Boomer & Gio

About this episode

Boomer shares the backstory behind the Rimington Trophy—awarded to college football’s top center—as it hits the road to games featuring leading contenders. Meanwhile, a caller questions if the Yankees are rushing Aaron Judge back, Jerry reports on Drake Maye and AJ Brown sharing neighboring lockers, and Aaron Glenn defines what makes a successful season. Plus, Dabo Swinney snaps at a reporter following a blowout loss to LSU, and Gio weighs in on bizarre, clearly fake photos of Clay Matthews.

It's the boomer in Geo podcast from W F A N. I'm for for in Geo, Coney alive. The build forward tough studio on the fan and CBS sports network. Give us a call on the red pocket mobile fan line brought to you by your new ultimate sell carrier red pocket mobile 888 808 101 9 didn't take long for Richie and East islips bobblehead of view and South champion to be one up to now. There is a giant Dave rimmington trophy in the studio. You got to tell me what's going on here. And that by the way, that is I don't want to get in trouble like Aaron Andrews, but that's the greatest ass on a trophy that has ever been made. So what an ass on that trophy. So if you know Dave rimmington was one of my often tell stories about him, one of my first teammates in Cincinnati that took me under his wing. And he was a great offensive center at Nebraska who won both the Outland trophy, the Lamberti trophy, all American. He was an academic all American. I mean, he was amazing

back in 79 and 82. Nobody ever looked like he did playing center. Yeah. If you go back and you watch old film of him, you'll see he looked like he was a running back at center because he was off the ball so fast. And he was at the second level. And he was basically crushing defensive lineman. So back in 2000 Dave, Dave, by the way, I asked Dave to come back. He was jean at Wisconsin under Barry Alvarez when he retired. He was going to become a coach. And when Gunner was diagnosed with CF, I said, Dave, would you come back and run the foundation for me? Be the president, get this whole thing off the ground and learn about what it takes to run a non-for-profit. Yeah. So he did that. And so in 2000, I said, you know what, why isn't there a trophy honoring the best center in college football? And why don't we name it after you? I think your legacy obviously stands tall out in the state of Nebraska. It's like Jesus is walking. And it's the parting of the

Red Sea when you go to their stadium. And they love him and Lincoln. They love him in Omaha. He's from South Omaha high school. And he's just a great human being. And I said, can we name a trophy after you? Maybe we'll build something around it and raise some money for cystic fibrosis. And he reluctantly agreed. Okay. So I went to Mark Mellon, a world renowned sculptor who does bronze statues like this has done statues of Michael Jordan, Steph Curry, Yana Santa, the Gumpo, George Bush. I mean, he's, it's just, it's amazing. So he and Mark Mellon developed a friendship and Dave and Mark came up with this unbelievable trophy. They're ways about 50 pounds. Thing is awesome. Like I like and I've never seen any trophy in that shape because you don't normally get an offensive lineman or a center shape when you're doing something like this. It is remarkable. Right. So Mark did an unbelievable job. Dave helped them curate it. Look it, look at it and come up with an idea. And we've had what I think we've had 26 winners to this point

or 27. Eight have gone on to the NFL. Tyler Lindobam was the last one that, you know, that actually just moved to Las Vegas and probably the richest center in the history of the sport and the Charles Bentley, one of the four Ohio State. So we actually are going to take this trophy around to different games this year. I'm going to actually promote it. Nice. We haven't really promoted. You know, ESPN picks it up. But it's part of the, you know, the national college awards ceremonies. Great. And so it does have legitimacy. But it's a beautiful, beautiful trophy. And then every year we give it to the winner out in Lincoln, Nebraska at the Rococo theater. Oh, the Rococo theater. Love the Rococo theater. See how much this thing weighs. Yeah, I know. I saw Bob Plansker having a, having issue with it. He's a nice strong man. By the way, this thing is so realistic in the break. You were sticking your hands underneath his butt. It was crazy. You just were having flashbacks in the front. I have his one. He's y'all and at me through his legs when he's giving me the shotgun. Right, right. I'm going to go. No left. That's awesome. And I've met Dave

many times. He's just one of the greatest guys. So this is, this is a really, really cool thing. And I hope that I know those in the past that have wanted to really understood what it meant. And I hope this year's winner understands and sees this trophy. And it's a, it's a legacy thing, man. It's awesome. It really is. It's a great legacy thing. But the thing is, so we're going to say I think we'll take it to an army game. I think we're going to take it to Ohio State Oregon game. You know, we have about 30 guys that are on the watch list. You know, so, you know, a lot of schools are involved in the promotion of this and really, you know, getting it out there. But when the guys get it and they see it for the first time, they can't believe it. I mean, I put a beautiful trophy. Now, Al, maybe you can do this. Put in Division One football awards and see how many ESPN recognizes. I know they recognize the roommate and trophy. I think the rest of the awards maybe accept for this one and maybe one other. The guys are dead. Oh, really? It's alive. You know,

like I'm trying to get him like taking out, get out there. Yeah. A little bit more. He's retired from our foundation right after 2020, right after the COVID and he moved down the Florida with his beautiful family. So, you know, I'm trying like, I don't know. He might be at Burning Man right now. Oh, he loves that. I don't know. Is Burning Man going on right now or something? I don't think so. I think I'm not sure when it goes. Okay. Quite frankly, but yeah. I mean, he's gone to that many years in a row to take pictures. Very interesting man. Yeah, he's a photographer. Yeah. Yeah, get him out there, man. How many awards do you see? There's many awards. There's like three, six, nine, twelve, fifteen, eighteen. No, to keep it. That can't be that many awards. I mean, the major ones are Highsman, right? The Blitnikov, the John Mackie, Maxwell, Alwyn, the Lombardi, Maxwell award, Maxwell award, Walter Camp, right? Don't walk our award, right? Blitnikov, Brian Blitnikov, Johnny, United, Jesus. The Outland trophy, Rimmington, trophy. Yeah. The Bronco, the Gersky award. Yeah,

I think he's the only guy who live. That is, he's really got to get out there and take advantage of this. Jim Thorpe. Right. That's what I'm saying. I don't write guys. He's still around. There's a Ray Guy award. No, he's not. You know that perfect. Teddy Hendrix award. There's a lot of awards. A lot of awards. They love a good award here. Everybody loves a good award. What about this one? The Warful trophy. Danny Warranty was still there. He's the best. All I've ever been. He better be. That would be tragic, right? Can't be that old. What is that for? That's for it. Not sure. Okay. The Warful trophy. I'm a Warful Award winner. Goes to the Heisman winner who has no shot of doing anything in the process. Yeah, he's 52 Danny Warful. What is his award for Danny award? College premiere award for the best FPS player.

That's all right. You have a bunch of different awards. But this is one of the major ones here. We see we have seven former winners that have earned all rookie. More than 20 combined, Pro Bowl selections. They've played combined trophy winners have played over 1500 games. Right now, let's say eight former Remington trophy winners are currently playing in the NFL, including the great Tyra Linderbaum, the highest paid center in NFL history, by the way. By the Raiders. You know the Warful trophy's got a sponsor. You got a sponsor on this thing. It's the old state Warful trophy. Is it really? Yeah. Well, good. Why don't we make this the Ford Remington trophy? Or something and whatever. I don't know. We'll figure it out. I'm sure my man Tony Toronto's all over it. Let's see. Yes right now. California cryo bank. Yeah, yeah, you're being tropey. That would be great. The incogni. You know, you know what fits with you like the Walter something. Yeah.

Like Milwaukee tools or somebody like that. What about Romeo Fuel? Well, they're local. Oh, okay. You need more of a national brand. All right. Oh, the wheels are turning now. They are. I guess North Shore. Oh, don't die first. Yeah. Put one on. I mean, you'd have to have a life size one. Look at the bucket on this trophy. I don't think it's shot. Well, he's been lifting a little bit. I think. Yes. I mean, it is heavy. Don't mind the drilling. Yeah. All right. Here we go. Yeah. Oh, here he goes. He's got it. Do some curls because I know you like to do curls. Yeah. Look, he is lifting. Look at those arms. Good job. Wow. Wow. Nice. They really do. Look at that. That's how he muscle that works. Maybe you should join Charlton with some blue chew. The blue chew rimmington trophy. Yeah. The better sex.

Bonertime. Sex isn't just about physical. Sex is about mental. Oh, come on. Look at how his arms though. I know it. Well, you better screenshot that. That is some thirst trap material. Yeah. That was good. You profile pick. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That was good, man. You know, I know, uh, I don't want to glaze you here, but, uh, man, oh, man. It's the only muscle that does anything in the gym. I could do other things. Nothing happens. Huh. And that arm takes to with them. By the way, I think our colleague, Willie Cologne is speaking at the rimmington trophy awards that are this year. You think or you know, I know. Okay. I do know. Yes. Look. Oh, look. Look. Look. Look. Oh, look at the striations. Look at that. Oh, man. You put that up on hinge. Yeah. What I saw in the captivate elevator coming up that there are a thousand genetic markers that we all have that basically make up our personality traits. How about that?

Huh. And I was thinking about you out about which personality traits you have and which genetic markers you got. Hmm. Would you come up with the bottom 10? That's a thousand genetic markers, yeah. That's wild. I'd like to look more into that. Okay. Another time. All right. And it's boomerangio on the fan and CBS sports networks. Take some calls. Uh, no, we're not going to break. No, no, no, no, it's 11 after. I know you've been puking, but your brain should still be intact. Yeah, just, uh, what is going on? Oh, the drilling. Yeah. I mean, that is unbelievable. Yeah. It's loud today. It's all right. Uh, Joel and Perth Amboy. What's going on? Joel? Oh, good morning. How's it going, guys? Doing great. What's happening? Joel? I think the guys that was trophy five, we know what they're doing. Yeah. Hell yeah. Looks like it for sure. Yeah. You want to talk some yanks today, Joel? What's up? Absolutely. So yesterday,

Judge comes back, which is great phenomenal. The whole 99 days. It's cinema. You know, you couldn't have wrote any better. Um, my concern is now that he's back, you're not the Asian him right away. You're having them play the field, which I'm a little iffy about. He goes against a rookie who's only seven for the year as like 4048 track up to whatever. And my most concern thing is that he had some great loud foul balls and his first step back. And then he struck out on a fast ball. So it seems like that sport. When he takes a swing, it's still slow. It's still probably, you know, need some rehabbing, but it scared me a little bit because of how he's not able to catch up and be on time with the ball, you know, and it's not even in the great picture. You tell me, Joel, you're worried about torque this morning on Aaron judge. You can't be worried about his torque. And I will not say this because I can't talk analytically in this way and take myself seriously.

But Rami gave me some sort of crazy analytics that is contrary to what Joel was saying. I'll let him say it because I don't want it recorded and played back that I actually said something like this. But go ahead, Rami. What'd you say to me? So he may have been laid on the swing, but according to this is from Brendan Cuddy, judge bat speed on the swinging strike on that strike. I was 79.6 miles per hour. His average swing this season was 76.1. So that's a good sign. All right. Good sign. So there you go, Joel. You happy now his torque is fine. Four mile an hour faster. Yeah. He was probably ant up. It's a adrenaline talk. That's what that was. I mean, this is his first game back. He's been missing 99 games, man. Well, 99 days or 99 days, whatever. Yeah. But it is. It's good to know that the talk is where it needs to be. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I feel like he didn't have any rehab. I'm a my cousin, Vinnie. Yeah. We we knew he didn't do any rehab games. If you talk

it about it, yeah. I mean, the fact he made some contact yesterday was fine. I mean, they won the game. They got him out of the game and won with this replacement. Right. So everybody could chill out. You know what I mean? I mean, I, you know, they brought him back to early. No, he did not. They did. I mean, in the place was was fired up. That's what I love. I mean, it was the like the first time even though they've been playing well, but I mean, the first time him coming back, you felt like he rear in September, getting ready for the postseason. It had that and a little juice around it. Yeah. I'll tell you what, he almost ran into Spencer Jones out there in the outfield. Yeah. That would have been interesting. That was a good thing. That was a good thing. Yeah. It was for seven guys running into each other. Yeah. They want to talk about football game out in the outfield of the Yankees. God. Imagine that first game back runs into Spencer Jones out again. That would have been great. You got to put, you know, like they stuck that one caller said you got to put opposing magnets on their heads. So then they repel from each other when they get too close. Yeah. That was a real phone call we took. We were talking about concussions. Guys, put put opposing magnets on the helmets. So when they get too close,

the players heads will repel. Yeah, but there are 22 helmets on a field. We know how stupid it was. I'm saying, there's 22 helmets on the field. You're going to have 22 different magnets. I guess. That's what he was saying. It's the boomerangio podcast from WFAN. We're in geo on the fan and CBS sports network. The road to Los Angeles. Are we going to be on that road to Los Angeles this year? No. No. Okay. Now the road to Los Angeles presented by he looks wireless where connectivity meets possibility. I think that would close. A B C and E S P N carrying the Super Bowl. Okay. Well, I mean, if the jets or giants make it, we'll be on that road. And River Spring Living experienced the difference. Visit River Spring Living. Dot org. Jerry, did you see Al's guns out when he was lifting the rimming tin trophy?

No, but Al's in great shape. That doesn't surprise me. Yeah, but his arms look really. I mean, his arms look great. Look at that. Yeah. Well, Al goes to the gym every day. Well, not every day. Most days. Some days. And does what? Orals. Is that it? Well, I do like chest shoulders and arms, but the only thing that ever responds is my arms. That's it. Which is weird. Not. No. Stand up. Let me see your shoulders. Stand up. Let me see that. Do you do any neck exercises? No. I mean, by the way, this is with that big butt going right down to Al's crotch with this. I mean, if someone had no idea what was going on, and they just put that on. Well, before we knew we were showing initially, the trophy's butt is faced right into Boomer and his head coach. By the way, that trophy so big, you can make a porn with it. It's huge. Well, I mean, centers are big people. That's a big trophy. That's a great trophy.

It's a great looking trophy. I didn't say any great. That's a big trophy. That is awesome. Turned on by that. Jerry, you could put your you played it on quarterback. I could say John the. I did. I did. See with that. I'm trying to move the trophy. I got to move this ass. Move it. Yeah. Moot at ass. Boomer, 88. Oh, there he goes. What are we going? Wrong with that. 51's the mic. This was actually what he's doing right here. He's pointing 51's the mic. He's got to tell the other idiots that he was actually built to scale the exact size of your high school center. Right. Exactly. He's nice. No, no, my high school center was my height. Oh, really? I was just one over. I think I remember every center I played with from high school. Wow. Eddie Condon, Dave Remington, Bruce Kuzersky, Jim Sweeney, Caldixon, Mike Devlin and Derek Brills. Wow. That's impressive. Pretty good. Oh, yeah. I mean, get kind of

close to them. I know. I know. But yeah, I understand. Put your hands in a man's ass. You're going to remember who it was, right? Especially in the NFL when they don't wear cups or butt pads. Yeah. You're right in there. You're right up on the sack. You go right in there, man. You have to be. It'll take tickler. What? You're the one that's talking about being close to the professor. Strange. Well, because in high school, you're talking about taint. You're talking about what? What? He said taint tickler. Yeah. Okay. You're doing you're saying sack because in high school and in pop water, you put that right hand up and you felt padding. Well, you know, you felt a cup. It's what you felt. Whatever. You felt an hurt when the ball would be snapped. Put in the NFL. You have to put it on the side of the cup. None of you lunatics wear cups. Yeah. Crazy. Absolutely nuts. It's amazing that any of you have children with those balls exposed like that in the most violent game we know. God. It's amazing between you and Mike Hill. Mike Hill's the one who got to scroll them ripped open. The guy works for your foundation. Yeah, the guy's in the bike tour.

I mean, the guy lives his life. He's just a regular guy. You're out there in the NFL. But if he's gonna work for me, he's gonna have to fight through it. And he does all there is to it. Lost a lot of blood. Finish that whole thing. He looked like a ghost at the end of it, but he finished. By the way, Rami, you're doing the bike tour with me this year. Oh boy. Am I? Are you? I think that's a yes. I think this might not be a choice spot. Yeah. No choice spot. You're like biking with those big, Gen Z thighs that you got, right? I can bike a little bit. I actually fell off my bike once and broke my chin, broke a couple teeth. No, God. Simply grifting. No, not at all. Just since then, I haven't biked as much, but I'll still bike from time to time. Well, are you willing to get involved and raise some money and be a part of this thing? First of all, I would do it if I had a bike. Oh, he'll get you the bike. Don't worry about that. Pat Boyle's got my bike. I could probably take Pat's bike. I can get that back from Pat. He's been trying to get it to me and I'm like, Pat,

I'm not going to ride things. Maybe your parents get your bike for Hanukkah. Just a little bit of advice. Would that be nice to have a bike for Hanukkah? If you say yes, you're in. No, I know. Okay. My brother would love to do it. My brother bikes like 200 mile races. Sounds like you got a team. You're in. You got a team. There you go. You're in. Let's go. Yep. You got a team. There you go. Gen Ramy. I hope he's listening right now. Yeah. We got a team Ramy. Let's go. Yeah. Bang. You're in. Those more nominating him. Yeah. I mean, this is great. Where's your brother live? He's in dental school in Westchester. So he's right here. Okay. Well, he's ready to go. Get those legs moving. Shut those mouths. Don't be wearing those scrot shorts when I show up. And I want to be seeing that thing hanging out. Don't the bikers wear those tight shorts? Yeah, we wear tight padded pants. Yeah. Yeah, those are worse than my shorts. No, they're not. Oh, yes, they are. No, they're not. My brother and those all the time. Can't imagine seeing you and those. Well, you're gonna. You are gonna.

I've done it twice in every year. We raised a ton of money for it. At the Portland, you did your eye. You always, you always come through. Put in my, put in my time out there on the wheels. Oh, and by the way, just another reminder, uh, Jerry, you and Celo, we're going to auction you off again for our golf tournament. Awesome. Look forward to it. So the, you know, the gentleman you played with last year, you've become friends with. I don't want, I don't want. I don't know. Yeah, we don't want to say his name. Yeah. But he made a really nice donation for a, for some that wouldn't be able to play in it. So that's nice. We found four people that we think would fit exactly what he wants to do. That's awesome. I think that was terrific. So, I'm gonna bring another guy to play with you and Celo this year. Okay. So if you're interested, you can go to a sysin.org and you can bid for Jerry and Celo to play in my golf tournament on October 5th. Awesome. Yes. I was very happy that I was able to get Jerry duty moved. No problem at all. Really? Right? You told him you had a, I said I work conflict and I gave them like eight other

weeks I could do it. Next day, they gave me the assignment another day. It was no problem. And Al is going to be in the studio that day, right? No, no. Al is going to be out there with us. Oh, I thought there was the trade that was made that day because he didn't go to do process. And he was saying, how come I'm not at the due process one, which is right down the block from my house. However, I have to go to that one. I thought a swap was made that day. But he wants his free golf bag. We'll bring it to him. No, no, no. They'll be there picking it up. He loves that golf. I do love a good golf bag. He does. He feels like Christmas. I see what's in the looks and crannies, the pockets. Yeah, everything. But you brought in that golf bag from the due process one, you gave it to him. He didn't. I felt guilty. I felt bad. Okay. I wanted to make sure that he knew that I was thinking of him. It does seem a little off. Just that the one that's four miles from his house. That was because the one that's the name in the playoffs. That's not supposed to happen. Well, when X were in the plus, we had to stay on the air. And we did. And it sounded great. That was

that was a satellite crew, by the way. Yes. And I think with a main crew, I think he could do his job fine from here. Stop. You want me to get somebody else to play? No, I'm just I'm defending Al here because he's not opening his mouth. Yeah, I thought that the trade was made that I did too. Yeah, I thought that that's what happened. It's like, okay, so you should have been here today. Sorry about that. You went to the city and you don't have to show up as a one on long. I never said that. That's what I thought. I never said that. I remember some sort of deal being. If you could bring me the bag and like something from breakfast the next day. Yeah, correct. All right, she's hanging around after we got cane tuck playing. Cane tuck? Yeah, it's the name of the band. Okay. I did. They're good. Very good. Okay. Is there like cover banders like they do their own stuff? They do cover it in cover band. Okay. Good job. They're playing in Stephen's talk house Friday night before. Ooh, I want to go.

Friday night. Yeah, maybe. I don't think I got anything going on. All right. Yeah, be awesome. Cane tuck. Cane tuck. All right. What is happening, Jerry Raccoon sports? How about Patriot Seahawks tonight? Week one of the NFL opens. So Devon McCordy sat down with Drake, May and AJ Brown. And I imagine the entirety of this interview will be played during the pregame tonight. And so McCordy, as he's looking at both of them sitting right across from him, asks May and Brown about being locker neighbors. I imagine something you're familiar with, Boomer. At first, said we noticed we walked in here. Everybody was like, there are lockers inside by side. Did y'all choose that? Did you just come in and lockers were together? How'd that go? And so Drake, May is the quarterback. He's like, you damn right. Very thoughtful answer. I think it's kind of natural. You know, you want to have, you know, two of the leaders on offense and, you know, especially in the skill position room to be, you know, in cost communication and have a, just kind of a demeanor. You know, in the locker room of, I mean, those, those two guys over there talking football, you know, you're working and doing things the right way. Make sense. Then they looked at Brown.

Yeah, I had no idea about what I just, I came and I was there. So it's kind of interesting. I was always around the offensive lineman. I never wanted to be around the wide receivers. Why is that? Because they're a pan in the ass. Oh, it was open. I'm open. I'm open here. I'm gonna run this gun. Run that, you know, it's like, oh my god. Well, maybe AJ Brown again, 150 catches this year. I think he and Garrett Wilson and Malik neighbors will be like boom, boom right there with Justin Jefferson and everybody else. CD Lam. CD Lam. What about Jackson Smith and Jigba? Yeah. Big season. Yes. And baby. Super bowl champion. I would Dave Simms say his name. What else is going on? Yeah. Niners Rams in Australia tomorrow, Baker Mayfield, a three year extension with the bucks, 165 million dollars. The Jet Start and Tennessee on Sunday. Here is Aaron Glenn. He was asked about, you know, Rob Salas now coaching the Titans. And I didn't hear the question, but it sounds as if he was asked

something along the lines of this has to be personal to Salah, you know, right? He used to be the jet said coach. It goes with, I guess you could say the territory of Salah once it's being here and then I stepped in as the head coach. But to me, I'll look at it. It's a game that we're going through to win. And it doesn't matter who it is. Yep. Gotta go out and beat him. In terms of this jet team, what would make these season a success? Successful season. Um, I'm actually winning. Yeah. Winning. I mean, hands down effort, discipline. And then he just, I don't know why just glared at the reporter. It was, it was a range. I could, he's probably thinking you're trying to trap me into saying X amount of wins. Or now you're going to bring this back to me at the end of the season where you said, Oh, you know, that you wanted to see this to be a successful season. And we're not seeing that. I mean, I could understand why he would be annoyed at that. I'm just glad

that he didn't answer it like a jerk like he has. Yeah. The, the interesting thing is they're going to be, well, you would think that they have four games on their schedule, maybe five if he count Cleveland. I'm not sure what to make of Cleveland just yet. But five games were their playing teams that they, that are worse than they are. Maybe six. Winable. I mean, yeah, Tennessee got Miami twice. You got Vegas Cleveland Vegas. I mean, that's five games right there. I mean, you got to, you got to win those games. Now you use the word being a jerk. So I was going to do this a little later, but I'll do it now. Dabo Sweeney with the media yesterday. So Clemson got lit up by LSU. A lot of people are questioning the way he put this team together. His use of NIL, the portal, things of that nature. So he was asked this question. Do you regret anything about your offseason roster in structure rhythm? Chapel, you come with all these questions. I'll tell you that you're the gotcha guy. The gotcha guy. Okay. So he goes on to answer the question. No, I don't, I don't man.

I regret being over one right now. I regret that. But what can you ask Matt at the end of the season, you know, the season in over. I mean, we got one game got 11 more. Well, if we go 11, one. Okay. And then I was an ass kick. And then, you know, Clemson fans were showing some of the guys that got some of the big NIL money in the offseason, and they were getting housed. And, you know, that's not a good sign for the coach. Well, he continued on this theme before he really turns into a jerk. You promised me you asked me that then? Okay, good. I'll answer. All right. But I'm not answering questions like that, you know, Chapel. I know that's your role. And that's in this environment, you know, to be the guy that wants to create all the controversy and ask the controversial questions. If that's who you are, it's fine. I get it. All right. It's a little swarming, right? I mean, he got to he got licked up and down for years and years and years by these things. He won a national championship. But you also, you have to remember now, this is no longer college football. This is professional. Yeah. I mean, the coaches are getting paid $10 million a year.

The players are getting paid. I mean, so now all of a sudden, the questioning is going to be different. I know it's always intense down the SEC and down South, down by Clemson and South Carolina and all that. But it's going to only get worse with social media and the amount of money that's being spent on the sport. Now, Alli is tells the story about he felt like Warren Sap was going to basically show him in a locker. Yeah, yeah. So here is where Davos Swini, if he could have, it sounds like would have with this reporter. And he really does sound like a jerk here. We played one game. One game. All right. Did you play football? Oh, okay. Well, they give you 12 games. And at the end of the year, you count them up. All right. And, and, you know, that's when, that's when those type of questions are fair to me. Yeah. As opposed to after 51, 10 in prime time. I mean, you got to be something happened to Texas and archmaning last year when they lost old high-stay. And I guess that's his point. The season has just begun. But he is getting

clobbered everywhere. Yeah. These are passionate fans, man. You know it. It's kind of like Yankee fans around here. Yeah, but the Yankee. Yeah. Everybody expects a national championship. Yeah, I know, but especially when you spend $25 million on your team. Yeah. 51 to 10. It's not even Yankee. The Yankee are always. I don't even know what the equivalent to that would be losing to the Red Sox, the opening weekend of the series by a combined score of 30 to 4. Yeah. By the way, I was reading a story about LSU and they were saying how those two players that were trying to come back to the NFL are no longer going to be added to the roster because they added two other players to the roster. So now they have a total of 105 players on the roster. You also are the SEC taking them to court. Yes. I mean, there's a lot going on down there. It seems like they have backed off that whole thing because at halftime, Lane Kiffin said the Holly Row, could you imagine if we had any NFL players, what this game would be like? He seems like a lovely guy.

Oh, he's next down. He always got my car wash nice. That was good. I forget about that. I've found from the Yankees. They did beat the Rockies. Five to three. Aaron Judge was back. He went over three, but Ryan McMahon had a big hit and Elliott Ramos said the three were on a homer. Yankees clenching their 34th consecutive winning season. They don't pick up any ground on the race though because the race and Freddie Peralta beat the Braves course. Of course. Me time, Pete Alasui had his 33rd home run, but the Orioles did lose. And the best people on the Wii show. Actually on the IL, again, we talked about that. Yes. Shocking, right? Exactly. It's the Boomerangio podcast from WFAN. Hi, Boomerangio on the fan and CBS Sports Network Phil Sims in studio with us at the top of the hour 8 a.m. A lot of things to talk to him about as the NFL season gets kicked off tonight with the Patriots and Seahawks. Of course, a rematch of the Super Bowl. So I really don't know the full story behind this yet, but I do know that the photos are fake. So Clay Matthews,

he's a part of this Netflix broadcast tomorrow in Australia. And he's been on other video podcasts recently and his faces look normal. But all of a sudden TMZ puts out these photos of Clay Matthews and air quotes with a giant jaw and he's all jacked up and they got someone. Oh, look at Clay Matthews here. Like, obviously got some work done. So I don't know if they're in conjunction TMZ with whatever this promotion is around Clay Matthews and faking everybody out about it. They might be because I don't know how you could get faked out by these pictures. They look so incredibly fake. I mean, no one would ever be able to do that with their face. I don't think what they did to Clay Matthews. But if anybody saw those pictures and thought just because TMZ picked it up, that it was real. It's not. And it's either him playing a joke on people or it has something to do with promoting him or getting people to talk about him as he makes his debut on Netflix

tomorrow with that game with the Niners and Ram. You know, I worked with Clay Matthews with the Super Bowl down in New Orleans, I believe. Okay. He was on the NFL today set as one of our guest hosts. Just we did it also with Travis Kelsey. I think that was down in Houston. Oh, okay. Yeah, so yeah, both of those guys you knew we're going to be good for TV if they wanted to do it. And, you know, obviously, Clay is close with Pat McAfee. Yeah. So it's good for him. He gets exposure there as well. And I'm sure he gets paid by Pat with that $60 million payday. That's AJ Hawk. That he does show. Yeah, I just I don't know if Clay's been on that show and because of AJ, I'm sure he has. Yeah. Anyway, played against Bruce Matthews and Clay Matthews senior. Yes, this Clay Matthews junior we're talking about. I don't know if you see it, but Clay Matthews was the guy that was with us. Yes. Well, the Packers lineback. Yes. Yes. Who was that's why AJ Hawk and he could be brothers. Yeah, for sure. And I just remember being terrorized as a Vikings fan by both

Brian Erlacker and Clay Matthews junior during those years. Guys were just unbelievable. All of over the field causing chaos. But I don't know of CBS sports that were can pull up that Clay Matthews fake photo, but for anybody to have bought that thing. And I want to know if TMZ is behind it. But because they couldn't have been faked out by this. It's just no way. You saw him, right? Yeah, it looked like it was totally fake. Yeah, TV can't use it. But I mean, it is. Why can't TV use? I don't know. It's on social media stupid fricking rules that are out there. I figured if you're on social media, you could use it right? Steven Waldron CBS sports. How why can't you use it? What would be the consequences if you did? I don't know. I don't know the consequences, but we can. But what but honestly, what was going to? Who is the person like this whole thing? Yeah, I bet he's going to get it. Yeah, but who is the person who's going to come after you about this? They're using these images to promote something. And we're actually doing that. Someone's going to say,

you can't use it. Can you usually agree that that's stupid? Of course it is. Okay, all right, there you go. That's one. I mean, I'm looking at it right now. If you turn it around, you can't use that. I guess not. No. Yeah, that's real. It's not real. It's 100% fake. I was just on with Taylor LeWon and Will Compton on their podcast and it looked normal like four days ago. No, it's not real. So it's a it's a promotional thing. Guys a good looking guy, man. Well, like in real life, yeah, not not what ever those AI images were. No, those AI images made him look like he was like a bad guy and a Batman movie. Yeah. Yeah, like, yeah, of course, like a like a superhero or a villain in a superhero movie. Yeah. I mean, I felt about Phil every every Sunday morning at the NFL today, I walk in and there's the evil Phil Sims wearing the lady glasses, which was his superpower. It was a superpower. Once he put on those

lady glasses and all of a sudden, man, he had some hot takes, the hot take lady glasses. He did through those things on pins were flying. They were flying. They were flying. I mean, Zach Martin caught him like a striped bass in there. Yeah, but Zach, supposedly, Zach Martin said that he thought it was me. Now meanwhile, I'm sitting in here and I'm talking on a microphone and then he walked into Alan Rami's. Yeah. He came in and just slapped him on the back. He thought it was he did think it was Boomer. What? I don't believe that I'm I'm sitting here on the I know, but it's so loud. You don't even know who's on the radio or if you're in commercial break, you know, with all the construction. So he just came in just, see, I think that he's just messing around because that's what Pete, that's the joke. And then he's just doing the joke and that's his entry point and to be able to badger Phil Sims. No, because he was initially embarrassed. He didn't want to say it. Really? How does that he just worked with you for how many years now, Zach?

I know. He was here before you like, we're full time, I think. And Boomer's taller. Yes. Much taller. Much taller. Yeah. Much bigger. Big Phil shrinking. I don't think he's shrinking, but man, I'll tell you what, he's got some meat hooks for hands. He admitted in here. He is in fact shrinking. Really said that we lose a eighth or something in eighth of an inch every year. Not me. I haven't lost any inches. But he said the last time he lost a quarter engine, he feels like it's speeding up. Really? That it looks like he's in pretty good shape. Looks like he's in good shape. He's just getting shorter. Looks like he should be working on a tractor somewhere with those hands. It's probably like a Kentucky farmer type guy should be working like in a tobacco warehouse or something. I was listening to that Bill Marr podcast with that Scott Galloway and he's like, we lose one percent of our brain capacity every year starting at 45. I'm like, what? Who's studying this?

We have people studying everything. Where are those numbers coming from? And how do we know? Studies. Does anybody take a test to say this? And someone's got to be overachieving. Somebody's got to be underachieving. Somebody have parvaged doing this test. On who? On people, you know, becoming your age. I don't believe any of this. You're going to be one of their subjects. I don't believe any of it. I think I'm getting more intelligent. I think everybody does. To a certain degree and then you start losing it later. But I mean, don't you feel more intelligent now than you did 20 years ago? Experience. Yes. Well, with experience comes intelligent. That's the point.
