Howie Rose Retires After 30 Years with Mets

Howie Rose, the longtime New York Mets radio play-by-play announcer, has announced he

will retire after the 2026 season.

At 72 years old, he has called Mets Games for over 30 years, starting in 1995 on both

radio and television.

Rose first entered broadcasting in 1975 and also handled national hockey league games for

the New York Rangers from 1989 to 1995.

In the New York Islanders until 2016, earlier this year, he decided to skip most rogue

games this season, except for the subway series at Yankee Stadium and any playoff appearances.

Mets principal owners Steve and Alex Cohen praised Rose for his passion, saying it has brought

the team's biggest moments into fans' homes with real.

Energy and love for the community.

Generations of listeners have grown up with his authentic calls, making him a true voice

of the franchise.

Both challenges have limited his schedule in recent years, including bladder cancer in

2021, so he now calls just over one.
