I mean I think really I'm excited about this album in
6:39
particularly because it's one that I think sound wise is appealing to a younger market as well
6:46
and so, you know, I've got some of my nieces coming through and I just would encourage anybody who
6:53
has, you know, just someone younger that you would love to invite and have be part of the experience,
6:57
I think they would absolutely love both the messaging but the music as well as really, still
7:04
the beautiful soulful sounds and Malay that you know, so I think it's going to be absolutely
7:09
amazing, unfortunately no kids tonight, yeah. So if we're looking for tickets, where do we find those?
7:17
Tickets are available on web tickets and on all social platforms. I am Malay and
7:24
the score music and so you would find the ticket link as well online bio but your web tickets
7:30
is where we should be going to type the type of experience Malay and you will find the link there.
7:39
Great, Malay, I must thank you very much for your time today, all the best for the show tonight.
7:45
Thank you darling, thank you so much, I so appreciate it, thank you so much to Semolo too,
7:49
always for the support and the love and I know that you guys have been pushing the new music,
7:55
I really appreciate it, that bless you. Much, thank you, thank you, that is award-winning
