And wood over to his right is waiting.
He's got it and the ballgame is over.
The Phillies get run over by the nationals here.
The first game of this three games set.
They score four in the first and never look back
as the Nats route the Phillies 13 to two the final.
Welcome on in.
It is the midday show.
You Douglas, Joe Gileo, you guys with us.
215-592-94-94.
A lot to get to today.
Kyle Quinn, of course, is behind the glass.
Elliott will join us once again from the NFL owners,
but he's dead in one hour from now at Daily Mach.
We might even brighten your day with a huge clues,
but we start with the Phillies.
Good morning, Hugh Douglas.
Good morning, Joe.
Good morning, Phillie.
You know, Thunder only happens when it's raining.
Players only love you when they're playing.
You know women, they're coming there go.
But when the rain wash you clean, you'll know.
Stevie Douglas.
I'm just saying.
I didn't know what else to say.
I just felt like it was pro-finalists.
You just courted a flute with Mack.
That's where the Daily Douglas is.
That's what you got.
That's it.
That's how it's played with Mack.
No, listen.
I thought about not coming to work today.
I know you threatened again.
I did.
Whenever things go bad around here,
someone says, I'm not coming to work.
Oh, it's tail.
No, man, because let me just tell you how my night went.
So last night, I'm getting my 3D printing ready for the evening.
So I'm on the computer, so the game starts.
I say, oh, I, you know, first inning.
Taiwan's going to give me six and six and two thousand.
Sure, yeah.
I'm like, I got a little bit of time.
So I'm setting my printing schedule up for what I want to print.
All the little fidget toys and stuff that I like to make.
I get a text from Rhea, Rhea Hughes.
She says, uh, I don't think Taiwan's going to make it to six in each.
She said, I'll think you're going to make 62 thirds.
And I was like, oh, no.
So I turned the television right.
Yeah, he had a rough one.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
No, you can't, you can't spend that one,
because somebody reached out to cars.
I wonder how he was going to spend,
can't spend that one.
Yeah, he got it around.
He got, he got everything was bad last night.
Everything.
215, 592, 90, 494 on it.
Let's react together as the Phillies get smacked around here in Philadelphia
by the Washington Nationals.
And you know, I'm watching the beginning of the game here.
The broadcast brings you an NBC sports photo.
And they talked about how that last year,
the Phillies were able to beat up on the nationals.
Right.
That was whenever the Phillies had a tough moment
or they were coming off of tough seers.
Well, here come the gnats,
you know, the punching bag for the Phillies last year.
And they show the stats, they had a turner.
And where were they crushed the nationals last year?
And new year, but the nationals still look like one of the worst teams
at baseball, maybe the worst in the national league or second worst.
Whatever.
And you thought, all right, you know what?
This is a get right series.
Even though it's Taiwan, it's a get right series.
Tonight, they'll be fine.
They'll hit around a pitch that was in Japan last year.
And if you had told me before the night started
that someone would win that game 13 to two,
you would think it was the Phillies.
Well, it should have been the Phillies.
Instead, it was the Nationals 13.
It was the Phillies to everything stunk last night.
Everything stunk.
Obviously, Taiwan did not pitch well.
You know, I'll give him this.
It wasn't like they're hitting home runs.
It was more, it just hits.
But whatever.
Would you say blooped it there?
But so it's, it's, when you give up,
I mean, the guy gave up a lot of hits.
He gave up 10 hits in four and two thirds.
He gave up 10 hits in four and two thirds.
You're asking for trouble.
So he wasn't good last night.
The defense behind him was abyss.
Maharpert first.
Not good.
Turner dropping the ball on the flip there.
I mean, come, come, come, what track?
Can we please wake up and start the season?
That was like a few years ago.
Trey Turner, we look like it was half asleep.
It's at shortstop.
So that was a good.
And the offense continues to stumble.
If you take away the pop up that was dropped in the ninth inning,
they've basically not hit anything for three games here.
Hugh, it's a, it's, I don't know.
We're going to hear a lot today.
It's early, it's early, it's early, it's early.
That's fine.
It has been an abysmal start to the season
for the Philadelphia players since,
since Alec Bohn hit the home run on opening day,
right to kind of put that game away.
Yeah.
It's three and a half games where they haven't hit.
Three and a half games where the appats look like garbage.
Last night, Turner won for five.
He's hit 167 so far.
Schwerber 0 for three, 125 so far on the season.
And Bryce Harper and 0 for five yesterday,
he is hitting 063 to start the season.
And I know it is early.
I know there's a lot of baseball that's replayed,
but we're reacting to what we've seen so far.
And it has not been good.
And I'm telling you, I'm looking at the team.
And although we all realize that they've been in this spot a couple times,
right, they've been in this spot in 22.
When they came out of it, they've been in the spot in 23.
It's embarrassing when it's the fourth game of the season,
the fourth game and a position player is pitching for the Phillies.
And not because they're blowing out the opponent.
It's a laffer.
They're getting blown out.
I mean, come on, Dylan Moore in the ninth inning.
I know teams do this now, but it's embarrassing that we have to use a position
player because we can't get through the nationals game in game four of the season.
Hugh, it's just, it's a bad look for topper.
It's a bad look for them last night.
They got to wake up here because the season, you know,
it's underway.
These games all count.
And this is supposed to be
a weaker part of the schedule.
Texas, Washington, they go to Colorado this week.
And this is supposed to be an area where they should rack up wins.
Yeah, you got it.
You're trying to gain some ground.
You know, you're trying to gain some ground right now.
And then you're looking at the standings in the east right now.
And everybody has, you know, two games on you, you know,
one, three, three and one basically crossed the board.
So it's not a good look right now, but
and I know nobody wants to hear this.
Here we go.
But today is a day where
you probably just need to, you know, do a hard reset.
Probably get you some broccoli, relax a little bit
and just chill out.
Today is a chill out day.
No, today is the opposite of a chill out day.
Today isn't yell about the Phillies.
They chill out.
No, I'm saying I'm talking about after we do this.
Oh, okay.
When this shows up, I can go home and, you know, relax.
Get you, get you some stress relief.
All right.
I might need that.
All right.
2-1-5-5-9-2-9-4-9-4.
Let me throw this question at you, Hugh,
because I, I'm struggling with it.
Are you sure the Phillies are going to be okay?
Are you sure the Phillies are going to be okay?
Now, I'm not, I'm not saying that their season is over today.
But, you know, when a team struggles earlier,
like it's going to be fine.
No worries.
Are you sure?
Yeah.
You're sure?
Yeah, because I'm looking at the standings.
Okay.
All the standings.
I'm talking about for everybody.
Phillies are only two games out of, out of the team.
Well, yeah, it's not about the standings.
Well, I'm just saying for that.
It really is, but that's what we're talking about.
Like last night was embarrassing.
No question about that.
It was a joke.
Especially when you talk about the way that they were beat,
you know, they tried to have a rally towards the end,
you know, and everything, but it just wasn't enough.
So, it's one of those things where, you know,
I know, I understand everybody's frustration.
I was surprised as many people, Kyle was at the game,
and he was talking about how there was a lot of people there
towards the end, like they tried to hang on
because they wanted to see some special.
It's tough, man.
No question about that.
It's tough, and it was tough to see,
especially when you talk about a team
that's supposed to be the doormat, or the ease, you know,
and you didn't get it done.
So, yeah, I get it.
I get why everybody says it.
Yeah. All right.
So, it will, they are, and they're going to be the doormat.
I mean, Washington is the worst team in the division,
and it looked like it yesterday.
It didn't look like it last night, but they are.
So, here's where I'm at to start the show,
and to start the fifth day of the season,
or the fifth game of the season tonight, through four games.
I am not 100% sure the fillers are going to be okay.
I'm not.
Now, is it likely?
Is it possible?
All those things, you could unpack that.
Just for me, I'm not sure they're going to be okay,
because the way I look at the team is,
they still have a lot of potential.
They're still a lot of talent.
But there's a few things that just hover out there,
and I'm watching to see if it changes.
They have three big time offensive players
that have to carry the load, right?
That we know that.
Turner, Harper, Schwarber.
That's the way they built their team.
Those guys are not young baseball players.
They're old, older by the standards of majorly baseball.
And I'm not saying any of them are all them,
or even one of them is hit a aging wall yet.
But it is certainly possible that happens.
It is certainly possible.
This is the year.
One of them just starts to really fall off.
And if that happens,
I don't think they have enough offense.
If those three guys aren't
at least good versions of themselves.
And that is until I start seeing them hit,
it's like in the back of your head,
when you see an older player like,
is this the year that starts to go?
So that's out there.
I also think they have thinner starting pitching depth
than we've seen in years past.
Like so far this season, Aaron Knowles,
did he look much better than last year?
No, okay.
Taiwan Walker, we know what he is.
We're going to see Painter tonight.
But again, as much as I am excited,
and I am excited to watch Andrew Painter
and what his career becomes,
he pitched to a 5-ERA last year in AAA.
So my number two or three starter,
whatever it could serve Aaron Knowles at this point
to start the season, might not be good.
My number five starter Andrew Painter
coming off a 5-ERA last year.
I just, there's more questions with this team
than there was even last year in the year before.
And that's part of why I'm like, I don't know.
I'm not sure.
But first four games have been ugly.
The top three haven't hit.
And I'm questioning everything today.
215-592-9490.
For where do you come down?
Are the Phillies?
Are you sure the Phillies are going to be okay?
You know, this isn't a gut feel.
This is, are you sure?
Yes.
Yeah, I'm not, I can't say anything with sort of an app.
Yeah, the line, where was the line last night
when Taiwan was getting beat around?
Yeah, he got, he got, he got,
he got lumped up a little bit.
And that Taiwan whispered a thing,
real 2025 energy on that one.
Oh, you do get playing for this one.
You guaranteed a win last night.
You guaranteed it.
I was pressured into that.
You were not, you were not.
No, okay, I, I angle you that one.
Why are you in that?
I thought, I thought that he would have a better showing.
Yeah.
Well, I did too.
And unfortunately, he did not.
All right, 215-592-9490.
Let's hear from Rob Thompson talking about the Phillies
and one of his favorite sayings with things go bad.
The back of that baseball car,
top or after the game last night.
Well, they're working.
I mean, all you got to do is read the back
through the baseball car.
Yeah, those numbers are probably going to be there
at the end of the year.
So it's just three games.
At some point, somebody's going to pay.
Yeah, somebody, somebody going to pay.
Well, now it's, that's what you got to keep.
Sure.
Now it's four games.
And the back of the baseball car thing
is always so funny to me,
because eventually a player stops being good, right?
Like, that's some point.
Yeah, so eventually the back of the baseball car analogy
just runs out of steam.
You know what it did?
It did with Castellanos last year.
He tried that with Castellanos back at the baseball car.
Well, no, he's done now.
Like, he's not even a regular player anymore.
Again, I'm not saying Trey and Schwerber and Harper are done.
But one of these years,
age is going to hit one of them like a,
they're going to run into it like a ton of bricks,
like a brick wall.
I hope it's not here.
If it is, it's certainly going to change the team this season.
So, you know, and I'm not surprised we got the yearly
top or back of the baseball card.
Also Kyle Schwerber talking about the top of the order,
why they haven't clicked and they certainly have not yet
so far this year.
I mean, I think just us having to just go about our back.
You know, it's a,
it's a hate thing it's baseball,
but obviously we need to get better.
Everyone's looking to work to keep getting better.
And it's hard to chase a result,
especially at the plate.
You have to kind of chase the, you know,
go more about the process of it.
And the more that you go about that,
and the more that you really focus on it,
that I feel like the results will be there.
So, you know, for us, it's just filling like that.
We keep going about our work,
and we keep trying to get better on a daily basis.
And, you know, keeping the, the even keel,
even keelness of it all, right?
Not getting too emotional about anything.
And, you know, like we say,
it's, you always try to stay off that roller coaster.
And the more that you can, you know,
be very objective and kind of on, you know,
for yourself, this undressed top to bottom.
Look at it, go from there and try to, you know,
work for the next day.
Oh, that's, I mean, that, I understand why he's got to say that stuff.
And he's trying to be tough, man.

You know, you got 17 games.
And they're more meaningful.
Not, let me, let me pair.
They're not more meaningful.
They're fewer games.
Yeah, so each one carries more weight.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, it carries more weight.
Okay, there you go.
It carries more weight.
So it's one of those things that as a football player,
you lose the game, say you lose the vision game.
It's a big deal.
It's a big deal.
Because, you know, especially if you're a team that's
poised to be in the Super Bowl or poised to go to the playoffs or whatever.
So it's one of those things where the weight of the moment
hits a little different.
It hits harder, you know, because you only got,
but 16 more to go and you need those.
And baseball, it has to be tough to sit there.
I mean, and he's not lying.
There's a lot of baseball left to be played.
But when you have nights like that,
and you're trying to explain to the people,
it almost sounds a little flippant, you know.
And that's not fair for Kyle because that's not what he's doing.
That's not what he's trying to be.
But he's right.
You can't get too high or too low
because it's only four games.
Yeah. See, he can't.
I can though.
We can because we're fans of the team.
I, he's trying to have an even keel and that is fine.
But I'm just telling you, it's today I wake up and I'm not completely sure
they're going to be fine.
There are holes in the team.
The top three, they're not young players.
And if they've hit a wall, the office is a trouble.
And the starting pitching depth does not feel to me as strong as it has been in years past.
It just doesn't.
We don't even know we're getting out of pain or we'll see tonight.
No list, the first start was not good.
And, and we don't know when Wheeler gets back if he's going to be himself.
215, 592, 94, 94.
That is how you hop aboard.
Kyle, you were in the building last night.
Unfortunately.
Have that feel.
And are you sure?
Are you sure they're going to be all right?
So when I was leaving the game, I'm like, you know, that sucked.
They're going to be okay.
Yeah.
And then in my head, I'm like, are you sure they're going to be okay?
You started asking yourself, yeah.
I'm like, you know, I'm, I'm not sure they're going to be okay.
That should have been the opposite result last night.
The nationals are a triple A baseball team.
With a triple A pitcher, a triple A lineup.
I'm looking up and down the big board.
And I'm like, who the hell are these guys?
That pitcher was in Japan last year.
And they're, and they're, and they're batting around on Taiwan.
And as soon as they went down for nothing, I'm like, well, this game's over.
Yeah.
This game is over.
I get a sense of dread that I should not have when the top of the order comes up.
And that's the part of the order that has to carry them.
That's where the offense has to come.
I feel better when the, the, the bombs of the world, the marshes of the world that,
like, and also ran, which isn't, which isn't saying much.
But I feel better when those guys come up, then I do the top of the order.
If we get guys on, and then they switch to the top and turn it comes up.
I'm like, well, the sitting's over.
I mean, it's, last night was embarrassing, embarrassing to lose like that's the nationals.
And I understand it's only the fourth game.
But oh my goodness, guys, like the top of the order, the, the lack of hitting there is.
It's a joke right now.
And sure it'll get better.
I don't know how much better will it get better enough?
That's where I start the question.
If I'm sure they're going to be okay.
Yeah.
And look, I'm sure someone out there's probably thinking, come on, guys, did you forget 2022?
How bad they started?
They made the World Series 2023.
How bad they started?
They made the NLCS game seven.
That is true.
This group has had a thing about them where they've had some slow starts and they've rallied.
But I want to point this out.
When those teams did that, right, the 2022 and 2023 Phillies, when they just basically
slept, walked the first two months of the season and turned it on.
JT Real Nuto in those years was 31 and 32 years old.
Trey Turner wasn't here the first year.
He's the second year of that 2023 thing I'm bringing up.
He was 30 years old.
Kyle Schwar was 29 and 30 years old.
Bryce Harper was 29 and 30 years old.
Do you get what I'm saying?
They were in their prize.
They were in their primes.
They were able to turn it on.
You heard about the fact that they get a little longer.
Well, yeah.
So like if they put her around and just screw around for the first two months,
I don't know if a 35, 36 year old JT Real Nuto could just turn it on for the last four months.
The way he did in 2022, the same thing with Bryce Harper, right?
That is, when you're young, you could just say, let's flip the switch and let's go
on a run for four months.
The way they did back-to-back years a few years ago.
If they struggle out of the gate, especially, and I've been bringing this up a lot,
the first week of the season, this is the easy part of the schedule.
This is it.
Rangers not to play off team last year.
National stink.
Rockies are next.
This is the part of the schedule.
They should be winning stacking wins.
They don't see the Tigers, the Yankees, the Mets,
Dodgers, any of these teams, to later in the season.
This should be the part they're racking up wins.
They look like they're sleepwalking, the defense is awful.
And the first couple of games with this offense, not good at all.
215, 592, 9494.
All right, let's go to the phones here.
A lot to react to today.
Philly's lose last night.
13 or two.
Are you sure they're going to be OK?
I'm not sure.
Hugh Douglas is holding a line.
Oh, many lines we holding around here.
I got a couple of lines.
Yeah, you got to stop holding those lines.
Kenny and West Oak Lane is up.
What's up, Kenny?
Hey, what's up, guys?
How are you?
Good, Kenny.
What are you feeling?
I'm feeling like I'm frustrated, man.
I know it's the beginning of the season, but we're Philadelphia fans.
And we react off of the first couple of games
like it's the end of the season.
And I am mad.
Honestly, like they didn't do enough in the off season.
Everybody knows that.
We kind of forgave that because the high of opening day came
and like, you know what, this is going to be a great season.
And it's the same product that's on the field as last year.
Like Crawford, I think he's going to be great.
That's one of the shining things.
You know what I'm saying?
Pitching, I think it's going to be great this year.
But as far as the meat of the team, I'm seeing the same stuff
that I saw last year.
They're still swinging for the fences,
not trying to put the ball in play.
Like, I just, I don't get it, man.
I really don't.
Like, and yes, it's the beginning of the season.
And you know, other years they came back
and all of that stuff, but right now,
as of today, I am not liking what I'm seeing on the field at all.
Well, Kenny, and you have every right not to like it
because it's not, it's one thing if they've just lost
three out of four, that happens, right?
And of course, of a long season, the team,
good teams will lose three out of four all the time.
That's not a big deal.
It's Kenny, it's the way they've lost.
I mean, it almost feels like a lot of these games
are non-competitive.
They got their clock cleaned by the national man.
Like, are you serious?
What?
Come, man, like, you know what I miss?
I don't know, like, I like Topper.
I really do, but I kind of missed that fire that Charlie had.
You know what I'm saying?
Like Charlie would just rear up at sometimes and be like,
yo, we're not accepting this.
So whatever, like, yo, let's go guys.
Like, I kind of miss, I kind of feel like that team is missing that.
You know what I'm saying?
That that fire and that foot, that proverbial foot,
that's like, hey, yo, yo, get it together.
Let's let's let's make this happen.
Like, I don't know, man, they kind of seem laid back.
Like the total mood of the team is like,
all right, we're going to go out here and play.
You know, you know, that's just what I'm getting in there.
Kenny, I feel that.
Kenny, I feel it, man.
Yeah, I don't think you're not the only one that feels that with Topper.
Kenny, good phone call.
We appreciate it.
Well, a couple of things and we're going to get to Topper coming up here in a few
minutes because he had quite a night last night from the ejection to the lineup thing,
to him lying to us after the game.
But just on Topper and that feeling that Kenny has, I feel that sometimes,
I said it yesterday, the lineup on Saturday.
They had an opportunity to switch the lineup up because DeGrom was supposed to pitch.
He's a right-handed pitcher, obviously.
And they were to face a lefty instead of DeGrom on Saturday.
Opportunity to swap the lineup back to the platoons that Topper likes to go with
shows not to it.
It felt to me like a shrug of the shoulder.
It was like, ah, that's game two.
I got it.
Yeah, no big deal.
And to me, there's no sense urgency there.
And then last night,
Justin Crawford sitting.
Why?
Why?
And I'm not saying I'm expecting four hits in a home run at a Justin Crawford.
We all have temperate expectations.
But why do I need to see Marche's center field?
By the way, I think Crawford might have caught a couple of those balls that fell in
early in the game if he's in center field.
He's a far better and faster outfielder in terms of just speed to the ball in front of him
than Brandon March.
So like, why did I not see Crawford last night against the left?
He only did his hit lefties in the minor leagues.
So that, so you have every right to feel that about the manager who I just,
it's, I don't like the vibe.
I do not like the vibe.
And I am not sitting here today just, just assuming they're going to be okay.
I'm not.
I know I got, I got, he Douglas holding lines over here.
Hold on, how many lines can you hold at the same time?
I got a couple of got broad shoulders up.
Yeah.
I got this.
This is pretty far done.
Got a hole, man.
William Wallace over here.
William Wallace Douglas.
Got a hole.
Yeah.
What happened him at the end though?
Oh, he died.
Okay, he died.
Okay.
But he died, would he, would he believe?
Yes.
There's a strong lesson to be learned.
I know.
Well, I mean, you hold that line eventually.
The line gets you are two one five five nine two ninety four nine four.
Are you sure the players are going to be okay?
I'm not.
Hugh Douglas is holding lines saying they will.
They might, but I'm not sure right now.
I can't say it with conviction.
Your calls on all that plus.
We got to get more into the night that Topper had last night from the decision to sit
just to Crawford to getting thrown out of the game in the first inning there,
which was its own thing to Topper lying to us after the game
about what he saw from some of his key players last night.
That's all next.
It is the mid-day show.
Yeah, two one five five nine two ninety four nine for mid-day show sports radio
ninety four WIP.
