High technology provides lunch for Kenyan students

This kitchen changes the lives of poor kids in Kenya.

Here at Feeding the Future, cooks make some of the food that today will feed as many as ten thousand hungry kids.

Millions of children in Africa go to school on an empty stomach.

A lot of times they make the decision whether to go to school or look for food elsewhere.

Food for Education strives to solve this problem by providing low-cost nutritious meals so that children are able to stay in school and learn.

And here's where lunch goes high-tech with a bright orange bracelet called Tap2Eat, says group founder Wawira Njiru.

团队创始人瓦维拉·恩吉鲁表示，在这里午餐实现了高科技化，凭借一款名为“Tap2Eat”的亮橙色手环就能搞定。

Tap2Eat is a technology developed by Food for Education that enables parents to contribute fifteen shillings, fifteen cents for every meal.

Tap-to-Eat是Food for Education开发的技术，它使得父母只需花费十五先令、十五美分就可以为孩子们购买一份午餐。

We use it through mobile money which is quite prevalent in Kenya.

我们通过在肯尼亚相当普遍的移动支付使用它。

And through that, parents are able to top up easily the fifteen shillings for kids to get lunch with.

这样一来，家长们只需充值十五先令就可以让孩子们吃上一顿午餐。

And the children once they come to school, just Tap2Eat and get lunch under five seconds.

孩子们一到学校，只需要点击一下就可以在五秒内吃上午餐。

The school's principal says attendance is up and so too our median test scores.

学校校长表示，学生出勤率提高了，考试成绩中位数也提高了。

A parent named Lucy says the program changed her family's life.

When Tap2Eat wasn't available, we suffered a lot. Sometimes your child carries cold food. Sometimes you lack the money and your child has no lunch.

以前没有Tap2Eat的时候，我们吃了不少苦头。有时候孩子们只能带冰冷的食物去上学。有时候囊中羞涩，孩子就没有午餐。

Food for Education says it uses smart logistics to ensure they produce food sustainable while ensuring local farmers receive a reliable source of income.
