You're listening to the Dana N. Parks podcast on K M B Z. And a good Wednesday afternoon. It's home. A story here from NBC News. Long time, we'll affort an announcer Jim Thornton has been suspended from the show. No. And his role will be recast. That doesn't sound like a, that doesn't sound like a suspension. What did he do? Where do I apply? Can they put it in a puzzle so I can solve it? Sony pictures confirming in a statement to NBC News that Thornton will not be involved with the show as the studio investigates allegations against him. The studio said, and I quote, we have recently been made aware of allegations concerning Jim Thornton. He has been suspended from Wheel of Fortune and we are recasting while we conduct a thorough investigation. What how long has he been there? He's been there since 2010. TMZ was first report, Thornton's suspension. The outlet also reported that the allegations involved an incident between him and an American Airlines passenger on a flight back in May.

Do you know who I am? I know, sir. Nobody does. I was just going to say, Ryan, can I have a W for Weiner? Cause I guarantee you that has something to do with this on a plane? Scott, there have been yes. Okay. I couldn't be more thrilled. I can't stand. I love Wheel of Fortune. I can't stand Jim Thornton. You want to say something to Jim, correct? Yes. Jim actually has the ideal job, at least in my mind, to be a game show announcer is like a dream job for me. You know, I love what probably like you. You wanted to do something like that since you were little like I did, right? Actually, I started out wanting to be a game show host. What's wrong with being the host? Yeah. A game show host is great, but I don't like being on camera. I like being in my little box and being the guy behind the microphone. So let's hear you do your own. Okay. Jim Thornton's attorney tells TMC that the announcer did not engage in any illegal conduct

was not arrested and has not been charged with a crime. However, he says law enforcement did speak with him, but they quote immediately determined that no wrongdoing had occurred and told my client he was free to go. That could be the case. If that is the case, why are they looking for his replacement? Well, at least a temporary replacement probably because he acted. My guess would be, I have no way to prove this at all. Somebody probably recognized him on the plane and he was a he was a complete jerk. He is on camera most nights. No, no, no, wait a minute. This is not you were a jerk on the plane. No way. He suspended and we are looking for a replacement. temporary one. Yeah, at least until we conclude our investigation. I can't stand him. He drives me crazy. He's what we call this business a puke. And oh, that's exactly everybody. And he violates a rule that I have in broadcasting where he shortens words. You ready to go on vacate, guys?

So this is not something that happens a lot, but it does happen. I heard it a couple nights ago and about fell out of my chair screaming at my TV. Ryan Seacrest was saying, hey, Jim, you can bring and I think Ryan Seacrest is a great job. Can you can you give us details about this trip? You bet right, right? We're sending a great person on a vacate to feed you. There's more this afternoon. We have learned, quoting here from DMZ, that the alleged incident arose while Thornton was on a commercial flight back in May and a passenger complained to a flight attendant about him. So they are in the air. The passenger seated next to him, complained to a flight attendant, sources with direct knowledge tell us the pilot called ahead to have law enforcement meet with him when they arrived at the gate. We are told that officers questioned Thornton who was wearing a wheel of fortune jacket at the time.

Okay. American Airlines says on May 14th, flight 1276 was met by law enforcement upon arrival following concerns reported by a customer on board. The pilot does not call ahead. I agree. For police to meet you at the gate, because you're being a jerk. Also, I'm going to be honest, wear in the wheel jacket on a commercial flight, fill in the blank. What does that mean? Come on. I want to be more popular than I am. You want people to ask why I mean, come on. So not only is the conduct questionable, whatever it was, but he is wearing company logoed merchandise. He's representing the show. Which means he's representing the show. He's fired. If this had just been, he was like, can I have your number? And he was not wearing a wheel jacket. We wouldn't even be talking about this. The text line is on fire. Let me just read a couple of them for you.

Hey, Dana, did Jim get the RSTL and E jacked from the show? Okay, that's very good. Yeah. Jim is definitely in jeopardy. Get out. And you most have used a vowel language. He didn't mind his peace and cues. Get out. He used vowel language. Seriously, where do I sign up? I'm being serious. Let's not make this about Jim. How bad does your behavior have to be? Where a flight attendant is called and that happens from time to time. Like, look, can I please change seats? This guy's drooling on me and easily, whatever. But for the pilot to call ahead for authorities, when and how do they not have the the you'd have to be pretty disrupter. The pilot audio already from that. You would think the pilot audio would exist where they're saying, Hey, we're approaching our landing and we are going to need law enforcement to meet us for whatever this was. And it wasn't a guy being a jerk. Jesse Regis sent us a text. Is

it okay for me to wear my navy jacket on a plane? I'm assuming it would not be considered uniform. You are now retired. Yeah. It's perfectly fine. So long as it's not uniform, as long as you don't do something disruptive, you are technically, I guess, Jesse. It's a good question. Representing your old career, your former employer. Now, could they do anything to you? But to your point, this was a current employer that is correct. That pays him probably pretty darn well. You could go honestly making a fool of yourself, Scott, all over town. I really do think in certain circumstances you could you go making a fool of yourself all around town wearing a K&B Z shirt. Then the company's going to be like, could we please reel it in? Of course. And that's exactly what this is. And here's the other deal. I find it hard to believe that if this was some misunderstanding, number one, police would not have been called. Number two, you have to wonder in a case like this,

was there something else? You know, we're just sidelining him period, which means they know what happened. And whatever it is is enough for the company to say you're off there. Well, I mean, it was obviously not enough that it broke the law, but you don't have to break the law to be suspended from your job. Correct. You know, if I'm, let me give you an example, man, go ahead, please. I don't know if it is technically against the law to watch inappropriate content on your laptop while seated next to a young woman, but we have heard of that so many times. And women have asked flight attendants. I want to be moved. He's watching cinematics next to me, right? That's not, I don't know that that's necessarily against the law. But if you're wearing your company merchandise and a complaint is made and and this is a verifiable offense, I think a lot of people would be fired for that. I mean, because it's so weird. There is a scene. It's not porn, but it was an

R rated movie. There was a scene in a star is born with Lady Gaga where she stands up in the tub. And you see all of it, all of it. But I would not have a, if someone was watching that movie next to me, I would not have a problem with that. You wouldn't. I really wouldn't. And I don't think you would get suspended and sidelineed and they're looking for a replacement if you're watching a movie that has nudity in it. Look, this happened at a bank of elevators. I've told this story before. Johnny was trying to go to work at 530 in the morning. He's at a bank of elevators and he looks down when we lived in the lofts. And he looks down and the gym is right below the bank of elevators. And there was a man on the treadmill and he goes, you are not going to believe this. It was a full on. He had like a iPad or whatever. He goes, he was full on watching graphic sexual material. And I said, the first thing I said, well, how do you know? We just wasn't watching a movie. And there was like a love scene in the movie. And Johnny goes, you know it when you see it. And

that's not what he was watching. That's true. I used to see it all the time at the gym. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Why are working out? I mean, I had to walk past the treadmills to get from the stretching area to the weightlifting area. No. All the time. Why? And it was like iPads and laptops. It wasn't like they were watching it on their phone. I like it. I want to watch with me weirdos. I have never seen porn on somebody's iPad or whatever at the gym. Never once. Really? That's so weird. Okay. I wish I had the nerve. If I was walking by somebody like at on a treadmill, I wish I had the nerve to be like, what is wrong? I would say what is wrong with you? I would just say I'm curious. What is wrong with you? It would be more embarrassing if you just walked by and said to them, I've seen that one. It's good.

Then they know you're what you have seen what they are watching. Oh, Jody and Steve, huh? They know that you're seeing it. This guy at where we lived was his back was to the bank of windows and the content was facing the bank of gigantic windows in the morning when everyone's leaving for work. Doesn't care. Couldn't care less. Why? That is so weird. Because we probably thought he was alone sending an invite out into the ether. Maybe. Oh, my God. That's so gross. Maybe I like to exercise. And I like to. Well, you know, nothing attracts the ladies or as I learned yesterday, the baddies. Please do not. Nothing attracts the baddies like watching porn while you're on an elliptical machine. They love that turns them on. It's true. 913 586 777 985 866 7 You should go up to them when they're watching porn. This texture says it's a spoiler alert. Do you

want to know how it ends? 913 586 777 985 Rowe quick Sam. You said 2 91 is back open. It appears. There is no indication that there are any lane shut down on the scout camera network. Something went down this morning where people ended up in the hospital after either one car was shooting into another car or vice versa. Like back and forth. Did you see the headline over the weekend there? There was a fatal road rage incident in Kansas city somewhere in the Kansas city or I think it was in Kansas city. That is the sixth fatal road rage incident in Kansas city metropolitan this year alone. I drove by right after it happened. It was at the gas station on a hundred and third and more. Oh, I saw that over the weekend. This one happened

near Missouri 291 in Shipman Road. 1050 in the morning. Three suspects wearing dark clothing were reportedly seen shooting into another vehicle that was stopped at that intersection. They are looking for a dark gray Ford F-150 with a vanity license plate from California. Truck was last seen making a U-turn on the northbound 291. Three other cars were struck by gunfire. Three other car just 11 a.m. Three car struck by gunfire and then in the victim's car one injured by the shot and one injured by shrapnel. Did you see how they identified the vehicle? No, please tell me. Let me guess. Floch cameras. Yep. Now investigators believe the suspects and the victim knew each other. That does not make this okay. Three other cars were shot at and if we have such a problem with road rage shootings in this town,

which I believe that we do, that's why I am I am 10 and 2 eyes forward. I ain't nothing. I'm not even making eye contact with people in this town because you're all crazy. You're all crazy and you just have to assume that the crazy people have guns and they're going to shoot you. What about me? Oh, I would definitely assume you were crazy. Oh, why? If it is such a problem in this town and it is, why are the penalties not so much harsure? Why is it not attempted murder when someone? It is. No, it is never charged like that. I'm saying it is though. Like if I was in one of the three cars, three additional cars were struck by gunfire. One of those three cars that were struck just because you didn't happen to shoot me or God forbid my children in the backseat, to me does not make you any less culpable of trying to kill me. I would make the argument now whether a jury would buy it or not. I don't know, but I would make the argument that if you shoot a gun at someone and it is not self-defense,

that is attempted murder. Why don't we call it that way? If you miss. Like spraying bullets into a house and occupied house, that always ends up being aggravated assault and it makes me so mad. It should be attempted murder. You're not shooting the gun into the house for any other reason than to take life and scare the crap out of everybody else in that house that you're not trying to kill. I don't know, Dana. I don't know. Where do we put them all? If we do give them 15, 20 years for attempted? I don't care. By the way, Missouri does not have a specific criminal charge for attempted murder. Instead, prosecutors charge these out as assault in the first degree. Okay. A mob of 500, by the way, if police say that they knew each other, I hope somebody in the car that took the bullets is doing the talking as to who they are. If you knew them, give us some

names. What's a personalized California license plate? If it's not stolen, it's not going to be hard to figure out who that is. A mob of 500 out of control teens took over a Colorado shopping complex on Sunday afternoon erupting into fights and damaging property, 500 teenagers. The unruly crowd, a majority of whom were between the ages of 14 and 17, overran the Hoffman Heights Shopping Center in Aurora, Colorado, and around one 30 Sunday afternoon. The teens had gathered for an unpermitted sporting event, unpermitted sporting event, before moving toward the shopping plaza, which houses a King Super supermarket and a Burger King. More than 70 officers from the police department were called to the scene to attempt to disperse the unlawful assembly of children. That's how they worded it, not me. Instead of leaving the crowd fled into nearby businesses. Really, of course, this is the New York Post, a whoppingly large group with two Burger King,

where they were packed, shoulder to shoulder, and began singing and dancing on the tables inside the dining room. More customers than they've had in 10 years. One of the tables collapsed as the teens were jumping up and down, sending a team to the ground, before the crowd continued their ear piercing performance. Other misfits tracked across the parking lot into the grocery store, where they began vandalizing merchandise and raced through the aisles to evade store workers. One identified teen held a table, saying he got it for my mom. Okay. Okay. No arrests were made. No arrests were made. Yeah, there were 70 police officers there, 500 people. Maybe they said to the kids, that's okay, you can have it your way. Were they were they loving it? Wrong Burger King. I don't care. It was frosty in there.

The Federal Trade Commission and 22 states this week have sued Amazon. You wonder why I hate that company? Over allegations that the e-commerce giant secretly inflated prices in its online search advertising auctions, potentially costing customers tens of billions of dollars because Amazon doesn't make enough. The lawsuit alleges that the undisclosed surcharges were applied for seven years, increasing the prices at more than 1 million Amazon brands and sellers were required to pay to advertise on its platform. Neither of the two states we are in is in the lawsuit. They're not part of the 22 states yet. Yeah. The lawsuit centers on so-called second price auctions, the industry standard for digital ad deals, Amazon informed businesses that they would pay only one cent more than the second place bidder for an advertising keyword, but the lawsuit alleges that the retailer charged a winners their own price about 80%

of the time. And that raised the cost according to the FTC. Tiger Woods is going to have to find a driver. We will update you on that story on the Data and Parks program. And I think a lot of people are rolling their eyes about this. He's going to have to figure out how to get around for a pretty significant amount of time. The judge in the case ordered what I read was a very stern warning. Were you trying to make a pun when you said Tiger Woods is going to have to find a driver? No. He actually is going to have to find or a bicycle. And we'll tell you what that is when we come back. And do you think it is fair? And do you think other people who don't have super, super famous names would find themselves in this situation after this many infractions? We'll talk about it straight ahead. Sam is just informing me we have an update in the Lindsay Clancy

trial. Sam, what is it? The jury has gone home for the day. Oh, again, this room is still at it. I mean, how many hours do you want to sit in a room and yell at the same people about the same stuff over and over again? Nobody changes their mind. 28 hours. So now they're at what, 31, essentially, because they came out and said they were deadlocked again at what, one o'clock, two o'clock. I was in the one o'clock hour. It was right before the show started actually, but they were deadlocked for a second time. And the judge sent them back in. Tiger Woods was suspended from driving for five years and handed a small fine as he agreed to a plea deal this morning over his latest role over crash, the four time PGA championship winner pleaded guilty to reckless driving, not DUI, and refusal to submit to a lawful test in a deal that saw prosecutors agreeing to drop DUI charges from the crash that occurred in March. Woods,

who is 50 look grim faced, but said nothing as he entered the court alongside his girlfriend Vanessa Trump. Yes, the ex-wife of Don Jr. In court, he spoke only to confirm that he had read the deal. Woods was fined $1,000 suspended from driving for five years on each charge. It was warned he could go to jail if he drove on his suspended license. I'm looking for the quote from the judge here because it. So keep in mind this last time, he blew 0.00. His breathalyzer was clean. To pain pills were found in his pocket by authorities and he refused the urine test and did show signs of some impairment, right? Yes. Oh, he looked absolutely obliterated sitting in the back seat of that cop. Remember, they had him do the tap your fist on top of each other and he failed. Well, that being said, if you said to me, do the hand jive, they wanted him to do this and

this. I'm not saying he wasn't blitzed on pills. I'm not, but I found that to be a very odd motor test. Anybody who sober can do it. Yeah. You can do it right now. I would make it funny and like do the thumbs. Well, they wouldn't laugh. You're sober. It's very easy. But when you're drunk or whatever he was on and let's be honest, I mean, he refused the urine test because he knew what they would find. Well, it was in his system. Yeah. And it wasn't going to be good. The judge said, if you drive for any reason during the five year license suspension, you will go immediately back to jail. No exceptions. And said, quote, the five year driving ban is for the safety of the public. Good. To answer your question from before the break about

the number of infractions because he is Tiger Woods, he has only technically had one other infraction. And since he didn't get a DUI on this one, he's technically only had one infraction. What was that? It was the one time that he got pulled over. I think it was in California. Or sorry, he didn't get pulled over. He pulled himself over. He was a sleep of the wheel. That's right. And the police pulled up next to him. Interesting fact, because I don't know if he can ride a bicycle, if he can golf carts are off limits. Well, I don't think he's he's strapped for cash. He can find somebody to drive him around, right? He is not allowed. I'm just as part of this punishment. Yeah. He is not allowed to drive a golf cart. Good. He has proven time and time again. He cannot be trusted behind the wheel of a vehicle. Period. Whether it's that when he damn near tours

leg off, speeding around that corner, wherever that was, I can't remember. Cory Pines. Cory Pines. I had totally forgotten about the past out behind the wheel of the car thing. That's his only actual DUI conviction. Okay. I mean, I know everybody loves Tiger Woods. He needs help. There's something not right. Well, he went away. He went to Europe for treatment. Did he not? I'm not that was for sex addiction. No, no, no, no, no, this last time he went overseas for treatment. Okay. I hope it sticks. I just hope it sticks. Me too. Me too. A theory and visibly emotional Ariana Grande bit a temporary farewell to her fans as her 41 show eternal sunshine tour concluded in London last night, kickstarting her planned withdrawal from public life, addressing the audience in London's famed O2 arena. The pop singer said she was grateful to her fans for making her show quote, so special said Grande. This has been one of the most beautiful

extraordinary experiences experiences of my life. I just wanted to express my gratitude without sobbing completely. I will cherish this experience always. If you if you have missed the news, she does not look well. She's horribly thin and she too. She needs help like Tiger Woods needs help. All right. Did you hear of all the electronic things we don't need spying us in our lives? This seems ridiculous. You can now buy, Scott, a $500 toothbrush. Oh, that includes Wi-Fi and an AI powered camera. Why do you need that? I was going to ask you the exact same thing. We already know everything listens to us. It's it's been happening to me more really in the last two weeks in a very

creepy way, Scott. Tell me more. Sometimes just things we talk about on the air. Sometimes someone will say something to me in passing and then boom, there's the ad for the thing. And we're just slowly like frog in a boiling pot of water just accepting that and getting used to it. But how do we know that for a while? I think it was such a slow drip. And now we've all like now it's just part of our lives and no one's really questioning it. You can blame me. I ruined you. It's okay. Why would anyone want an AI powered toothbrush? Why do we need that? And how many people brush their teeth with nothing else on? Great point, Sam. Oh, yeah. You're going to have an AI powered camera. Why? I did brush in the nude right before I came to work. That is correct. Right after I got detailed. Right after I'm just saying right after you were the one who asked how many of us do it. I got out of the shower. I was waiting to dry off completely and so I brushed my teeth. I brushed in the shower. It was unveiled in Paris yesterday. It is now available for pre-order and it is called

the Dyson camera jet. It includes gross. It includes an in mouth camera. Wi-Fi Bluetooth and a special app. Ah, they want your phone. Sure. A special app for oral hygiene guidance. Why can't you just brush your teeth like normal people do? I don't understand what AI is going to, is it going to tell you whoops you? No, it analyzes 28 images a second to find gaps in your brushing in real time. So it is going to tell you whoops you missed a spot. If it stinks or it's still dirty, do it again. Yeah, I just saved you 400 bucks. This is so gross. Dyson says they stopped short of saying this replaces flossing but says it will help anyone who's not flossing as much as you should be. Does anybody really floss every day? It gives you real time personalized feedback on your brushing technique.

Slow air. No one is going to buy this. Gyrate up in. Excuse me. Excuse me. You missed a spot. No, that is so annoying. People will buy it. Tansier questions got most people do not floss every day unless they get something stuck up there. I love my handheld water pick though. I use that thing daily. Does it listen to you? Does it bark at you when you're doing it wrong? It doesn't talk back to you. Doesn't have any cameras either. That's so gross. So you're saying you're not going to buy it. No. Well, but Dana, I mean, how many inventions have come across in the last decade? Where you're like, why would anybody do that? A watch that tells me what my heart rate is. I think Sam has one. If you said to my grandparents, I do. God rest their souls. If you said to my, especially the farmers many, many, many decades ago that someday people were going to be spending a lot of money on a camera so you can watch your birds. They would have fallen out of their chair.

There would have been like, like we do out the window right here for free. They would have laughed at the bird camera and they loved nature. And do you still use your bird camera? Yes. You still watch it. I don't watch it as often as I did in the beginning because the notifications are constant. And so they're annoying. Our yard is very popular when we put bird food out. Yeah. They're freeloaders. Yeah. It's takes up, you know, bubbling, bubbling. I'd be doing nothing, but staring at the bed. You turn the notification off then. I turned the noise off. It would drive me crazy. So now you have to proactively. Yes. So when you're in the mood to watch birds, you can go watch birds pull up the birds and watch the birds. So now you have a very expensive bird house. Correct Sam. Exactly. When I was trying to say last time you watch the birds. Be honest. Before you went to Mississippi, wasn't it? Yes. At least before I went to visit. It's been at least two weeks. Probably you watched probably longer than that. The insides of your very expensive bird. But it does, you know, it duplicates as a security camera too. I mean,

if you use it, if I needed to go back and look, you know, but you've turned the notifications off. But you can go back and say, let's look back. So it's it's crime fighting reactor. It's crime fighting non-bird watching right now. Yeah. That's that's what it is. On the topic of consumers welcoming the surveillance state, Meta is making some changes to their AI glasses after continued complaints about people being recorded without their knowledge. Okay. What have they done? Please tell me. We will after the break. The jury and the Clancy Trial is going home for the day. They told the judge earlier today for the second time this week that they were deadlocked. Meta announcing privacy updates to its artificial intelligence powered glasses after reports at users of the device were filming people without their consent. The glasses include an LED light that signals when filming has started.

Meta said it recently disabled the glasses cameras if the light is physically tampered with. The light previously had to be blocked before filming started to lock the recording function. Yeah. So the way that the quote unquote creeps which I this whole conversation still kind of befuddles me. They would start the recording and then block the light so that they could record you without you knowing. But their camera glasses you should just assume that they're recording you. Also, it's not illegal to record other people. No, but Sam, I don't know that everyone's what you should know their camera glasses and you'll see it. I don't think if I was like someone was filming me from 20 feet away or something. How are you supposed to know someone's filming you? I would like to know I'm being filmed. But you're not required to know. Why are we okay with the dozens of cameras that are constantly watching us all day long? But if somebody puts it on their face, we're not okay with it. They look like regular glasses. Like really? I mean, I've seen a couple in person. They're thick rimmed.

Most glasses don't have a camera lens right next to them. I can't even see it. It's the camera lens is really, really tiny. But yeah, all right. Now you can kind of see it if you look for it. Well, you can get them on Ray Bans. Oh, yeah. They're made by Ray Bans. Oh, they are made by Ray Bans. Okay. Wow. Yeah, the camera is pretty obvious now that I look at it. You're right. Why would you want it? What's the point? I've never understood it. The security guard at my old job. He loved it because rather than having to go in and pull all of the information from the camera system inside the place he was security guarding, he could just snap a picture on his glasses and upload it much quicker that way. Okay. So how do you differentiate between I want to take a picture and then I want to film? There's like a button that you can click on the glasses. I'm not sure. I didn't really

get into the weeds of how they work, but he loved them. He used them every day. They're not cheap. How much are they? The minimum is $300 that I can find. You have here's my question. Everyone has a cell phone. Everyone. Yep. So why would you need glasses that record? You have your cell phone. Because well, it's very simple. How many times have you tried to you see somebody in public and they're they're showing plumbers crack while they're looking through the aisle at Walmart or something. You want to take a picture and set it off to Sam and me and go look what I found. Right. But to take a picture with your phone, you almost have to like either be really coy or really obvious. With the glasses, you just click. Right. So then out of the gate, you are being a weirdo. Yeah. Now to be clear, they do a lot more than just record.

What do they do? I've heard they play music. Why do I want music? I can't like glasses. You can search things. They'll play music into your ears. You can answer phone calls. You can send and receive text messages. They're like the future. You know, you watch those sci-fi movies back in the day and they put the glasses on and they got a whole computer screen inside the glasses. Yeah. That's kind of what they're going for, but they don't have the technology to accomplish that. How do you send a text message with glasses? Same way that you tell your cell phone to send a text message. Oh, it would do voice to text. You say, hey, and then meta. But wouldn't, wouldn't you have to have a phone number attached to the glasses? It connects to your phone. Of course it does. Because why not? 913-586-7798.
