This week, DJ caught up with the John and Steve after a busy stretch and shared highlights from his latest CEDIA trip, including the standout demo rooms, the best image he saw all week, and why the show is always more fun when you get to experience it through someone else’s eyes for the first time. They also wrapped up their World War II movie run with a deep discussion of Downfall, a German-language look at Hitler’s final days that we found gripping, disturbing, and incredibly effective both as filmmaking and as a home theater experience. From Bruno Ganz’s unforgettable performance to the oppressive bass and bunker atmosphere, this was one of those movies that stays with you long after the credits roll.
From there, the guys shifted gears into pure home theater fun with The Mandalorian and Grogu, which impressed all of us with its massive IMAX-enhanced presentation, excellent Atmos mix, and some genuinely jaw-dropping visuals at home. They also talked about seeing Terminator 2: Judgment Day back in a theater for its anniversary, revisited catalog titles like Falling Down and 30 Days of Night on 4K, and DJ shared his first hands-on experience with the Apple Vision Pro. They closed by looking ahead to our next movie season, our buildup to Doomsday, and another big Movember marathon on the horizon.

That's never going away. We are the side of the living world. We appear to be. This is a button. I asked for a button. I'll do it live. I'll do it live. Hey, home dinner. Welcome to the right side. Home dinner podcast. A multi award winning and giving and receiving. Home dinner podcast. It's all about the experiences. The sights. The sounds. The scenes. Nice. Spoiled last week. Yeah, man. You have to sit there and watch. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. They're all fired. I know somebody else. I know somebody is. We were paying then I split evenly between you two. Yeah. I know somebody looking for work. That's as good an audition as you need. That's right. That's all good. That's all good. Man, how are we doing? Are we okay? Great. Great. Yeah, I'm good. Yeah. So it's, uh, yeah, very well quite. You've been, uh, globe trotting or at least state trope trope trope. Yeah. Well, it was the globe. It's still the globe. You have to span the globe. Do it. So you were the wrong way. If you ended up going right around the globe, you know, just. Yeah. Well, you're, I guess you have to. You have to fly over the globe. Do I know how? And how was the trip? Excellent. Excellent. I did the next day we got swag. I see. Oh, yeah. Look at that. Oh, yeah. Man, you've always got to get that style point to those features.
Yeah, but you know, but it's like, I don't, I think that. Some of the people that might be giving it out are like people that you wouldn't, it's like tools or something like that or something or this was from my Epson. And it was, uh, after the run. Yeah, I know. And I'm like, look at me. They gave me a free t-shirt. Now I'm going to tell you how bad they are. No. They did not. They did not. They did not. They did not. They're not bad, but, uh, then the back of it actually has a quote, um, the presentation they did this year had, uh, Indie Garcia in it. They're trying to, um, make up for last year. Okay. So, you know, like last year I came on here, like, this day, right? The day after the day I get back, I talk about it. And I, I wasn't happy with their presentation. And then we saw the letter and stuff that JVC sent them, like, Cessin, Dessist and everything. Um, well, this year they got Indie Garcia in their corner and he did a pretty good job.
You know, he was, you know, they filmed it obviously. But, um, talking about, you know, projection and everything like that, but it was pretty cool quote on the back of the shirt. It says, uh, there's a magic in projection, which I think is cool because it's like, that's why I like projection. That's why I like, um, you know, having that light at the back of the room getting, you know, just like the old days of going to the theater, even now, old days, it's still the way it's done now. Uh, so I thought that was pretty cool. But, um, but yeah, they still went with their old, they did their comparison and everything they, and it just, yeah, same as last year. And it just, yeah, yeah. Rods, I think it's a wrong way. I think it's quote to go T shirt quote to I prefer you had me at rail guns, but that's what we have that shirt. It was taken, it was taken. I did wear that one at CDA too. One day, not the first day walking around. So best bits of the, of the couple of days. Uh, let's see the, I would say the absolute best room was I like off the top of my head
is the barco wall. That was the room. Did we see that on the thing to be, to be going to that one? We didn't take you in that one. Okay. That was, I don't think we had seen that yet when we did the live show. Um, I'd say overall the second room was probably, yeah, I probably have to say it was the one that we did the live show from. Um, that had the best overall to me. Um, PMC room was good. Had real good speed. The speakers sounded great. They just had a weird, um, uh, what do you call it? Um, a weird choice in, um, movies they showed. They didn't really, they weren't like action movies. They weren't anything dynamic to show off the speakers, but everything was crystal clear and smooth and it was really nice. But, uh, yeah, this Paul and the chat. Yeah. He's like, I'm with you, DJ with you on the barco room DJ best image I've ever seen anywhere.
And he did say that as soon as we walked out of the room, he was like, oh my god. He's like, that's probably the best image I've ever seen. Um, so that was cool. Um, yeah, we were, we wanted, I wanted to have a show for today, but it was just no way we were getting that done after getting back. Um, but Paul and I'll do a take over Tuesday. Hopefully we'll be out next Tuesday, being timely and everything for CEDIA and his experience with everything. And it's like other than CEDIA itself, that's pretty much what I said before going. It's like, I just wanted to watch it through his eyes, just his awe and just like, you know, like what being there when Michael was, you know, Mikey was there. Um, and now seeing this. It was just, yeah, it's a blast. It's a blast. Yeah. So we had a good time. And I'll let him say hi. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We'll say hi to run the chat then and then we'll, yeah, yeah, then we can rock on. Okay. So Steve had was first in on my list anyway in the chat.
Um, I know he's back in as well. Um, Captain AC3 now. Okay. So one ping only that's country red October. Oh, absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I got for that right. Good. Yeah. Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha. Um, so then Steve has a hold is in good and I'll wait hold you. Oh, yes, he's already said hunt for a October. Yeah. I don't hold you. Good man. Um, so that, yeah. So there we got Don's in as well. Bonsoir Don. Um, he's in a pause in as well. And he said, uh, oh, made it for the live show. Unfortunately, back at home and not indeed J studio this week. Oh. Yeah. There you go. Check, check under the desk. Oh, geez. Um, he's a hello. Um, poor, it's it is what I hate Paul. Hey, you did by the John men's so is it not not for that, each. Um, let's say I mean, I don't look under the desk for that. Honestly, we mentioned, John's, we mentioned bang movies and DJs just, just, it's
partly anyway. Why am I, I gotta leave that alone. Why would anybody never mind? I'm not. Jesus. Ridiculous. Uh, uh, John Durant says in as well. Hello, John Durant. I'm gonna call host of me again. Don't worry. That's what I got to do again on the show, man. Yeah. I don't know what do you mean? I'm not for that, DJ. Who the hell sits under the desk? Any other reason. Paul might still be there from last week. DJs got a lot of self control, man. Yeah. Oh, man, we've lost him. We've lost him. I don't know about that. Why? Why? Like, I have a couch right there. Why? That's the casting couch stage. Pretty. Yeah. Anyway, moving on, moving on. Ryan, we have someone new, uh, Mario, Mario, Mario, Mario, Mario.
Mario, Mario, Mario. Mario, let us know where you are. Um, with the name like that, I, you know, could be Mexico. John, do you know the name of your neighbors? Yeah. Thank you, Carl. Um, Mike Pianta, those he's in as well. Hey, Mike. Are you doing, buddy? Just bring that one down. Um, we've got Jordan's in. Hey, Jordan. Um, and we've got, um, I'm, I'm not sure what to see. Yo, Jason as well, Jay Bangle. Hey, Jay. Hey, how you doing, buddy? Um, I, I'm extra. As well. Hey, yeah. Hope you do an okay, bud. Um, I said John Mendes ordered night. Uh, uh, uh, Ariel, Dennis is in. Hey, dude. Beth, sin. Hey, Beth. Good. Good see you. Oh, hey, hey, hey, Beth. Um, and then Johnny Speakers is in as well. And while, book is into. Um, we make an appearance from Rachel this week, but she's in Florida. So. Yeah, well, yes, whether she's going to join in or don't know, but yeah, she flew out on Saturday someday, I think. So yeah, so she's state side, state side.
I just scrolled past that. I was like, pretty much. As this thing works, I don't know. I'll figure it out as we go. So there we go. Yeah, so plenty in. But like I said, anyone else that's tuning in who hasn't hasn't said hi, please feel free to do so. I'm more curious to know what people are. So yeah, all good, all good. Right. Yeah. Okay, don't keep. Right. And then, are we going to bring this home with? Are we going to end our season? Our WWLFC? All right. To it. Yeah, you're going to bring it into that. All right. Let's see. We find that image over here. Did you see this, John? I don't know what this is, but no. So you're not just not in the last two weeks, I haven't. I can tell you that. I'm curious to know if you've seen it actually. John can tell what I can't, yeah, I can't tell what it is yet. Oh, here we go.
Okay, never seen it. Oh, right. Prepare to wet your appetite, then, John. That's you. You want to see? Yeah, that's my, yeah, my, my, my, untagun. Yeah, because it's the German 4K disc. All right. Join us to do this one, Dave. What do you want to do? Yeah. So we're coming to land. Okay. World War II is over. The season is coming to an end. And what a season it's been. 40s, too. Oh, it's all worth. I finally, it's over. Yes. No grabbing some random nurse and kiss a good each. All right, just because this comes to an end. It will not go well these days. It will not go well, especially not with your sailor hat on. Right. So, so this began weeks ago now, when we dealt with, we started with darkest hour, masterpiece. Went on to Dunkirk, pretty much masterpiece. We then did Operation Mincemeat, very, very good.
Yeah. Then pressure, very, very, very good. Then Private Ryan, Masterpiece. And then we come to this. And I've got to say pretty down close to Masterpiece for me as well. Did you see it? 4K? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So this is 4K. Yeah, so this is the German 4K disc. I'm just going to grab the box a minute. Talk about it if you would. Yeah, I saw it in on Collider'scape in HD with a DTS Master Audio 5.1. And I started with this. I watched probably three quarters of it almost a year ago. Todd and I were talking about it after a show once. He was like, you've got to see this movie. He was telling me about the audio in it and the bass stuff. And I was like, all right. So I downloaded, he saw it as well on Collider'scape. So he was like, download it at that night. But I never finished it. So I never really talked about it. And it is really kind of the way, as we'll talk about the way it builds up to the end. That's kind of where
the way the audio goes. But the, but yeah, it's only in HD. So I'll be interested to hear how good the 4K version is. Yeah. So this is the 4K disc. I'll try and do that without the reflection of the light. So this is the untagang. This is called, which is literally German for downfall. Oh, that's okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So this is the German 4K UHD disc. I couldn't find one anywhere else. And as I think I said last week, if ever there's a movie that's quite good to have the original German version of, it's this film. So yeah, so downfall, 4K UHD disc, it is indeed the SHD 5.1. There's no atmosphere, which is unfortunate. But bearing in mind, this movie is what 2007, something like that, you know, you wouldn't have it. 2004, oh, yeah, yeah. So even, so, you know, an atmosphere of a movie like this, you wouldn't really expect. So, yeah, so the story then moving
through our season, and we end at the coming, impending doom of Nazi Germany, and we find ourselves starting just towards the end of the war where the Nazi high command, essentially sheltering in a bunker. And it's the final days and weeks of the war. And the difference leading up to Hitler, the Hitler is really indeed killer. Spoiler alertage. Spoiler. Yeah, come on. Yeah, exactly. Give the game away. I'm gonna say. Yeah, let's let's start a any conspiracy theories about if he died. But anyway, I was gonna mention that too, because they do a good job with that, because that hadn't been a conspiracy theory, well, ever since, obviously, you they weren't sure. Yeah, yeah, it'll be with Elvis. But anyway, the, so, so yeah, so the film now, what again, as I mentioned last week, and his worth pointing out, the interest initially for this film is that it is a German production.
So a German production in the original German German language. And I think it's always interesting approaching a movie from the other side of a conflict. You know, we're so used to our war movies, you know, in the Western hemisphere, generally, are written by the victors. They're filmed and shot and written directed by the people that won. So to get a perspective, and I, and the other one that I talked about is all quite on the Western front, the Netflix one, that they've got a physical release, which was German language from their side of it. I think there's so much value in, in, seeing the conflict through their eyes. And I think it's fascinating. And so when I first heard of this film, I was, which again, we're talking years and years and years ago, I mean, I've seen it multiple times. That was what intrigued me the most about it. It's like, right, okay, this isn't just a, you know, an English or an American telling of what they think happened in the bunker. This is German production, German language. And it was the inspiration from this as a book, but also
the diaries of the secretary that we see at the beginning. So it's based on proper factors, it works, you know what I mean. And it's absolutely riveting. I mean, the central performance from Bruno Gans is Hitler is a performance for the ages. It's every bit as good as, as old men as Churchill. And it's mesmerizing. You just, you never see anything other than, you know, the character you never, you're never taken out of it with old men. You never think anything other than that's Winston Churchill to me anyway. As I was watching it. And with, with, with downfall, it's the same thing. You can't, you can't see an actor there. You see out of Hitler, which is a thing in and of itself. But why the way? Yeah. Yeah. Bruno Gans for the longest time. He turned this down multiple times, said, I can't, one, I don't want to play this character in two. You can't, you can't get the essence of this guy. It's just not possible. But they found some hidden recordings of him talking and having found that he had found his way into the rhythms and the
cadence of the character beyond the comic sort of stuff that's been portrayed. And I'm so glad he did because, boy, oh, boy, oh, boy, no one else can play that role now. In anything other than a comedic way, I mean, it's, he just inhabits it. It's incredible. And the movie is, is a drama set in this, in this bunker. You do get, you know, you do get lots of decent audio, which will come on to, but there is some action, but generally it's in this bunker. It's a hard watch. It's a difficult watch. We're interestingly, this is rated 12 in Germany. So that's the, again, you see that just says 12 on there. Now, I'm surprised at that. I mean, I think that there's a pretty graphic. It's graphic, but there's some really disturbing kind of content as well. I mean, the, well, spoiler alert. But if you know your history and you know what happened to some of the people in the bunker, yeah, it's not really a spoiler, but it's, it's the fact that they, a few of them they do cutaways. And what we're talking about is, I mean, you talk about spoilers. They do it
all the time in reach. The new season of reach. They open it up with like episode one. It's like, there's a warning. This, this episode contains a suicide. So they warn you right ahead of time. So it's not like all spoilers, you know, and nobody ever seen that. And this is something that we all know, you know, most of the people involved, you know, either did that or, you know, try to escape or whatever. But yeah, it's they did a few where they did, you know, off camera. But they did a ton on screen. Like you just suddenly like bang, like literally. Yeah. And but also not just the adults and also of course, yes. And that was, yeah. Yeah, that that that that scene in particular is a really difficult watch. I actually find that really hard to watch. But it's supposed to be horrific. It's supposed to be horrible. You are supposed to be repulsed. Yeah. By what you are seeing. And
then what's interesting is it's it's a, you know, you use this phrase a lot as well. The thing is shot with a quiet lens as well. You know, it's really, it's almost, I mean, this is what we're poor left would have been interesting with this is and I'll be curious to see what he makes of it. If you can ever get hold of down hauled for less than $100, which is what he's saying in the chat. If if is it's I think it's shot in almost a documentary and way, you know, the camera just kind of floats around. There's no really, it's not really sort of flashy pieces to camera. You know, what I mean, it's all done in a, you know, just a just a fly on the wall kind of, sorry, on a fly on the wall kind of way, which heightens the horror of it because it's so banal. There's no, there's no, you know, creepy tent music or anything like that. It's all just done in a matter of fact. Here it is. This is what happened kind of way and that is is shocking and off putting in the way that I think it should. Yeah. If it's not, you've got a problem. Yeah. Oh,
yeah. I mean, you're looking at that and you're looking for life. I thought it was a car. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What was it? What's the little girl? Yeah. There. I think, you know, like you said, the lack of music score or anything like that playing to, so gives you the feel of maybe a little bit of a feel of a documentary, but, um, but it also sets up like what exactly what Todd was talking about is the the base in this as it builds through the movie because the Russians are getting closer. So you're hearing at the very beginning of the movie and what's fascinating is that, I mean, there's a million fascinating things about this. Like you said, it's like to see the other perspective, which after reading, I read a bunch of, um, stuff online, how they research us, how they came up with this, how accurate it is. Uh, they said a lot of the, the dialogue that Hitler had in this movie is, is, is true to the sources it could be. Like it's pretty much quotes.
Maybe not necessarily at that time, because he goes on some tirades in this to give you an a sense of, of like how deranged he was, if you will. Uh, but it not necessary that maybe he didn't he didn't make those comments, uh, at this time, they might have been months earlier, even years earlier. Um, but they were all brought, you know, a lot of his dialogue was direct quotes from witnesses that they had, which to me is even that, that part there was fascinating. I get the end of the movie when you see who survived, how long they survived. Uh, this movie came out no four, and you see like, there was one person in this movie that was still alive when this movie was made, you know, and they're like still living today in Berlin or whatever. Um, you know, a lot of them went to, uh, Russian prison, uh, that the survivors, I should say, because most of them didn't. Uh, and some disappeared, which we sense, you know, also everybody speculated, ended up in, uh,
you know, South America, uh, to X men again. Yeah, I was just gonna say bring it to our X men story. Um, but yeah, I thought that all of that I thought was fascinating is like to see the other side, to see, to see the people that were like, you see how compartmentalized things were too, right? Because a lot of these people, especially like the women, obviously the children have no idea what's going on elsewhere. Um, but the women were like, oh, we just think we're at war. And it's like nobody likes our way of life. They don't understand. They don't know this concentration camps going. They don't know the extent. It wasn't, it wasn't just a matter of like, you know, hey, we like socialism. That was pretty much what everybody was saying. Like they thought that's what it was over. You're like, yeah, it's not really. I mean, you need to go to war over that. It's a bit more to it. Yeah, yeah, a little bit more. But just, just before, yeah, sorry. But, yeah, sorry, audio. It just says, those wondering, it's 1999 on Amazon, Germany at the moment,
which is what I paid for it. It's steel at that price, people. Sorry, it's gone, but he's sorry. No, that's all right. Um, the, um, the basin, it though, like I was saying, it builds throughout the movie because they're getting closer and closer. And it's like, so, you know, right from the beginning, you're, you're in your theater, which is like a bunker. And now most of this movie takes place in a bunker. So outside your room, you're here in the, um, and one of the children later in the movie is like, they tell them that it's just thunderstorms. Well, yeah, for days and weeks on end, but that's what's coming. So they're like getting louder and louder as the movie go progressively like very slowly two hours. It takes for two and a half hours. It builds actually two hours because the last half hour, it's pretty much over. But, uh, but that alone is like worth this disc just that alone. And I was in DTS, Master Area 51 upmixed. And it was fantastic because they do come out of the bunker.
Then you get some live gunfire. You get some live, you know, bombings and it's like the localization, the, the deep base, the dry as it gets closer, you get localization on which side of the bunker that was coming from, um, really, really well done for this, which is another one that's more like a drama with, it's the audio that makes it an action movie to be real, right? Yeah. Yeah, that's fair. I mean, so yeah, so, so in terms of the home theater side, I mean, the movie is fantastic and everybody should see this. It's a, it's a, it's a study in, in, in, in excellence in acting and writing. And I mean, as with anything, you know, history being a circle and those not learning the lessons of history, of course, are doomed to repeat it. There are certain, you know, I, not making any political comments, but there are certain things going on in the world today that have echoes in this, I would say. Anyway, just, just, just, just say that in passing. But it's an excellent film. The home theater experience. So, yeah, so the 4K desk, now it is,
it's 4K HDR. It's an interesting movie because quite a bit of it is quite soft. So there are some soft focus shots and there are some bits that are not quite as detailed as others. But there is quite a bit of this one a five, of course, fills the screen. And there are some shots in this that are beautiful in 4K. I mean, that are really detailed, you know, the where you see close ups of, you know, Bruno Gans with the makeup on close up. So the, of the soldiers of the little, the little kids, the Hitler youth kids, and all that, that, that, some of that looks incredible. But it's not uniformly razor sharp by any means. There is definitely some, some manipulation going on. And again, if you remember, I can see that in the HD too. Yeah, quite. Yeah. And in the 2004 bear mine, this would have been shot on film, you know, they digital, digital shoot photography didn't really come in till after what Revenge of the Sith was the first one that was fully digital, wasn't it? So you look in 2006, 2008 onwards. So this would have been shot on film. And so that's
going to be inherently part of it. But it does look very good indeed. And I was very pleased with this. And to my, my, to my eyes, it looked better than I've ever seen it before. The audio, DTS HD, Master Radio 5.1, same as yours, I'm sure. I mean, it's big. It's wide. It's expansive. When you get this, the, the, the passive bombing, when you get the things falling, it, it feels like every speaker is, is, is going. Yeah, the bass is great. I did like that. And again, I, when, when, I mean, obviously, I was watching neural X. And so when you do get the, the debris falling after an explosion, it does feel like it's dropping down around you, which is a really cool little effect. Yeah, I can't, I can't recommend the disc enough. I mean, the 4K disc, if you can get it, and it's not, you know, a second mortgage job, then, you know, absolutely pick it up. I mean, I'm sorry, everyone on this side of the pond, if you can get it from Amazon Germany, that'll be delivered for 1999, by the way, you know, from Germany, how they make money with this, I do not know.
But you know, anyone on this side of the pond, you can get it, you absolutely should. And it's a hell of a movie. And Paul actually, Paul F mentioned that it's on Apple TV, but says it's only HD 5.1. That's why Paul, I went looking for the disc because I would, I would have just, oh yeah, the 4K version, you know, would have been fine. So not, but, you know, bearing in mind, the disc is available. That's why I went for that. So let's get to, let's get that disc, let's start someone that disc, then let me ask you some questions. We'll sell that for you. It's not the one about where babies come from. I don't like. No, no, no, no, no, pretty awkward. It's a desk. Yeah, I know. Hey, bang movie. Okay. Or the couch next to the couch. Yeah, there you go. Casting coach. So you've seen that you've seen the blu-ray, right? See, yeah, I'm sorry, I'm trying to concentrate. Sorry, I apologize. Yes, sorry. I mean, I know, I know we can celebrate the fall of Hitler, but, yeah, let's,
excuse me. So if you've seen the blu-ray, which is basically what I just saw, and now you have the 4K. So let me ask you some questions. How are the black levels? Are they consistent? Does it solve some of the grain issue? Because there are, there is a lot of grain, and there is one particular scene that if you've seen the HD enough, you know what I'm talking about, it's at the end, those two, I forget which two was, but they go out to, to, you know, end it. And the camera just before the gunfire shoots to the guards that have the cans of gasoline, right? Everything goes like milky black. Yeah. You remember? And then it, and it stayed, but it wasn't, it was weird. It just shot there. It was like a jump cut in this in the pan, because the camera was a pan, a quick pan from them. And then you see the side of a building as you, as it quickly pants. So you know that's a jump cut because all of a sudden, yeah, yeah, the, you know, the,
the contrast changed dramatically. Like it was almost like an inserted shot, right? And then it comes back to them and you're like, Oh, okay, but it stayed that milky. Did that change? Or did that just stay the same in the 4K? Yeah, I, from, from what I recall, it stayed the same. I don't, they haven't done a, you know, a full, you know, I don't think they've done that. You know, but, the black levels are a little inconsistent. I think that source, source based. I don't think that's, that's problem with the transfer. So there is some inconsistency because of the different lighting effects that they've used, but it's never distracting. I never thought, Oh, God, that's awful. And I've seen bad 4K. We all have, I've seen bad 4K and I've seen bad 1080p. And, and yet this is, is, was never distracting. And as I said, for most of it, it is outright beautiful, you know, as whilst it shouldn't be because obviously the nature of what you're dealing with, it is, you know, the, the
the flesh tones look great. The detail looks really good. The doctor, the guy playing the doctor in it, you know, he's not shaved. As it goes through, of course, he hasn't shaved. And so you see the stubble start. You've come in and you continue every little bit of that. Obviously all the gruesome stuff in the hospital when they're operating and just cutting limbs off left and right. All looks suitably vile. No, it's a really nice 4K disc. And I wasn't sure what to expect because it's not, you know, a flash splashy studio release. You know, this has been done in one particular territory. I don't think the 4K disc is available anywhere else. So then, so again, they're not going to spend a lot of time on it. But I thought it looked demonstrably better than I've ever seen it before. And I never had any issues with the grain. And again, I can be a bit sensitive to that. Sometimes as you know, it's unique. But I never thought, oh, that, you know, that's too noisy, that's blocky or anything like that. No, this is the way to see it if you can see it. Collider's cake will be awesome because that's the best you can get in terms of that. But
you're still well worth picking up. And by the way, you've got to love by the way, looking at that. So that's the image of those listening. Yeah. There's an image on screen of the title of the dish to Untergang. Those are those are moving menus. So again, I just grabbed it. I know it doesn't look good. But you've got to love the German 4K is film start. You've just got to love it. Yeah. The word for some titles is untitled, literally under title. So kind of title. But yeah, film start one word. Yeah. I didn't have to look that up on Google. Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, it's awesome. I mean, it's a fantastic film. And the 4K dish is the best way to see it. Yeah, the grain, the grain wasn't an issue. Even that one with the milky, you know, shot, it actually helps to give you that documentary feel like you are saying like it's like, you're right. They're not overly, you know, they're not really
concentrating on great lighting to show off this. They're not, it's more about what I, what I think is, I don't want to say I dare say fun. But what they did is they told a great story here of like they of something that I don't know if it's been told, but they let you into this part of the war, into this part of the world at the time and to experience this. But it's told literally through the writing, acting, and the audio in the video is literally secondary, right? It's like they're not as concerned because there are some really great close ups like you were saying. And it's like the faces, the you could see sweat. So you could tell like how tense the moment was. But then other times they'd cut away and you're like, it does get grainy on, you know, because it's darker in this shot and they didn't adjust the lens or whatever. So it gives you that documentary feel like you're really there, right? And it's so which is somehow like I said more shocking more
more because yeah, it's so you tell the story and makes you feel like you're watching it as it happened. Whereas if I feel like the audio really needed to be played up so you could feel like it would happen. The writing needed to be writing and acting needed to be there. So you could feel like it was happening. If they overdid the picture, it would have felt too movie like it would have literally taken you out of it in the opposite direction. You know what I mean? Like if this was pristine picture, you'd be like, well, they didn't they couldn't have shot this. And this really feels like they were there. And like you said, it's like, I mean, it's it you can't even describe how eerie it is watching. Yeah, especially at the beginning when he comes in the room. It's just that even as a viewer, you're like, oh, here we go. And it's like, I've got tense yeah, watching and walking in the room. You're like, yeah, yeah, it's great. I mean, it's interesting
that there is such a visceral feelings of what's going on. It's so horrific because it's so banal because it's so matter of fact, he presented, you know, it's interesting. You know, they talk about the banality of evil. Funny, I was talking with Carl Ellsworth about that, you know, the banality of evil, you know, that people that look perfectly normal, they don't wear black hats and have true, you know, twerling with stashes, you know, they they look like you and me and you don't and that's the thing about and that's how they can do what they do because they go under the radar. All right, people just don't realize it. Yeah. And so this film shows you how banal, how just, you know, in a normal kind of way, these people doing what they're doing and it's all the more shocking and all the more horrifying because of how matter of fact they show what is being done. Both to others and indeed to themselves, you know, again, the suicide stuff is all about that. Okay, done. You know, there's no big, you know, smart, you know, close up. There's no big,
you know, swirling music. It's I'm done. Bang. You know what I did get about that though, what I thought I found interesting was the pill and the shot. The gun shot. Yeah, because they thought it was not, yeah, they didn't believe that it was that it was effective. They thought it might actually be not real. Yeah, they'll like to tell them that literally, they took John, they had like a, I don't know if it was cyanide or what? So I know something. Oh, was it? I didn't know if that's what they said, but they're like, here, take this pill, take the cyanide, throw it in your mouth, break it, then shoot yourself. Okay. Then hang yourself, then feed yourself through a mincer. Yeah. Yeah. You know, but the people like Hitler was giving them out and people were honored. Thank you. You know, it's like, thank you for that. So there's like a while. And like one of them was like, you know, you could say what was weird is they did a good job of showing like obviously Hitler's
Hitler side, right? The insanity, the Hitler side of it. There's no other way to describe it. Right? And it's like they, they did a good job. I mean, in brutal, the way he was speaking, the spit in the, he's losing his temper. But then the other side that you were like, he's just, he's acting normal. Like he was sensitive. He was like, he's handing somebody the, like the pill. And he's like, I'm sorry, I didn't have a better gift for you. It's not a gift. But nobody is all one thing. Exactly. You know, as bad as you may be, there's still some redemptive quality to everybody, every person. Well, it was the insanity thought he was doing a good thing. That's the same part. Right. But like I said, yeah, like this is just nobody's all one thing. Right. But it was like, and then the people around him were like scared. And also like just like, oh, okay. Yeah. Thank you. Oh, you know, um, but they did know, by the end, they did know
the things that were wrong, like the women and stuff were like, they signed up for a certain thing and by the end of it all, they were like, should we get out of here? What do we got to do? But they didn't want to, yeah, it's really interesting. Really. It's sad, but it's like you said, Steve, earlier, it's something that, you know, you need to witness and understand. And I think more people should like, you know, with Paul's video, what we talk about, you know, return to Auschwitz and stuff, it's like you need to understand this stuff. We talked about that a lot last week with with other people as well during the week, but it's like, you need to understand this stuff because you're, you're the more people that know the less chance you are to repeat it. Yeah. Well, you know, you know, that's like an Amy van Impal's video. It's like the movie he made is literally four kids. They, you know, it's not violent for that purpose. Just so you can, you don't need to see the violence to understand what happened. And then especially the way you made that movie. It's crazy. Yeah, true. Yeah, it's it's it's an incredible incredible feat of of
moviemaking, but also, yeah, an important and necessary story. Yeah. And but but so well told, so well done. And two and a half hours, as you said, which flies by that time just goes, does never less than then just wrapped. Look, I mean, I mean, I'll probably end up just with the Apple TV, but yeah, do let us know what you think. I think you'll be you'll be just riveted. You know, you just can't. Yeah, I'm definitely interested just based on the conversation. So man, what a film. Don't be surprised if you then want to just see it again almost straight away because it's just kind of just how it out and unfolds is just unbelievable. I found myself doing like a jump back every so often, not because I didn't understand what was said. Because you're doing that you're you're it's all subtyles. So you have to read it all, right? And it's yeah, but I was jumping back. So I could watch them say it like Bruno can't watch him say what I just read,
right? Without having to read it because you see the expressions on their face, you see the detail. You see all that stuff, the acting because you spend so much time in this movie, riveted to reading the bottom of the screen that you're like, if you were to the top, but you're reading it all. And then you're like, okay, and it it that's one of the things I don't like about subtitles. It kind of takes you away from the act like you missed the acting part of it. But then you just you jump back and you're able to, you know, act it, you know, you understand, I haven't learned German, but you know, it's like you're able to see the acting. Yeah, it's okay. I'm just Paul just says Paul F again, because I think we we really should mention this movie often. So it says we were hoping to reach the seventh and eighth grade level with the documentary. And that's the age A.J.T.s the Holocaust here in the US, usually only for a day though sadly. And that that movie we're talking about, because again, we forget, don't we, because we yeah, we're here, we can week out. We know what we're talking about, but this is a documentary that Paul F made that, which is about the survivor Alex Monk. What was it?
And it's an incredible piece. I mean, Paul, if you were able to put a link in the in the in the in the chat, if that's okay, D just well, you know, just put a link in the chat to it. Paul so Lincoln can say I'm trying to find the image because we did have the image for it. But it actually is like really where we should wrap up the season. Return to Auschwitz. It's like here we have this. And it's like so great. Now, but it's on quite well. Yeah, and we should because it's on Amazon too, as well. Amazon too. What about Amazon one? Yeah, well, you got to see the first one. It's like time. Oh, we are on World War 11. So yeah, the important is the equals. But yeah, no, it's well, I was having me interrupt, but there's a few people in chat that are talking about Nuremberg as well. Yeah, yeah. No, I didn't see that. Okay. And that is excellent as well. So you guys have not seen it. I do recommend. I think that was Apple. I can't remember now. It was one of Netflix. I was probably Netflix. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, that, you know, as long as we're kind of in the season,
probably a good companion piece to this film that you just watched. Yeah, definitely take a look at that as well. I listened to it. I did an audio book about the Nuremberg. I mean, they say Nuremberg trials, but they were actually caught smarthial. But I read it. Yeah, an audio book about it or listen to an audio book about it a while back, fascinating. What happened there? Because you know, people talk about the Nuremberg defense. This idea, why I was just following orders. Right. That's not what they were argued at Nuremberg. That was at the end of the first World War. Those are during the Vomile Trials. Because by the time they got to the Second World War, every German soldier carried an orders book. And in that, in the front page, right under the cover, it said, you are responsible for the orders that you carry out. And so they couldn't run the Nuremberg defense in Nuremberg. It's a common myth. But also, get this guy. Just, I'm fascinated by this again, from a legal perspective. The Nazis on trial, I as a court's marshal at Nuremberg, were given a list of 54 lawyers that they could choose from
to represent them. And they found it really difficult to find lawyers, obviously, that would take the job on. But they were given a list because it was felt that it was important that they should choose their own lawyers as much as possible to represent them. I mean, talk about a poison channel. Can you imagine getting a call? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Steve, I know you want to go home. I know it's five to five on a Tuesday evening. We've got a case that's just coming in. We've just had a call. Do you mind just doing a trial for this fine? It'll be, it won't take long. It won't take long. Yeah. Yeah. All right. You'll be fine. Can you imagine it? How they must have felt? I do not know. And I say that with 26 years of experience of doing trials. But I could, I tried to think what that would have been like. But yeah, okay. So Nuremberg is good, though. And well, where's the, yeah, we're seeing. Is it on this? Or is it only? I don't think so. I mean, I've never looked to be honest with you. I watched it on, I like, I want to say Netflix, but I watched it on one of the streamers. And they said, really, again, enjoy is not the right
word, but really found it interesting. And you know, thought it was a great film. Russell Crowe is phenomenal. Again, you're talking about this actor with Hitler. Russell Crowe is very similar. They said, hold your fingers on this. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Well, look at that. It's on the landscape and all the Dolby's and okay, cinematic. Yeah. I have Dolby Vision Dolby Atmos. Yeah, that one's up there. I already have it. I just haven't watched it yet. Yeah. Jordan, I'm being lazy. Jordan, is it on, can you tell me as my release date guru, is it on disc anywhere in the UK? Say, he's be looking. He's very unusual for that sort of thing. He is. He knows. Yeah. Yeah. He's crazy. He's got a cyclopeding. So always say, yeah, always send me links to you sent me the links to the rings of power discs. Oh, yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Fair play. But it's, but yeah, no, it's it'll be interesting to see. I'll certainly, yeah, I'll certainly give that a watch. Along disc and Italy Holdger says, okay, all right. Well, I'll dig that out. See what we find that because it is an interesting time of
of history and all the rest of it. But I think this is where we draw a line under our World War 11 season because we've been going on a while. And we know we've got another one coming hot on its heels. Yeah. So it's funny that we're like everything we're saying, though, like we, you know, Steven, I were talking earlier today. John, I tried to include you, but what we are, like after, you know, we're closing out our World War 11 and we're going into countdown to Doomsday. Right. And we're going to open up literally open up with World War two. In X-Men. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You go right. You return to the wash went. Yeah. You're an X-Men. So yeah, really, really funny how like things happen like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Not at all. Oh, I got to find your email or something or any email because I started a calendar for us.
Oh, well, I mean, I don't know why you say I don't have emails because I got 70,000 spam emails from the Brightside Chat today. Oh, that's not spam. That's me. I mean, I didn't say there was spit. Well, they were just saying what because there was 70,000 of like I have a little sensitive. That's really hurt. Three pages of emails from Brightside Chat. Me too. Me too. I, I, you know, it was very sweet to teach to harass us. Anything more than one is spam. I know Steve texted me. He goes, I got a lot of invitations. Yeah, man. I got to come through to you guys like every single time I updated it gives you an invitation. Yeah, it got us to give us another email. Yeah. Yeah. So I was like, and I need you to be. I didn't think I was annoying enough. Well, I need to miss a very important email from the legal aid agency over here because it was right in the middle of these things. And I nearly just kind of like, I nearly just sort of, you know, deleted that one. You can all know that. Yeah. But it was all good. It's all good. No,
and it's cool. It's cool. But again, timing is perfect, isn't it? Yeah. Oh, my God. Yeah. So we, like I already said, when I do get it, or so, John, you're in the calendar. So you understand, but we, I was able to map out all the way. Not map out, but schedule out all of our shows with that bringing us right up to the Tuesday before Doomsday is released. Right. And it works out. It actually, it, it almost didn't if we waited any longer because we'll be able to do X-Men than the following week X-2. And then we're going to double up on Loki and Shang-Chi. Because we only have 14 weeks in this. Well, and we want you to like, when we get to Loki, are we talking about two seasons of Loki? Yeah. So I guess, because I haven't seen season two yet. You're presupposing that I read a single one of those emails. I just kind of deleted every one. Yeah, but you don't have to read the email. You should be able to notice the key. Just put it in your calendar, add that to your iPhone calendar. And it'll show on the Tuesday. It might have,
actually, it might have actually added. I'll go take a look and see. Because I deleted it. I mean, I just, I just, yeah, yeah, delete. But you should, you should be able to add that, go in your calendar and add that to it. Yeah, I'll take it. It'll all be there. Yeah. But yeah, but yeah, Loki's the only thing that's more than a, like a movie, right? Like, that's a commitment. Yeah, that's the only one that's a series. And we've got like eight weeks to get there or six weeks, I think, before we're, I've got to, I'm going to start. I've got endgame now to see. And then once I've done that, I'm going to hit Loki and do that because I've got, I've seen season one, but I'll rewatch that. And then I've got all season two. I've never seen. So I've got the 4K discs of those. So I mean, it's good excuse to watch them. Yeah. So yeah, we'll pull it up. That's not it. That's not it. That's what I've been using from, you know, film.co, whatever that is. I took the film. Yeah, I took the film. And so yeah, we got X-Men X2, Captain America, and we'll do these
right in order. The only ones we're doubling up is the Loki and Shang-Chi. And it brings us, you know, the Tuesday before the movie is released, but what Doomsday will be, you know, talking the Fantastic Four for steps. So we're going to do other stuff as well, aren't we? This is just good. That's just that. That's how just our countdown to Doomsday. There'll be other titles. They may not make the show title that week, whatever, but like Steve and I were saying like Nick, like, so we'll do X-Men next week, the week after we'll do X-2. Plus we're all kind of ventured into other X-Men movies. So we'll prior to all those on X-2 week, you know, and go and have fun with it, really. Just yeah, I've already watched First Avengers, John, Steve, I think we all have already done that one. I think Steve's almost done. He's on to do the Avengers. Yeah. I think Steve's on Doomsday. I don't know. Yeah, it's really good. He's flying. Yeah. Yeah. That's fine. No one needs to know.
It's updated. I see Steve watched another one. I'm like, are you even going to remember this when we get there? Yeah. When we get to Avengers endgame, are we going to be discussing the theatrical re-release? Or are we going to be talking about? Good question. Yeah. I'm not trying to fall. I'm going to see it. Yeah. I'm not going to. I'm going to try to go. I'm going to try. Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to. I can't wait. I have a conversation on the difference. Yeah. I can't wait that long. So I'm going to, I'm up to, I've did Infinity War on like Friday night, Saturday night. And I have to say, and I, and, and rarely because of the length of that, but rarely I was able to watch the whole thing in one sitting because normally I get pulled, you know, told away, you know, do another stuff. Yeah. And I've got to say that film is just ludicrously easy to rewatch. That is just, yeah. Oh, no, Infinity War. I'm going on to maybe. Yeah. It was just so easy to watch. Yeah. It's just a breeze to see it. I mean, they all have been actually so far. All of it's been an absolute. It's also easy to worry about. It is to rewatch the really. Yeah. Yeah. It's, yeah.
It's also easier to watch knowing endgame, knowing the end event. Yeah. I know. But, uh, yeah. So, yeah. So I've got endgame. I'm going to do that. And then I'm going to rock on with Loki, even though some very interesting titles came out here yesterday. Um, and I'll slip those in as I go. But yeah, I'm, endgame is going to be great. I don't think I'm going to be able to get to the theaters. Um, other than I do want, have you seen the endgame, um, Infinity Gauntlet popcorn bucket? I know. It's 50 bucks people. And that doesn't the popcorn everywhere. Yeah, it's like it's not going to be specific to a theater. It's, I was going to take a thought you'd see the beach. Yeah, it's an Infinity Gauntlet full size lights up. And that the back of the, the, the, the, the fish sort of opens up and you put popcorn in there. Uh, so yeah, 50 bucks. Not that doesn't include popcorn. Um, but, you know, it looks really cool. So I think I'm going to probably get that, but I don't think I'm going to get to see the film in theaters. I'm just going to, you know, just, just watch it at home. But having seen Infinity War and reminding
myself of that, it's so good in home theater that I don't, I don't care. It's the, where is this thing? Yeah. All right. If you want popcorn bucket, yeah, Infinity Gauntlet. Yeah. Yeah. Got that popcorn. Yeah. But yeah, Infinity Gauntlet popcorn bucket. It's all, all the theaters have got them here. Well, they're going to have them. They're in a september that are coming out when the movie drops. Um, not found it. Oh, fine. No, is this it? Let me, let me just grab this image here and I'll put it up for you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just like I said, they've been, they've been, they've been, they've, they've been on Twitter and everything. I mean, the various theaters over here are already advertising it. There's a, there's a lighter like popcorn bucket thing as well. Oh, Iron Man helmet actually, which lights up and it projects a in-game thing and so on to the wall, which is quite cool as well. So no, that's not it, Deach. No, no, no, no. That's not it. That's not it. Right. Two seconds.
Two seconds. Yeah, no, that's not the one that might have been from before. That might have been from the original in game. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Avengers and game lights up. Sorry, but band looks thing up on computer. Let me see. If not, I'll send you it after the thing. It's been, it's all over the thing. Yeah. It's been, it's not, you know, it's kind of not, not, um, I mean, I won't share it because I shared it goes wrong. Doesn't it? We tried that before. It went really wrong. No, you should be able to. You can't put an image at the bottom. There it is. There. This is it here. Right. So if I, if I just click on, I don't know what's gonna. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I didn't put it on my, yeah. I'll just take a photo of it there. No, right? Because it's like off the screen. That's okay. Yeah. It's easier in there. There you go. But it looks very cool. Now this is just taken from eBay. Right. Just bear with me. Sorry, people. Again, man takes picture of thing on computer. There you go. It's not really very exciting TV. Is it? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
It is. Yeah. You all going to want to see this stage. You're going to love this. It's got you've written all over it. This one should have been in the YouTube only part. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. There you go. Sent these. Oh. Oh. Yeah. That's the. Yeah. That's the, uh, that's the Iron Man Conlet. Yeah. That's why I know. This is the Infinity Garden. Yeah. No. The Fist Zone. I know. But that's why I mean. Oh, yeah. I get you. Yeah, yeah. So I own Infinity Gauntlet. But anyway, yeah, so 50 bucks, but very cool. That is. Yeah, it is really cool. Hang on. I'll put it up on this. I'll put on picture of your computer screen up on this thing. Yeah, nothing confidential on there. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Look at that. Tell me that's not cool. It says endgame on the base at the bottom as well. And as I said, it lights up all the different jewels life, you know, the Infinity Stones all lights up. So in their selling it for approximately $116. Yeah, but this is pre sale. It's nonsense.
Yeah, my sheep and I don't do that scalper price. This only just because they're putting it up. But you will, it's it's $49.99 here, which is what it'll be there. And they're everywhere. It's not one theater exclusive, at least not in the UK. Anyway, everyone's gone. So it's just a case of then they drop kind of end of September. So yeah, looks cool, man. I'm going to get that. Even I like the look of that. And I'm running out of space with popcorn buckets. But I've got to get it because it just looks cool. Yeah, no, that is cool. That would look cool over there. I got on the couch. Oh, I've got I wonder the test. Yeah, that's what the bottom was. Without the glove. Anyway, John heard me. Yeah, I got two buckets up there. I've got the main. Go on and grow go. Bucket, which we can hit. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, and then you got super go on as well, each. Yeah, that's down on the floor. Okay. All right.
That's never going away. I'll be the she. Oh, yeah, that's never going away. That's right. Talking of which. Yeah, nice. Yeah, man. I am. It's good. Really looking forward to rewatching that. Yeah, I good. Yeah, I did too. Yeah, it's a fun movie, but the home theater is really good too. So I'll be good to tell you. Yeah. Okay, you want to get to this? We've all seen it. Let's do this. Yes, this can be the rest of the show. He even got some images. Straight from the screen. Straight from the screen. Oh, that's it. That's straight from the screen. Yep. Yeah, I know. I know. Oh, my God. It looks like you're from a magazine or something, doesn't it? It looks like a drawing. No, it looks like something. Yeah. Yeah. So, but it is pretty cool. Yeah. All right. Okay, let's stop teasing. All right. Here we go. Not that button. Not that button.
Don't you write John? Do you want to introduce this one? Oh, you can. Sure. Yeah, the most recent one. Yeah. Most recent one to watch it first. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I tried to wrap my head around that. I watched it a while ago. No, you were the one that put it in. I was like, all right, I'll rewatch that. Yeah. So this was Mandalorian in Grogu. On I watched it on Disney Plus. So I don't know how anybody else watched it. Yeah, be too. Okay. So yeah, this dropped. Well, I don't know within last week or so on Disney. Yeah. It's recent. Yeah. Yeah. And I checked it out this weekend. So it is IMAX enhanced. Of course, 4K ultra HD, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, all the good stuff. I don't know if the disc will have. Yes, it does. Okay. Okay. Classical. Okay. Yeah. So does IMAX enhanced it had very ill aspect,
variable aspect ratio throughout which was I thought used in a confusing way. But yeah, at times, most of it's pretty good, but we could talk about the end panel scene. Well, I guess to get yeah, to get into that piece of it, right? Because we all know the movie, right? Like most of us have seen this movie. I really enjoyed this in the theaters. I was looking forward to watching it again. I wasn't sure what to expect. Of course, with the Disney Plus stream, but notice right away that there was variable aspect ratio. And at least in the very beginning, I understood the use of it to be indoor scenes were going to be, you know, was it two, three? Yeah. Yeah. Two four. Four four five two four. And then outdoor scenes were going to be enhanced and full screen. And that's the way it went for about 25 minutes of the movie.
And then it just started kind of happening all over the place, Willie Nilly. So I don't really understand how the logic behind how it was used. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. I thought the, I personally thought the presentation of Disney Plus was phenomenal. I thought it looked fantastic. And I thought it sounded fantastic. And I enjoyed this movie so much more the second time around watching it at home than I did in the theater. In almost 100% of that is due to the home theater experience of it on Disney Plus. So I don't know how kaleidoscape was and I don't know how disc will be, but I am looking forward to hearing about that and seeing it on disc because it can't be, you know, it can only be better and it was already fantastic. So, yeah, Deej, do you better to do what we did? I've already done mine. So why don't you go and hold it? All right. Well, yeah. So I, yeah, so Disney Plus again as well. The disc is now for another
couple of weeks here. So I wasn't about to wait. And I, yeah, I popped this on expecting good things, but not expecting the quality of what I got. I, in terms of the iMac stuff, so the iMac screen scenes in this are exactly the same as it was in theaters. I saw it in iMacs in theaters and it was exactly the same. So it's just the same, the same, not print if you don't mean, but the same version of it. So yeah, and it does kind of randomly just swap to, you know, to 1, 8, 5 back to 2, 4, or 2, 3, 5. And so I was ready for that. I would say second time round. I mean, I was, I liked it in theaters. I enjoyed it. But my, what I found in theaters, as I said, other than the nostalgia bait which Rob will talk about in a minute, which is why I took those photos. Not only did it look great, but those were the shots I talked about way back when we reviewed it. I think I enjoyed it a little less
second time. Yeah, because in theaters, it felt very episodic. It felt like I was watching a series, just just binging a series. And that was only kind of magnified watching it at home. It just felt like I'm just, I am, I'm just doing this whole series in one without the watch next episode, you know, button, it was just let it go. And I felt it more second time round. I felt it even, even more than it doesn't mean I don't like it. I just don't love it. And it just feels like, as I say, a series writ large. So I did like it a little less. I don't think I'll be coming back to this terribly often. But I'll buy in the dish day one. And I'm buying the dish because I agree with you, you know, 1000% in terms of the home theater. I think for me, in in cinema, George, this was one of the best streaming experiences I think I've ever had. It looked phenomenal,
sounded incredible. And interestingly, I didn't have to bump this, which I very often do with Disney. I normally have to kind of bump it, you know, 304 DB just to give it that extra push. I didn't have to do that this time. Yeah, I did not either. And so I got a really good, really basic, present, surround experience. And match with really, really nice video. And I'm not even going to say nice video for a stream. Because if what I saw in her had been on the disc, I would have been perfectly happy with that. So yeah, bring on the disc. I mean, I, you know, great. So movie, yeah, presentation. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So what would you say? These, what do you think? Yeah, I have a kaleidoscope. I was like, what he said. Yeah, that's my line. Yeah, exactly. I was coming. Yeah, I have it on obviously on kaleidoscope, the only at Miss Dolby Vision, all of that and all the Dolby's. And I didn't really get a chance to compare,
but I just history being what it is. We know, I mean, the dynamics of the audio is only going to be elevated. And it is fantastic. And I said, when I talked about it before, there is no, at-mouse here. It is not some really, really good bass, which is what kind of the lower they go, that's what creates that dynamic, right? It's like you can, they can have all the high pitch they want, but it's getting that low and the explosions at the beginning, it brings life to what you're seeing on the screen. The screen going, you know, the iMacs enhanced or whatever you want to call it, it really draws you in to those scenes to the point that like what John was saying earlier is great. It's like, you're paying attention to it, but you're enjoying it. You're like, you go into a building, you're like, I can't wait to get back out. And then all of a sudden, they switch it up. And you're like, okay, now they're not doing it. And then they do it again, you're like, yay. And then they don't. And you're like, then the one at the end that I mentioned
was really weird that they're like, everything's outside, but then they go in on Sigorni Weaver. And it was, in the detail is fantastic. I don't know what they would do. But it's just they got a tight shot on her. It was kind of like the only one in Maverick. Top got Maverick, then doesn't get the widescreen. It was just weird. But yeah, the storytelling, it's definitely, I mean, I think what happens with the picture and the sound being so good and being the, you know, the production level is raised so high that now you're like, but it's still written like a TV show. It's still three episodes of Mandalorian, really, right? And that's just evident by the story. And it's, but it's still so much fun. Yeah. But it just, it kind of makes you realize the difference between, you know, filmmaking and then what we get in, you know, in a series.
Yeah. And to be fair, I still have my, you know, I still have my issues with it, it is story-wise. But I just thoroughly enjoyed like I just found myself grinning and enjoying it so much because it was such a good presentation that I really did enjoy it more this time around. I still don't know why it exists fundamentally like a story. That's not going on the back of the box. But like, as a story, I don't know why it didn't further the, it didn't further the story for either one of them really in any meaningful way. I, you know, again, no spoilers because I'm sure there's people that haven't seen it. But, you know, I just don't think it did anything for the characters, but I had a great time watching it. And I will watch it again. And I will buy the disc and I will watch it again because it's a good time. But yeah, I agree with everything you're saying story-wise. We talked about that. It was probably more privately because I wasn't back
on the show and this was in theaters. But we all had the same mind of, like, why does this, you know, why, why did they make this? What is it doing? You know, why is this not just on Disney Plus in episodes? But it's just a good time. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, yeah, absolutely. I mean, for me, the most important thing for this is the home theater presentation. But yeah, I like to say, I don't hate this. I don't dislike it. I just, just, it just felt plodding it places and and and in consequential, which I think is what, you know, what I think so where I agree with you, John, like you say, they're the same at the beginning as they are at the end. There is no character arc as such. You know, and I don't know. It's like, oh, it's like, oh, we said that. Yeah, it's like if, like, so they have three seasons of Mandalorian. If they did a fourth, this is like the week in the middle that something happened between between five. Yeah, it was like 3.5, right? Really? Okay. So he had to go do that. It's like, okay, it's like, it was either this or the watching him do
us laundry or something. Okay. Yeah. This is underpants and is helping on, you know, it's all a bit weird. It's just, it's just, it's just odd. But yeah, no, it, and as I said, I, I, but so impressed with how this looked that I took some photos off the screen, which I then tweeted out, which again, I don't do very often these days. And I, and I put them in, and again, I put them in the shed folder as well, just because I love these shots. Now, you troopers going to mess with this a bit in terms of the compression. But, you know, these are taken straight off the screen. And I just, this was the shot that I was talking about when I said, you know, my memory of Empire Strikes Back, the bit I always go to is when I was very young, we'd taken to the cinema in New Zealand last, last show last night. And, and what I remember most of this massive screen, because I was only a little one, with these huge walkers and being just transported by these things. And instantly fell in love with the design. And this movie gives you, or give me anyway, a couple
of those shots. So there's this one, which is one of the first ones you see there. Just, it's a, it's a, it took about Smash Cut stage. These come out of nowhere. And there it is. And it's just this, oh my god, oh my god. And then you get the next shot as well, which gives you the scale of them. Yeah, which is that one. And that, that is a shot that could have been from Empire Strikes Back. And I, yeah, and it just utterly transported me in the theater in, in, in, when I saw this in theaters earlier this year. And it had the same effect again at home, because again, it goes from two, three, five straight out to wide. And it's just awesome. I love that shot. The composition of that shot is, I think, of beauty. Yeah, it also shows how stupid they are. Like who would take those things on a mountain pass? Yeah. Yeah. You're falling off the edge, right? Yeah. Like what do you think they, they clearly aren't light-footed. So you're putting them on the edge of a cliff. And they're like, oh, it's going over. Who could have seen that coming?
Violets. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Watch these images. I'll put them up on, when I, when I published this, the show, I'll put them up on now, the website under the show. And it's like really like, you know, look at them. It's like, they're, John, if you can't see them that well, or you have them, actually you have them on your, you have them in the folder. They're literally drawings. You can see how this was done. But on your screen, as it's moving, it looks, you know, great. But then here you see, it's like, it looks like something we did in pencil when we were in school, John. Well, that one specifically, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This one exactly. And then I mean, this one had, but even this one still does look like that. And you got the laser in there and stuff. Right. Laser shot. But yeah. So I love, love those shots. That's my favorite part of the movie. Once we get beyond the walkers, it's like, okay, settle in there. Well, that's the first five minutes. Yeah. Exactly. But that's where I'm most, where I'm most excited. And most of what I
just movie is the first five minutes, as soon as I said, this is episode one of season four. Yeah. Right. So that's what this would have been. And once episode one is ended and it's like, okay, right? Well, we're, you know, comfort mode now. But I'm at my most interested during this opening, but this bit's just great. It just speaks to me because of the nostalgia. And I I, you know, awesome. Loved it. And if you haven't tried it yet, you haven't seen it yet. This is just very cool. I just started it. And definitely one of those movies that is greatly enhanced by the whole theater experience. Oh, yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's the way it's meant to be seen. It's like, I mean, it is, does feel episodic. So I guess watching it in your living room is just like watching it. But even the Mandalorian series feels like it needs, I mean, that's a home theater experience as well. So yeah. Well, with a couple of the episodes they played with the changing aspect ratios as well, didn't they? Yeah. So two of season two, the Craig Dragon thing that they episode, I think it was episode one.
And then they never did it again. Yeah. Yeah. They never did it again. The whole season. I think it was actually season three episode one. Oh, okay. One of the Craig Dragon one is think. I think they never did it again. Because I remember I was in my theater at the time. Obviously back then. And I used my mask. Right. That is manual. I have to get up and put it in. It's so like I saw the and they only did it at the very end. Right. And you're like, oh, I saw that leaking into the mask. And I'm like, oh, let me take the masking down back and I've watched that scene again. So then the rest of the series I watched without the masking. Because I didn't I figured they'd be doing variable aspect ratio. Nope. Nope. Nope. It just the rest of the series I had that, you know, but it used the masking. But yeah. But yeah. So awesome home theater, as I said, my favorite Disney plus home theater experience. I think the best one I've seen or heard. Yeah. And which would make sense,
because it's the newest. But it for me, it this is the best one I've seen and heard. I think this This is a new level for Disney. It's funny too, because when the Mandalorian first came out, it was the black levels were in question. It was just great. I was like, it just didn't do nothing. I was wondering is it my system? And then the more people talked about it, I think, you know, I will like, oh, okay. I know John and I talked about it back then, but it's, yeah, it's just, and now even still, you upgrade your system. I go to this the first, you know, episode one, a Mandalorian. Yeah, still great out. Okay. Still great. Yeah. Alrighty. So you have very cool. All right. Let's see. What, let me, let me hit you with a experience I had this week. I have two to get to, but we'll hit this one. Actually, which one do we want to do first?
All right. We'll do this one first. Wild at, yeah. So wild in Denver at Cedia. Here we go. Took in Terminator 2, judgment day of the 35th anniversary with, there we go. There we go. There's a major. Paul and, you know, Joe Kluznik met us there and you could see it was a packed theater. Lots of interest. Lots of sleep. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is after the movie. We took this picture. Paul took the picture after the movie ended. He did snap a few while we were there and while the movie was playing. Notty-notty-pull. Yeah. I didn't even, I was sitting right next to him. Didn't even know we did it. So, yeah, didn't even know we did. So it wasn't disturbing and it's well documented movie.
So I don't think it was stolen. Is that a curved screen or is that just an angle? Yeah. It's taken out. Yeah. Yeah. It was curved. It's a fairly big screen too. It was really nice. It was a great, the audio wasn't as good as what we get now at home. But like most, this wasn't in there. What is it? Regal SIM RDX, I think it was. This is what this place had for the top screen. But I, the three of us were like, I don't think I've seen this in the theater since 91. Yeah. That's the weekend it came out, right? And it's definitely have not. Yeah. So it was, it was crazy. It was crazy to see it. I did. Was it the director's cut? Like always in the theatrical? Nope. No, the theatrical cut, the original. Well, that's what came out 35 years ago. Yeah. I know, but it's so much better than the director's cut. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that was like, I mean, I say it all the time when I walked out of this 35 years ago, I was disappointed because I had read the book, which is basically the director's
cut, right? And I was like, they miss so much. And then I was so happy that it was like years later before we got the director's cut. I think it was like two years, three years, something like that. Yeah. Oh, it's so good. Yeah. And they had at the beginning of it, the reason you see Cameron there on the screen is like they had a whole like they interviewed Cameron. The kid was not a kid anymore. Ed Furnham. Yeah, it would for a long. He did not age well. Yeah, he's a strange looking guy, isn't he? Yeah. Yeah. He's been through it. He's been through it. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. And a few other people, Paul might remember in the chat. But they were really just talking about make it. Oh, what's his name that played the T1000? He was... Robby Patrick. Robby Patrick. Yeah, you go. Bobby Patrick, because he's known to his friends. Yeah. So that was, you know, hearing them talk about it. But I thought Cameron had a really cool thing.
He was talking about how like he knew making the first one that he wanted to make this one, right? And the arc that he wanted to have is he's like basically describes to you that he wanted you to cry for a machine. And that's what like make you feel the emotion for the machine. But he was also mentioning stuff about like could AI do this? Could robots do that? And that's what he was thinking back in the 80s, which I think is crazy. They could watch this and it's like all the stuff that's going on now and everything with AI, with robotics and all that. But for him to say that, it's like, you know, writing one. And then, you know, taking that into two because I know obviously I read the book, but I know a lot of people were surprised when this movie came out that it's like Arnold wasn't the bad guy in this one. And it was, you know, because all the trailers, everything, nothing gave it away. So it was, I mean, it's a pretty, I mean, I don't think people can even imagine that
now. It's like, I've forgotten that like, oh, yeah, that was a big like, you know, I know whenever I read the book, it was a big reveal. You know, you're like, wait, what? He's the good guy, which is really cool. But, but yeah, I see in this again in the theater, it was like they were commenting like, oh, I thought you were going to be like, with the seat, my favorite scene when the door blows across. And it's like, it was great. And it, because it's a bigger screen. So the speakers are further apart. So it's, you know, way more dramatic in that aspect. Yeah, seeing all the scenes, seeing the, you know, the one miners and everything like that, all that on the big screen again. And like you said, even or like I was showing you before with the picture, just seeing stuff like that, seeing that image on the big screen all over again. And it's just the detailed stuff, shooting the T 1000 and breaking everywhere. It's so much fun. And it was, it was, it was a kind of like, it was not kind of, it was Paul's ideas.
Like, oh, what do you want to do? Well, like, because we were done with CD at five in the afternoon and he's looking up. And he's like, T2 is playing 35th anniversary. I was like, what's more, I propose than that while we're out here. So, yeah, and that joke, you know, it told Joe and he's like, oh, you mind if I meet you? I'm like, yeah. It's a private screening just for us. Yeah. Well, it looked like it was. It was any fun for you. Yeah. So, but yeah, like, perfect. So, you know, he's like popped in and yeah. Michael. Pretty cool. Hmm. So, all right. Yeah, let's see. What do you want to do next, Steve? What John next? Yeah. Yeah. I have anything else. In that case, I did two relatively quick ones. We'll do the Michael Douglas one. Did you just been there a while? Oh, yeah. All right. Let me drop that. Now, this could be a takeover Tuesday, but we'll just, let's just, like, we'll let, we'll, yeah, for the ratatriezens, right? Yep. I'll remember, right? Yes, indeed.
So, we can help with time, is it? Yeah, we got a little time, and I want to help. Yeah, OK. This one I put it on over a month ago, so I should really get it. Yeah, there it is. I found it. Yeah, there we go. Got it. OK. That's the one. Here we go. Sponsored by. Brought to you by. LAUGHTER Oh, yeah. So, this, then, he is the, I've probably helpedfully said there. The arrow re-release 4K UHD disc in a slightly odd DTS, DTS HD 4.0 audio. Oh, god. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, DTS. That's it. Yeah, I know. Very odd, but there it is. Falling down. Now, I say this is a potential takeover Tuesday, because the politics of this film and the morals or lack thereof of this film is a whole, you know, can of worms about which I could talk forever. I abhor the message of this movie, and I genuinely, well, if we start down that rabbit hole
these forever, would it dominate our destiny? I'm not bringing us back. Yeah, no. Why, we got them here. Yeah, well, obviously, it's spelled physique. He's the, he's the eye candy, dude. He's the eye candy. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Yeah, so the problem with this film is he defends Michael Douglas's character. He's, I believe, and I think the tagline of the movie supports it. The film wants you to root for this man, to identify with this man, to go along with this person and his worldview, which is absolutely outrageous in my view, and is horrible. This man is vile. And both he was back then in 93 or whatever it was when this came out, and he is ultra vile now when you realize the coercive and controlling behavior, sorry to use those words again, people. Gov. Gov. The controlling behavior, he's stalking his absolute moral vacuum.
He is a horrible person, and he and spoiler alert people. He gets his comeuppance and so he should, but I think this movie wants you to sympathize with this man, and I do not. However, so having said that, it is a film that he's acting is awesome. I mean, you know, he, Michael Douglas is fantastic as this. Yeah, very unlikable character. The Robert De Valle is awesome in it as well. And in fact, I mean, I've seen this film a number of times, but I haven't seen it for a long time. And I think he's a much more interesting character than I remember. I thought he was just an untold for this, you know, Mertar special. That's how I remembered him, but actually he does much more to his characters, much more layered than I realized. And I enjoyed spending more time with him than I did when Michael Douglas character. But it is, it's a, it's a riveting film. I'm not going to call it a good film, because I'm not entertained when I watch it. I am in thralls and appalled in equal measure.
But it's a riveting film. And I know there's all sorts of dichotomies and things in that. I mean, what do you guys think of the movie? I mean, you both have seen it. I'm sure you have. Oh, yeah. Sorry. And I have laser. Is that wrong? What I'm saying? Do you go vehemently disagree with that? I think that's the point of the movie. I don't think you're offence at all. No, no, no, no, no, no, let me, let me expand on that a little bit. It's the point of the movie in Malt been like I've said about a lot of movies is the point of art is to evoke an emotion. And it's like the fact that you make that opinion is what this movie is about, right? Some people might look at it a different way. Some people might have sympathy for them. Some people might say, yeah, I see what that is. But then you know, you could be kind of in the middle on that. And it's I understand completely what you're saying. And it's like, you could, for the people that could say like, well, I have sympathy for them.
But then other people like that doesn't justify anything that he's doing, right? It's like, because what was the tagline? It's like a bad day. Anybody can have a bad day or something. Yeah, it's like the, yeah, one, one ordinary man has an extraordinary day. So he's, there's nothing ordinary about this guy. He's psychotic. Right. So I, that's the thing is like where you have, yeah, exactly. So that's, I think to me is like, that's the idea of the movie is to provoke the conversation which it does to you. It definitely does. Absolutely. Like you said, it's take over Tuesday. And it's like you watch it and then like you could have it, you know, like book clubs type, type sit down and they're like, what did you think? Well, come on, you can't, you know, I could totally see a discussion, a conversation that people would be debating the merits of him or, you know, the sympathy or anything like that. But I love the movie. I was like, you know, when this came out, it was pretty unique, right?
It wasn't. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. What would you say would be closer to it like taxi driver? Yeah. Yeah. It's, yeah. That's not that level. Yes. It's, it's clearly a Vokie taxi driver. There's a little bit of death wish in there as well. Yeah. A little bit. Yeah. Yeah. You know, you name it. They were in there. It's a 70 sort of throwback in some respects. But with it, you know, but again, I think, you know, I'm going to say, you know, I'm going to say, but again, I think the politics of it is, is all weren't things better back in the day when, you know, you could do these things. I mean, actually, just looking at that image now, I've just suddenly realized again, and I didn't, and I took that picture. It, there is, there is, there is meaning in the fact he's choosing Coke classic and not the woke diet Coke, you know, that's, that's the kind of thing I just, ugh, the birth of the manosphere in this movie, and I hate it. Sorry. Anyway, that was the thing in the 80s, but in 90s, 90s, 90s, 90s, 90s, 90s, 90s, 90s, 90s, 90s, 90s, this is the thing, but it's... Oh, well, again, 93, 93, 93. Oh, is it really? Yeah.
I think it's really in there. Yeah. No, it's definitely in there. I think it's 93. I mean, double check. Yeah. I want to get it to real, 93. There we go. Yeah. So again, it's this thing. So I, so I have issues with that. Now, I'm glad to say, though, the home, the arrow version of this movie is, looks phenomenal. I mean, it's a, it's a, it's a proper remaster. master. It's a original camera negative remaster, so it does look really, really good. I mean, it's very detailed. It's quite, quite faded and desaturated at times, but I think that's the shooting style. It still does look really, really good. The audio is pretty, per-funtry, pretty basic. I mean, it's odd that it's... Or at all. Yeah, but it's up next to Neuralex anyway, so, you know, you know, so what? But there's not a lot of showy audio in this, even though there is some gunfire in it. It's very 90s. And this is, again, this is not an action movie. This is a drama all day long. And I think that the audio supports that. So don't buy it for the audio. If you like the movie, get it for the video. And, you know, and if you like the film, then, you know, that's fine.
Just, you know, if you have certain sensibilities like what I do, prepared to get annoyed, which I drink this several points. And I've seen it, you know, I know what happens. Paul F. Sagan's never seen it. Paul, give it a watch. Oh, wow. You make it, yeah, it's definitely a conversation piece of that. There's no doubt. Good old Jordan. Jordan's got a tagline for it. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I've never heard that before. There's nothing we need about that, yeah. No, no, no, no, no. I just thought like, you know, Coke or if you're trying to watch a waistline, I didn't know there was a statement there. Yeah, like, but with the wider movie, I think that's exactly what that is. I just realized it. I might be wrong. Don't you go, Defends or say he's a renaissance man. He's a, you know, he's, you know, where used to be the way things were before this. And again, the classic. Okay. So I would go with you on that if it was like Coke and new Coke was up there, right? This is Coke and like Diet Coke. This is everybody
has a diet. Yeah, but classic. That because it's not called new coke. That was the code. That, oh my God, you want to talk about a rabbit hole. That was like one of the biggest marketing mistakes ever that Coca-Cola did there. They literally changed their brand. They got rid of Coke classic. It was just called Coca-Cola. Yeah. For like decades from from their beginning. And then they came up in the 80s came out with new Coke, which tasted more like Pepsi because they were like, oh, we're losing the race. So they're like, we'll make it taste like that. And everybody went nuts because they were like, wait, I don't drink Pepsi for a reason. Why would you do that? And then they sold the way they did it as they came back and called it Coke classic. You couldn't buy anything, but Coke classic Steve. Okay. It was the same thing. It was new Coke, which pretty much went away. Or maybe they both existed at the same time for a while. They did buy the new Coke or Coke classic. And then they just phased out. They phased out new Coke or sold it to Dr. Pepper or whatever.
Over here it was only ever Coke, you know, old Coke, you know, the red the red can and then Diet Coke. Right. And then obviously laterally Coke zero and cherry Coke and all that. But other way, but the Coke classic was never a thing here. It was just, you know, just just okay. And then cherry Coke spent around a long time. That's been around a long of a new Coke. Yeah. But new Coke, like John said, faded away. And then we're left with today called classic. Actually, didn't it get did they drop classic? Yeah, I don't think it's called classic. Like any other. Yeah. I think now it's again, like back that, that's all you could get. It was Coke, or Coke classic or Diet Coke. No, it was it. So scruffy just says in the chat. It's just saying, if you, and I mean, it's important that we, you know, it's a broad church and all that. And everyone has an opinion. Yeah. So scruffy says, if you read too far into anything and not enjoy the moment, but finding a problem with everything. Now that's that's fair enough. Scruffy and I get that. And I'm always wary of, of, you know, we're quite careful on this show to to tread a, a fairly even path. But we also, though, whenever we talk about an opinion on a movie,
and that's all this is. And again, yeah, other opinions are available, even if they're wrong. The, but other opinions are available. And I get that. And, and, and, but we all come to this stuff with our own particular proclivities and our own particular, um, uh, sphere of reference. And, and my problem scruffy and the way I, the, why I react strongly to this particular chat, more than I have in the past. I've always had an issue with it. But, but why I do it more now is again, because of the work that I do, I encounter people like this. And I'm sorry, yeah, on an almost daily basis, if not, we clear. And they all say and do the same thing, which is they don't understand what they've done is wrong. He says in this movie, I'm the bad guy, you know, and I encounter regularly. And again, because of that, I, I do react strongly against it, because I do reap these people. So, yeah, again, it's all our own sphere of reference. Doesn't mean I'm right. Anyone else is wrong. It's just my view. And, you know, it's, so,
that's the reason why it's so, so, and I, and I understand that. And I'm, I'm self-aware enough to know that that's why I think this way. Well, that's, you know, at least right. Yeah, exactly. And that's, and that's the, I mean, what, what Scruffy says here is, you know, great. It's like, if you read too far into anything and not enjoy the moment, but finding a problem with everything, well, as Steve just alluded to, it's art, it's the art is a mirror of you. What you pull out of it, and that's why it's so personal is because people like going back to Daredevil and Kingpin looking at the white painting and he, it spoke to him. Everybody else like, I don't see anything in that. So, it's a mirror of, of you. So, like, as Steve said, like, he read that in a way that was influenced by his, his life and everything around him, you know, and it's like, and that's his opinion. And that's what's great about art, because it's like, that's what it's going to do. And to Scruffy's point, if you're reading into everything and seeing
all of this negativity, the hardest thing is nobody around you anymore tells you, it's you. It's not the art. It's not the world. It's like, the world's great. And it's like, whatever's negative, there's a positive right next to it. It's a balance of everything. So like, like, Scruffy said, if like, you've read too much into anything and you're seeing everything as negative, well, you can find it. That's kind of why John and I started this podcast is everything we were seeing was negative about the movies we loved were like, all right, let's bring some balance and we'll do bright side, right? And that's what it was. But that's what art is. It's going to be a mirror of yourself. So if you see something and you hate it, it's like, why are you looking at it that way? And it's like, I don't like Hitler. Well, I have my reasons why I didn't like when he walked into the room. It was emotional to me and that like, I didn't cry, but it's like, you get scared. You're like, Oh, God, here we go. And that's why. And it's like, I think my knowledge on Hitler is fairly well-founded. It's like, so, you know, but that's that's what's cool. That's what I love
about this stuff. So it's not like you can say or do anything necessarily wrong, right? And that's what makes it fun to talk about. Jordan, Jordan's just, I think also making the point that I was making on it. So it says, given defense as a certain nostalgic view of the past throughout the film, it definitely seems intentional to me that he picked up a can of coke classic in that scene. Do we think it's relevant that there are more kinds of Diet Coke to the classic coke? Do we think there's a relevance there? Is that a most people would go with that? But I'm different. So I'm going with this. Do we think more and more people would go? Yeah, I think I really do it. Now I'm going the other direction. If most people would take the Diet Coke, why is there only one coke left? Or two, there's another one to the side. You know what I mean? So it's like, you can read it however you want. Yeah, but I'm not sure. I mean, I'd have to see the whole scene to be like, if they're even, I think it's just a product placement thing, you know, in the movie. I bet you they
co-ed in read the script first. I can't imagine they'd want to be associated with this guy. Yeah, but either way, they sell them one of their parts. Yeah, no, get that. Get the Diet Coke. Look what Coke does to you. Yeah, caffeine-freefe. He said this guy's too well-wired. Yeah, exactly. Both of those have caffeine in them. Yeah. Colliderscape has it in Dolby True HD stereo. So they don't even get 4.0. So it's only an HD right now. So hopefully they'll get the hour. It's worth seeing. It is a 4K desk or experience. It is better than it's ever been. All right, can I then quickly just do the, you go right if I just do one more and then that's because these ones that have been around for a while and doing them quick is a better way of doing it. I get it less. All right, but if we do that one. What's the other one? The 31. 31. That's what you already have been there. Yeah, 30 days of night. Oh, that one. Yeah, that's up 31. It's one of the alerts.
Yeah, so this is 30 days of night. Yeah, this is the sequel 31 days. No. Okay, so this one I've been wanting to do for a while. I wouldn't have put this one in eighth of August. Okay, so a little bit new. All right, but I want to just do this one quickly because John reviewed this on the show. Not that long ago. Yeah, that's here, I think. Yeah, the blue ray wasn't it. Yeah, it's only two years now, right? Yeah, because I missed the year. True, true, true, true. So this now then is the, is a new steelbook which came out. Okay, ludicrously priced by the way. Hang your heads in shame. Those that produce it. I think it was icon in the UK that produced it. You know, it's like 39, 99 for a, you know, with, with, and just the steelbook in the movie. You know, I mean, it would be pretty much. So ludicrously priced, but it's 30 days of night and I rather like this film. And each it was shot in New Zealand. But it's supposed to be a Alaska. No, no, but you know, it's still spoke to me. It's why I recognize the snow. It's a new Zealand. It's supposed to be a last. Like a last. It is a last. Yeah, yeah, the farm.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, pretty far north. That's how you get the 30 days. That's night. Yeah, exactly. But it was shot in New Zealand. There you go. There's a lot of New Zealand. I always picture that as warm, but I guess because it's old. Yeah, no, yeah, there were mountains. There's five from the equator. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. There are mountainous and snowy parts for sure. Okay, so, and there's a thing called special effects. Anyway, I'll tell you about those later. So, I've been in cheeky DJ and I apologize. Yeah, let's go. So this is the steelbook. So it is a remaster. It's an original camera and negative remaster of the movie. But it's so 4K, you HD, HDR, all that. But unfortunately, only DTS HD, Master Audio 5.1, I was hoping for an at-moss mix, but no. Now, John, you enjoyed this, didn't you? You'd like this when you reviewed it. I enjoyed the movie, but now I'm trying to remember, I think I had an issue with the audio being piercingly loud. Okay. Yeah, I'll show. Well,
this fixes that. Is that what I say? I'm trying to remember, but I think there were scenes in this where they kind of squeal or how, you know, they do, yeah, they sort of, they were like very piercing. So I'm curious if this is similar. Yeah, although this is, the audio is much more balanced in this. So the video, so the movie's, you know, great fun. I mean, it is a small town in Alaska or somewhere where, you know, wind has come in, you get basically a whole month of darkness. And of course, that's rather useful if you happen to be a vampire. And so wouldn't you know it, along come a little group of vampires. This is based by the way, the graphic novel, as I understand it. So along come a group of vampires and 30 days of night, so they've got a month as far as they know to essentially rip the locals apart. And essentially, that's what happens. And you've got the plucky sheriff played there by Josh Hartnett, not that you know it from that picture. I think that that, yeah, kept trying to think it's terrible. Who is the actor in that movie? I don't recognize him. Yeah,
quite. For Josh Hartnett, it's had a very bad night on that in that picture. It's not a good look. And the only person done more dirty than him in that is poor old Melissa George there next to you, you know, that could be a man. Any relation? Not as far as I know. He's an Aussie. So not that I've been, you know, kind of that on a keyway. Might have talked it anyway. So, so that's the story and it's gory and it's graphic and it's a lot of fun. And again, you know it's in New Zealand because a load of key reactors pop up in this. And it is a fun story, but it's extremely gory. You know, you're only going to really want to see this if you don't mind an axe to the throat, you know, that kind of thing and you do see it. So the video now, this has always been quite an ugly movie. And I talk about grain levels, these funny that we were talking about that earlier. It when it starts off, it's incredibly grainy. And I mean, that's intentional. They're trying to, you know, start a mood of a bit of a kind of a 70s throwback exploitation type B movie.
But it is obtrusive initially. And it is an ugly movie for most of its runtime. That it seems to improve as it goes on, but it's kind of drab and it's and it is murky and it's grainy as I say. And so I that it does affect some of the 4k. It's not pristine. It's not incredible. And you're not going to pull this out to demo this, even if you were trying to show someone because they love this movie. You're not going to pull this movie out to demo your system, either video or audio. But it is better than it's ever been. There is detail. The black levels are okay. It's just not, it's not what we've come to expect from really good 4k disk is what I would say. The audio is balanced. John, I never I never noticed any particular issues with it, you know, getting really loud and then low. It sounded okay. Nothing to write home about. There are, you know, there's storms going on throughout it. There are distant squeals and screams and stuff you can hear, which sound quite good in the in the soundscape. But there's not, I mean, even now I'm thinking
back to this and I'm thinking, it's I'm struggling to think of a particular demo sequence in the whole movie and I'm not really coming up with anything. And it was, you know, it was literally a month ago today that I put it in. So is it the best it's been? Yes, is it the best it sounds? Yes. But this is not one to rush out and buy. And by the way, I would not go and spend that. Yeah, because it's $72 on Amazon. Yeah, it's crazy. That's crazy. I don't like the movie that much. I like it. Don't do it. Yeah, don't make it that much. Yeah, don't do that. Don't do that. Yeah, it just just wait for the wait for the the drop in price or the standard edition. Yeah, I wouldn't recommend that even if this is one of your favorite films, I would not say spend the ridiculous amount of money they're asking for the 4k disk. I mean, I'm glad I did it because I liked the movie, but I absolutely get that it's not necessary. You know, having seen it, I could and should have waited. So, you know, but there it is. Glad I've done it. And, you know, it's in action. And, you know, there it is. So there we go. What year was it? It was from
all four, all seven. Two thousand and something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a second one that came up. It's out of the turn. Yeah, 30 days of night, dark days. I've never seen that. I'm in fact, until I'm never seen it. Can you get darker than 30 days of? Okay. Yeah, I don't, I mean, I, yeah, I just, yeah, I didn't even know there was one. And so you just said that and I looked it up on a TV. I didn't even. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Two thousand. I looked it up on kaleidoscope and they both come up. You put in 30 days of tape that. Well, actually, Jillian Anderson comes up first for her 30 days of lust exercise video. Yeah, 30 days of 30 days to rock hard abs or something. Oh, something. Oh, boy. Should we go back to the desk one more time? Yeah, there we go. That's a wrap, folks. We'll see you next week. I get to. Yeah, I actually have
one more experience from the week. And so we obviously went to Syria, came home. The next more we landed Thursday night around we got back to back home around 2 30 in the morning. And then get up right to the hotel so that I could for the first time experience the, yeah, we go. And this is me with the Apple Vision Pro. I didn't know you had time to go skiing. Yeah, exactly. It's so funny. It's like I couldn't see him at all. Like Paul sitting as Paul's taking these pictures and I couldn't see him at all. And it's like, just sitting there looking like a donkey. And he even said in the middle of it, he's like, I just took some pictures. I go, Oh, I expected to. I look stupid. Notes is John. He's on the couch. Yeah.
I don't know what he's grabbing for. But well, that's how you have to move things on the screen. Always. Yeah. Yeah. You boys like do this and you have to move stuff. But you can have your hand have your hands down like here on your on your legs. And I was like, you just look at the icon. Like if you go on to your phone or you go on to your MacBook or whatever, all the icons are there. You just look at it and it the camera reads your eyes and it highlights the icon and you just do this with your fingers. But your fingers can be anywhere. But if you want to move the screen, you can you're doing stuff like this. You're actually moving around. So that's why I was like, I was doing that. And so we did the demos. He gave me all the demos and it is fantastic. John, I told you a little bit about it already about the baseball game and stuff. So you can go with it. And it's you're literally right there at like the top step of the dugout and you look around. And it's like, I look over to this side and I could see one of the red socks in the batting circle
on deck circle. Right. And he's just swinging it and warming up and everything stretch and I was like, it's so no grain, Steve. No, I mean, it is a hyper real it's like you're there. It's scary. The only thing that was weird is the audio for that. It's like the game audio is great. But they don't have they have their own play by play, which makes it sound video game-ish. Only because they're not video game-ish, but it's like it's not it's not computerized. It's just not the audio it's not a national audio broadcast that you would know. And it's not your local, which you'd know. So anything outside of that feels like a video game. As a matter of fact, back with the NHL video games, you could get the guy that did the NHL video game like the audio for that actually was I think he called Detroit or Philly or something like that. So when you'd hear the Philly games, it sounded like the video game to you because that was his voice. But anyways, so he, you know, I did the dinosaur
thing. We're back at time and they come out to you. He's like, put your finger out and a little dinosaur comes out. And I was like, it's crazy. Oh, it bought a fly lands on it. He could call the dinosaur over. You step into the world. It's crazy, crazy, immersive. Watching a movie, it's like you go to cinema and it looks like the carpet of a movie theater, like just giant. Steve, you think our glasses are immersive. This is insane. It's like you can make the screen so big that it's too big. So you have to pull it back because you're like, okay, that's big enough. It's like, and you could sit in the balcony, you could sit in the front row, you could, it's really, really cool. I can see why Paul so hyped about it. And definitely if you travel, like Paul does and you're in a hotel, it's definitely a better option. And to me, like I said, to Paul, I go, just look at this picture here. What I said, doing my go, you get what you pay for.
And he's like, yeah, and he was talking about like a $3,500 price tag. I was like, a way more immersive. I go, yeah, but you're also paying a price on how stupid you look. But it's worth it. It's like, you know what I mean? Like, I agree with you. I'm there's no way. I'm on a bus like this because I'll tell you right now. And this is how much, how great a week. And we'll talk about that next week on take over Tuesday, Paul. And I, I'm literally sitting here and Paul appreciate this. That's it's so if you have claustrophobia, you're probably not going to like these because even though it's immersive, I, I, this is after spending five days every waking moment with Paul pretty much, you know, you're not sleeping. We're at CDA. We're doing something, right? I trust Paul. But in this, I'm like, you could chop my head off right now. And I wouldn't even know you learn because you can't see the world outside you. And you're so immersed in that. And then all of a sudden you go, wait a minute, where am I? Like, I'm in a hotel. It is
kind of scary like that. Even in your own home, you got, because you're so immersed, you put your ear buds in and you're sitting in your own living room. If somebody rings the bell, you're not going to hear it. You're just going to be there. If somebody comes in the house, you're going to be like so you, whereas somebody walks into your theater, you're going to know it. I think you're, you're, I've been in my theater and people have been ringing the bell or whatever's going on. You don't hear it because it's all loud. But at least you're not like closing into this to yourself. Nobody could touch you. You'd be sitting there and all of a sudden somebody goes, hi, you'd be like, oh, look. But that's that that is different to the glass you then because of course, with the transparency mode on that, as I said to you when I was on the bus, well, this has to keep an eye on everybody, but also, you know, watch it quite happily, but also, I could see everyone around me and I know what's going on. Right. And I'm, but I'm still, you know, invested and, and, and, but you could do that with these two. You could do, you could watch a home theater movie and like Paul was saying, if you could watch the movie on the screen, you could
be in your theater, put that screen in your theater and we're trying to figure a way that to get the audio. And I know Nelson did it with the glasses. So I'm sure you could do it with these. If you could do that, it blows away what we have in our theaters for an image. It would, because it's just and it could be bigger and you could do the transparency mode where it would put it because I did that in the hotel. Like I could take it, size the screen and make it look like it's a display up on the wall in the in the hotel. So you can't do that, but when you do the immersive stuff like be in a movie theater, you're in the movie theater and it's weird. It's very weird. Yeah, but it's awesome. It is awesome. Yeah, it's cool. I mean, I'd like to say it's, it's all about use cases in it. And for me, yeah, that's not how I use the glasses. I use the glasses in the car. If I've got time to weigh outside of police station at court, if I've got a bit of waiting time, so I'd talk to you. Yeah. Yeah. You know, then I then that's fine, but I, I already feel on occasions a little conscious, even with the glasses and they look like sunglasses,
it would that way ahead, I'd feel a complete burr. I couldn't take those out in public anywhere. Now I would have to wear them. You know, when they came out, remember seeing those videos, these idiots, yeah, I mean, it's just not only would it be not good from a personal safety point of view, because someone just grabbed those and run and then you've lost your three and a half grand, you know, headset, but I would feel a complete idiot. And I mean, respectfully, I'm not not criticizing, but I'd feel a complete idiot sat in public with that. And I'm not expecting over here. I would expect someone to take the Mickey, you know, I really would change for you if they became as widely used as like an air pod or it felt like if every other person you encountered was using these in public, would you still feel the same way about them? But well, no, but then that was that ever going to happen. I mean, for three or a half, no, it's not because the product failed, but yeah, if it hadn't failed, like if it was a successful product, took off like Apple wanted it
to take off, they continued development. And the next model was $2,500 in better and everybody started buying them. Would you feel a self-conscious then? Because yeah, I've been on the odd man out. No, we're quite. I mean, but that's that's that's a societal thing, isn't it? If that change that way, if everyone decided tomorrow, we're not going to close anymore, it's going to be fine. Okay, I'll walk down the road on natural, right? But that doesn't, but it doesn't mean that I'd be comfortable doing it now. But I say, you're desk. No, you're well, I'm not going to count down. I'm not pounding down, guys. I'm not pounding down. But it just, so I, and so I, that's my problem with them. That's where my use case would not allow me to spend $3,500 or pounds on those. Because I wouldn't use them. And I wouldn't want to use them at home because I'd feel anti-social. And I wouldn't use them then out and about. That's the biggest feeling of a detail. And so because of that, I think where is the glasses that, you know, the X-rayles, the
the virtual ones that they, and I've got can be worn and you can still see all around you. You feel part of something. People can see you. You could see them. And I just can't with these two. Like I said, yeah, yeah, yeah, but it's all projected in there. So like, yeah, you could sit in your living room and like, you could have the entire setup. Like, you've been looking at John's setup, for instance, in your living room. And like, if John had these on, and you have them in not in immersive mode, just the images on the screen on the, on the wall. And if Lydia walks by, John would just be like, he could see her and you turn your head and it stays up. Hi, but this is what you look like when you talk to her. You know, she can't see your eyes. It's that's a projected image of your eyes on the screen. But you can do that. But it's still, it's just, you know, it's, it is. It's more than worth it for some other stuff. Like Paul uses it for editing, which I found. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Which I could definitely put this on here.
And then instead of having these screens do my editing and move stuff, it would, and I could see what you get used to it. It would be more productive than than this setup, you know, more reliable, more productive. Whereas for me, it would only be for movies. It would only be stuff. And again, only on the move, because if I'm at home, I want it in my home theater. If I'm, if I'm out at about, I don't want to look like an idiot and I want to be safe. And I don't want to worry about some of the glasses. But okay. Well, I quite indeed. I get, I get, I understand that and I get, again, self aware glasses that you need help, not hindered. That's true. That's true. What you said, yeah, what you said, yeah, yeah. But I couldn't, I wouldn't, I wouldn't, I wouldn't want to be sat in my car outside of a police station with that on my head. I would just, because people would just be like, what are you doing? You know, in England as well. In the UK generally, they'll be quite happy to, you know, take the Mickey. And, you know, I really don't want that. As I said, I'd have felt conscious sometimes even with the, you know, with the X-rayals on, but nowhere near as
much as I would with these, there was no way I'd walk down the road with these on those on. But I have walked down the road with the X-rayals on, watching a show in the corner of the glasses as I go. Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, but, but, you know, cool. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I mean, it should be awesome. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You're welcome, Paul. By the way, you know, come on over. Yeah. Happy time. The demo works for me. Was it heavy, Deach? By the way, uh, they are, they're a little bulky. They're a little heavy. I could see if you had it on for a couple hours, you'd be like, okay, it'd be nice to get that off. It's not, uh, it is fitted to you. These were fitted for him. So I had to kind of squish them in and tighten it a bit because it's not just about like the circumference of your head, which you can change. You know, you can tighten, but it's the distance like the as far away as like the glasses will stick. And like, as soon as I put them on, it said like your eyes are too far away. So I had a kind of like tight knit to bring the, uh, edges into my face. They was literally like hanging there. So, but they,
I mean, they were comfortable, but they are bulky. They are bulky for sure. And the only, and it's all Bluetooth. So like they're only connected that wire goes to the battery. So if we were saying like if you can connect Bluetooth to your Apple TV, you could sit in your theater and Bluetooth from the Apple TV into these things if it's possible. And I'm sure it is. And experience your like you could watch the Mandalorian in 3D in, you know, which I did, why I think that's the one that I demoed or something. I did know it all was super Mario, maybe. I demoed a 3D and it looks awesome. But it's, I mean, and have your actual theater play the audio, it'd be amazing. It would, it would sound awesome. And look cool too. Yeah. Nice. Well, well, I shall book you in Paul for your trip to the UK, man. We'll book you in for your demo. Am I? Well, he can come and show me. Um, and then, and then you need to pop to Texas because
John's got some bang movies he wants to see on them. Yeah. So the reason why I'd buy him to be honest with you. And again, if Lydia's walking around the room, she won't need to. Yeah. Yeah, super Mario Lydia. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. Watch those while on the moon. All right. That should do it for this week. Great. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And getting a little late as well. Yeah. Yeah. That's all right. That's all right. Yeah. So it's funny talking about this. We're going to talk, talk more, uh, more about November as, as we're getting closer and closer. That's one of the reasons we're going to talk a lot about it with the CDA trip. That was the, the prize from last year that Paul won. So, you know, hoping to do it, hoping to do all the prizes. Again, this year, we'll see, um, looking to raise money from November. But, uh, but yeah. So more on that to come, we're going to build up to it's only, oh, November this year or our 25
hour show is on Halloween this year. Oh, we set the clocks back apparently the first Sunday, because 2 a.m. First Sunday morning in November. And that would be November first. So I get up on Saturday morning, 6 a.m. on Halloween and go right to Sunday. So I've already mentioned it to people at CDA that'll be on the show and stuff. And I'm like, I got a good costume. So people are going to be probably dressing up and everything. So we'll have a little bit of fun there with that too. Come here. Yep. Oh, good. You'll participate this. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So that will do it. One other thing as I thank everybody in the chat. Um, thank everybody. I think the patrons, all would like to thank the patrons and he's going, he is a patron, but that's what enables this stuff to happen. Again, we'll talk more about that next week. So thank you to all the patrons. I really, really appreciate it. And, uh, you know, the more we make, the more we can support the show
and support prizes like that. So, um, but the chat, I had a conversation, a little quick conversation this week with, uh, one of our regulars in the chat. I'll leave this name out of it. So now, you know, it's not Rachel, because I said he, uh, or Beth, and, but yeah. So somebody in that, somebody hit me up this week about like, maybe they're speaking a little too much. And I'm like, that's not a thing. It's not. It's like, you can speak as much as you want. We love it all. We necessarily, three of us don't necessarily get to read it all. But if you guys want to have conversations and you're, there's no such thing as speaking too much in the chat because that's the point. It's not like, it's not like you have the stage and nobody else can speak, because yours comes in and the next one and the next one. And so just speak away, you know, say whatever you want to say in the chat, home theater related, of course, and you guys have been, I don't have to specify because you guys been great with that. But don't feel shy about it. Don't feel like you're doing, you're talking too much or talking because we love that. That's
where the comments come from that we're like, Oh, yeah, look at that. And such and such said this. And, and a lot of people we know from the numbers, a lot of people aren't in the chat. So they might be people might be reading you and not listening to us. So they might do it just to read who the regulars are. You know, I've been in chats on other shows where you have a conversation with somebody and it's other people talking. Doesn't distract me from the conversation that I'd be having with somebody there. So, um, the rules and the times don't feel bad about saying too much because it's not that kind of format that chat isn't like that. One is home theater related and everybody's having a good time. It's like, yeah, it doesn't, it doesn't even have to be that as long as it's polite and it's respectful. And it, and that's all that really matters, isn't it? Otherwise, chat about what you like. But, you know, I did be really related, but it doesn't, yeah, but you know, we're not, it's not precluding it. But yeah, the clues in the title chat, it's not called cool. Yeah. Like, you know, so, you know, absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. So I thought
that was it and I don't want anybody to feel bad like saying too much. Like, like, well, we started this. We're worried there wouldn't be enough. There's nobody there. Like, hello, hello, where did everybody go? So, all right, that will do it for this week. Look for next week's take over Tuesday. Hopefully Paul and I will get to that this week. And I think I might be on each key guys next week too. Park to Aras. So we'll see about that. Talking about CD and stuff. So check that out. But other than that, until next time, you know what you got to do. Go push play. What he said. Hey Fred. This has been a Hey Fred production with theme music by Jeff Bernhardt and ThroneVault
productions. You
