The Department of Justice has charged the Southern Poverty Law Center with wire fraud as it allegedly funneled donor money to prop up the very extremist organizations it claims to fight. The SPLC isn't just another progressive NGO; it is responsible for training the FBI, local law enforcement, and many other organizations on matters related to hate crimes. That means the very organization training government agents to harass conservatives because they might be guilty of hate crimes was also defining what a hate crime is while paying leaders of organizations like the KKK to make the threat seem real.
