This is very strange.

It's my show.
Hey, put a little bit.
I never get this line out the first time.
It's not even good.
Hey, put a little bit more in there, cowboy.
And the bulldog.
What's your degree in?
Kick it ass and take a name!
Not WGR.
Sports Radio 550.
I think I know this answer, and I'm not sure mine would be different.
But if we lived in Dayton, would you ever go to these games tonight?
I wouldn't want to rule it out.
It's not because I just don't know lifestyle-wise,
what else do I have going on in Dayton?
This might be a pretty big deal.
I think it would be.
Every year.
I don't want to take for granted that the tournament is here again.
It's obviously the fourth time, or is it even more than that?
It's familiar to me that it's here.
But the first time it was here was a really big deal,
and even I found out the second time,
because I went more than one time.
Yes.
It meant a lot to me to get tickets.
Whenever Bobby Knight would be there, so would Bulldog.
Right, exactly.
So, yeah, I wouldn't rule it out if I were in Dayton.
There's also tomorrow as well.
Also in Dayton?
Yeah.
That's the play in place every year.
Okay.
It's their Super Bowl summer saying.
Super Bowls.
With us now is Alex Gold on the Western Hotline.
Alex, how's life?
Hey, what's going on, guys?
That's good.
Yeah, it's good.
I do love even the first four.
I heard you guys talk about that.
I would absolutely go.
I think if it was in Kansas City.
So, I'm fired up for this week.
It's one of my favorite weeks of the year, honestly, guys.
As a kid growing up,
Selection Sunday was always a big deal.
I have to understand.
I went to KU, so I'm a big J-Hawk band.
They've been in the tournament for 36 straight years,
so I'm a bit spoiled.
That'll help when it comes to interest.
It'll help if you went to a power school like that.
That annual awesome thing for you, yes.
Alex, before we get into the offseason,
I get any updates.
I get on Kansas City's stadium future,
probably through you on social media.
What is the latest?
Are they moving?
Is it soon?
What is the plan there?
Yes, as far as the chiefs go, yeah, they're moving to Kansas.
That's a done deal.
I mean, there's a few requirements they have to establish
like a sports authority on the Kansas side of the state lines
and things like that.
But they already had the press conference with the governor,
and they've already held up the jersey with the governor
and the owner.
I mean, they're moving to Kansas.
We don't have renderings yet of the new stadium.
That probably could happen anytime now.
But yes, they will move to the Kansas side of the state line.
I think 2031 is going to be the first season,
if I'm not mistaken, that they'll be playing football on the Kansas side.
For those of us not familiar with the geography as the crow flies,
how much of a difference are we talking about miles?
Yeah, we're talking from Arrowhead to the new Arrowhead.
We're talking maybe a 25 minute drive.
Is that west towards the state of Kansas?
For someone like myself or where I live in the suburbs,
the distance of the drive is about the same.
It takes me 25 minutes to get to Arrowhead.
It'll take me 20, 25 minutes to get to the Kansas City Kansas side,
which is where the stadium is going to be.
So it's not a huge difference.
But people are very passionate,
depending on what side of the state line they live on.
And so there's plenty of Missouri fans that are very upset
and are acting as if they'll never go to a game on the Kansas side, et cetera.
Missouri government went, I mean,
the chiefs did not just run for the bag, right?
I mean, they went numerous times to the state to try to get something done.
And I think was this like a last alternative type of thing
or did it start out as a threat and then it became real?
Yes and no.
So they did try a public vote on the Missouri side of the state line
through the county, Jackson County,
which is where the royals and the chiefs have been located for 50 years.
And where Arrowhead and Kaufman are,
and two April's ago, it failed miserably.
It was a joint package.
It would have been a slight increase in extension of a 3-8 cent sales tax.
And the royals would have had a downtown ballpark.
The chiefs would have renovated Arrowhead.
But most people believe now, ultimately, the chiefs really did want to leave Missouri
because the renovation plan they put together was pretty half-assed.
And the royals plan, the location changed
towards the end.
And so the thought was that the chiefs somewhat sabotaged the royals plan almost
with that public ballot.
And so once that happened, everything was on the table.
And I think once that public vote failed, the chiefs truly were all moving towards
trying to work out something with Kansas.
And as far as they just go for the bag,
they got the largest public subsidy or stadium.
And not just NFL history, but US history.
And so it was in no brainer the old,
when you start to look at some of the numbers.
I mean, any business, any NFL owner would have been foolish, frankly,
not to take the deal.
The chiefs just got, which is, I mean, it's unbelievable.
It's 70 plus percent of the stadium paid for by the state.
Always great to see the little guys like NFL owners do well.
Well, I mean, very similar paths, the chiefs and the bills.
They're previous or current stadiums considered, you know,
like from a certain nostalgic viewpoint, really special outdoors,
you know, elements and especially here.
And people love them.
You know, people love going to games in Buffalo and in Kansas City.
And the stadiums are almost exactly the same age.
1971 was the last year of Kansas City's old stadium municipal stadium.
I'm not sure if you are like a Kansas City native.
I think you might be.
But there's some really cool history there.
They had a band bulldog in the old chief stadium.
Tony.
Yeah.
So Tony DiPardo zing band.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
When they moved to Arrowhead, it was the, you know, the Tony DiPardo Pac-Man band
or, you know, it was, it was, it was a, it was a, it was a pretty special band.
I'm, I am born and raised here in Kansas City.
Now, I'm a little bit too young to know about municipal as far other than stories
that I've, I've been told from, from friends and family and people in the area.
But yes, you're right on the context of, of Arrowhead as well.
And that's why so many good chunk of people do not want them to leave because of the history
of the building.
The fact that they're going to be building a dome stadium.
That's the one thing people here are still jealous of.
At least in Buffalo, you guys are key.
Hey, y'all.

And I would have loved to have seen that.
But the big selling point for Kansas on the public money side was.
Well, maybe you get a final four.
Maybe you get a super boy.
You get your round concerts.
And that's there was no scenario where they were moving to Kansas and building an open air stadium.
Right.
Love a sing band, Bulldog.
Go to you.
Everyone does.
And I got to the rock pile.
No different.
The bills were long out of there.
Right.
But we both sell baseball.
We both sell minor league baseball.
And the bills original state.
Right.
And so now it's across the street.
About the same distance for me as well.
Driving.
Hi, Mark.
Sadie.
I'm a new.
Mark.
Sadie.
Is there right next to each other?
It should work out.
Yeah.
Well, Alex.
Trent McDuffy traded.
That's probably the headliner as we wait on Patrick Mahomes injury updates.
I mean, there's just in fields.
How would you sum up the chief's offseason to date?
So I think it's been effective in terms of.
How I wanted them to proceed, which is something that has been tough for I think fans to recognize.
They are not going to enter next year with the first or second or third best roster in the AFC.
And after going to three straight super bulls and then last year happening.
You know, they were they were certainly all in and they made some move that put them up against the cap.
And now it's time to pay the price a little bit, which is a bit of a retooling.
And with that said, it doesn't mean that I think they're going to be bad next year.
I think they're more of a wildcard team, though.
And more than pushing towards one of the top AFC spots.
And I think their moves they have made, including the McDuffy trade.
Set themself up to where by 2027.
They could be back to entering a year as one of the AFC favorites.
And again, that people don't want to hear that here.
You have Patrick Mahomes.
And I get it.
And I don't think they're tanking or punting on the year.
And if you get in the dance, who knows what can happen with Patrick Mahomes.
But I think McDuffy was a move that they had to make.
Now that we know what the dollar amount was for that contract to make them the highest paid corner in an FL history.
That was what it was going to take.
They could have dragged it out another year or so and played it out and tagged them and all that.
But I think with the holes on this roster that they still have even today.
They needed extra draft capital in a bad way.
They got nine picks now.
For the most picks they've had in many, many years.
And the last time Brett Vich had a bunch of picks was that 2022 draft after the bucks Super Bowl.
And ultimately after the Tyree killed trade where they got McDuffy and they were able to get George Carloftus.
And so I think they're playing this pretty smart.
I also think Kenneth Walker going out and getting the best available running back.
They've realized that running back is valuable again in the NFL.
They were late to the party.
And while Isaiah Pacheco was very effective in his first two years as a seventh round pick.
They got everything possible out of him.
But they needed to invest in running back.
And especially with their quarterback coming off at ACL and LCL injury.
I love the signing.
It's a ton of money.
But I would rather than spend money on Kenneth Walker.
Frankly, then hope and wait that Jeremiah love is there at nine and spend the ninth overall pick on a running back.
Yeah, it's interesting to me.
You got to the last time we all thought that the chief were backing up or at least just, you know,
treading water was with that that offseason with the hill trade.
And we know what happened from there, right?
I mean, they didn't back up at all.
They went charging forward.
And I think one, two super bulls and a row from there and then lost a third.
Is that the?
So like I'm a little leery of like the Kansas City radio guy.
No offense.
I was like, oh, the chiefs are, you know, they're a wild card team.
Like, I don't know, man.
Like they, um, they seem to defy some of that in the past.
And I wonder if they can't do the same thing again.
I mean, look, Andy Reed and Patrick Maholves together and, you know,
anything's possible if Maholves returns to form post ACL.
I mean, I never would count him out.
And I'm, I don't think I am the majority opinion in Kansas City.
I would say certainly amongst fans, they think that they can jump right back and.
And be, you know, the top team in the AFC again.
I just think guys, the roster construction right now, they still even throughout this offseason.
The draft is still ahead.
But they, their defensive line was a problem last year.
And other than signing a nose tackle, they haven't done anything yet there.
You know, Chris Jones is a year older.
The secondary, we know they just traded Trent McDuffy, which I like to move long term.
But in a short term, right now, your corners are no Williams, a second year player.
And then Christian Fulton, who was a veteran signing last year who barely could get on the field.
And so, you know, the wide receiver spot right now, they brought back Ty Quant Thorden.
That's all they've done.
Rishi Rice, more and more people now are thinking he may not get suspended.
But maybe he's missing time next year.
You know, Xavier Worthy in year two was disappointing.
He was hurt most of the year.
It's a big year three for him.
You know, we can keep going Travis Kelsey is coming back.
I'm fine with it.
But, you know, I don't think the offense can run through him.
I'm a little more skeptical than than others.
And again, it's not that I don't think they can win 11 games.
I think they could.
I just don't believe they should be considered one of the top three teams or so in the AFC.
And the way they're playing this off season so far, I think they're probably trying to do a little bit of both.
With signing Walker, but also trading the Duffy.
So let's see what they do in the draft.
And maybe I'll come on in the summertime.
And I'll tell you that I think they're going to win the division and everything.
But right now, that's not where I'm at.
With Alex Gold, 96 five, the fan in Kansas City.
I'm like, show up in the Bulldog here on WGR.
Top three team in the AFC, maybe in the past.
Top two in the division is a question.
With what the chargers and Broncos, maybe I should have put the Broncos first.
They did win it last year.
And the bills have New England, but then it's a big gap to the Jets and Dolphins.
I would say I think you'd agree.
So how do you consider Denver and L.A. as competition for the chiefs?
So I think Denver is still what really well positioned the win the division.
I know the odds markets will tell you that all three almost have the identical odds.
And that was prior to the Jalen Waddle trade.
And by the way, I love that.
I would have loved Kansas City to have made that move.
It was a name that I was watching this off season.
Especially once the chiefs ended up getting picked 29 from the Rams in that trade.
So I know the Broncos had not done anything really to this point.
But I think it's a really smart move to build on what they did a year ago with Waddle to go with Sudden.
And we all know that they don't have the Russell Wilson money on the books anymore.
But when it's still a rookie contract.
I believe well, they won't be a 14 win team again, the Broncos.
I think they should be the team to be in this division.
I'm way more skeptical on the Chargers just because every single year we play this game with them.
Justin Herbert.
He should be better and the injuries happen and the roster looks great heading into week one.
And I just don't trust them whatsoever.
I do like the Mike McDaniels higher.
And I think it's actually pretty impressive.
With Harbotta put together the staff he has while after losing Jesse Menter the Ravens.
I just maybe this is 10 years of watching the Chargers in one year.
I'll be wrong.
But I don't I'm not so that the Chargers will figure it all out.
And Justin Herbert at some point in time.
Well, it's not I'm not a cubie win lost record guy.
At some point he's got to elevate the roster even more.
And I don't think there's to be any more excuses for him.
And so I would say the Broncos are the team to beat.
But I'm not willing to say that the Chargers are definitively.
Above Kansas City heading in heading into the season based off of what we've known with that roster.
How much longer do you think for Andy Reed Alex?
So I think this year will say a lot in terms of his own feeling about has the game.
You know past and by or not that's the conversation that people have had here in Kansas City.
I don't think it has, but this year is everything.
He will be able to step away on his own terms within reason.
I mean, the only guy above him is the owner.
Brett Vich is not his boss.
That's it's Clark Hunt.
The owner and that's it.
I think from an age perspective and all that.
Like if they get this thing back on track this year, then I could see him coaching in other four years.
I really could.
I think everybody assumes he's way older.
But let's remember where Pete Carroll was coaching Bill Belichek.
The age that he was coaching at.
I mean, Andy Reed for years.
Everybody's been trying to run him out as far as nationally.
I feel like Mike Florios of the world that he should retire.
I think it'll be more about the performance more than the age.
You know, if they go out and only win eight games this year in the offense,
that he brought back Eric the enemy as his OC.
If it looks similar and it's stagnant and it starts to look like he hasn't caught up to the game that usually he's ahead of.
Then I think there will be people in Kansas City and probably us on our show having a conversation whether it's time to pivot.
But I'm not banking on that actually being the case.
How comfortable are you?
How comfortable do you think the chiefs are with the mahalms timeline on recovery?
Like are you?
If you had to bet right now, is he playing the opener or do you think it'll take a little while?
I would never bet against mahalms given, you know, just everything we know about him and his work ethic and the rehab.
And where he is right now is right on track.
If you listen everybody around the organization, but I think at the same time in March,
anybody definitively telling you that he's playing week one, they're like, they can't say that nobody can tell you that.
And so if I go on the air and all the time, I'm like, we'll see there's a chance he can miss a couple games.
Everybody jumps down your throat and freaks out and acts like you're an idiot for saying that.
And I'm like, look, I understand, Patrick Mahalms wants to play week one.
I understand the chiefs want him to play week one.
That's not how this works, though.
It's an ACL and LCL injury.
I don't think the Justin Fields trade should change anybody's feeling about his timeline.
Like to me, that doesn't mean that they think he's not going to be ready.
They needed a backup quarterback.
And Minchew is in Arizona.
Mario is resigning with the commanders.
I like that move, frankly, because I wanted someone with experience.
I didn't want them going after a guy that, you know, Anthony Richardson, frankly,
that only played in, you know, I don't know, 10 games or whatever it is at this point,
whereas Fields has started 53 of them.
So I think it was smart just in case Mahalms has to miss a couple of games.
But, you know, if I had to put out $100 on a bet, Mahalms week one or not,
yeah, I'd probably put that he's playing week one, but I don't think it's a sure thing by any means.
Kansas City is, again, on the bill's home schedule in 2026.
And whenever we talk about that, it's, of course, the new stadium to who opens it.
Kansas City, Mahalms injury status.
Bulldog, I'm not sure I'm speaking for you here, but I think I am for sale.
We're like, maybe they wouldn't put the chiefs.
I wouldn't expect them.
Okay, I wouldn't expect them here, you know, in a primetime week one anyway.
But, yeah, maybe, like, what was my joke yesterday?
Watch out if the chief schedule starts Raiders Raiders.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, Jets are on their schedule as well.
Just go Raiders, Jets right out of the gate, soft landing.
No, I think you're on to something though.
Honestly, all serious things about certainly the primetime games.
I mean, this is why, you know, Seattle opens up the season.
I'm like, they're not putting Kansas City in Seattle that Wednesday night to open up the year
because Mahalms may not play.
Now, I'll tell you, on the flip side, even though May is still early when the schedule comes out.
If you tell me the chiefs are in primetime the first week or two of the season,
it does tell me that somehow the league and the chiefs, everybody thinks he is playing week one.
Yeah.
The bells were the last team to play in that old chief stadium we were talking about her in the regular season.
Oh, okay.
They were the last regular season game there.
Then the next game was that epic double overtime Christmas day game with Miami that Miami won.
Oh, wow, okay.
And that was the end of a municipal stadium.
Well, I'm curious, Alex, and I'll bet our audience is as well about how you feel about the changes here in Buffalo.
Hearing you talk about the chiefs the way you did here, it feels like it mirrors a lot of how I'm feeling about the bills.
I mean, we don't have uncertainty about Josh Allen recovering from an ACL injury,
but there's a lot of change here.
A new head coach means a whole new defense, new defensive system, which means a lot of new players.
And, you know, a new voice in front of that room and McDermott certainly had his flaws,
but having a command of that locker room was not among them.
I mean, he was, I think, aces in that area.
And we don't know about Joe Brady.
So I'm sort of like, I don't think the bills are about to fall into a sinkhole or anything,
but I'm not assuming that they're just going to go win their 13 games either because of the turnover.
How are you viewing them from where you are?
Yeah, the feeling in Kansas City from from fans here as well is a big question mark around the change from McDermott.
I don't think I've talked to you guys since that went down.
I know we had bulldog on the show or no, we had Mike on the show.
I guess it would have been talking about the hiring at the time,
but I think it was a mistake personally to move on from Sean McDermott if you work and also move on from Brandon Bean.
And thank your station for the Brandon Bean drop that we now use all the time.
It's phenomenal from one of your collars.
Brandon Bean, it's great. I love it.
But look, I think the offseason, I thought the DJ Moore trade was a bit of desperation.
By the way, desperation doesn't mean it doesn't work out, but I thought it was desperation from Brandon Bean,
given the wide receiver room and the misses there in the whole Keon Coleman situation.
I think DJ Moore will be a very nice piece.
I will say as of the Jalen Waddle trade, it made me not hate the compensation the bills gave up as much now being the Waddle trade.
So I'll give you that.
I love the Bradley Chubb signing. I wanted him in Kansas City.
He was one of the top names that I thought the chief should have been interested in.
So those are the two two move beliefs that have stood out to us in Kansas City was the Moore trade,
where people here thought it was a bit of a desperation move.
And then in terms of just the bills and, you know, kind of where they stack up.
Yeah, I think a lot of people here believe that there's a feeling that the bills are trying to hold open a window that maybe needs to close for a half a second,
or at least, you know, be near shot for a little bit, and that they're pushing it too much that it doesn't exist,
and that last year and the year before were their best shots, and that it's, it's quote unquote, too late in that regard,
for that current group. So we'll see. I mean, you have Josh Allen.
So I refuse to believe that it's fully ever closed, just like I refuse to say that with my homes or Lamar Jackson.
Well, I guess good luck to Kansas. I've never been a Kansas fan.
But, you know, I like you.
Not good. We're friends.
Not good for the J-Ox this weekend.
No.
I don't think.
Yeah, they're kind of a lower seed than usual, right?
Yeah, it's spoiled in Kansas, you know.
There are four seed, and that's not usually what they are.
Although they were seven last year.
People are down on Bill's self right now, despite him being one of the best coaches in the country.
I think they'll be fine against Cal Baptist, but Patino's self, four or five matchup on Sunday, maybe,
and I don't know many people that'll be picking Kansas to win. So we'll see.
Yeah, St. John's was kind of a hot one coming down the stretch.
They didn't have the non-conference prowess.
I heard that cost them in the seeding, but they might be favored in that game if that's the game in round two.
I think so.
Yeah.
And we can't bet it because it's a New York State team, even though.
Oh, that's right.
We're almost closer to Kansas than we are to Queens almost.
I was just in Montreal, you know.
I was, I was supposed to Buffalo as I've been, and that's not even that close.
Not even that close.
I saw that.
What was the occasion?
Just a trip.
I had a family member happen to have a work trip up there.
And so I was able to tag along and went to him.
My first Montreal Canadiens game, which was awesome.
And it was a great, great atmosphere up there.
And yeah, I was just a random trip.
And I was funny talking to people up there.
People were saying they drove from New York and New Jersey.
And I couldn't fathom that it was only like a five-hour drive from Jersey.
I didn't make any sense to me.
I was on a college trip with my son in Vermont.
And we took the 90-minute drive to Montreal when we were there in December.
Yeah.
So there you go.
Very cool.
Thanks, Alex, for your time today.
We'll talk again soon.
Yeah, thanks, guys.
You're welcome.
Alex Gold, 96-5, the fan in Kansas City.
I'm not a Kansas fan.
But I can't really think of a reason.
Just like their big famous basketball power.
That's it.
Right.
But I like some, I like Carolina, all right.
I don't have a Carolina problem.
I like Kansas, Danny Manning.
Danny Manning.
I like that group.
I think I was down with that.
I like Oklahoma, who they beat in the final.
That's all that went for me.

to change my grandpa's trachea tube?
I was so amazed at how we replaced our air ducts.
I knew I could trust him to change pop pops tube.
I think we should call it doctor.

Their defensive line was a problem last year.
Other than signing an oaths tackle, they haven't done anything yet.
You know, Chris Jones is a year older.
The secondary, we know they just traded Trent McDuffy,
which I like to move long term, but in a short term.
Right now, your corners are no Williams, a second-year player.
And then Christian Fulton, who was a veteran signing last year,
who barely could get on the field.
The wide receiver spot.
Right now, they brought back Taikwan Thordan.
That's all they've done.
We can keep going. Travis Kelsey is coming back.
I'm fine with it, but I don't think the offense can run through him.
Let's see what they do in the draft.
And maybe I'll come on in the summertime.
And I'll tell you that I think they're going to win the division
in everything.
But right now, that's not where I'm at.
Now, let's gold our guest just previously.
Did you enjoy the zing band discussion?
I never knew of the zing band.
I might even say that I'd like to know more about the zing band.
I think there's probably content there.
But it was like, I don't know, 10 or 20 pieces.
Would that be the terminology?
Yeah, musicians.
Sure.
Dressed up.
20-piece band.
Okay.
Something about that size.
Yeah.
Dressed up.
You know, suits ties.
Team colors.
I mean, colors.
Yes.
Red and yellow.
Playing at municipal stadium in Kansas City.
Which closed to the chiefs anyway.
I don't know how long it was still standing.
But 1971 was their last season there.
The bills were the last regular season game.
The bills lost to the chiefs to finish one in 13.
And high mark opened in 73.
So, yeah.
And those stadiums always, I mean, the shape obviously arrowhead.
But they're very similar.
I've always heard that they were structurally very similar places.
So, I always kind of felt like they were sort of sister stadiums.
I don't remember you and I really ever getting into the roof issue with our new place.
But that's a conversation where I'm fine with what they did.
You know, they're talking about fans enjoying, you know, the elements which are not always enjoyable.
But it's a different, there's something about if this is not the wrong point.
There's something about going to a baseball game.
Toronto is very different for me if the roof is open.
Like, there's something about just the fresh air and you know they're not going to play in the rain in baseball.
So, that's, you're off the hook if it rains.
But there's just something wonderful about that that it goes away when it's indoors.
And as raunchy as our weather can get today, for example, or last night,
you know, it's still, it's so nice in September and October, so often,
that I think it is, when the stadium is brand new, it's really just about that.
But if there were a roof on it, it would kind of feel maybe a little bit like a lost day
when on an off day from work, you're going, you know, indoors.
So, I'm sure there'll be plenty of times when it's, you know, it's 30 mile an hour winds
and rain and we'll be long for it.
I don't think you and I, I'm not sure exactly how you feel about this.
I don't think we got into it really because they never really minded that much.
And, you know, by a fantasy football, you get into December games and you want them all to be indoors
because they can be ruined by the weather, but whatever.
I could never get to insisting that they do it with a roof simply because
I couldn't get behind doubling the price or, or, you know, making the price 175%
or whatever it would have been of the, of the current cost to put a roof on it.
I mean, I didn't, I didn't like the whole idea to begin with.
Like, it's only a stadium thing and everybody, it's just not my, it's not like cup of tea.
It's the way the business works, I get it, but like, I never even needed a new stadium,
let alone a roof.
So, I couldn't, with a clear conscience, say like, yeah, well, you know,
Kathy Holkill helped us find another $500 million so we can put a retractable roof on this thing.
Because that would have been the way to go.
That way you can preserve your September and October's, like you're talking about,
and then, you know, provide shelter when you feel you need it in, you know, in the playoffs or whatever.
Right, it's not really exactly one or the other, is it?
Yeah, I mean, again, but that, that is, you know, there's a roof and then there's a retractable roof.
And like, everything multiplies by hundreds of millions of dollars.
In order, right, the roof itself multiplies.
Retractable roof, now there's another multiplier exponentially.
And I just could never make the case because I hate the way the stuff gets paid for fundamentally at inception.
So, I never wanted to stump for more.
But I think if I were, if costs were no object, I think I would put a retractable roof on it is what I would do.
Like, is there an NFL market that more warrants that?
I know, right?
Because, like you said, I mean, it is, you don't want to give it up.
I mean, Minnesota is the only, that's not retractable.
But the way that they design that to let the light in makes you feel like you're outside.
At least that's how it looks to me on TV or when the scene setters for the game happen.
Like, the natural light in there looks like outside to me kind of.
And so, that's appealing, but ultimately, no, retractable roof.
I've got nice days.
We want some degree of that and some degree of elements.
But when it's insane, you know, like the second half of the Bronco Patriot AFC title game,
if we're playing a home game and we're on a bad end of that, I mean, what are you doing here?
You know, like give your guys a chance.
The game is kind of ruined.
Yeah, the game is kind of ruined.
And the stakes are that large.
I mean, I know that's a singular, you know, and how many really bad days are there.
It's not even really one a year for us.
I mean, you know, like that you have, you know, snow and really untenable conditions.
But still, I'd like to have something to guard against it.
So, you know, if costs were no object, retractable roof would have been what I would have done.
Plus, if you had a retractable roof and you're playing Miami in the AFC Championship,
the discuss, right?
Whether to leave the roof open.
Tactical advantage to leave it open.
Now, no discussion.
No choice.
Does the league let you do that?
Right.
I don't know.
Who gets to decide?
Right.
Does the league have any say?
The home team's choice?
I mean, the AFC Championship is a pretty good ticket.
Maybe it's a little bit of a different crowd than a regular season game.
Yeah.
Maybe that crowd more likely want to, you know, be warm and not, you know.
Yeah.
You get it.
Well, I wonder how, I mean, anything can tilt it, right?
So, everyone's paying more.
It's the first time we've ever experienced personal seat licenses.
And so, that's more of an investment than you've ever had.
And then the tickets are more expensive than you've ever had on top of that.
And so, now, if you're in a spot where it's not covered
and you're paying more, like, that probably grows some sort of level of aggravation.
Because spending more should be more comfortable.
And if I'm as uncomfortable as I would be in a blizzard at the old stadium,
then what am I doing here?
But again, the majority of the seats are protected from the elements to some extent, right?
So, I don't know.
I would have liked to retractable roof.
I guess of the choices, though, I'm, I guess I'm fine with what they did.
And, come on, Miami and the AFC Championship.
I mean, you know, in a few years, maybe.
Maybe.
It's been 34, I believe, 1992 against Buffalo.
I think would have been the last Dolphins appearance in the AFC Championship.
No playoff wins since 2000.
The Lamar Smith game is their last playoff win 2000.
I'm eager for some, you know, dribs and drabs, details on the new place
and what eventually might be planned for it.
I mean, is everybody going to want to be there?
Like, anybody who's ever led the charge, that's right, isn't it?
We'll want to be, you know, some sort of a 2011 Sabers-esque alumni feature.
Maybe something like that.
Yeah, I wonder.
I wonder if they do that if they have just an event that is really that.
To sort of, you know, use the phrasing soft open, but, you know what I mean?
Like, not have it be a marquee event, but just something to sort of get familiar with it.
Or maybe you do that sort of thing with the alumni like you're describing at a preseason game.
I don't think you wait until September to do something like that.
You probably do it in August.
Yeah, it is a bit of an anticlimax with the preseason, you know?
Just like it was at Rich Stadium.
Did you say, if you said you went to one of those games?
No, no idea.
I went to, I went to a Bill's Bangles in 73 in the regular season,
but that was like middle of the season.
A Monday night?
No.
It was a Sunday afternoon.
Yeah.
I really got this story.
You're doing great.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, the preseason, they probably normally would have two preseason home games when you're
playing the extra game on the road.
Oh, that's okay.
I think you would play an extra game.
You would play another home.
Okay.
And like, that's the beginning.
If there isn't something else before that.
I mean, that's the first.
Right.
Bill's events.
And the second, you know, probably won't compare.
It won't be remembered like the regular season, obviously.
But the regular season opener, home opener will really not be the first football game in
there.
Lead the charge.
Pete Metzellars.
You've been in touch.
We'll be on the show next week.
Right.
Right.
He was doing some work for Sumer Sports.
I don't know if that he does, like officially, if he has like a job there or what exactly.
But I saw a clip of him analyzing a tight end for Sumer Sports.
And like, this is good.
We should reach out.
And we have a listener who knows him.
So, uh, put us together and it works out pretty well for us.
Next week at some point.
We'll touch it.
Good, good.
Pete Metzellars.
Who I can still see running.
To the end zone at candlestick park.
On a 50 yard touchdown pass.
One of those plays that is just.
Like not what you're expecting.
You're just not expecting the ball to go to that area to feel to that guy.
And watch him run unencumbered to the end zone.
It was one of those like, oh my God.
It's a great highlight.
That's really happening.
Right.
I mean, nothing against Pete.
But he was not, you know, he was not known as a seamstretcher.
They didn't really use the term yak in those days.
But he was not a yak specialist.
No.
Or rack specialist.
Yeah.
