2:05You saw it or you heard Jeff mentioned Australia. And you think I'm a total idiot for saying this, but I'm going to say, of course, I'm going to tune in just to see a little bit of Australia. So there's no one would have been played in Buffalo or who's playing tonight. It is San Francisco and the LA Rams. So I'd be very surprised. Very played in Buffalo. So if this were played in any city in America, you wouldn't watch your only one. I would watch, but you will say, then what does this mean? You asked, okay, hold on. Don't act like an ass after we just had an argument about this. A bitter argument on the phone about this two days ago. Don't start switching up on me. I think you were just as mad at me on the phone. Well, I'm getting mad at you because you're switching up the whole thing about what you were right, what you were talking to me about. Because lime is whole thing is how much is too much football. Lime is a sports talk host who hates the live sports. Apparently all of a sudden too much sports. No, we want to lower the baseball season. We want to reduce the baseball season, reduce the basketball season. Let's have no sports. They've watered it all down. Over. It was perfect for tone. Just done like any of the sports, done like any of the games.

3:10You would ask, I'd mentioned the games in Australia and you said you didn't care. I'm like, well, tune into see what it looks like in Australia. To where apparently that was a, that was just a supreme insult to Anthony Lime, but what I had mentioned that. That was just they've been doing games in other countries for years. They'll show some shots. If you just watch the game, yeah, they'll show you beauty shots from that area. I will tune in to see what it looks like in Australia. You've never seen Australia before? No, well, not personally, not since crocodile. I mean, the wiggles, they do a lot of shooting all over Australia. The last seat, I'm not familiar with the wiggles. I saw Dora the wait. What was the finding Nemo and that ended up in Sydney. That's underwater though. It's true. And it didn't. I don't get to see much of Australia. Did you say was your take with me the other day that people will tune into this just because it's in Australia? I think they might

4:11be a little bit curious and they might tune in for five, 10, 15, whatever minutes. I do not believe what it looks like in Australia. I don't believe why wouldn't they? There would be one more person that would tune into the game because it's Australia. So should you tell post to hear? So should you tell Jeff that he should stop mentioning that the game is in Australia? No, well, the storyline of them getting to Australia. That's been the biggest storyline. The trip, the amount of hours, how there the two teams have diametrically opposing views. That to me is the story in the lead up to the game. Once it's a game, it's football game and we'll see whose theory ended up being right. That's a storyline. Obviously. But if they were just, if this was a green screen and they were really just playing this game in a studio and Hollywood or New York City. Stanley Coobert Moon landing with us. I don't think there would be one more one. I don't think it would matter to any of the fans. One Iota was all room would like to punch you in the teeth. I would say had they actually played this at a time where it was. So it's a 1030 local kickoff. Yeah, like a youth football game. Yes. If they had played it for the prime time,

5:16I Australian audience and it became a 430 AM game for us. I think more people would make a little bit of an effort because the oddity, it's why we like London games. At least we've discussed that on this show. You got a bad. It's 930. You wake up and there is football going. You feel like you're on the West Coast. Yeah, I got a taste of what that's like. I'm like, I can get used to this. This is awesome. That's the Australian thing. It kills it for me because it's just going to be on a time that I normally watch football on a weeknight. It's going to be no different for the fans. They played it two o'clock in the afternoon and we got like it was a day game for a baseball team when you get to get away games, right? Sometimes that's fun. So all those things go into the general interest of a fan tuning in for five to 10 minutes to see a game played in Australia. It's 1030 in the AM over there. How do you get to Australia? Well, you always have to go on a very long flight. There's no short flights to Melbourne, Australia. All right. I've been doing outback steakhouse recently,

6:18but I can't say that the cuisine that I'm sure they're going to show in the B-roll is anything like it. So I'm sure that like it's it is the reason they do it is to draw general. I want to see how many people actually made the trip. I'm going to see how many people are dying the wool, Rams 49ers fans are like, I'm going to Australia. We're going on vacation to Australia to go see my favorite team play football like when people say they're going to London to see the Browns, which I would never go to Europe or Australia to see an NFL game, but there's plenty of people who do it. So I know I'm in the minority there. So if I'm in the minority there, I would imagine that there's going to be several people tonight who tune in just to see what it's like to see a football game in Australia, which you're right. It's not like it's going to be 120 yards long and 60 yards wide. It's going to be the same dimensions, but it's held in a cricket stadium. I think the first part of your sentence is right. There will be people tuning in because there's football tonight. Then you added because Australia. Why would that change anybody's your football fan? You're watching it like regardless of where you're going to tune in and you're not going to

7:20want to see any part of Australia. You don't care. You do not care at all. No, that's all I'm saying. Show it. It has no bearing on whether I'm going to watch the game and that was your initial premise is that people will be tuning in because it's in Australia. And I'm saying there's zero evidence to back that up. What's the point even having the games out there if people aren't going to tune in just to see like when I was a kid. This isn't for us. When I was a kid. This isn't for fans in the United States. It's not what they do with it. They still want our eyes to watch that. If anything, all the 49er fans, all the Rams fans are mad. They're mad. This game is being played. But you still want people to see it. If it's for people overseas who live in different time zones, why wouldn't they do it in their time zones? Exactly. Like this is not the NBA playoffs in the United States. They're trying to expand the footprint of the NFL. That's why. That's why. That's why. Yes. They got their own football down there and over there. They have their own football in Europe down under I believe. Down on why they play any games in Europe. But it's not for us. It's to expand the brand. And that's that's the debate right now between. Did you see the spat between the is it the president of the Rams? He was going after the 49ers writer, whatever,

8:26the 49ers guy was saying, you guys don't care about expanding the sport. And he's like, because they're only going for a day, they're not spending. They're not meeting people. They're not talking to ambassadors. It's like the Rose Bowl like the link up. Yeah. That's what the NFL wants. That the NFL wants wants the people on the ground there to embrace the sport. Remember, like when the calves went to Paris two years ago, three years and they went like three days early and they did a bunch of convention type of things before the game made the game kind of suck really. But I would expect there'd be more convention to it for potential. It's the Europe stuff, though. At least you have the travel is so much easier if you live in other country. I mean, who's I'll show you what else are you connected to that you can get there easily. Well, we're in a different area. Nothing. Well, I don't know. I'm flying from any of the other islands in the Pacific to go watch football in Australia. I'm not watching the NFL. That's even a, I mean, even for people in Thailand. Yeah. It's a journey. Yes. If it happens, I mean,

9:32if I have another atmosphere, if I happen to be there, then fine, I'll go, but I'm not going to make these special trips just for the NFL. But my whole thing is, is you're not wrong. I'm not saying it's not about your right about the expansion brand. But I'm either the only guy who tuned into preseason football in Tokyo just to see what it was like in the Tokyo dome. Like the only person maybe I was trying to watch. I was covered. But I'm five years younger than you and they did it like four whatever years in a row. I found myself tuning in just to see what it looked like in in Tokyo. It just seems to me that it's kind of the same wherever it is, not in this country. It's just a bunch of fans that are cause playing whatever team they've decided to root for as a diehard fan of that team. So they get their face painted. I do wear the jerseys. I have no idea who the players are on the team. And they're like, yeah, yeah. In Europe, you see a ton of jerseys from teams that are not there. That even there. Yeah. So I wonder if it's going to be less of that in Australia.

10:33And more of the two specific teams because there's I mean, there's a smaller pool to pool from as far as getting people in, you know, expats, especially. I'm sure there's enough to fill up a stadium there of expats, but it's not in the millions like it is in Europe. That's true. They're both popular teams. I don't think there should be any empty seats. But I just kind of want to see what it looks like in Australia. You got five million people that live in Melbourne. There's five million people live in Sydney. It's like four hours apart. So there's 10 million. I mean, there's enough fans. I'm guessing in 80,000 seats, they cricket's pretty expansive. Yeah. Be kind of far away from the sidelines. They'll be like, old municipal. Well, you said, okay, the cricket thing that may be the way to pull me closer to you, like when they play these games in the soccer stadiums, like, all right, I want to see what that looks like. But that's a, that's an interest for like three minutes. That's a football.

11:34Well, is a cricket stadium going to end up being like the, the design then for the future, like the soccer, like that's a soccer stadium over there in Buffalo. I mean, you know, you know, damn, well, that's a premier league soccer stadium over there in Buffalo. It looks exact. If you didn't know, it's in Buffalo, you would say that that's in whatever end of London. I don't, I never been over there. You figured out someone called Paul Brown and tell me which end, but that would look like somewhere over there in London. So I don't want it to turn into that, but maybe they're trying to find ideas. I'm sure it's all there. When they play a college football game, that first time it wriggly, you know, or Fenway or Yankee Stadium, like, all right, you've got, did see what that's like and sometimes for the wrong reasons, it's like, oh, they have to switch sides of the field. There's not enough room in the back of the against them. That's kind of a disaster. All right. That I'm, I'm, I'm tuning in to see how the teams deal with that. But I don't know is the cricket stadium any different? Are we expecting that to be an issue?

12:34It seems to be cricket. It's a pretty. It's an issue in 2026, but you never, you never expect games to get canceled because the paint wasn't right and things like that. Oh, when they play the basketball game or the first time they tried to play one on a ship. Remember, and then it got canceled because it was just too wet. That famous Rams chiefs game that was like 60 to 50 or whatever it was supposed to be in Mexico City. And then the turf wasn't right. And they ended up just playing it in L.A. There is going to be plenty of room there. I just did a cricket field compared to a football field. You will have plenty of space to explore at the cricket stadium. I knew it was pretty big. Well, we did see there was a little bit of news yesterday with the Browns offensive guard, Kevin Jenkins, having to leave the field. And what does that mean for this offensive line? Well, he ended up being limited with

17:50So that's something to keep an eye on. If he's not back in practice today, then I think you have to assume that perhaps there will be two rookies starting on the offensive line. Tall order against the Jaguars. Mary Kay Kavah joining us here on the Wise Heart Write. We make a write call Kyle right hotline. I said that I think we can win on Sunday. Excuse me. I picked us to win on Sunday. A lot of people ask, and why and I gave my reasons why big part of it is that week one tends to be sloppy. I think it was even proven last night with 17 penalties between the two and 150 yards. Mary Kay, what do you think about that? Well, I certainly think it's possible. We have no idea yet what this offense is going to look like. We don't know how it's going to come together. We don't know how to shine. Watson is going to perform. We don't know how this new offensive line is going to work and function together. And now as I mentioned, there might be two rookies on it. So I think it will be tough. I think it'll be very, very tough to win this football game against a team that went 13 and 4 last year.

18:51But once again, anything can happen on game day. And it's the first week of the season. And if you catch a team in a week moment, maybe you can go out there and steal one. Well, I agree with you on that. You know, the offensive line, obviously, that's going to be a concern. It's not because, you know, it was not great last year, but you got five new guys there. You're, you're, you got to get them all moving in the same direction. I think it's going to be a little bit difficult there. So George Warholp has his work cut out for him. So until they go out there and they move better, I can't say they haven't improved the offensive line. But I also think about the other parts where, you know, there's talent there, but they're just so thin. And it's why, you know, a lot of people, they think I eight wins, nine wins, 10. And I'm like, I take them for five wins. But I think that they can still be a team that at the end of the season has a bright future because of the talent that they do have. I think there's a range. I think there's a range of games that they can win this year. And I think it's probably somewhere in between six and nine is

19:53basically the way that I'm seeing it now. And in a perfect world, in a perfect world, if they get better quarterback play, then most of us believe they're going to get this season, then maybe they could even stretch that a little bit. But I think it's somewhere in between there, depending on how things go, they do have plenty of talent on this football team on both sides of the ball. And really on the offensive side, it's just a matter of Ken Dishon or Ken Shedur pull it all together. All right. Does seem right now, Mary Kay talking to anybody within Northeast Ohio that the approval rating of the Dishon Watson experience so far through camp and getting named the starter. Not very high on obviously we know about the things that he said and seemed like he was going at it with the fans and whether there was an apology putting all that aside. Do you see any kind of pathway to where Dishon Watson kicks off the season and plays good football, good quarterback play that we actually see that out of him in this offense? Well, I do think there is a way that

20:59that can happen. But I think it's going to probably look maybe a little bit ragged in the beginning. These guys haven't worked together enough. If Todd Munkin can devise a game plan where Dishon Watson can feel confident, can feel comfortable, can find some early completions, they can utilize his legs, rely some on the running game, although this is the number one ranked run defense from last season. That's going to be hard to run the ball on these guys. But if they can get some things going early on, if that first script goes pretty well and Dishon can kind of get into the zone and you can see that and you can feel that with him. We haven't seen it very much since he's been in Cleveland. But if he can get into that kind of place, then perhaps things can go better than people expect in the first two games of the season and then maybe he does have a chance to come back here and try to continue to build on that. But it's got to go pretty well in these first two weeks. And I think it's going to be difficult. So what you're kind of saying, maybe you agree with

22:02me because I think Brods fans actually do hold a lot of power in whether or not he plays in week three. Because I mean, he's already admitted that the fans are in his head. And if he doesn't play well in the first two games, I don't think you can bring him back because then I can't make an argument that he's going to be the best option for my 53 man roster. If he's preoccupied with the fans, I think he'll get in his own head and then cost himself and cost us. Well, I mean, I think it's pretty obvious that that the fans got in his head the last time out, that the fans are definitely a factor in his mind. Now in Todd's mind, no, Todd doesn't believe that he should let the fans dictate what happens even in week three. But it really is up to Dishon. He's got to go out there in those first two weeks and he just has to play well himself. Now he can't control what everybody around him is going to be doing to a certain extent. The rookies are going to have to come up the learning curve. If you have two rookies on the offensive line, they're going to have to have their growing pains. So I think for any quarterback that would be thrown

23:05in there in these first two weeks on the road with Silent Counts with all the new pieces and parts working together with new terminology, I think there will be growing pains. I think it would have been that way for Shredor. I think it will be that way for Dishon. I always felt and I set it way back. I thought that starting 11 should be working together from the start of OTAs, whether if they felt that Shredor was ahead, roll with him, if they felt Shredor Shon was ahead, roll with him. And it just didn't work out that way. And I just have to wonder how it's going to look in these first few weeks. Yes, been four years, Mary Kay that you've been covering Dishon Watson. And we know for the first two and a half three, we're really up until recently, weren't a lot of availability, other than, you know, when he played the week of and post game press conferences. Do you think he's the same person we talked so much about whether Baker Mayfield has matured over time over there? What about what you've seen since he's been here to Shon Watson? Well, generally it's like that with most quarterbacks that you just have them on Wednesday and then

24:11you have them again on game day. And unless it was Tim couch back in the day, most of the time you don't get those quarterbacks many other times. So that is not unusual whatsoever. They protect those guys, in my opinion, too much just from talking to the media and having conversations where you can actually develop some kind of rapport with them. But I do think that that he's been, of course, very, you know, very bothered by just the whole reaction to him and the vitriol and all that gets to him. Now Baker Mayfield, he's different. Baker would, you know, sort of stick the proverbial middle finger up and just move forward and use it as fuel and all those kind of things. I think the fan reaction to Dishon Watson has been a huge factor in, you know, in his development and in his play. And it's something he's going to have to be able to deal with on September 27th. Are we past, I don't know if we are, but I got to ask, are we past comparing Spencer Fano or any

25:16left tackle to Joe Thomas? Has it been long enough? No, I don't think so because they haven't been able to find a suitable replacement for him since then. So no, we're not past that point. And especially because, you know, Joe still comes around. He still helps these guys. And, you know, he is, he is the standard. And I know that the bar is very, very high for anybody coming after him. But when you've had someone like Joe, then you will always compare the rest to him. All right, Mary Kay, we had that story come out. Tom Pellissaro reference that the Buffalo bills had made a call on miles Garrett. Right now, is that all we really know is that the Rams bills and what did you make of that coming out right for the season started? You know, I didn't make too too much of it. I can't imagine that, that there are any teams that wouldn't want to have miles Garrett and a lot more phone calls get made and a lot more inquiries get made than,

26:17then we know about even around, you know, cut down day this year, there I'm sure there were some calls made on, on different players and, and whatnot. So it doesn't surprise me. It's miles Garrett. You just have to have the money and the draft capital. And if you feel like you can come up with something like that, then of course you would touch your hat into that ring. So, well, then, do you think they should have been more considerate of other offers then? Is that the case? Well, in this situation, they have been working on it for a long time and they were aiming and gearing towards getting Jared verse back. And so unless you have something like that to offer, you're not necessarily really going to be in the game. And so far, as you can probably, if you read the story that I wrote this morning, little plug there, then you can kind of see the wisdom in bringing Jared verse under the football team. And I don't know if there's anybody else in the NFL that would have been able to knit together this defense in the aftermath of the loss of

27:21miles Garrett and Jim Schwartz, the way that he has. What is going to be his challenge for the season? I mean, I know you gave kind of a law of a wide range of outcomes that they could have, but I, you know, I'd pick in five, Lyme is picking four. That means that there's going to be significant challenges as this season goes on to keep people bought in. What's that challenge for Jared verse? Well, I do think it will be hard for someone coming from a team like the Rams and then all of the sudden experiencing a team that might not win very many games. But I do think that the defense is going to play well. And that's why when I look at four, that seems low to me. I mean, that seems low. This is just, it's the easiest schedule in the NFL going by records from last season. I just don't see four. I think that's pretty low. I think they're going to win more games than that. I would bet the over, which again, I think is still 5.5. But I think it's going to be tough on these guys and it's going to take a lot of leadership to get them through the tough times. And

28:25they're going to all have to remember that this is arguably, I think it is numerically the youngest team in the NFL. The future, I think, is bright. But this might just not be the year where they're contending for the Super Bowl. You know, part of the formula, Mary K that I came up with in having such a low total of wins before the season is that they're missing two of the most valuable guys that they had last year, which was Jim Schwartz and Miles Garrett. How do you think that defense is going to look? And you think it's going to take some time, even though schematically, they've talked about how the front will kind of be the same what they do with them. That it could take some time for them to play in a new system. Yeah, I think it will take a little bit of time, but they're using the same terminology. They have the same position coaches and they have the same attack-minded philosophy. So they didn't reinvent the wheel here. What they're challenged by is the fact that once again, they lost 23 sacks from Miles Garrett. They lost another five from Alex Wright. So your top two ed rushers are not here and it was hard to fill those positions. Jared Versa, I think,

29:30you know, he's got some growing and learning to do to get to the point where he can end up with double digit sacks consistently. So I think there will be some challenges there, but Rudy's just going to have to be really creative to find those sacks elsewhere. They can get them from the interior. I still think it's going to be a very, very good defense and the place where they can make their hey in my opinion is in takeaways. It's a great equalizer and if they start off with those, they will be fine. Have you ever been to Australia, Mary Kay? I have not been to Australia. You're a world traveler. I'm actually surprised. I thought you were going to get us into a story about the time you did go to Australia. That's interesting to me. Sorry. I'm sorry. Yeah. Do you think people do you think people will tune in just to see the curiosity of a game being played in Australia? Do you think that that's part of the reason people will tune in? That might be part of it, but I'm not really sure about that because you don't get much of the culture of the country or the city, you know, necessarily during the game itself. So I think it's

30:34really more about football at that point, but certainly there's a lot of pageantry and what not going on around the game, but I don't think that translates necessarily to the broadcast. We can try to move the ball and get points. Well, let me ask you are people attacking him for saying he's passed the Buffalo game or are they criticizing? Because I think I'm in a position with a defender going on. Which button you hear it in a one clip instance, it sounds like he has forgotten anything that happened associated with that Buffalo preseason game and that he doesn't remember the booing and getting mad afterwards. And the press conference that he had directly after that Buffalo game where his performance was not good. But then you hear him just say the Jaguars were really good down the stretch last year. One eight of nine and almost beat Buffalo. And that is followed up by this. It's been a while since that Buffalo game out of your mind. Which Buffalo game? Preseason.

37:58He was just talking about them playing Buffalo. So he watched them play Buffalo. So he's saying which Buffalo game? I don't think that the Buffalo game that the preseason game is out of his mind. I think it's plausible that he was so fixated on the reaction. He was getting, he kind of forgot the who the hell he was playing. Which doesn't bode well for the future. But that's up to him. That's out up to me. I'm trying to I'm doing everything I can to make sense of all this. So I'm not going to rip him not yet anyway for any of that other stuff. Yeah, it's absolutely possible. He was just in his press conference. He does his weekly appearance. They asked him about that. He's definitely watched the Buffalo tape of the playoff game. Why wouldn't you ask and feel Buffalo Jacksonville Buffalo in tape? Hopefully he did not rewatch that Buffalo preseason game because I don't think there was anything to glean out of that. Yes. And then Tony asked him about excuse me, somebody asked him about the Buffalo game. He's like, well, which Buffalo game? We might not know right off the top of his head. I've done that to you. So play a time in conversation. The only explanation for what happened at all in that Buffalo game that I try to come

39:02up with. No problem. And it's the only thing that you could hope and pray if you want to shout on Watson to do well this year. And you want the Browns to be good. And this still is not going to make anybody feel better. In fact, it'll probably make people feel worse is that he went out there in the third quarter. Remember, there was an hour delay. Should already already done his thing. He thinks in his mind, he already won the starting job, which he might have, right? Like looking back. I think he yeah, right. So I told you, it's not going to make you feel better. But did he put anything into that Buffalo game? I think he went out there thinking he was going to hand the ball off and get out of there. They were going to shorten that game. And he had already won the quarterback competition. And instead he's sitting there on third down, trying to make plays. And it went

40:05terribly. He played awful. I think everybody in the building, including himself might have been surprised that he was actually going out there in the third quarter because I, when they had the rain delay and everything, I go, no, they're not putting them out there. I swear, I thought he wasn't going to play. I was surprised. Yes. Again, it sounds like an excuse. It is it. It's terrible. It doesn't make me feel any better about to show Watson. I guess I would write if I, if you're Todd munkin out the Fenton munkin on this, you'd rather keep a guy playing who you told was going to play, then have to tell two guys that you didn't think they were going to play and you told we're not going to play. Hey, you got to go suit up like that. We did that with Doryn Thompson Robinson in a game that mattered once. And then he really suited up too. Yes, he did. And student. I thought of that as I said that to you. Well, and then the next part of that is wait a second. You said it was a quarterback competition. Then you didn't even play to Sean Watson in that game. Yeah. So you had this thing all lined up, which is kind of what I think anyway, after after I'm not saying he has my made up at the beginning of camp or anything that, you know, I think he was leaning that direction. I think he was leaning that way. Yes. And

41:07nothing that happened in that Buffalo game was going to change anybody's view in terms of the coaching staff. I agree. It was going to change any view. No matter how well she should or played. And he did. He played really well. Two one six four seven four to below 92. Can I just play something real quick here? Yeah. All right, Mick, because I want to ask you if I'm being too sensitive. Hit it. No, I don't think so because they haven't been able to find a suitable replacement for him. So no, we're not past that point. And especially because Joe still comes around. He still helps these guys. He is the standard. I know that the bar is very, very high for anybody coming after him. But when you had someone like Joe, then you will always compare their rest to him. I asked the question about comparing Spencer Fawno to Joe Thomas and not doing it. I don't think you can. And I don't want to. It's been almost a decade since Joe's played. Like do we keep comparing? We might have. Do we keep comparing on running backs to Kevin Mac and Ernest Biner? Or did we kind of like, okay, we just need a good running back.

42:12And then when Nick Chubb was good enough running back, he was so good. It's like, all right, you're Mac and Biner. Oh, you're really Jim Brown now. Like this is something else. Like, can we just be like, we need a good lot left tackle? They're, they come from a different cloth. One is a classic left tackle. The other one can play in a lot of spots across the office. I mean, I think, you know, after Ozzy, I think it was always, can we find a tight end? You get spoiled into these things. And Joe Thomas, I mean, the reality is, Kenny, I think you know this. What are the odds we ever have anything approaching? Not anybody is good at him. I'm saying approaching where he was so dominant, so tough on. There was like one guy every year that would get the best of him. And it wasn't even a great elite player. It was always somebody that just matched up in an interesting way that he kind of struggled with that if he had more tape on him, he probably would have dominated. Well, there was nobody's coming close to that the rest of our lives. And the reason I ask you is because I don't want to keep making the comparison. Again, it's been 10 years, almost 10 years, been almost a decade. You do yourself into service. Jed Willes did not do himself any favors,

43:15but the constant scrutiny in comparison that I was absolutely complicit in. The constant comparison to Joe, I don't think helped any matters whatsoever. Like there's, there can only be one Joe Thomas. There could only be one Jim Brown until there's a guy that's a comparable player. And I, it does it. It's not going to do me any good to sit there on Sunday. Oh, Joe, what a man. I know that like that's not going to help out anything at all. And it's unrealistic for me to do that. And I think it's unfair. I didn't realize my credibility was on the line. I didn't realize that any credibility in the first place when I tell you that the Browns are going to win on Sunday.
