Macklencel Liberty sets the franchise record in points with a 115
as the sharks dominate the jets.
You're locked on sharks.
You're daily podcast on the San Jose sharks.
Part of the locked on podcast network.
Your team every day.
Hello, my name is JD Young and on today's episode of Locked On Sharks.
We're going to talk about kind of what's next for both the sharks and the podcast here.
We're going to talk about why the future really is teal after an explosion of production
from everybody 23 and under basically.
But we have to start with today, of course, Macklencel Liberty,
who.
What else can you say about Macklencel?
Pretty at this point, right?
Macklencel Liberty sets the franchise record with points in a season at a 115
as he scores a goal.
It has to assist the sharks again when six to one over the jets.
The sharks franchise is just.
It's in great hands, like legitimately in great hands with Macklencel Liberty.
And you know, going back to this off season.
And like I'm actually tomorrow's all access episode if you don't have all access.
Great time tomorrow is going to be me looking back at like my preseason predictions
and seeing what I got right when I got wrong.
I thought like if we were sitting here at this time talking about how Macklencel
Liberty had a 90 point season, like we were going to be talking about like,
man, what a breakout campaign for celebrity, right?
What can he do next?
And he maybe hit a hundred next year type of thing.
Yeah.
I got that wrong.
I actually, I got that right right and wrong.
I mean, that's what I got wrong at this time.
I don't know what to do next.
I have credit there.
But I mean, Joe Thornton puts out a video right saying we're like,
I thought I would at least keep it for a couple more years.
Or at least until you got you weren't a teenager anymore and celebrity does it
in his second year.
Right.
Whenever like any of these stats that it's Macklencel Liberty, right?
Back to celebrity.
Sydney Crosby, like naming like legitimately all-time grace in the same sentence, you know,
Celebrity having the 18, three, three points or more games in a season, the most sense Wayne
Graski who had 19. Right, Michael Celebrity becoming the first teenager to have 40 or more
goals in 70 or more assists in a season sense, Wayne Gratski. Yeah, that guy from the commercials,
Wayne Jetski, he was elected to the Hall of Fame. I don't know, that commercial, I don't know why,
it gets me every time. We're talking about that type of start to a career for Macbun celebrating,
where he's doing things that haven't been done since the greatest player to ever play,
and the greatest player of this last generation, a player who legitimately helped save the NHL
between Sydney Crosby and then, of course, Obechkin and his run to the goal record. But that's
the start of the career, and there's, you know, it was celebrating, there's a legitimate chance
where he could have like the top 10, like this could be end up being like number 10 for him
over the next 10 seasons, if he stays healthy and continues to do what we expect him to do.
Like there's a legitimate chance that Celebrity holds all 10 of the top 10 scoring records for
the San Jose Sharks and has a season where he's putting up 151.60 where he just goes absolutely
bonkers in a season, like goes a full McDavid type of production that we've seen, maybe not that high,
but like you get what I'm saying, we're still just scratching the surface of what Macbun
Celebrity is going to be in the fact that he is already in this sort of echelon in the franchise,
and in the NHL landscape, you know, every year the lockdown NHL, like we do a top 100 rankings,
you know, like every season for every sport, right, we do a top 100 rankings that the baseball one
just came out right before, like the NHL, like the NFL will have one in August, September,
right before the season starts, and same thing with the NHL, well you will have a top 100 ranking
heading into this next NHL season, and is Celebrity the eighth ninth 10th best player already in the NHL
like legitimately, like he's already in that discussion, and we're just finishing year two,
it can't even buy a beer yet here in the United States yet, like he's not even there, he still
has another year to go, year plus to go, right, he turns 20 next month, no in June, sorry two months,
just what he is doing, and he just looks, it looks just so natural to him, right, and it's not just
the scoring, right, the scoring is amazing, and that's what gets all the headlines, but it's all the
other little stuff that he does, and the way he treats his teammates, and you know, the way he plays
without the puck, and the way he plays in the defensive zone, and just all that type of set, like
if you were trying to build like the perfect hockey player in a lab, like
you have a feeling celebrating, he's pretty close to what you would get, maybe you want to like
an inch or two dollars, something like that, but like just everything he does, a vision,
the speed, the leadership, right, the camaraderie, like he's still, he's able to walk that line right
now of where he's very serious, he can be very serious, he can do captain type of things, and I do
100%, 100% expect, the next time we see him and Teal on the ice, he will have a sea on his sweater,
but then he can also do the goofy stuff that you see with him and Will Smith, and that what makes
you know, that reminds you, yes, he's still a 19 year old kid, you know, who's been a 19 year old
kid at times, so it's just we we are very much watching the beginning of something great, and I
was I've said it before, I'll say it again, Michael Celebrity is going to literally like change
the skyline of San Jose, like he is that important to San Jose, I mean you see the SAP center,
all the work that they're doing right now to, you know, renovate it, would they have probably
done it? Yeah, probably, but like when you have a franchise player like Celebrity, and again,
not just a front like legitimately one of the best players, like look at what they're they're
doing to try to accommodate right, upgrading the the ring, don't be surprised if we continue to see
upgrades in and around the SAP center, you know, like I know they just built texia arena, but
would you be surprised if like a charge practice of, you know, updated practice rank or whatever,
like legitimately like changing the the city of San Jose with what he is doing, and that
trickle effect of what he is doing, I mean my viewership, my listenership because of Celebrity,
right, and yes, the shark's winning, the helps, but a lot of it's Celebrity, and you can any
beat writer, anybody who's covers the sharks, right, like they will tell you what Celebrity does to
help drive traffic to help, all that stuff is all because of what this kid is doing, and it is
something that we cannot, we should not take for granted, just how special he is, especially
a shark's fans who've, right, we've always been the like close, but not quite the bridesmaid,
right, we've always had really good teams that never had that one like super, super game-changing
special type of player, you got him, you have him, you have a game breaking player in Macklin's
Celebrity, and this is just your two, man, this is just your two with Macklin's Celebrity, and
the great thing is the rest feels like it's going to be starting to catch up here, so that's
what we're going to talk about here is, yes, the sharks won six to one, yes did it hurt their tank
standings, 100%, we'll talk about that in the third segment, but with the way that they won
tonight and who was involved, it doesn't really matter, man, like it doesn't matter, so we're going
to talk about that here in just one second. There's nothing like being an NBA arena of the crowd,

We were also talking about Brooklyn 9.9 today during the game as well because I made a Brooklyn 9.9
reference and nobody got it and made me feel really sad. So tap the link in the show notes,
we head over to locked on Sharks supercast to learn more. All right, yes, Sharks was six to one.
And I know not you're going to miss out on that that seventh overall pick now or at least a
seventh pick heading into the draft lottery. It's sad, yes, I get it. But you look at where the
production came from tonight, right? Old man Colin Graff was the oldest person who scored and he's
23, turns 24 in the fall. Michael Beesah, who's 19.
Mackinacel Breeney, so Michael Beesah had a goal tonight. Mackinacel Breeney had a goal
into assist. He's 19. You had Igor Shurnashov who had a goal tonight. You had Will Smith,
who had a goal and an assist. He's 20. William Ecklin, who had a goal to assist and three points
total. He's 23 and then Colin Graff who had a goal as well. And then of course, John Klingberg. So
really quick on John Klingberg. I'm glad they got him his 700th game and like you could tell it
meant a lot to the team that he got to play his 700th game right, got to where the A.
He played a really, I thought he played a really good game. Yes, his Jets team was very much
packed in. They're ready to go. Like they're ready for this season to be over. I totally get it,
right? But just as a personal light level and I've made fun of John Klingberg plenty of times
on this podcast. And I've also praised John Klingberg plenty of times on this podcast as well. But
just for a guy who has gone through everything he has to continue to try to play the game that he
loves, right? You you talked about the pain that he was in and the double hip surgery and
everything like that. Like congratulations to John Klingberg. One last time we are breaking out.
Oh Klingberg tonight. Congratulations to him as he hits 700 NHL games. Just you know
they waited till the very last game when nothing mattered and stuff. But still that's a major milestone.
And we'll see what's next for Klingberg and stuff. Maybe he latches on to a contending team
or something like that or maybe he goes back to Sweden or whatever this could have been very much
could have been his last NHL game ever. But again, just what he has gone through just
personally to continue to play the game that he loves. You could tell it definitely meant a lot
to the guys on the team that he reached that milestone tonight. So anyway, happy for John Klingberg.
So where's that eight by eight for Klingberg? So I was going to take that way too seriously. But
though, going back to like all the players, like all your core players tonight were huge pieces.
And yes, this jazz team was done still. But you saw glimpses. You continue to see glimpses
of the future, right? Power play one tonight, which was Luca Canioni.
Like, this is the stuff that we as fans, like been dreaming about for like the last couple seasons of
like, man, wait till we get this power play, right? Luca Canioni,
Mackle and Celebrini, Will Smith, Igor Shernershoff and William Eclan, all out there on the
power play. And what do they do? Of course, they scorch. Like, just that, that right there,
just showing like, okay, maybe this is something we can, you know, Luca Canioni, who I thought played
very well these last three games, these three games in the NHL. I think set himself up for really,
like very limited time, but had a very nice audition. And should be kind of penciled in, again,
depending on what the shirts do this off season, should be penciled in for a NHL role next year.
He's going to head back to the NHL. He's going to go, I think, have our fine play out front
with the Barracuda right now, who desperately need him. But, right, Canioni and his playmaking
a building, you saw those splashes, you saw those, that creativity from him and his ability to
just be able to process and react and deal with pressure that just other players on the
shirts blue line can't deal, do right now. You know, you saw Misa in the Jets, like,
as he's this season, like, you saw, like, if you go way, way back into, you know, some of the games
that he played during the, either the preseason or some of the rookie stuff, and like, you saw the
flashes of the speed, but like, he like has legitimately gotten faster as this season has gone on.
And I, you know, that has been like, kind of a surprising aspect of his game, right?
And the way he turned on the Jets on that golf of his, right? And, you know, the first shot gets
stopped and he follows up with the rebound, right? And how many of those greasy, like,
greasy goals has Misa scored. So that combination of his ability to have the highlight to style
plays, but also have those greasy goals that you have to, that's how you have to score goals in
NHL. Like, next year when, when the training wheels are off with Misa, like, this team is going
to take off and have a, like, he's going to, I think, have a massive jump next year, where,
instead, you know, being a 20 point player, to be in, you know, a 50, 60 point player next year,
if he continues to kind of get the looks and the ice time that he should get, like, Misa's 100%
going to just make a huge jump. So yeah, it ends up with 21 points this year for Misa and 45 games.
So, like, 50, 60 points, I think is worth, and we're plenty of time this off season to talk about
it. But, you know, William Eclan, who, right, I know a lot of, there's a section of shark's fans
who are like, trade them, he's a bomb, stuff like that. Like, just like, he, he provides something
different that the other guys don't do right. His puck play, his ability to
protect the puck, it reminds me of like a young Tomasch hurdle where, just that, like,
dogged, I'm not going to, I'm going to win this puck, I'm going to get this puck and I'm going to
create for somebody else. And yes, did he scores many goals as you would like? No, of course not,
right? He definitely disappointed in that area, but I think big things are coming for Eclan now
that we can, we're starting to really solidify this forward group, you know, in Will Smith, who,
right, there's some nights where we will Smith where you want to tear your hair out, and then
there's some nights like tonight where he just does like, ridiculous things from him. And I think
the more he continues to kind of iron out those, those nights where, right, you want to tear your
hair out, but he's a, you know, he's well, if he doesn't get hurt, he's a 70-point player this year,
right? And we'll be talking about him as a potential point for game player next year for San Jose.
Just all these feet, and Sam Dickinson, who had a great night tonight, if you're on the
big fan of like hockey stack cards, he had one of the like best games of the NHL this year when
it came to his hockey stack card, like just quietly getting better and getting better every,
you know, and yes, he was a rookie thrown out there and having to kind of, you know, learn
how to swim in the deep end, but like I said, he's going to be a better, he's a better player now
than if he was sent him back to London for another season, where he would have just
roasted kids, you know, the entire season, like he's a better player now for getting his butt kicked
this entire season, and I think you're going to see more of that offensive of Sam Dickinson going
for, like, and you still have players who have really yet to kind of continue to make an impact,
right? Chernashov, who looked good in his time here, you know, and I think for him, like it's
going to be all about kind of getting geared up for a full NHL season here. You have guys like
Quit Musty and you have B-Stead and like you have a ton of prospects for still on their way,
like this team is going to end a butt ton of caps face and you've got picks and you've got like
prospects and the world is your oyster if you're my career. So this is going to be a really,
really fun and interesting and exciting off season for San Jose and I think that's what we'll
kind of talk about here next. So we'll get to that in just one second.
If you've got a sweet tooth like I do, you know how tough it is to find that perfect treat without
all the sugar. That's why cotton candy, five-hour energy shots bring the nostalgic flavor back
in a whole new way. This is a classic cotton candy taste. Remember with a tasty caffeine boost
in zero sugar, it's a quick easy way to satisfy that sweet craving while keeping things simple
and on the go. I love cotton candy. I mean, who doesn't like cotton candy, but right,
you can't just sit there and eat cotton candy all day because why it's really sticky,
but this is the perfect alternative. The flavor really does bring back that throwback fruity vanilla
vibe and it's surprisingly smooth. I like how it could be. It is too small portable shot that you
can grab whenever you need or if you got a throw in your bag to go. It doesn't take a bunch of
room. So bring on the sweetness with cotton candy five-hour energy shots available online now
at fivehourenergy.com or on Amazon.
All right. I know this isn't like our normal game breakdown. Like the surges beat the crap
out of the Jetson. I think right now this is more of a kind of where we're at. So the big question
now is like, I mean, the surges put together one of their best seasons in, you know,
since their Western conference final. Like this is legitimately the best season that they put
together since their Western conference final. And I mean, for me, this is the first, I've been
on this podcast. I've been doing this podcast since February 2020, right? And there's people who
have listened to this show since the very beginning and there's people who maybe you started listening
last week, right? And everything in between. This is the first last game of this season that I've
done where the sharks won the game, right? This team is very much since I've been on this show,
or since I've been doing this show has, by the end of the season, they are the Jets, right?
They just want to go home. They just want this thing to be over with. They just everyone's ready
for vacation. Everyone, not now. Like, I feel like if they could play another game tomorrow,
they would happily fly wherever to go play another game tomorrow because that's how this team is
right now. So because of their win tonight combined, the St. Louis Blues win, the sharks are going to
be scheduled to pick night, or they have the ninth best odds heading into the draft lottery. So
what does that mean? May 5th, there will be a, I believe it's May 5th, there will be a draft
lottery where basically they have a bunch of numbers, simulators, and ping pong balls,
and stuff. They do it online now. They do an actual showdown. So with the ninth overall pick,
or odds, these sharks chances to get the number one pick are at 5%. They also have a 5.2% chance
to get the second overall pick. So the way they do it is they do two lotteries. The first lottery
decides the number one pick. The second lottery decides the number two pick. If in Vancouver as the
best odds to in the number one, Chicago is the second best odds, so far, and so forth, right?
Sharks also have a .2 percentage to get the number three pick, which I had to kind of sit there for
a second and figure out. Basically, what happens to first sharks to get number three, 18, 12 through
16 would have to win the first drawing. So what would happen then is say like, so right now New Jersey,
My Owners, Blue Jackets, Detroit's pick, which goes to St. Louis and Washington.
If one of those teams won the first drawing, they would move up 10 spots, which would put anywhere
from 2 through 6. Vancouver would keep that pick at number one because they had the best odds.
And then they would run a second drawing. If the sharks won that second drawing,
they would basically move up to three, if that makes, like, if team number, I guess it would be
the Blue Jacket. If the doubles were the islanders, I guess, one the first drawing, they would move up
to two. Basically, that's how the sharks would get number three. I think it's like that. So
they also San Jose has a 64% chance, 64.4% chance, pick number nine, 23.5% chance, pick number 10,
and a 1.7% chance to pick number 11. So if two teams, 12 through 16 or sorry, 10 through 16 won the
lottery, then the sharks would take 11 type of thing. So yes, you might potentially miss that on
one of those top four defensemen. Maybe we'll see a lot. The drafts have weird,
a fickle thing, right? Go back two years ago, I never thought Sam Tickens would be there at 11,
right? Go back. Players move around all the time. And especially with this year where they're just,
it's not a very consensus board. You never know what's going to happen. So the sharks are still,
like, number nine, the sharks are still in a great position to draft a player. So
what that kind of leaves next for the podcast, I'm not leaving. Like, don't come here that wrong. So
if you are, again, maybe if you're new, you don't know how the offseason works,
we're still going to put out five episodes a week. So and plus,
bear coulder and the playoffs. So we will have bear coulder coverage that will be its own special
thing. So we will continue to do bear coulder stuff. Like you will have after, you know,
during the playoffs, like we'll have a before the playoffs, we'll have a nice kind of preview of
the bear coulder's opponent to get to know who they're playing. We'll have reactions after every
bear coulder game during the playoffs and stuff and cover that as long as it goes. So they'll be
planning a bear coulder coverage. If you want to continue to stay on top of the prospects,
says some of these, I would assume Shunershop and Ken Yoni will be sent back to the bear coulder
tomorrow. We'll also gear up for the draft. So basically, that kind of the next week or two,
we'll kind of refract or kind of decompress from the season. What do we learn over the season?
We'll kind of look at some big overarching things and like what we learned over the season and
that type of stuff, like areas where the sharks got better, areas where the sharks got worse,
we'll continue to have draft profiles. Then we'll start focusing on free agency and continue to
hammer more into the draft. All this basically leading up for the week before the draft where I will
put together a simulated off season where everything I would do that, if I was my career,
how I would do it, right? Where I will go through like one day, we'll have like the first day,
it's typically in-house stuff. So I will take care of my free agents, my pending RFA,
like I will do all that stuff. I will have a mock draft simulator, we'll go through and I will
draft for the shark slash make any trades that I would try to make potentially pull off
over the draft weekend. Then I will have a mock free agency where I will go through a free agency
and try to put together a team to help get the sharks into the playoffs. And then of course,
we'll kind of take a step back and look at everything I did that week and try to kind of go,
you know, where does that leave the team? Now, kind of where does that leave the team going forward
type of thing? So a lot of the work between now and then is going to be towards out of looking at
looking at free agents, like we'll look at all the kind of key free agents, we'll dive in into
profiles of all the big ones and, you know, kind of other guys and stuff like that. We'll continue
look at the draft and we'll look at big questions for the sharks and, you know, that needs to be
answered, including what is a celebrity contract? What is a Will Smith contract and call and
graph and which free agents, like, so that's kind of the work over the next kind of two months
here now at Locked on Sharks is getting ready for free agency and how I think my career should
approach this as he tries to take this team from this fun frisky team that this team was this season.
Now, how do you transform into a not only a playoff contender, but that sustainable success that
we're going to continue to strive for? That's that way you become that next Tampa Bay Lightning,
you become that next Colorado avalanche, you become that next team that no matter what,
you feel like you have a decent shot at the cup going into the season. So, yes, so,
again, thank you guys for all your support. Easily the most fun I've had this see, like in any
season I've done, easily the most fun I've had. And again, there's people who have been listening
since day one when there was three of us and we got away with a lot of dumb stuff to now where it's
just me and I get away with a lot of dumb stuff as well or just they continue let me have a mic for
some reason. So, but again, thank you guys for all your support. If it was your if you watch one
episode or if you're in every day or whatever, it all means a ton that I get to that I've gotten
to the point where this is my job, like this is what I do is I make stuff for you guys and it's
all because of you guys and you continue to come back and continue to support me and I still don't
understand why, but for some reason you guys do so I stop questioning it. So, but again, thank you
so much. We're going to continue to pump out shows. We've got plenty of great stuff. I've been working
hard on the content calendar and I think we're going to have a really, this is going to be a really
fun offseason for San Jose. So, that's going to be it. Make sure you're following along wherever you

Before we had AT&T business wireless coverage, our delivery GPS wasn't the most reliable.
Once our driver had to do a 14 point turn to get back on route, a 14 point turn and influencer
even live streamed the whole thing. Not good for business. Now with AT&T business wireless,
router updating on the fly and deliveries are on time. And the influencer did get us 53 new followers
though. AT&T business wireless, connecting changes everything.
