VGK opens the playoffs at home Sunday against the Utah mammoth.

And you're absolutely right to flag this as a dangerous match-up if the Golden Knights

don't get to their game early.

Now I talked about this yesterday on the show.

We were talking about the initial match-up and what we thought.

And about how John Tortarella is going to continue to work on his team.

And he wants them to still push pace and get even faster if they can.

Well, they will be facing a team in Utah that has some of the fastest skaters in the league.

126 total speed burst of 22 plus miles an hour, VGK 64 total burst of 22 miles per hour

plus.

That's a double for Utah.

They are a faster team.

And Logan Cooley hit the top speed this season of 24.38 miles an hour about as fast as

a large hairy, not I'm not talking about you, Chris, about as fast as a large hairy

extinct mammal, the mammoth about as fast as as a mammoth would travel.

They went 25 miles an hour and here's Logan Cooley going very close to that mark.

You also have Dylan Gunther, JJ Paterco, two players and the upper 90 percentile in

speed.

They are very fast.

That's what I'm getting at.

And X factor to me is which team can neutralize the other first.

That's a factor in this game.

One of great concern for both teams.

And I can see why torts might be a little bit worried.

Listen, it's the playoffs, everyone should be a little bit worried and respectful of

their opponent.

That's number one.

As far as the speed of the Utah mammoth, I will not call them Arizona coyotes.

As far as the speed of the mammoth, Torrella used to coach in the east where big teams

bottle up the neutral zone, clog up the neutral zone and find ways to slow down these fast

teams.

I don't think Torrella will have an issue.

It might catch some of the Golden Knights off guard, but this is where the coach versus

coach is going to see itself through here.

So for me, I mean, before I even get into X factors, it's the simplest thing for me

as far as handicapping any NHL playoff round.

Best coach, best goal tinder, Torrella has been in 12 or 13 Stanley Cup playoffs.

And tourney has been in zero NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

He did have a good run though in the queue back in the 2004 to 2013.

No, there you go.

So now let's go goalie to goalie here.

Well, Carter Hart, he's a 99999, safe percentage right now.

The way he's been playing lately.

So we're doing just fine on the VGK side.

Vamelka, respectful 897 this season, also has had good luck against the Golden Knights.

But with those two variables, I think that certainly votes very well for the Vegas Golden

Knights.

Okay.

So goal tending is definitely an X factor.

What does VGK do if Carter Hart can't make the next save in the series?

And why was Correll, Vamelka playing in his 60 second game on Thursday night?

They've overloaded him.

That's a concern.

You know, Vasilyevsky, I looked at how many games he played, 58 this season.

But are you kidding?

It's a down year.

62, 62 games.

And he's still playing in a game that doesn't even matter.

Yeah.

I mean, he's in the groove and he's got a few days off.

Well, as many as the Golden Knights do, I'm sure we'll hear about that in the third segment

from Tony about the scheduling.

Oh, yeah.

Um, locked on the VGK schedule, WTF.

Oh, something else that I'm looking at.

So third line versus third line was kind of the first place I was going.

But the, the man with third lines pretty solid.

So looking for maybe a weak point, I'm going to look at the fourth line for the man with

which is O'Brien, Stenland, Stenland and TANF.

Not a lot of points and a lot of goals between them.

O'Brien is played in just 37 games, three goals, Kevin Stenland, four goals and TANF, zero

goals, three assists.

So if the Golden Knights fourth line can outperform the fourth line of Arizona, that's certainly a good

start because I feel just fine to get it.

It's fire versus fire as far as the top six on each side.

I think they're going to, although that's like cancel each other, I still like Vegas's

edge on the top six as well.

But if the top six are fair, I guess we can say it like that and Sizzins Smith and, um,

and a Nick Dowd, if they can put a couple on the board, that will certainly help the

Golden Knights chances.

So for VGK, Tommy Boy hurdle has to step up and I'm going to go back to the third line.

Because yesterday you did say both of the goal, uh, third lines, I should say, um, could

matter, could determine this series, um, Riley Smith against a speedy JJ Paturka, not

going to happen because there's no way that Riley Smith can neutralize him.

He's much faster.

If that happens on the third, we'll see they have to stop them through the neutral zone.

And sooner or later, the line led by hurdle, who has hit pipe the past two games.

It has to, they have to produce and they have to score other than a Riley Smith goal here

and there, uh, but it's all up to hurdle.

Now the drought at 20 games, 20 games.

JJ Paturka talking about the mammoth third line right now, JJ Paturka, 46 points that

was a sabre's a transplant oddly enough, 25 goals, 21 assists, um, Alex curve, but shouldn't

have to go too far down on the scorch.

Here, where's curve, where's, yeah, curve for it's a third line center, right?

Her foot seven and six.

So her foot, not a lot as far as scoring and then carconey is 15 and 15 as far as points.

So okay.

So Riley Smith was 16 goals and 10 assists, hurdle hasn't done anything in a minute, but

we're still looking at 58 points right there.

And then as far as, um, as far as colizar, okay, they win that one.

Yeah.

I like, I sort of like what Andre tyranny, uh, did on Thursday night, um, his approach

to their game against St. Louis doesn't care about the outcome, although there were several

scraps.

And I think that Kelly McCrimman told St. Louis, he would not make any more deals if they

didn't play goons against Utah because there were some skirmishes there.

But tyranny wanted to see how St. Louis could do on the rush.

So versus the rush and how the defense could activate and defend.

So already they're, they're using this game in a positive manner, unlike I would have

where I'd be moaning and groaning that they're playing that game after everything was settled.

So scouting VGK and a game using the game to get some tape on how his team would handle

certain situations that they could see against VGK.

I think that's pretty brilliant, to be honest with you.

For sure.

I mean, whatever edge you can possibly get, but again, you know, it's, it's tough.

I mean, I wonder how many NHL coaches have had success their first goal round in the

NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

And I'm not thinking of anything off the top of my head, um, as far as who or what.

But I mean, the man went throughout against it and it's a nice story.

They've had a great regular season.

And yet again, if you were to take one of those maps, if you paint, uh, you paint Nevada

red or paint Nevada gold, the other 49 states, I guess we painted like a light bluish color

as far as who's rooting for the mammoth, or you can add can in there too, because it's

definitely going to be the golden nights against everybody and, you know, like the world.

Against the world.

What are they fight with there?

Seven, oh, and one, under torts.

But six of those eight games, Chris, have been against teams that aren't in the playoffs.

Is this overblown that the Gold and Knights are back?

Are they contenders?

Why not?

I mean, why, what have we seen in the, in the golden torts era to suggest that they're

not contenders?

It's not their fault.

The schedule is the way it is.

Although Tony will maybe say the gold Knights are influential in what the schedule is.

But that's where I would certainly start the discussion point right there.

You look at how well this team has played and when Cassidy was coaching, the team falls

behind one or two goals, change the channel, turn nighttime minus off like it's done.

It's over.

With Torrella, you're seeing the team coming back.

You're not seeing them panic either.

You're seeing everyone staying composed.

It was clear.

It was evidence how controlled Torrella has been with this bench and how the team, like

he's not just, he's not over there swearing under his breath.

He's not over there, you know, Cassidy has had this look on his face when things weren't

going well.

And you knew exactly what's going on.

And Torrella is keeping the bench calm and helping him through similar tight moments.

So I get it.

I know what the schedule is.

I know what the, how his team performed for the first 74 games of the season or whatever

the math was when, uh, when Cassidy got fired, but different situation.

And I think, uh, the ceilings a lot higher now.

You are the first person to even insinuate that the gold Knights should fire Bruce Cassidy.

I don't think I've ever, six months.

Yes.

I don't think I've given you the correct props on that.

You get flowers, bouquets, everything else.

Neither, neither is Twitter.

They're still mad at me for it.

They're mad at you because you said the right thing.

That's the part that just kills me every time we say something that's correct.

That happens.

They get bad.

Um, here's where VGK can win games in this series, special teams.

Golden Knights, what they big advantage on special teams, power play.

The Golden Knights are ranked fifth.

Utah is ranked 18th penalty kill VGK eighth.

And the Tuskees 19th.

Yeah.

I mean, and this is the veteran presence and veteran leadership who's going to control

those circumstances.

Um, experience goes such a long way when it comes to the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

Although Jack Michael didn't need much, I guess, to perform pretty well.

So, but experience goes a very, very long way and this Utah story is fun.

This Utah story is nice and cute and this Utah story, I think, is going to come to an

end in five games about, you know, two and a half weeks from now.

We will see Utah probably being without Barrett Hayton.

We talked a little bit about this yesterday and Jack McBain, two key pieces, Hayton outs

since last month.

McBain hasn't returned since being sidelined on April the 2nd.

Sean Derzy.

Derzy was out of the lineup again on Thursday night.

And I think he will be back.

He got hit with the puck off his hand.

Dylan Gunther got rest on the first night, close our hit him with the air and puck.

I think he hit him with an air and puck.

Dylan Gunther, who scored 40 goals this season, missed the game on Thursday.

And VGK is a healthy team heading into the playoffs, which is really important.

And even when you go back to the playoffs in previous years, they've not been this healthy

or they have to pull Stony off of LTIR and place some gymnastics and tricks.

Hey, Stony's all systems go coming in.

He's hitting the ground running, Tony.

This is new.

I know.

I was wondering what was his top speed this season for four miles an hour, 12, 13.

Is that miles?

No.

Okay.

12 hours.

So for Utah, they acquired JJ Paterka.

We talked about him in the off season, along with Brandon Tanniff and Nate Schmidt.

Schmidt is still around.

They added Mackenzie Weger at the deadline.

Mike Folter, the play by play guy for the mammoth yesterday, said that Nate Schmidt and

John Marino are a plus 29 as a pair.

That is the best rating by far for any defensive pair.

And VGK's defensemen aren't going to find as many open lanes of those two guys around

the ice.

This is a pretty much, this is an interesting match within the match for the Golden Knights

and for the mammoth.

For sure.

I mean, listen, but I don't think of Nate Schmidt and Marino as, you know, as scary matchups

or anything like that.

It's a nice circumstance and we'll see, we'll see if they live up to that.

What do you got for predictions?

You got one?

Well, I just want to talk, you know, because I've been focusing a lot on the mammoth just

because they're not going to get too much shine on this show with you.

But Ikel, Marner and Stone, they'll do their thing.

VGK has to get complimentary scoring and they cannot chase games.

It's been the same concern with every coach here in Las Vegas.

VGK's scoring, dry up in the playoffs, we haven't even discussed that because we've seen

them buzzing up and down the ice, but this has happened before.

And then they just come to a stop when they get to the playoffs.

They'll be fun.

Is that all you have?

They'll be fine.

I was trying to give you time for a prediction to get a prediction.

I have a prediction.

I am taking Utah and sex.

I'm sorry.

I just don't know of what we're seeing out of VGK is really the product.

What does your six look like, Tony, as far as win loss, win like, how does that look for you?

I haven't thought about that.

I think there's a big five win, win loss, win win, gentlemen sweep.

Yeah, I don't think so.

I think it'll be a split here and maybe a split on the road.

We'll see.

Utah's a good team.

I think the experience and the coaching and the goal-tending will be too much for them

to overcome.

I just think VGK, are they really the product of an easy schedule?

Or are they back?

Are they so back?

So WTF, the NHL and this Kaka schedule, VGK ends its season a day before Edmonton,

Anaheim, LA, and Utah do.

Someone said that it should be Lockdown Golden Schedule because that's all I care about,

And I really feel that Jeremy LaZone could be baited and wind up in the box and revert

back to his old ways.

WTF, VGK could have its way if they stay out of the penalty box, WTF.

So WTF, Torna Raleigh, he's been very interesting to kind of get to know, we'll listen to

the pressers and things like that, but there's been a trend in all these pressers lately.

No, but that past does happen more often than relax, bro, I did not.

And there were too many behind the back passes the other night and the first period in

the final game, my Lisa Gibson wants to take a shot here too.

You two are delusional.

If you truly believe the Knights would have made the playoffs under Cassidy, we were slipping

in the standings, get out of your Cassidy bubble, um, they'd be the ducks right past

the bubble eight months ago.

I was, I said they should have fired him a long time ago, you said it over the summer

that.

I think I'm like, so we're done by, uh, by Christmas.

I think you said, go ahead, rain 10 here.

This is before the crack in game.

These are right in succession.

These are great.

By the way, a lot of jokes about how bad the crack in our no discussion, how we apparently

rain 10s on the golden nights, no discussion, discussion how we have exactly zero regulation

wins against the so called bottom feeders, including under torqued, nothing about their

forecheck, nothing about how they beat us again, these persons on the team, they beat us

in board battles, effectively limit our zone entries, Mrs. Cassidy's kid.

I don't know.

In three games this series, we've been limited to six goals, blah, blah, joy, that

chord was good.

Well, yeah, let's have a good laugh at how this will be a walk in the park.

I just responded, walk in the park WTF, good night.

Uh, WTF T a nimon, uh, I know the team is doing better and all, but WTF VGK fans, this

doesn't mean that we will go 16 to know in the playoffs.

Let's calm down.

really the answer to our turnaround.

He says he doesn't make decisions on gold and he doesn't, doesn't draw a place.

He does not and let's the players do their thing because Tony Robbins just have been

hired for motivation WTF, uh, yeah, we'll see in the playoffs.

Like, the post game the other night, first towards gets out of the monkey suit and then

he addresses the media, but there's a little bit of tension there.
