High-Speed Chase Shuts Down I-80 in Placer County
A wild chase shut down parts of Interstate 80 in Placer County on Friday morning.
California Highway Patrol started pursuing a vehicle that led right into the area and
they used spike strips to stop it, forcing a temporary closure.
Of the eastbound lanes west of Crystal Springs Road and westbound near Central Truckee.
Sheriff's office jumped in once the chase hit their turf, but even after the strips took
out the tires, the driver stayed put inside the car.
The standoff meant calling in more teams to get the personnel safely, and traffic backed
up big time for drivers just trying to get through.
The driver ended up at the hospital with injuries that aren't specified yet, and no one
saying why the pursuit kicked off in the first place.
Lanes are back open now, but it shows how these high-speed situations can grind everything
to a halt real quick.
