A 42-acre winery estate in St Helena with ties to Napa's pass is heading to auction

relisted in February last year.

and launched his wine brand.

After bankruptcy hit, Fred Franzea snagged the name in 1995 and turned it into the famous

two-butch chuck sold only at Trader Joe's, starting in 2002.

Later, in 1994, John and Ellen Benish scooped it up and poured money into upgrades.

Napa's wine scene is feeling the squeeze from weak demand, rising costs, and no solid

fruit contracts for many spots.

Buyers are picky with high interest rates and a shaky economy slowing things down since

2022.

The agent handling it calls the market tough, saying economics just don't add up for

a lot of these vineyards and wineries.

Shifting to auction is still rare here, but the listing pro sees it as a spark for price

discovery and fresh action.
