We're not making it a topic, but we do report the news. This is breaking news out of Washington. The US Supreme Court has just rejected Missouri Republicans request to use a new congressional map. So there was a mid census revision of the congressional map that has been thrown out. By the US Supreme Court, I didn't catch everything that they said during the ABC newscast at the top of the hour.

2:04But apparently it was rejected by the Supreme Court without comment. Did I hear that right? That's correct. They just denied to take it up, which then of course sends it back down to the lower courts ruling. The Missouri Supreme Court ruled that the changing of the maps was unconstitutional. We are reverting back to the 2022 map for the general election in November, where it's now sticky and confusing and doesn't really make any sense is that constituents voted for their primary candidate. And now when they go to the general election ballot are going to see a totally different name because they're at a different district. They're back in the original district that we're in before the map changed. But in early August, we had people along the truest corridor voting for the district that also encompassed Harrisonville. The forced district. Yeah, it's just it's really confusing. But Jackson County said last week after the Missouri Supreme Court ruling that they will be ready.

3:05What that means, I don't even think they know. But so I'm a little bit confused here and this is interesting political mystery. What happens to the people who lost in their primary who could have or should run in a different district? I'm thinking of Hartzel Gray who ran in the fourth and barely lost where he really wanted to run against a manual cleaver in the democratic primary. You mentioned Hartzel, I think that he would have and his fair to argue had a much bigger chance in a place like Kansas City because of his name recognition here. I think that it hurt him in the primary having his name pop up on a ballot. And he's barely lost. Yeah. Huh. So there we go. So it's a win. However, it's a win for Democrats dot dot dot. What do you do if you are on the losing end of that and my guess is there's nothing you can do really?

4:07It's a loss for all of us. They're not going to be in the end of the day. But Sam is what the heck is going on? Last thing I'm going to say about this, you start messing with the maps under one administration. We're just going to mess with the maps under the next administration. And then it's going to go around and around and around and around. No one wants to go down that road. It already did go on both sides. California redid the maps. I know it. I think Illinois redid their maps. If I'm not mistaken, knock it off. What I'm saying is knock it off that they need to. I can't believe I'm going to say these words. They need to pass a federal law that says you can only redraw congressional maps on census years. So 2020, 2030, 2040, 2050. None of this mid census. Let's call it what it is. Jerry Mandering. Well, it's all so convoluted. I mean, if you really dig into the weeds of it, the reason I think California was the first one to do it was because the map that they proposed from the 2020 census had been denied year after year after year.

5:11So then they finally approved it and that made headlines. And so everybody around the country, certain people, maybe in the administration, were like, well, they're doing it. We're going to do it too. Now we're getting way too much into the politics of it. I do stand behind my statement of this is a loss for all of us because what is going on? We need some sort of levity here. Well, and somebody just wrote in on the text line and they're right. I voted for a manual cleaver in knob, noster. It makes no sense. This map that the Supreme Court within the past few minutes has rejected. And so now we're going back to the congressional map that we had before. And not the new one that the general assembly put forward from the New York Post earlier this year, the post reported with great horror that Hollywood has made smoking cool again, despite all the very real health risks, but being a cool social smoker outside of a bar with a cigarette between your fingers. It seems is not the same as being a social butterfly.

6:14According to new research, smoking actually leads to increased loneliness. Ooh, I don't disagree. Number one, a lot of people do it in secret because now it's a dirty thing and I don't really want people to do it. And number two, you're going out alone on a smoke break. No, break it work with that. I mean, no one's joining. It used to be a communal thing. I don't think it's a communal thing anymore. No, I saw somebody here at the office outside smoking one. It's one. Yeah. No matter the age or gender, current smokers were found to be lonelier than non-smokers. We're still smokers also experienced larger increases in loneliness over time. One theory as to why this is is age. The average age of research participants was 67. So younger people are not smoking. They're vaping. Are they saying they're lonely because their friends died sooner? I'm confused. What?

7:17Probably because so few people smoke. After the age of 60, you're not really going out to the bars every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. You're probably staying at home alone smoking. Hmm. I mean, smoke. Anymore. How long did you and how old were you? Not very long. I was a freshman at college. I smoked a little bit in high school. Because you thought it was cool. It was cool back then. I mean, you were sort of the rebel. But it didn't go well when I was playing football and baseball. So it never really took until I went to Nebraska. I mean, when I was smoked there, college, all of my friends were in the service industry. It was the communal thing. You'd go out to the bar and hang out and everybody went out and unison to go smoke. And I'm just standing there like, okay, did you ever smoke? No. You never smoke to cigarette in your life. Far too afraid of being coming addicted to it. I mean, I'd probably, well, I say probably I know for a fact I had a few drunk, but outside of that now.

8:18Dana smoked one. One. No, not even the full thing. Well, it was a Virginia slim. I lit it and I tried it. And then I hurt my mom walking in because I was walking in. So I threw it across the room, hoping it would land in the sink and it did. But it didn't go down the drain. So the little thing was still wafting up. You could see the little smoke. That was in her cigarette pack. Oh, yeah. Okay. They were smokers back in the day. Like you wouldn't even believe. And she came in and she was like, hey, whatever it was. Can you come out with this? And she goes, is something burning? Teenagers are such bad liars. I would have been, God, we were still in the house on the hill. I would have been 16 or 17 tops. Probably close to the 15. Did you even know how to smoke like to how to inhale? No, she goes, is something burning? And I go toast. Now, no, I'm toast. I wait. I hadn't made toast. I don't even know if we had bread in the house.

9:18I, that was it. That was the one and done. Never doing that again. Both of my, my parents smoked. My dad quit later in life before he died, obviously. My mother. Tough to quit after. It is very tough to quit after. My mother continued to smoke. And she had some health problems when she was like 53, 54, which is to say she had a heart attack. A mild one, but a heart attack nonetheless. And I remember, my dad had passed by this point if I remember correctly. And I drove her home from the hospital and she went upstairs and there was still a pack of cigarettes on the kitchen table. Yeah. And the first thing she did was sit down and pull out a cigarette. Yeah. And I'm standing there looking at her. I mean, my mom was in her, her mid 50s and I'm looking at my mom. I go, what are you doing? And she looks at me and she goes, it's my goodbye cigarette. And I ran over to the kitchen table. Oh, well, it is. Grab that cigarette out of her mouth and crushed it. And she never smoked again.

10:19My mom hasn't had a cigarette over 30 years. I did vape. We're honest on this program. I did vape. How long? Longer to way too long. See, I've never done that. I was afraid it would like blow up in my mouth. I literally, I decided I had to quit because I would wake up in the middle of the night and the vape was in my hand. Oh, yeah, that's the time. That's the one. Like, I would wake up, you know, you half wake up and do something. Most people take a drink of water if you're a vapor. And I'm sure it's true for most people who vape. That drink of water is a rip off the old vape stick. Is it expensive? Insanely. Really? I told you one of the kids vaped for probably a year or more. And it was because all of his roommates did it. And he said, we'll be sitting around, playing video games, doing whatever, and everybody was vaping. The next semester, he ended up roaming with, and I think he requested. He ended up roaming with two or three of his buddies that did not vape. Yeah, okay. And he said it like that. He said I was able to quit that because it's so, um,

11:20Well, then he wasn't really addicted to that. Communal and he said it's so just something to do when you're all sitting around. He said the minute you're around three other guys that now don't vape. He said it, the fixation was not there for him. Well, what are you going to say in that room? Hey, guys, do you mind if I vape? No, I don't want you to look like a dragon in our room. The weird thing for me is that it wasn't the nicotine that made it hard to quit vaping. It was literally the hand of mouth. Like, what do I do with my hands? It's the fixation of it. I'm going outside and be like, okay, well, this is when I vape. I don't have a vape. What do I do? What am I supposed to do with the next 34 seconds? And then eventually you just get over it. Nicotine is a bear to try to quit. It is a bear. 913-586-779-8. 913-586-779-8. 913-586-779-8. You just love this tennis, don't you? No. I might have told my daughter to tape it so I can watch it when I get home. What? When did this, I've known you for almost two decades.

12:22When did this fascination with tennis come about? I would like to request that you watch one match with Coco Gough and one match with TFO. It is the most athletic. How do they do that? I played pickleball yesterday, Scott. I came home. I have icy hot all over me. I have TheraGund. I've got nine ibuprofen in me. I thought I'd been hit by a car. And then you watch these athletes compete at that level. I don't even understand how they're doing what they're doing outside in front of all of those people. It's beautiful to watch. What did you do to yourself? I think I pulled a groin muscle. Playing pickleball in doors. Well, that doesn't make the groin any stronger. Oh my gosh, Sam. Do you know what I'm like? Are you for no room if you're groin? I actually asked a tennis person last night. Do you think any of us could get a racket on a serve from a professional tennis player? No. And before it even came out of my mouth, he goes, no.

13:23No. They're serving like 120 miles an hour. You wouldn't even see that ball go past you. It's that fast. You'd feel it if it hit you. Well, you would. You couldn't hit a major league fastball. None of us could. Could you get a bat on it? No. When I was in my 20s, I went to a batting cage in Lawrence. And I put the spedometer, if you will, at 80 miles per hour. That's it. Just to see. And I played baseball in high school. Yeah. I wasn't awful. I mean, I was athlete of the week one time. I'm not saying. Okay. Well, I was. I never even saw the 80 mile per hour fastball go past me. Never even saw it. There goes. Yes. I put it. I had like 10 balls that I paid for. I saw that first one. Well, I didn't see it. And I just grabbed my bat and went home. You heard it. I knew it. Then there were nine more that must have come out. And I never even saw it. I just went home. 913-586-777-98. Here on Dana Park.

16:33Live golf has filed for bankruptcy. As it attempts to reach the reach. Shocking, say no one ever. Restructure and restart what it called its next chapter. Live golf chief executive Scott O'Neill said in a statement that he believed deeply in the future of the tour. Which plans to quote begin its new era in early 2027. I thought they had basically conceded defeat to the PGA. If there's any new era, I don't know what they're talking about. Okay, have all the golfers who had gone to live come back? I do not know that they have figured out a path forward from those who walked away. They are still playing live golf every single Saturday and Sunday. I see it on my local news channel. You're the only one watching it. I don't watch it, but I see it. Who are the big names that went to live? Oh, Scott, there are so many. The chanbro. Like, you know, culture, like there are big names that left. And are I don't know that all of them are just going to be welcomed back because they took the money and ran.

17:34When others did not take the money and yes, I do. And here's why they were all multi-beginners. Tiger Woods turned it down. Multi multi multi multi millionaires. Well, and let's be honest, here's the deal. If they want to come back and they hit the white ball with the stick pretty well and they're entertaining, they're going to be invited back. Yeah. I mean, you need the chanbro, right? To bow. They know he's already been invited back. He's already playing in PGA events again, which I think right now he's playing in both. Uh, he did have to pay reportedly many, many, many, many, many millions of dollars back to be able to do that. But I don't know how they're going to figure that out as the short answer. A story here from the New York Post with back to school season in full swing college campuses are once again packed with welcome backbashes, football games and fraternity events. But according to one viral video today's ragers are a far cry from animal house. Are you familiar with these darts?

18:34Sam. So darts were all the rage when I was in college. And yeah, we dartied all the time. A darts party. A day party. It meant that you started the beer pong and the jungle juice up at 9 30, 10 o'clock in the morning. Can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning. You take a nap at two, three p.m. Get up and go out to the bars at night. That is a dirty. What they're doing is they're drinking day drinking, but exercising. So this is the new trend with the darts. And I have not seen it anywhere other than this New York Post story, but allegedly. It's called a wellness darts. No, it's not. If you go to the college campuses, allegedly, according to this New York Post story, you will see a bunch of co-eds on the front lawn of a frat house doing yoga. Yeah. Yeah. Well, we need to stay lumber people. What do we do? And then they go for a group run. Of course. No, I'm not kidding. They do yoga and some stretching. Stop it. I was about to get my mild death. They get drunk and then they go for a run. It's called a wellness darts.

19:35Wait, they so they still get drunk. Who has ever gone drinking and then thought, gosh, you know what I want to do? I want to work out. The answer is no one. Well, apparently it's Gen Z on the college campus of America. You go Gen Z and Pratt of you. King Charles said in a letter that Prince Harry and his wife Megan remain private citizens and will have no official royal duties. Okay. Thanks, Dad, in a letter. Don't you remember? You couldn't ring me up and just let me know that. Don't you remember if you had watched the crown you would know this? That when Prince Charles wanted to see his mother growing up, he had to make an appointment. And there were multiple times that her handler said she's too busy to see you. So I don't always fault him for his very aloof behaviors because of the sort of bizarre universe that he grew up in. Can we stop acting like the royals actually have real jobs?

20:35Because they do a lot of charitable work. They they they controls does charitable work. I do believe that they do. Okay. Remember Diana and the landmines member? I remember her. Yes. Doing that. The TSA has launched a new program that allows some people without a plane ticket to go through airport security. Wait, can we go back real quick to the royal family? Are we surprised that they didn't welcome him back? He literally smeared their name as he kicked the door shut behind him saying I don't want to be part of this family anymore. They called him spare to his face. I'm not saying what he did was wrong. I'm just saying that there is love lost here. I don't want to. You just say him for right about that. Anyone that grows up thinking I want to be a prince or a princess someday. You need to realign your goals with. Well, he didn't grow up thinking that he was born that way. Yeah, but I'm just saying like, you know, I think when we were growing up, I want to be a princess someday. No, you don't. Not in that family.

21:36Not in anything. Well, I would like the king of Norway died last week of the week prior. The king of Norway can walk down a street in New York and nobody's going to know he's the king of Norway. Okay. So I'll take all that money. The yacht. Yep. The yacht, the private plane, all of that stuff. If I get to be like the king of the Netherlands or the king of Norway because no one knows who you are. I read the story about the king of Norway dying last week. I can't remember his name anymore. Until you're the prince of whatever one of those Nordic countries who was accused of. It's always when it's a scandal horrific crime. Yeah, you know their names when there's a scandal. So the TSA is launching a new program that allows some people without a plane ticket to go through airport security. It's called gate side by PSA pre check. That's too clunky. It is clunky. Gate side is currently available at 13 airports across the United States. Kansas City is not one of them, but LA is Dallas.

22:38Why would you go through if you had a kid who was who was flying. I could see that. That's the or an elderly family member. Okay. Who might need some assistance just getting to the gate. And they don't want that card that goes, going through the terminal. I'll tell you this on our last flight home, there were so many people needing assistance. And I'm not saying they didn't. I should not do air quotes around that. But there were so many people needing assistance that they made an announcement when the plane landed. That all of their wheelchairs that the airport were in use. And so please, you know, just wait your turn. And then we will have a wheelchair and a. Were there really that many people that Scott there was an announcement made as the plane landed. That if you require assistance, there's a backup if you will. And you remember the time a flight attendant called in and said we call those people Jetway Jesus. We call them the Jetway Jesus people. Oh, yes. Because they ask for the wheelchair because they cannot get from point A to point B.

23:41Yeah. And the minute they get to the plane itself. To the plane itself. I'm here. I'm here. Jetway Jesus. So funny. 913-586-779-8 586-779-8. 24:42As I was reading that story about gate pass that the TSA is set up at LAX and DFW, et cetera. And I said, Kansas City is not on the list. And as I'm reading that, I'm thinking to myself, I thought they had some sort of a gate pass that you could sign up for, you know, request an application for whatever. And a texture rightly points out, Kansas City does have it, but Kansas City does not use the TSA. Yeah, their contractors are whatever. So one of like, I think only four in the nation, which was why when there was the TSA work stoppage, Kansas City was completely unaffected. So you don't travel a ton, not like every week out of the year. We don't travel for work, but you are probably on an airplane. Would you not say six times a year? Three round trips.

25:42Two to three. Two to three. So Jamie Monticelli had mentioned this when it first, this clear TSA clear program first started that it would save you time. And she's signed up for it because she travels all the time and you would really enjoy it. And this is like the pre-check thing. This is yeah, you see the signs that say clear. We did it because we were traveling at an airport where there was a little bit of a law in the action, if you will. And someone came over to us and said, hey, have you guys signed up for clear yet? And we said, no, tell me again what this is about. And we signed up on the spot. And one of the things they said was, I think it's $250. I'd have to go back and look. But if you have an American Express, it's free. Oh, that's not entirely true. You have to have a specific type of American Express. So check that out before you do it. Even if we had known at the time, it was $250 and we were not going to be reimbursed, we would have done it.

26:45So is this the same thing as TSA pre-check or whatever? No, I don't know how to contract it. I don't know what to call it. You walk in and everyone that is in that snaked line, just inching along, inching along. You go ahead of everybody. You go to a different little line where there is no one there. There are three workers just standing there and they go, uh, hello, Ms. Wright, stand in front of this camera. Yep, that's you. Then they escort you to the machines where you do your X-raying of your stuff and you take your laptop out. You go ahead of everybody. Now, and it's only $250. And what you're giving up there is your biometrics, Sam. They know, like, I could stand in front of that. I've had makeup on. I've had no makeup on. Correct. And so there will be people at times they're like, well, what the hell are they doing? And I always say, you can do this too. This is not because people are fancy.

27:47You don't have to wait in this line. And so during heavy travel weeks, like if you happen to travel during spring break, but not for spring break, it, it once is worth the money to do it. And it scans your face. It just goes, you just go right in front of this little camera and it goes, hello, Dana. And a physical person then walks you to the front of the person that checks your passport and your driver's license. They make everybody else wait. You get to cut in front of everybody and then you go straight to the machine and take off your shoes. So what you're saying is it's only for rich people? No. She said $250. If you have an American Express, it's free. But I want to say it's a plat. You got to have some, I don't know which one it is. The one where you pay like $2,000 a year or something. No, I don't know which one it is. For the right to have it. I'm telling you, it is something. Well, but see, your biometrics have already been taken. When you go to Mexico, for example, you have to, you know, you get in the passport and then you have to stand there and look into the screen and it just takes a picture of your face.

28:53They've already got my biometrics somewhere. We always lay over in Houston because there is no direct flight to Bloccy. It drives me crazy. And Houston is a gateway to hell. Yep. And I'll tell you this, Scott, if you ever have to go to Houston, you are going to be glad you have it. I'll never go back to Houston. Well, if you lay over there, I will not lay over there. I almost got murdered in Houston. I do remember that story. Kicked off the flip flops and ran. That is right. I should flip flops. Never to be seen again. I'm not getting my beer. You're not getting my two. Hey, no. I did. I took that six pack of beer like I was Walter Peyton. I did, man. A Virginia mother is speaking out after her conviction on a child abuse charge, stemming from her decision to let her five year old son walk outside alone. What time was it? Carrie Ann Parkinson's son Samuel likes to collect goose feathers. So over the summer, she let him walk half a mile to a local pond by himself to go get more. I gave him permission to go sit Parkinson's to CBS news.

29:55I told him, go there. Come right back. Ford's colony, that's their neighborhood's name, is a gated community where they live near Williamsburg. They have paid security guards, one of whom stopped Samuel on his way to the pond and escorted him back home. Says mom, the security guard said, well, we don't permit children to be out in the neighborhood alone. And I said, is that an HOA by law? Because I really don't think that's against the rules. And he said, well, if it's not against the rules, it's against the law, I'm calling police. The police and child protective services responded the day of the incident. And Parkinson was charged two weeks later with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. What do you think? I think other people are really good at being other people's parents. Did you not play outside when you were a kid? Of course we did. We all did. This is a gated community. They have paid security.

30:57The odds that something bad is going to happen to that kid while he walks to go get more goose feathers is very, very small. Do I hear an amen? I walked to school at age five. We walked to school from our babysitter's house to the school with armed guard. We did not have an armed guard. We were in a group of like say six to eight kids every single day that we walked as a group to school and back. Secret service was lurking behind. There were a couple of instances for whatever reason I was either late or that I had to walk by myself. And this would have been in 1979, 80. While I was never kidnapped, I was almost attacked by a pack of rabid dogs. And someone's grandmother saved me and said, get in the car. I'm your classmates grandma. I'll take you to school. This was not an integrated community. This was in Topeka. By the train tracks. So you would have been attacked by the dogs even if you had friends with you.

31:58Yeah, I was not one to let the children wander alone at that age. Nor did I want them like at the school bus stop alone when they were. You didn't live in a gated community. Elementary school. But I don't fault someone else in that particular situation for making that choice that's best for them. We don't know if Miss Parkinson is one of these free range parents that we've heard about in the news. Which is funny because free range parents just means they're doing exactly how we grew up. Right. But some of you letting their kids grow up. Yes. Yes. But somewhere along the line, all of this changed. And I think it was when our generation became parents. And for whatever reason. Oh, Adam, was was the reason you're right. It's where the reason the milk cartons. But that was that was in New York City. Doesn't matter. At a time when New York was very dangerous. But Scott, they were on milk cartons here. Yeah.

32:58Like I don't even fault us for being as weird as we are because we grew up eating cereal, staring at the faces of missing children they never found. Do you falter? No. You would let your five year old walk to the pond. I'm not saying I would have that would have been my choice. But I think she's doing the best that she can under her own circumstances. I had read the article first and then I happened to see her on KVLASID being interviewed. I don't know one of the news things, whatever. She's quite an articulate lady. She either, and I didn't quite catch it. She either a lost student or she is an attorney. But the kid was one of five. She said it was something that they do this walk through this neighborhood by the pond every day. She's quite familiar with the area. She is too. She knew her kid. She said, he wanted to go back. They just got in the house in this walk. He wanted to go back to do whatever it was to do. She had a permission. She said she trusted him. She knew he knew how to get there. And that she believed he was capable of doing that. And then the worst part of this whole thing is not only to just start, but then she gets charged.

40:15She's a real against her. And the interesting thing is, and I'm hoping we get to continue to follow it, she's appealing. And she's unlike probation or something for like five years or I don't know. She had to register under a some sort of list for child abuse. There you go. It was something absolutely affinite. And my kids are the age of you too. So my kids were raised as two boys, hearing the Kansas City suburb an area, as pre-range kids. And my younger one still says, you know, I don't want to go out and find something. I don't have anything to do. I said, go out and sit on the curb. You'll figure out something. Any day. And my, I just don't understand the idea that we have to be so afraid. We do understand it. But I think sometimes it just goes crazy. And this is one of those instances in my opinion.
