This is the Chris Carlin podcast. This is live morning Zettin on ESPN New York and streaming live on YouTube. Before we get to baseball breaking news presented by a boost mobile, Shomshraniah is reporting that WNBA commissioner, Kathy Engenberg, has decided to retire at the end of the season sources tell ESPN. Now she's been under a lot of fire, especially after she was ducking Dan Patrick and the WNBA, which what what what has become so sad and I really don't like talking about it anymore because of the toxicity and the bad actors and the lack of genuine sincere commentary surrounding the league. It's become so sad that as the sport has gained popularity and maximized the growth and the audience because of all the talent, people really don't focus on the basketball part of it, which is why it was so refreshing to hear. My man Ryan Ruko and

Robin Lumberck who appeared on DHR yesterday, you know, engaged in a little dialogue about the league because the W is growing and Ryan is the voice of the WNBA. Robin Lumberck has has carved out quite a career for himself covering the league and more specifically the Indiana fever and Caitlin Clark and now he's got a book coming out which is going to be pretty dope and they both expressed the same sentiment. Like there are so many people who are using this sport and how it is grown to this level to where it has become, you know, a bit of a mainstream topic, they're using it as an opportunity to weaponize it as their thoughts and feelings on like political and social issues as opposed to just being able to sit there and watch a basketball game and like doofuses like

Ennis Cantor. Ah man, I'm fine on a lawsuit. I'm going to the front row and sitting at the game and I'm going like what are you doing bro? You don't care about the WNBA. So it's just sad to see that anytime this comes up as a topic of conversation it's no longer about the basketball part of it. It's about all of the controversial issues that have taken the forefront and you know have kind of become the center of attention. But you know, Kathy Engenberg, who a lot of people have been on because of her failure to acknowledge and to recognize the issues and stand up and be a damn commissioner, she has decided she's going to retire at the end of the season. So that is our breaking news brought to you by Bruce Mobile. Bruce Mobile don't overpay, get unlimited talk, text and data for $25 a month forever for life for real switch now at boost mobile.com.

We are hanging in the comments, coming off for what I said about the giants and how, look, I think people are a little bit over their skis when it comes to them. 10 wins, 11 wins, that's not happening. My man, Danny Parkins, who I tried to get on the show today, let's talk about they're going to win the NFC East and man, imagine anyone in NFC East, I guess I would have egg all over my face. It would be great for the city. That's not going to happen though. But someone in the comments, Marcus Black Monster said the Cowboys running the NFC East. There was someone else who mentioned something about the hype of the Cowboys. Oh, Lucifer Morningstar says the Cowboys always look good and then the playoffs take the belt out. I am not making a case as to why Dallas should be the favorites to win the Super Bowl or favorites to win the NFC. I'm not doing that. I am simply saying they're better than the giants and we will see that next Sunday onto the New York Yankees. They, they, they, in my eyes in order to have a legitimate

chance of stealing this division from the race need to be within one game of Tampa when you start that series on the 22nd, which means you've got 15 games, 15 to make up to, 15 games to make up to on a team that has been seemingly hemorrhaging. Shout out to the Mets who won that series. And if not for Sean Monaya, once again, voivaring all over himself, Monica to swap that series and help the Yankees a little bit more. But 15 games to make up to ahead of that series because if you're going into a four game set against these rays needing a sweep, you're drawing dead. Because we know in order for the Yankees to gain a tie breaker, they have to sweep Tampa. And I get it at the stadium. The Yankees are red hot right now. The offense has come alive. They scored six or more runs and seven of their

previous 11 games. I understand all that. But you're not sweeping the race, especially because right in the middle of things, you've got a double header. And I've got to watch Ali Sanchez with, you know, his past balls and strikeouts. I don't think the Yankees are sweeping the race. Can you take three or four? Absolutely. That's two games right there. That's two games. So if you get into that series, two back of Tampa, you take three or four, you're now tied. The problem is again, because you did not sweep them. They own the tie breaker. And now you're going to need some help that final weekend of the season. And you will be up against the Orioles. I'm actually going to that Friday night game. It's going to be pretty cool because it's Josh Hart, Bobblehead night. So you'll be up against the Orioles. And then it's a weird spot. But favorable for the Yankees,

that to end the season, the rays are playing in Philadelphia. That's, that's odd. The having, and I guess it's because of the wonkiness of the schedule and the interlude play every day. But you would imagine it would be best. That it would, it would be more fun to have division games to end the season. But be as it may. The rays and in Philadelphia, the Yankees are home against the Orioles. So again, I think that you need to be within a game of the rays. Start that series. You take three or four. You then have a game lit and now you control your own destiny. But as we get to that final weekend of the season, all of a sudden, the Orioles who we thought were cooked could have something to play for in that series against the Yankees. And wouldn't that be perfect? Peter Lanzo, Luis Robert Jr. powering Baltimore to a playoff spot.

And then in the National League, you've got PCA who's going to win the MVP. As if the season couldn't get any worse for the meds. Any worse for the meds. And look, I feel just a quick aside on the meds real quick, quick aside real quick. I was in the office yesterday at S&Y talking to some people, producers about the meds. And look, I do think that there's value in, I don't want to say establishing a winning culture because that's become like this. Like go to cliche that just annoys me when we talk about the football season. I do think it's important to start winning. Like to not be the worst team in baseball. To have something along the lines of a respectable record. Yeah, it feels good. Do I think there's some carryover? No, because there's also an element of, wow, you appreciate what you're seeing from your young guys.

It is, there is a revelation that you all of a sudden are able to win games now that there are no stakes. And I know one so, oh, yesterday was talking about who knows we're going to run, we're playing in October, cut it out, bro. Y'all are not making the playoffs. But anyway, back to the Yankees. If you are someone who believes that they must win this division in order to get out the American League, you then have to believe that these are playoffs games the rest of the way starting tonight in San Diego where you've got freed going. The playoffs for the Yankees start, I argued yesterday on the morning show had started last month because you're trying to catch Tampa in this division. And it's not an unfamiliar spot. We were doing the same thing last year against the blue jays. And maybe there is something favorable in that because you're in your playoff mode early. Like there's some momentum. We see teams get hot, go into the playoffs,

and off they go. And so at the Yankees having such high leverage games earlier on their schedule, maybe it plays to a benefit. But here's what I will say. And this was kind of a controversial take. And Tom Bauer, Yuri Yankee fans, I'm curious your thoughts. You ready? I'm ready. Okay, you weren't ready for you on your birthday, but I guess you're ready now. By the way, it's 11-11 everybody to make a wish. My wishes you would stop bringing up the birthday thing. Okay, not going to happen. Why don't you rather have the division decided prior to the final weekend? Because here's my thinking. I obviously, I would prefer the Yankees, when the American Legues, I am not a, I don't condone. I don't endorse playing extra series, being in a best of three

immediately out the gate, you know, to decide whether or not your season ends or continues. While I don't fear the Red Sox, I don't believe in your best path playing extra games. And then it compromising your rotation and, you know, you're kind of falling forward the rest of the way. But here's the deal. If, if they're in a spot, like here's what I don't want, them to be in a spot where it's like the last game of the season, your home for Baltimore, Tampa is in feeling. You are dead after you didn't sweep them to win the season series, Tampa now has that as an advantage. But these two teams are dead tied. They're tied record wise. And so you need the combination of you winning that final game and them losing. I don't want that. I don't want that because of the fear of going all in, starting your best pictures, you know, your bullpen having

to be utilized like the high leverage arms, only to see you fall short. And now a couple days later, best of three against the Red Sox. I don't fear Boston. I don't think that the Red Sox have any chance to beat in the Yankees, but it's still not a great place to be in. So I would Tom, rather have the division settled before the final weekend, even if that means the Tampa has won it, I would rather that than its last day game of the regular season, and you now need to win and get help and you've exhausted all of your options. What's a you? Yeah, I would say for the sake of you can just game plan your how you want to approach the postseason. If you have that division wrapped up ideally with the Yankees winning the division, but can that happen before the final week of the season that will probably be difficult because as Michael K said on the show the other day, the history is not on the Yankee side to win the division. Unfortunately, but even if Tampa

were to win that division, I'd rather know I'm going up against Boston sooner rather than later. But at the same time, if you're the Yankees, can't give up on the season like that. Yeah, I totally agree with you. So the K audio that we you teased before, Michael K was discussing the history of teams overcoming large deficits on September 1st. It was Michael K the other day. The yes research department. I saw this note. The key to the stat was September 1st. So the Yankees are 4.5 games and back of Tampa Bay. Although you think, you know, it's going to be hard work to make up that deficit. It doesn't seem to be impossible. Well, I wonder if you reconsider after I tell you this. So teams that are 4.5 games out in the division, since division play began in 1969. That's 57 years ago. Teams that were 4.5 games back

or more. How many teams in those 57 years do you think ended up winning the division? Here's how many teams? Five. And if that's just one division, it's all of the divisions. So of the Yankee fans out there, do you think that this is going to happen? They have 23 games remaining. The one thing that's the outlier in this is that the Yankees and the Rays play four games. It's in the last week of the year at Yankee Stadium. What you have to hope for is that the Yankees from now until that series at the end of September, they shade three games off. And if they do that, then it makes that four game series interesting. But those stats tell me that it's going to be very, very difficult. And reality then tells you that in all likelihood, it's going to be the Yankees against the Rucksacks in the wild card. Yeah. So time, we were talking about this before the show. I think that one of those five teams had to have been the match blowing that seven and a half game lead back in, it was that 2007?

2007, 2006. Somewhere in that timeline. Yeah. Well, 2006 was the Cardinals loss in game seven to what Beltron not swinging. So it was 2007, they build a seven game lead, seven and a half game lead with 17 left to play. So I think that they're a part of that stat. But as you look at the Yankees and their schedule and you compare it to what Tampa has coming up, like you got to like your chances, right? Because this is a tough series in San Diego, obviously. But you do have two of your three best pitchers going in cold and free. Once you get past this weekend, your home three games against the Rockies, then it's three games next weekend. Look, the match have been playing better, but you should still take care of business against the match. Your at Minnesota, at Arizona ahead of that series against arrays. So you compare that to what

is on the race side, the race who have lost three of their last four games, they have three more games in Texas. They got shut out last night by a control. And then they go to Atlanta. That's a tough series home for Houston. That's no gimmie. We Yankees just lost a home series to the Yashos. Then it's home for the A's, home for the Red Sox. And now, you know, we get to the four game series against the Yankees at the stadium. So in terms of schedule favorability, a favorability, it works. And the Yankees have the upper hand here like they have the advantage ahead of that series. And if all you need to do and I say all you need to do, like it's not a lot to ask is make up two over the next 15 games. They can do it. It's not impossible. That's not impossible. No, it's not impossible at all. And here's the thing that I also want to keep in mind for the race series when we're looking ahead to it. And yeah, the Yankees do have the easier schedule.

One of those four game series with the race is going to be a double header. That was a make up of a game earlier in the year. Normally, we say going into those double headers, you ideally just want to split and then you can live with it at the end of the day. It's not going to be easy for them to take back to back games of a double header. I don't think it's going to be easy for any major league team to be able to do that. Yeah, especially when you got Ali Sanchez having to play behind the plate. One of those games or Austin Wells or insert any catcher for the Yankees this year. It's not been good. Now, Austin Wells though, we can do a guy to give him some credit time. Since the y'all start break, my man's hit in 260. Now he's not, you know, in the running for a batting title at 260, but considering what we have been subjected to over the first few months of the year, post all star break Austin Wells, who did come up with that big hit to spark the rally in the 10th inning against the angels. He's been pretty damn good. He has, but ultimately, can I ultimately trust him in a clutch spot? I mean, he did it there. Absolutely. He's had his moments. I wouldn't

put him high on the peck and order in terms of clutch factor on the New York Yankees roster. But gun, gun, yeah, right now, do the Yankees win this division? Probably not. Okay. I'm usually a guy who sticks with the side of history until I'm proven wrong. Okay. Here's the second part of that question. Do the Yankees in order to win the American league have to win the A L East? I would say yes, maybe, but here's the thing, even if they win the American league east, yes, that gives you home field and that's huge and a buy and it give, well, the buy is what's really clutch. Yeah, but either way, you're still going to have to go against Boston or Tampa and in all likelihood, I think it's going to be Tampa because they would then swap places with the Yankees in terms of the wild card series. Me and you are on the same page. I'm not afraid of the red socks at this point. They're not the right. They're not. So either way,

you're playing the race. The advantage, yes, that helps you out, but they haven't been good against the opponent. Okay. My third question for you is this. Aaron Judge ostensibly is coming back next week in that home series against Iraqis. Like they, there are too many people, I think September 8th for this to be, you know, not a where they're smoked. There's fire situation. Judge comes back and let's just go worst case scenario. He re-anges himself. Is that a deal breaker as far as the Yankees and your belief in them winning the A L East or winning the American League? Yeah, if you're saying winning the A L East, I don't think that would change too much of the factor. The American League. Yeah, probably. They have been, they have been playing better. I will say like recently without Aaron Judge and it seems like maybe they're starting to actually adjust to not having Judge in that lineup. But still at the end of the day,

whatever you want to say about Aaron Judge in the postseason, he was clutch last year. He's had his issues in the past. Having him on the roster ultimately makes the entire team better. It protects the lineup and I'd much rather have Aaron Judge and not. It just pitch and can be very shaky when it gets to deploy off. The Yankees rotation is wonderful. I trust the Pope and a little bit at least. Yeah, if they don't win the division, it's going to make it much harder for me to actually envision them winning the American League. So I've come around on this and I disagree with you. I think that regardless of whether Judge is able to come back and stay on the team healthy because that's still a hurdle he has to overcome. Like I love the videos of him running the bases and playing catch and soft. That's all well and good. He has to four times a game be able to swing that bat and then come away from that feeling good enough to play the next day. And then

also at some point, you've got to have him in the field because if he's a D H, now you've got some lineup decisions to make when it comes to Ben Rice and Garcia who both play the same position. And also both happen to be I would say two of your three best offensive players right now if we throw Cody Belinger. What the all that said with it without airing Judge, they should still be able to get through the American League. Now I'm not arguing that they are as good of a team with Judge than they are without him. That's silly. He's a three time league MVP. He's the best player in baseball and no team loses that and stays the same. But I did see back in what was it 2021, the Braves lose a CUNY Jr. And then when the World Series and with the Yankees having Belinger, having Garcia, having Rice, having Chisholm who's been playing a lot better lately. Well, so I'm not going to act like, you know, is one of those guys. But like I said, post-all star break

he's sitting 260 having Ghostman off the bench. Ramos, they still have enough offensively to be a team that with the best rotation in baseball and a lockdown bullpen, they still have enough that they should be able to get through the American League with or without airing Judge. And you know what, I guess to adding to that argument and maybe it takes away from mine. It doesn't really matter. I'm just going to speak from the heart here. My main concern is getting past Tampa because I'm not really afraid of anybody else in the American League right now. Okay. So that so so it then comes down to can they beat the raise without judge. And I think they can. The raise offense is like so pedestrian. Yeah, it's certainly not an impossible task. I'm just looking at the history of what's happened this year and saying the rays have beaten the Yankees six out of six out of nine times this year. That's a wide margin in my opinion. If they go out and prove that they win even even if they don't sweep the raise this next series and they win three of four against the raise, I will feel much

better and I will probably change my tune. And I will say yes, this is uncertain. This is absolutely certain the Yankees can beat the raise right now. I just hesitate. That's all. Primo says winning the division is paramount. So yeah, I get it, man. I'm not making an argument otherwise. What I'm saying is look a week ago days ago, I didn't think that they were going to win the division. I still don't think they're going to do that. But I'm outlining a path to it feeling more realistic once we get to September 22nd. You're one game back going into that series. I let's do it. Let's get it popping. If you need to sweep, if you've got to win four straight games including a double header, I don't think it's happening. I just don't think it's happening. 8993776. I should mention this because it's important. My main key thievers arey is going to

join us at noon to talk some baseball talks on football as well. So we take a time out. Side line is are you are you yet ready for sideline to sideline in a couple minutes time, Bauer? We're going to make it happen. So it means you're still working on it. Everything's always a work in progress, but I'm ready to go. You feel confident? You feel good? 100% do you even give you more than 100% I'll give you 110% do you feel better than I did walking up to the plate at the softball game before my strikeout, which people are pointing out in the chat. It's the it's like a top five embarrassing moment in my entire life. I still can't believe that happened. Yeah, that's very unfortunate for you. I won I would certainly not strike out of the plate in that situation too. Yeah, I'm ready.

A nice little giant's just a bit. So I say how about you come on he host MLB Network NHL Network. He's on ESPN radio, SNY TV and does visa lives. So he's going to hop on at noon. But at this moment, it's time for my men to buy a shine as we hitch out with a little sideline a sideline. It's going to happen. This is a sideline. You hit me as I was sending a text to our steam guest at noon, Keith Eraser. So that was quite unfortunate. You feel disheveled? Do I feel disheveled over it? No. That was just a bad timing. Oh, I'm sorry. But no, that no, that's okay. I got to be ready. And I said I would be ready. So are you are okay? I was going to say are you blaming me for this? No, no, no. It's just poor timing. I'm mind. Remember Lance Stevenson had the tattoo born ready? That has to be you. You got to be born ready. Yeah, unfortunately, I don't have any tattoos. So I guess I'm not born ready.

Ty, this one just came down from Adam Schaefter going on in the NFL. So I'm going to read you the headline. And I will let you take it from here because it seems like you've been reading the story a little bit more than I've gotten the chance to in the past couple of minutes. So Adam Schaefter tweets out one year after Bill Bell check out denied entry in his first year of eligibility. The pro football Hall of Fame has overhauled its selection process ahead of the 2027 election. So would that classify as breaking news presented by boost mobile? I think so. Yeah, so it looks like among the biggest changes you now have the selection committee reduced from 50 members to 28. So almost in half they cut it. Modern day error players and seniors will no longer be separate categories. All eligible players will now be considered in one pool after the mandatory five year retirement period. The annual finalist group changes from 15 modern error players,

three seniors in one coach and one contributor, which was the old one, it now moves to 13 players, one coach and one contributor. So that's the annual finalist group. And now the previous limit of three seniors on the final ballot that has been eliminated. And so I guess you can go above three seniors if they are former players who are eligible, who you feel like are not as deserving of the seniors. You can now have more than three seniors candidates who reach the final seven no longer will be automatically carried over as finalist to final the following year. Contributor eligibility will now consider a candidate's entire football resume, including playing, coaching and other contributions. This is a substantial overhaul of the halls selection process. Now I thought that this might have been a reaction to the egregious decision not to have Bill

Bellichek in the Hall of Fame because even chef to put it out one year after Bill Bellichek got the night entry. The pro football hall of fame has overhauled its selection process but when you read the story it says that they've been working on changes for two and a half years. They've been working to review the selection process and that the changes were recently approved by the Hall Board of Governors. Now I guess or directors I should say I guess it doesn't mean that what happened to Bellichek wasn't considered because it was a process that had been ongoing for two and a half years so maybe this was like the tipping point but I would find it hard to believe it's some kowiki dink that this happens after the Bellichek debacle. But that is breaking news by boost mobile. Boost mobile don't overpay get unlimited talk, tech and data for $25 a month for ever for life for real switch now at boost mobile.com. Excellent pretty interesting.

It is very interesting and boy Eli Mann again so so can I I'll say this this does sound like it's going to make it harder for guys to get into the Hall of Fame. Yeah I think that's ultimately their goal and what they're trying to do here why they're deciding to do it now off the sudden that I I couldn't understand the reasoning for it like if you really wanted to make it more difficult I feel like this could have been something that they could have implemented years ago but I don't know Hall of Fame discussions have just gotten so out of hand for me time because everybody's like well you're changing the standard of Hall of Fame this and that well yeah the game evolves so naturally things have to change not everybody's comparisons nowadays and this even goes for baseball too can be compared to the past because it's a completely different game it's a completely different way we look at things so I love that take time because it is a flaw in how we analyze Hall of Fame's where we'll have guys not get in first ballot second ballot and then compare those resumes to

that of players from like 60 years ago I was like yeah well this guy's way better than that guy and to your point it's a different era man like things have changed they can basketball pace a place so like everyone not everyone you've got like 10 different guys averaging 25 to 30 points again whereas you know back in I would say the 90s that wasn't the case but yeah man like this is these are sweeping changes and I guess there are those who would be in favor of making it more difficult to get into the pro football Hall of Fame because it should be hard to get into the pro Hall of Fame ultimately will this make it the process any more interesting or not probably not it's gonna be the same thing you're still gonna have five and six or six inductees each year what is the need for Eli Manning is what I immediately think of will it be a little bit harder probably we'll see get in eventually down the line it's possible what they said what players

now have 25 years only of considerment if you let's keep it a buck considerment wow is that the right word did I say something wrong I think you were trying to say consideration consideration that's why I meant to say so if Eli doesn't get in after 25 years of consideration I love Eli and I think he's a Hall of Famer but I'm clearly biased because I'm a giant fan the conversation about Eli nationally versus locally it is like the disparity between those two things oh it's night and day yeah like it's like maybe it's like nothing I've ever seen before as far as like discussing a player now here's here's my here's my argument with all this if it's really gonna take 25 years for you to get into the Hall of Fame you really a Hall of Famer that's my question I like it times on fire day outside of a considerment you're on fire yeah I love Eli but that's all I'm gonna leave it at anyway let's talk let's talk a little bit more about

actually know it before again to college football stuff I want to get into this quote that you wanted to play about Josh Allen earlier we talked about this in the meeting I actually haven't heard the quote by think I know where it's going this is from get up on September 2nd and it's labeled the scrutiny against Josh Allen is misguided is this the correct clip that I am going to play for you Ty I think so okay let's get into it but I think there is a perception that Allen has been instrumental in a lot of the ways they've gone about things which I have no problem with he's the star of the team but if it goes great terrific if it goes in the opposite direction then I think more of it falls on him than normally would have yeah I think the the scrutiny is misguided though if you look at Josh Allen over the last really six times they've been in a play out the last six playoff losses he has 14 touchdowns to one interception he has a QBR of 88 he's only taken six sacks and 237 dropbacks they lost three consecutive times by three points or fewer where should the

scrutiny be defense yeah can we get a stop can Josh Allen play defense because if he can't that's where the scrutiny should be to me Josh Allen has done enough to win a Super Bowl to get them to a Super Bowl the defense has been the one to let him down that that's that's that's what's that's our firm Rex Ryan I would say yeah Josh Allen has never lost the game here you know it's so funny about that we thought we'd do respect to joining Rogers what when you say can the defense get a stop well yeah man the last playoff game we saw Josh Allen and the defense didn't get a stop in overtime against the Broncos and what happened on the ensuing possession with the ball and Josh Allen's hands to win that game to get them to the ASC championship what happened he threw an interception so you can give me the whole 14 to one touchdown interception ratio I want to talk about how the best player everyone keeps telling me he's the best player in football right that

man had four turnovers in a playoff game that they lost by three points including one of the worst turnovers we've all ever seen right before the half that's his gift to Denver you guessed it three points so that ends up being the difference in the game I don't have problems with Josh Allen and I said this repeatedly he's an awesome quarterback he's fantastic but I just think the coverage of him is so like just blatantly insane and honestly honestly it's a disservice to Josh that folks feel like they need to treat him with kid gloves it's a disservice to him because tell me the sport where we could have a guy who was universally recognized as the best player in said sport and yet the conversation about him every time his team falls short of winning a championship be that of everyone else tell me the sport without exists we're not doing that to Patrick Mahon in

his sport we're not doing that to Patrick Mahon or Lamar Jackson we're not doing that for Joe Burrow in the NBA Yokech they tried to take his MVP's away because despite him averaging a 30 point triple double in playoff series it wasn't good enough because they weren't winning so tell me the sport where that's allowed the best player can have his worst game at the end of the season come up short of winning a championship and we've got all the excuses in the world now look we're partners with the bills now so we can do a little bit more bills conversation on these but let's just keep it a buck man he he is a great player I don't think he's the best player in the league I don't think he's the best quarterback I still would give that to Mahomes but when you are

and I've talked about this in the past with like Aaron Josh you become a victim of your own success and excellence there is a certain standard we have to hold you to if we're not being disingenuous and for a player to have his team's season end with him crying in the locker room because he knows what it means going forward and then subsequently his coach got fired because he had four turnovers in that playoff game for us to then turn around and blame the defense and have all these excuses I think is ridiculous I think that was well said I will give you that one now I'm going to I had two cuts here that I wanted to play for you regarding the the college football and the pro and professional athletes going back to it issue but in the for the sake of time interest let's just get it right from Nick Sabin because of course he is the

authority on everything college football as he should be there's a zomac of he apparently he went off on the state of college football I mean just think Pat five or ten years ago or even when you played in the league I mean it was not even anything that could ever be a thought in your mind that a pro player would come back and play college football when he was like unfathomable and you know now it should be okay we have some rules some law some lines some state that I should be able to get cut even though I decided to become a pro I got paid some money for it now I can go back college and play crazy I mean it's absolutely crazy couldn't agree more with Nick and this of course comes after yesterday a Louisiana judge and of course it's Louisiana judge cleared the way of Dequan right and Zavian Harris to return to college football after their brief stints in the NFL also what happened yesterday because that's happening at LSU the SEC has sued LSU in the US district court in Alabama alleging the university is violating the league's first amendment right

of expressive association by ignoring SEC rules that prohibits signing in in playing former NFL players tie this is just getting absolutely ridiculous to say this the Ori is perfect because if five years ago time I had told you there would be rule changes that would allow players cut in the NFL to return back to college which coach would scoop him up your number one draft pick for the coach that would sign a player that was cut in the NFL would be who are you gonna say would be Nick Saban no it would be Lincoln oh yeah that that would be it to now yeah you're right like maybe a decade ago Nick Saban would have been the one doing this but currently um giving him infrastructure of college sports we know it's so insane and I was driving home thinking about this the other night

as college football is the second most popular sport in our country behind the NFL and look we love it we we eat it up it's fun and glad to have it back shout out to Rutgers that was an incredible performance last night by the way but it's been a minute since we've been able to just like enjoy college football without all of the other nonsense that comes with it you know expanding the playoffs uh you know NIL and like how do we regulate that the transfer portal and now you have players recently cut from NFL teams being able to go back to college it's so maddening it's it's it's like lunacy and I don't know a person walking the planet that thinks you know what this is a good idea outside of like crazed LSU fans I still find it hard to believe that this is gonna hold up but I do think that at times in order for us to like incite some level of change we need something

extremely ridiculous to happen uh so that it could shake the block and sound alarms and here's what we have it's crazy no one thinks this is a good idea they're a really good NFL players who get cut all the time all the time so if you if early in your career you struggle with something like legal issues and a team is forced to cut you you can then just go back to college this is a process in that sport that wreaks of unseeriness thanks for listening to the Chris Carlin podcast I want my enemies to burn and help catch the show on demand whenever you want just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts so we were recapping like all of the hosts yesterday guest host uh not guest host guest coming on the show who previously hosted on the station just recapping some of the you know their favorite memories that their their journeys to the station and it was a blast some of my stories I couldn't really

publicly articulate just because I don't know if it was a appropriate or not but one thing I will say is as we go to Jimmy and Dix Hills who wants to talk about NFL pros going back to college I remember filling in for Andrew one day on the case show I was not familiar with this town of Dix Hills and so I spelled it incorrectly and we were on yes and so if you remember yes network would would have the uh callers like they would have the graphic of the callers and where they're calling from and I remember uh one of the people in the studio was that hey it's I uh Dix Hills you spelled incorrectly and I was like wow how did I do that what's up Jimmy hey great show as always you talked about uh you know how could this possibly be a good thing and I thought about it and here's where I think it may be a good thing for the student athlete when these guys get caught from the NFL I think a lot of them say like what am I going to do now

football with my life like I have nothing else going on right now not all them but a lot of them they go back to school for free maybe they say you know what I'm going to play hard but I'm also going to get this degree because I'm going to get it for free so the student athlete may benefit from this in a certain way where the school's paying for it I know what it's like to be cut from an NFL and saying now what do I do now maybe I'll finish my degree that's being paid for and then if I do get cut the next time I can use my degree to get a job. No man listen you're trying to sell it and it's not working you have players who participated uh in NFL practices who who have played in NFL games and I believe the rule is you have like a five-year window and those guys get get cut and go now go now play against kids I'm not having it it's I see that you're trying to dress it up to where it can be some advantage like from an educational standpoint now Jimmy I'm not feeling

on that I appreciate the call uh Fernand dad's pulling up from Jersey once to talk about the pros going back to college what's up Fernand dad hey what's up Todd Ferdinand but uh and my thing is that is that you know the way to frame it is because these guys were waiting for a ruling to go back to college to see if they had another year of eligibility so that's the only reason why they're they're trying to get back in the you know go back to college because they went in the NFL camp but if they would have ruled on them before they went to the NFL camp you know they would have the extra year of eligibility so what's your way I see it I mean I don't think that they're going to like like yeah that's how you got it I was going to say so what's your point though my point is like you make it seem like that you got NFL vets going back to college you didn't even NFL vets these guys that were in college that wanted to go back to college but because of their eligibility crisis they couldn't go back and then they ruled it's digit and so now they can go back I mean I know I'm not for it anyway but I'm not putting that up it seemed like NFL vets I'm making it seem like in a five year window if you still have eligibility

you can be on an NFL roster and go back and playing college that's what I'm making it seem like I didn't hear that whole thing I didn't know that you were talking about a five year window I thought yeah that's what it is that's the rule yeah now that's crazy well that's beat no way it's it's ridiculous and no one agrees with it um play dabble the other day said players are waiting on NFL players going back to college it's in barricade we have no rules everyone speaking out against it except of course uh you know your man laying kiffin who can benefit from it going back to college it's it's unprecedented like it's never happened before and we're now making this a rule because of recent court orders come on y'all come on take it's ridiculous thanks for listening to the Chris Carlin podcast I want my enemies to burn and help catch the show on demand whenever you want just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts
