I found myself yesterday morning really wound up
about not being able to find access to a man United
Aston Villa Premier League game was you know, I have my favorite
Sabers bills Red Sox man United all favorited on my ESPN app.
So when I go in there every day like their games are at the top
and there's a man United the next game for Man United is Sunday
Aston Villa.
Come on.
You kidding me?
It's on it says on USA.
It's not on peacock.
I pay for peacock.
I don't get USA anymore because Fubos in a battle with NBC
and all their affiliates and like so I don't have.
I'm not going to be able to find this game.
I'm composing tweets and rewording them trying to get it just right.
And I thought about going out to a bar to watch soccer.
Game is next Sunday.
Whoops.
It wasn't even on the right day.
That's me yesterday like way to go bro.
I get it though.
Good job.
I see like you said this before about a couple of these services
where what you get you might want to see what you just were watching
or your favorites or anything like that.
But it can be like upcoming and it's sort of in May.
And that could be annoying right here's Paul Hamilton.
Well Paul I guess I want to preface this by it's sort of a thing
with me when people talk about best ever game or like the newest
thing is I've never been to such and such an experience.
However last night I think has to rates on a very short list of incredible
games in that building.
Would you not agree?
Yeah and I'm with you because it's like well the latest game seems like the best
ever.
And sometimes you forget others and I think well I probably have seen an eight
seven games somewhere along the line here but I don't remember a game where the
Sabers had a three nothing lead and then got outscored six to one and then
proceeded to outscore the opponent four to one to get to eight to seven.
I don't remember that with how many well five fighting majors but for whatever
reason there was a fight with Byron that they didn't give majors they gave
roughing and ten minute misconducts and that Byron was like pounding on the
guy's head for like Byron pulled a haggle Byron was the first guy I saw
throw his gloves off he was at like the blue line entering the zone.
This is the one that beginning the first hit of the first big thing in the
game when two guys tag team Thompson against the wall Byron's gloves are like
he almost threw him up to the jumbo drone and it was this barely in those same
guy but it was later behind the net okay and he got the two minutes and a ten
right and it's like well those punches that we were watching
didn't count right right so there's five official fights but there were more
you know and and 102 minutes and penalties which should have also been
more because haggle should have been excused from the game I agree with Lindy
Ruff Hall heartedly on that I mean that's that's a game misconduct I'm sorry
that's a major penalty and a game misconduct but you know what referees do
and we've all seen it if it's not like if Rob Ray would have done that in
his day he would have gotten like three majors three misconducts and a ten
game suspension but when a guy who has some offensive talent
does it it's like well let's give him a break here you see all the time where
the third man in doesn't get called they're giving him a break yeah you know
so they call a double minor so they don't have to call third man in and well they
decided well let's not give him a major because then we got to toss him and
and then so as you get a double minor yes Buffalo scored in the power flip but
this guy also got a goal and an assist later on too
and and did get did get fined the most he could get fined today five
thousand dollars but that that was kind of ridiculous but yeah
getting back to the original thing I don't remember a game that
that was similar to this and I don't remember a crowd like this since
Max Affini again often Danny Breer and Dury and Miller and all that group
that's about the last time I heard a crowd like that what is it like in that room
I don't know like last night Paul like how much because you've been in in rooms
where this this team is you know clinch playoff series so
it's important to point out here the Sabers won a hockey game last night they
haven't won anything really of substance here but they're having this
incredible year and the players I think to a man from what I heard I'm
just curious to have your first hand point point of view on this
said they really were feeling emotional about the crowd
no I mean darling was pretty frank he goes we couldn't have done it without him
I mean they just got charged up and even when it was seven to five it's the
let's go Buffalo I mean at no point even when Tampa is running up six to one
did I hear a boo or thing but encouragement
and loud encouragement for the hockey team because even after the six one
happen you're still talking about a seven five game
and there's still half a period left right and you know the Sabers are still
pressuring they had well over 40 shots and they're still pressuring
and there's no there's no quitting these guys we all know that now
and we I don't know if we could have said that in past years
but there's no quitting these guys and they just keep coming and coming and
coming and it's like all right let us get our offensive chances now and maybe
we can convert on some of them and that's exactly what they did and
they got the three goals in less than five minutes I mean it was like four
something four 40 or four 44 or something like that
and you know they just they just keep coming they don't care and you know
again the power play it's like we've been talking about this for how long
four power play goal but what about the other three where they never even got
the buck in the zone and then the five on three which I will give them some
grace on because Dalline who was their quarterback was sitting in the penalty
box for the whole two-minute five on three and the guys on the ice
they were lost they were just trying to force plays because the quarterback
wasn't back there normally Thompson would have deferred back to Dalline
given in the puck whether it would have worked or not I don't know but it would
have worked a lot better than Thompson trying to force passes through three
guys and and out but all right you didn't score on the five on three
but then you went four for five on the power play after that
and they have finishers I mean I think yeah structurally the complaining about
the power play has merit but they have guys who can just like click
I mean don'ts gold for one nothing the hands not a power play goal but the hands
on Zucker for two for two nothing on that Dalline pass
I mean if they've got goal scores Samuelson has become this player too
also not a power play and they have a power play goal and 10 out of 13 games

though but it's it really is you know as I said they might have four power plays in the
for and three of them were horrendous but they did score on the other one did you
I guess maybe I'm just behind a little bit or maybe you'd agree I didn't expect
I don't think of Tampa Bay as like so goony of a team but you talked about Lindy after the game
and he was asked about their chasing Dali and he said look that way didn't you know very
cool it was it had the look of a game where Tampa Bay just wanted to sort of smack the sabres
around and thought probably there was value in that were the boss you know who are you get out
of here and the sabres stood up to it do you think of the lightning is like would it surprise would
it have surprised you that they play like that no not at all they leave the league in majors I mean
every time they play Florida it's a game like that so they out there they're quite honestly I
I really don't think Tampa respects Buffalo yet I as somebody said to me somewhere on one of
the shows I've been on or maybe the post game with Brian it's it's like well you know it's kind
of surprising they didn't play Vasyl Eski in the game that was more important and I said
do you really think Tampa do you I said do you really think Tampa thought of as an important game I don't
I don't think I don't think it's registered yet the Buffalo sabres have arrived maybe if they
look at the standings today it might register to them but I just don't think it's right because
it's been so long where you play the Buffalo sabres especially in Buffalo it's a really easy game
you can take it easy you can roll your stats up yeah they may they may come to life at some point
but you know you're just it's a laffer and it's been so many years and I think teams are
still trying to get used to that the Buffalo sabres are different now and Tampa's like well
let's try to just run them out of the building we'll do what other teams because other teams try to
to get aggravate dollying too and Florida get absolutely Florida's had a these had a thing with
a number of guys on Florida yeah I mean the teams do it that's what they try to do
I can guarantee you the guy that we spoke with at the end of the first period Logan Stanley
was taking some notes he knows the Tampa comes in and I'll guarantee you this Tampa will not do
exactly what they did yesterday in that game if Stanley's dressed and not injured they they
hegel will not do to dolline what he did if he has to answer to Stanley I'll guarantee it
so you know that that that foolishness will will be reduced I don't know if it'll be gone
but it'll be reduced because they got the dirt one of the dirtiest players in the national
hockey league in Kutcheroff yep I mean that guy that guy is just phenomenal hockey player but he
is a punk boy I thought I want to just I want to interject here when when the horn blue was hard to
see was going on because the camera angle where the play was happening I saw Kutcheroff I'm like
somebody should just go get him right by room just go just go get him just go cross check him in the
face whatever basically as long as stick whoever it was the back there with him and as the horn
was blowing he is filthy that guy and he's got a temper um yeah he is did you see him after the
one-timer he scores on the one-timer and he goes over and gets and looking and he's
barking at the goalie yeah garbage to him yep yep that happened after two-temp of goals seven five
maybe they ended up at the saber bench bunch of guys after that after that goal yeah do you think
Dalline I said in the first segment of our show that it might do him well to just sort of go off
on someone one of these nights doesn't have to be Tampa but like he did there's no mystery he's
a great player right he's important he's their captain right he's great he's all over the ice
he's also edgy like he antagonizes you know like he some well-placed chops with the stick it's not
like he's innocent bystander but he doesn't engage fully to drop the gloves level um I wonder if
he did with radish well right he was sort of pulled into that I think um I wonder if he could
um do do himself well to sort of I don't know plant a flag if you know what I mean in someone's
face mm-hmm yeah he's he's done that once or twice um I I let you know when when Hagle was I
what I kind of enjoyed was the team it was by him because they were up ice so nobody really
sought except Lucanin Lucanin's looking straight at it and it didn't take he he just came right out
of the crease and he was headed for Hagle and the referee cut him off just before he got there and by
that time don't had seen it and came back and and jumped in uh but I liked the fact that Lucanin
said none of the teammates can see I can see I'm going I gotta go help him and Johansson let it
happen he wasn't coming out of the tamper crease which kind of surprised me uh because Lucanin had
a purpose when he was coming out and uh so he he almost got there so we almost wound up with a
goalie fight too all right Johansson was probably like man I want to play I never get to play
I have to go fight I get thrown out automatically and he ends up giving up eight eight seven and
both goalies last the duration really yeah amazing that that was a game that could have happened
and with the stakes one thing I'll give Lucanin credit for he fought through it I mean he was having
a rough night but you know in the last five minutes he had to make some saves and he he fought through
it I mean as the team did I mean it wasn't the team's best night some guys had some bad nights
but they they didn't quit on the game they fought through it and it's like all right it's not our
night but we got it's it's kind of like what you hear coaches say I've heard Grinato say it and
then I heard Lindy Ruff say it you don't have your A game but just because you have a B game is
no excuse to lose the hockey game and that's kind of what the Sabers did there it's like that wasn't
their best they they made some turnovers they they've been cleaning up and not making Osslyn does
not make turnovers very often he had a horrible one that wound up in the net um you know and and
it's it wasn't like them but they found a way to win because they stuck with it and I would
include Luke in in there that he it wasn't his night but he stuck in there just quickly I also
like that rough included Osslyn in the post game on the play that he made which was relatively right
even though that wasn't one of the eight goals uh deserved it was was worthy of mention yeah good
in a game like that that he didn't get benched for that mistake earlier that cost them a goal
on the giveaway Paul right well I you know Lindy Ruff is you know he he he knows a lot more about
hockey than I do and and uh he you know he realizes Osslyn is not a turnover machine I mean he's
he's good with the puck and everything and all right he's and he's human he turned the puck over
once and it wound up in the net uh he don't need to tell him he first of all I'm sure not much was
said when he came over he knows because he's a very smart hockey player that's what got him to
the national hockey league at age 21 uh so it's just it happened and you move on they have today
off because in my opinion they should get today off it was a scheduled day off so I'm thinking
it probably was the NHL mandate a day off but uh yeah and uh you know especially when you've got
three games and four I mean a back to back and both were difficult wins I mean there were
Nashville's a difficult win in other ways yes right you know so uh you know that yeah they
they even if they had lost both games I think they would have had today off just because you only
have so much energy I'm glad you mentioned the Nashville game because I somewhere earlier in our
show already today Paul I mentioned how it's pretty cool to have back-to-back nights with home games
and have the two games be you know both one in regulation very different hockey games right Saturday
now it's just low event just sort of waited out don't make a mistake kind of thing and you know
they built a lead and then sort of you know hung on um but it was a very patient game and you
need to know how to win that kind of game and then last night I can only imagine how valuable it
was for them to learn what kind of drain it can be on you emotionally and physically to be all
that adrenaline all the fights all that stuff like I you know I was writing your game story in my
head watching the third period while Tampa's up by two two different times like you know Tampa
dragged them into the alley and the Sabers didn't have enough left after after the fighting but they
recovered and found their way and it's just so impressive to win a game in such different ways
on back-to-back nights Tampa dragged them into the alley and tired themselves out right they didn't
have the gas to finish the game where the Sabers did what what I'm interested to see a much
improved San Jose Sharks team comes in tomorrow this is a very emotional game that they just won
they've beaten Tampa twice now they just got themselves to first place they were spent I mean Alex
Tuck was sitting there waiting for us we came over I got there first and so you want to you're
gonna stand you're gonna sit he goes I don't know what he want to do I didn't play
you're choice he goes all right I guess I'll stand but you could just tell he was spent and
Dallin looked like he he was in a 12-round prize fight I mean his face is all swollen cut open
and and the whole thing so after an emotional win like that I'll be very interested to see how
how they are tomorrow against San Jose are they getting the reinforcements yet I mean you mentioned
Stanley I saw him on the telecast as well being interviewed he's here are they all
here but they can't work look at all the shiner here and he gets here today I believe
and yeah they're he's ready to go I asked I said do you have any idea how long this visa
thing's gonna take is I really don't I mean he's ready to go but he can't in practice I mean he's
gotta skate on his own and he can't even practice and I you know I always expecting him to like
jump out of the press box onto the ice he was so he was so ready to play and watching his new
teammates as you as you said get dragged into the fight and it would have been interesting to see
if Pearson was a bigger man and Shen and and and and Stanley were all in the lineup if that would
have changed the complexion of the game I don't think I don't think Hagle is as brave as he thinks
he is if those guys are in the if those guys are in the fight so yeah they're they're just
itching to get out there and they Stanley I just don't know I don't know how long it's gonna take
but I'm ready to play it's so good to have villains back right like hey Hagle Hagle's at the
top of the list now I'm I'm watching I was watching Detroit a couple of times while I was out sick
last week and let me just I'm ready to go on Alex to bring its face when anybody wants like he's
just got one of those mugs that you're gonna he's gonna score against us in the playoffs and you're
gonna be like oh that guy like it's almost small in ski level face like it's so good to have
that all back I just face a punchable face draft like I missed it so much and Dalline hates the
Red Wings too he was talking about Raymond is boy from Sweden yeah who played really well and he
goes oh if we played Detroit I love that yes let's play Detroit in the playoffs and I want to
beat Raymond so bad and and I hate Detroit yeah I mean he's like model fired up it's like let's
start the series tomorrow type of a thing uh yeah so I don't think Dalline would mind if the Red
Wings were the opponent either but Tampa's on its own tier for me right now as a rival you know
like there are there are players right there's history sabers have no playoff history with the
lightning or the Red Wings as it happens but I think they're on their own level Paul as like
after last night the hated rival oh Blendy Lindy Ruff I don't know a couple months ago we were
he was at the podium we were talking about villains or whatever and we were talking about the
Bruins series where Lindy Ruff was centering a line with Larry play fair and Val James
against against the Bruins like Bruce shoe bottom and I think Miller might have been a part of that
and whoever you know and I was like probably yeah I was like one fight after another and yeah
but Lindy Ruff was centering Larry play fair and Val James that was a line for the playoffs
special special different different different time yeah right Larry wing but it got
they should have gone further with that Larry wing all right well we'll wait for updates on
the new guys I think you know this is the kind of the time of year when you you mix them all in
right I mean they're not all going to play every game but maybe this team's close to exhausted
after the weekend well I think what's going to happen is Metza goes back as a captain of Rochester
Shen is your number seven Stanley steps in as your number six right plays with Kessel Ring or
you know and and Shen if you like he would definitely be dressed for the Tampa Bay game I'll
guarantee that Kessel Ring had a nice kind yeah with 81 they couldn't put each other he wasn't
going to be denied because he was denied right before the period ended so it took two seconds for
them to start tangling you know when the period started so it's like okay let's let's get out
there he probably told Lindy start me Lindy okay and he got him to the ground yeah
yeah he got him to the ground right it was a balanced diet Corey Corey Perry's no shrinking
violet no that's right took him welcome back Corey I love I love I didn't think he'd get traded
because LA was sort of on the fence there I loved him as an idea for the sabers to see him back
on that team again where he won with them maybe the the second of their their cups in a row I can't
remember but he was definitely on Tampa at some point in that run maybe you got there even after
it anyways what a perfect guy to have thrown into the rivalry is Corey Perry I mean he's like
out of central cast and you guys saw it the slow motion on that the end of that fight Malinstein
gets him and then he goes for one more he just misses like Perry is already falling right and
there's a punch that just goes right by his face that could have been really pretty pretty brutal
well just to be clear Paul we don't know if there's a chance that the visa thing is it's just one
of these things that'll happen one day we just don't know when it could have been solved today
yeah who knows I mean they may be a practice tomorrow we don't know I mean whenever it's solved
it's solved I have I have no idea you know how that's going to work so it just take when it takes
whatever it takes its time and takes its time I remember Dan Dunlavy had to go to
Montreal I believe it was and sit there for like a week to get his and he had to like pay for
his hotel and everything and it took a week for him to get his and he had to actually go to
Montreal to do it so it's it's goofy how that works Paul thanks yep great night there you go there's

they've been the initials best team since being in December there's no way if you've been watching
this Buffalo Sabers team that you can suggest that they're not a legitimate Stanley Cup contender
are they in the upper echelon of teams no but they're a contender and as a team starts to build
that it's team starts to believe there's no reason for them not to think that they can't go deep
and content for the Stanley Cup because there's enough evidence there to say that what they're thinking
as a Stanley Cup contender is legitimate Craig button think it's a clip from the other day the deadline
day and now we have the weekend to add to the discussion i wonder how they're gonna come out of
the Olympic break seven wins in a row so and counting i'm not sure i can really draw a line between
what they are and quote Stanley Cup contender i think you know for the most part in this league
half or more of the teams in the playoffs can be called contenders how many teams is it really
totally unrealistic anymore in the NHL that are in the playoffs that could go to the finals or win
the cup i mean i kind of think most years it's probably gonna might be five two per conference me
right right back it in what do i have to do i mean he's obviously flattering them that's the tone
of the comments yeah but are they top tier no well who's top tier Colorado Dallas and Minnesota
i think are are the three teams that i would look at right now i don't have to be i don't have to
right i don't have to beat any of them to make it to the final that's right they're all in the same
division they're all in the west um you know like Edmonton should qualify but they're not having
that they're having they're having like they're taking a ride this year like they'll they'll get
in probably but they're in a fight to just get in whereas those three teams are just i mean
Colorado even Colorado is seven points clear of Dallas in that division that's how good they are
but i think those three teams are the are the three most serious looking teams that's why for me
like everyone you know not everyone a lot of fans like to hey when did you you know when did
the light go on for you this year like when did you think that this was real and
for me my answer is New Year's Eve they played in Dallas on New Year's Eve
and Dallas was it turns out in the midst of like a five game skid um so maybe they weren't
their best but to me that's a top tier contending level team and the sabers were the better team
that night and that was really i was like okay this is this is really impressive there's nothing
fluky about what i just watched i think if it's over now they're favored in the first round
against whoever it would be like Boston maybe or Montreal but they're what what kind of favorite
minus 140 yeah like not almost a coin flip for us well it's the best of seven i don't mean like
do like that but they they played seven seven game series they'd win four by the odds i think
it'd be something like that which means like nobody's in the east really going to be a favorite
like they're all going to be sort of good value to be the team to win the conference
so i think the sabers have to be in i mean they're in first they have to be on that list toward
the top of that list but they're not going to be like obvious and if we're all going to use 20
years ago it's the last time around for this that was really different than you know the sabers
played the islanders in oh seven and they were a huge favorite to beat the islanders and they did
in five games it wasn't easy so i think this year might be a little bit even more this
yep then even more recent years i think the fact that Detroit and Montreal are in the spots that
have been occupied by Toronto and Florida lends itself to that it's a little like the football
conversation we had this year without you know without ball tomorrow without Kansas City
the teams that you're used to lording over those top three spots two of them while they're
in seventh and eighth place in the division they're not going to make the playoffs
so it uh it opens it up not just to the opportunity to be in that spot but now what can the playoffs
bring because if Florida if Florida squeezed into the eighth spot which is i mean they're not
mathematically dead from doing that if they were to do it that's a team you'd be like oh look
out Carolina or tell whoever whoever gets them right now i think they're shutting marshand down
right sounds like he might be out for the year um so it's not going to happen but if they if
they were close enough then that would be a little you know it would be a little bit of a monkey
in the the whole workings here they'd come it all up but it's it's mostly it's new guys in Tampa
is what you've got here um and even the other division is kind of the same the rangers have been
near the top of that division year over year for a few years running they're gone the islanders
are there Columbus is making noise Pittsburgh in kind of a throwback season is you know gonna make
the playoffs when they look they were missing three years on a row i think prior to this year um
Washington has fallen off again after a year that i still can't even make sense of that happened
last year really they rode the wave of the emotion of ovis record chase all the way to like a high
seed in the playoffs but they were never that good and they're not again this year and they even
sold off John Carlson at the trade deadline so there's really the opportunity for a
a new England or a Denver to show up and make noise in the postseason is totally there in the east
the west because of those three teams in that one division is still very much like you know the
normal order is still oh the still there Travis is gonna love that actually he did write about
the pacific today he's gonna love Dallas and Minnesota in the first round right when each of those
teams will be 20 points better than right the pacific winner perhaps i mean Vegas is one point out
of first place they're 29 and 35 right anaheim's in first because they win all the shootouts

last night a couple things i i don't know how the league doesn't investigate they were clearly trying
to injure key players on a sabers it felt like to me watching it on tv and uh i mean the fortitude
of those guys to just brush it off and come back and win and i don't know uh whoo
i got chills now all right um yeah i mean look dolleen was definitely targeted
punches to the head are now i just i'm i'm blocking at trying to injure like it
doing what Malcolm did on thursday night is dangerous and trying to injure someone
punching someone in the head is intimidating them and trying to get them to fight you
is a is a subtle difference when they're down though is there's there's no room for that yeah
i mean he throws a couple of punches before dolleen goes down and that's what you're saying
i think i'm that's trying to defend whatever the right hockey culture point is here more just
from a common sense standpoint how do you get away with that how do you i win any form of society
can you just sort of repeatedly punch a guy who's on the ground even in hockey even in hockey
that should get you run even in hockey yeah yeah i mean pause point was and he's probably right
that it's a different standard for a skill player i mean not that it should be but it is
i think you know you can sort of not exactly run out of gas as an official but you're trying to
get the game on the rails and i mean you're you can't throw throw everybody out they didn't end up
what throwing anybody out right last night but the game starts like that and you can't get
the game going because not only are these all all these altercations it seemed like nobody really
knew what they were like every one of these fight situations came with like a three minute or
five minute delay right in the first period took almost an hour to play it took like an hour
and i didn't even hear what dolleen got i was sort of waiting and that first
scrum like all right what is this going to be because he's still in the box right after five
minutes he's still in there he's there when karak comes in yeah that's way later yeah that was
just kind of waiting to find out as a viewer what actually the penalties were they did in the
intermission they showed all the penalties but you don't always get that anymore yeah but it's just
like at the at the timekeepers box there was still it was confusion about the order of which you
know when when can this guy come out that kind of thing they they had to have a couple of summit
meetings over there it felt like maybe you could have gained that the players could have right no
it's my turn i'll go it felt like that mine's the one that's up yeah how crazy all of this is just so
shocking and we're talking about the cup now yes we are three months ago is that i mean that's
a long time but three months ago what would it have sounded like it is still i was talking about
this when when you were out at the front end of the week and then i you came back and i missed
we had a one day together um but i the robber Thomas day what day was that Tuesday i guess because
we were together on wednesday um i kept trying i had a robber Thomas day um it turned it think
imagine uh somebody you know that what likes the show tunes in but it's sort of like a lot of
sabers fans have been there sort of arms length are even further away uh from you than that
and but you listen to the show and you're still trying to stay in touch and the guy in the radio is
carrying out about how great this robber Thomas is and you're like i don't even know who that is
i don't watch the blues i don't was he around when we traded oh Riley did we want him is that who
like the idea is such a foreign concept and like yeah on the heels of that like three four days later
you've got that game that could have as well been in a boxing ring it's all a lot like the sabers
have accelerated to the point where yeah they are a contender to like not just make the playoffs
an end of 14 season drought but to actually make noise the conference is presenting itself in that
way and they every every test they clear they just they they know the answers crazy so good you
want to come in and play a boring low event game like Nashville on Saturday night okay we got that
you want to come in and play the royal rumble 24 hours later okay we got we got that we know
to do that too like show in the bulldog here sal kapaccio in about 20 minutes talking free agency
lots of movement around the league the bills have lost a few players we'll see uh what else
